also YES! it is a 'artemis goes down to earth too'!!! im so sad that there arent (m)any fics abt that :((( its Such a prime concept, especially as artemis stole all the braincells in the womb so it's fun to wonder how it'd play out. also artemis would get tired of meeting so many of apollo's exes so so quickly.

Ok, I actually really love Leslie, but I want to propose my own idea bc I love names. I know Artemis having an L name is popular bc then they match, but I actually think it would be funnier if they didn't match, since that's just another thing that's different now that they're mortal. ALSO, even though she's getting punished, Artemis is Zeus' favored kid out of her and Apollo, so he'll probably be nicer when giving her a name. I have decided on the name Reagan. It's of similar origin to Lester (Lester is English, Reagan is Irish) and it literally means King's child, bc if Zeus had full reign of naming his kids I'm sure he'd name them all "child of the king" "child of the ruler of Olympus" "child of the supreme ruler of the universe".

ANYWAYS NAME RAMBLE ASIDE. I agree Artemis going to earth is such a great concept with a whole bunch of potential. Bc like, I feel like they both have so much growing they need to do but in entirely different directions oof. And absolutely protective sibling rage is so fun to write. Also oooooh??? New mortal Artemis fic????? Yes pls??????

adhd ramble time!!!

so i'm researching significant films from queer history right, bc i already have an interest in that and also bc of this queer media archive nick and i are working on (see my pinned post)

anyways i found the silent film Salomé (1922), which stars Alla Nazimova (generally went by just Nazimova), a Russian Jewish sapphic silent film star. several of the female characters are played by men in drag and there were supposedly several gay cast members but yk. altogether the film is not extremely canonically queer but is definitely one of those queercoded fun experimental things from the silent era. it's impressive though, and a very expensive and cool-looking production (watch here)

so i decided to research nazimova who as it turns out was in a lavender marriage for a while and had several relationships with women. her most steady girlfriend was Glesca Marshall, another actress, who lived with her in the hotel nazimova established and then sold off, the legendary Garden of Allah Hotel. marshall was later buried with another girlfriend, Emily Woodruff. interestingly, nazimova's goddaughter was Nancy Davis, who would eventually marry Ronald Reagan. yeah.

another of nazimova's girlfriends was the surrealist/magical realist painter Bridget Bate Tichenor, who was at one point the editor of Vogue, was influenced by and in turn influenced several huge names in the surrealist movement, and. wow. check out her paintings!!! that's so cool!!!

More Inside Job Part 2 Ramblings

Idk I wish that the whole “Rand is a shitty father and is dead to Reagan” thing stuck and stuck harder. I almost wished that Ron was like a secret imperfect clone (think Dani from Danny Phantom) of Reagan because Rand did a bunch of experiments on Reagan when she was a kid. Maybe Rand wanted a bunch of clones of his daughter to rule the world but the plan went south or something and Rand ditched kid Ron at some random Catholic orphanage and then as he grew up Ron wanted revenge on Rand, met Reagan and wanted to help her take down their father and control Cognito Inc to make the world a better place.

And idk maybe Robo Reagan killed the Black Robes and replaced them with robots and there’s a whole moral dilemma about “we want to take down Rand but not become like him” and Reagan trying to choose between her want for power and the love of her friends.

So this uh, was asked over a year ago. But hey, it's answered now!

1. What's a unique skill Nate has? Is there any reason why he can do it?

Unusually for someone living in a small, quiet town like Aldstow, Nate knows a ton of skateboarding tricks. One of his uncles got him a skateboard when he was seven years old, and for five years that was what he spent almost all of his non-school time doing.

2. What are Connie's favorite possessions? Why? (sentimentality, history, price, etc.)

Some of his books, for different reasons. One because it was the textbook for one of his favorite college classes, and is still an informative read even now. Another because it was a gift from his parents that he re-read a lot in childhood. And one just because the leather cover feels nice in his hands and it has a good heft to it.

3. Does Amanda get jealous easily? If so, what usually causes it?

On occasion, a really attractive woman persistently flirting with her SO has made Amanda jealous, but not often. Her ex Simon got hit on at least twice by men, which she found hilarious (Simon was incredibly straight), and once she and Lanzo work things out, she finds she doesn’t care so much about people flirting with him, partially because she trusts him, mostly because she knows from first-hand experience that getting through Lanzo’s emotional barriers enough to even start an actual relationship is way harder than any aspiring homewrecker would have the patience for.

4. Is Ash a good gift-giver? What does he tend to give as gifts?

Ash’s gift-giving instincts are fairly reliable if he knows the recipient well enough, but he’s missed the mark more than once. If he barely knows the individual, it’s even worse.

In order of likelihood, books, tea, candles. He recognizes that other people like things other than what he likes, but it’s just so much easier to give things he knows he’d like to get. This is the chief problem with his gift-giving.

5. What's Lanzo's reputation like? Does this reputation contrast what he's really like?

Lanzo has a lot of different reputations.

At work, to all but a few perceptive regulars, he’s the worldly-wise bartender with a mysterious past who’s willing to listen to you ramble about your problems but avoids offering advice, except weirdly specific things on random occasions.

This is not completely inaccurate, but it’s definitely more of how Lanzo would like to be seen than how he actually is.

To those perceptive regulars, he’s an average guy who’s lived long enough to have some weird stories, and is charismatic enough to weave a convincing air of mystery out of it.

This is considerably more accurate.

To those in the house, he’s laid-back and easy to get along with for the most part, though you have to beware his sense of humor and occasional desire for chaos, but he’s really good at smoothing things over if he upsets you, and there’s also the chance that he’ll be incredibly perceptive about something that’s bothering you and have some oddly specific but actually really helpful advice for the situation.

8. What does Aidan's dream house look like?

A treehouse, for starters. Sparse on furniture, but a lot of hammocks and tall shelves with space for perching. Nuts or fruit-bearing plants in the vicinity, as long as he doesn’t have to tend them himself. And a swell video game system, for when Nate visits.

9. If Niner could change one part of her appearance, what would it be?

If we’re allowing changes that are not biologically possible, she’d made her nails grow faster and break less easily. She’s always trying to grow them out super-long, but then one of them breaks on something and she has to trim them all down or otherwise it feels weird, and the process starts all over again.

10. What's a simple thing that brings Q joy?

Fireflies.

13. How forgiving is Angie? What does she consider unforgivable?

To Angie, forgiveness is a sacred responsibility. For the most part, she doesn’t find it hard to forgive, even if the other person doesn’t seem genuinely sorry.

She doesn't consider anything unforgivable as such, but one of the worst sins in her eyes is a total lack of principle. Hypocrisy or failure to live up to your own principles is bad, but at least those people believe in something.

14. Who does Chris go to in a crisis/emergency? Any particular reason why he chooses that person?

Any situation dire enough to force Chris to seek help most likely requires professionals, like firefighters or S.W.A.T., but assuming it was something sufficiently non-urgent for him to reach out to someone specific, that would be his sister Marie. The reason being, Chris would hate having to ask for help, and his sister would be able to figure out the situation with the minimal amount of actually explaining/asking for help, and would respond in the way most soothing to his ego.

16. What food does Reagan absolutely hate?

Beets. The first time she tried them, they made her gag almost to the point of vomiting. The lengths to which her aunt was willing to make her eat them, on the one or two occasions per year she served them, only reinforced Reagan’s hatred of them.

17. Does Neal show a lot of affection, or is he pretty reserved?

Very reserved, unless he’s comfortable and very close with someone. Then, in private, he’s very affectionate, and eager for reciprocation.

18. If you had to represent Ian with a flower, color, and animal, what would you choose?

Flower: Dandelion. Grows easily, bright and friendly, some consider it an annoying weed.

20. Is Elise easy to wake up in the morning, or grouchy and sleepy?

Closer to easy to wake up. Elise isn’t a bright-and-shiny, “good morning world!” kind of person, but once she’s up she wakes up quickly, especially if she has some caffeinated tea or coffee.

22. What's Julie's silliest or most unusual fear/phobia?

There are certain kinds of elevators that make her anxious -- it's more an aesthetic thing than anything, but "pure metal" elevators are worse than ones with glass, carpeting, etc. It's a combination of some bad experiences, a few memorable elevator scares in media, and (the biggest reason) one really terrible, very memorable nightmare when her dad was sick.

24. Is Lauren a fussy eater?

She could be incredibly picky when she was a child. As an adult, she’s less so, but mostly because she lives on her own and so she gets to make all the choices about what she eats.

25. What are Jerome's dreams like?

He only remembers a handful of dreams he’s had in his life. They were intense, colorful, and very, very bizarre.

27. Is Kayla forgetful? What does she tend to forget? (plans, phone, keys, etc.)

She has an exceptionally good memory, even once she’s human.

29. Is Knife a good cook? If she is, what does she like to make?

Unless heating soup or one of those “just add water” macaroni and cheese bowls in the microwave counts as cooking, Knife doesn’t really cook.

31. What holiday does Hannah like the most? (Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, etc.)

Christmas!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. She starts practicing Christmas songs in October, helps her parents (and grandmother, when she was alive) decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and makes gift bags for all her friends at school. Her favorite thing (after presents) is when they go out to look at Christmas lights: they bundle up, go out and get fast food to eat in the car, then drive through the best-decorated neighborhoods her dad knows of. She loves everything about it, though: the music, the cookies, visiting (some of) her family. She also likes the Christmas story her dad reads.

33. Is Elarin adventurous, or does she prefer to stay in her safe zone?

Elarin was probably crawling out of her “safe zone” when she was a baby. She’s scared of very little, and almost never shows it when she is.

34. What's Meaghan's favorite drink? (Coffee, tea, juice, hot chocolate, soda, etc.)

Some type of relaxing herbal tea from a planet she’s visited. She also likes a few alcoholic beverages, though she doesn’t drink those often.

38. Does Leah get lost easily, or is she good with directions?

She’s better than most with directions. Leah has a good grip on the cardinal directions, which helps. Her memories of the pre-war Boston area interfere sometimes, but they also help -- she just needs to remember to look for half-collapsed ruins instead of skyscrapers sometimes.

45. Is Avery always late, on time, or early?

Avery can be anywhere from two hours early to four days late; the one thing she never is is on time. She makes an effort for people like Aveline, with schedules and deadlines and things, but she just doesn’t have a punctual bone in her body.

Okay! But Finn and Alpha-Beta could have a beautiful dynamic that just needs to be explored. RIGHT. NOW.

Warnings: I don’t think anything genuinely? Just the ramblings of me.

I do mention Willie! Go follow @outismisc because they made him, and I love them sm and that will probably be a better way to explain both Willie himself and his relationship with AB lmao.

OK, So I have had this thought for a while man. I think that their relationship could go in two ways.

- AB could absolutely hate them and think they are super fucking annoying.

- AB could tolerate them. He could think they are a little bit interesting, and they could just have some good banter!

So okay,,, AB would have known about Finn since he has started watching the cameras to try and get out. I think that it would be really funny if he saw them as a fellow camera watcher. Like Finn doesn’t know that he’s there Finn is just like-

“Lmao it’s kinda silly that there is a camera in my room when I’m the only one watching cameras lol”

AND LET ME TELL YOU I HAVE HAD IT WRITTEN FOR MY SONA SINCE THE BEGINNING! Finn? Nosy as fuck, when I wrote that BIO for my sona’s reference? It was supposed to be little notes that someone like Reagan had taken when looking into the pros and cons.

WHEN I SAID NOSEY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THEM BEING NOSEY AS FUCK!

It would be known that when Finn watches the cameras they take it seriously. Like, they still fuck around just like everyone else in the company.

(We love the headcanon that Finn makes “Cognito’s Funniest Work Videos” or that they could absolutely be bribed to make a blackmail tape for someone if you give them just enough sugary shit on a good day.)

But all that being said? They like knowing what’s going on, and sadly there is a specific room inside Cognito that they don’t get to see from their desk.

Reagan’s Restricted Room.

Like okay, they try for sure. I think at the beginning I can see it being somewhat amusing to watch for AB. Like he isn’t going to mention it to Reagan, not without thinking through how it might go at least. But he enjoys watching them trying to break in and being thwarted, or bugging and wearing Reagan down time after time. It’s like a game of mousetrap! And if they win he has a chance to get out!

They try asking around when they realize that Reagan isn’t going to break.

The puppy dog eyes and begging may work on JR, but they don’t work on Reagan. Tragic honestly.

They start with Brett. He immediately starts stuttering and being nervous. Man looks like he is ready to VOMIT. But they back out when they see how anxious he is, they understand that feeling. He says no when they give him the chance but pats them on the back and gives them a misguided but appreciated little, “I’m sure you’ll find somebody!”

Next target? Willie. They find him wandering the halls of one of the basement sub-levels. They see him, and they go into a full-on sprint toward him. They scare the ever-loving crap out of this man. When Finn asks if Willie knows some secret way to get into Reagan’s secret room, he starts sweating. And now HE IS ALSO STAMMERING! (Not to say that isn’t a normal occurrence with Willie when Finn scares the absolute shit out of them by just popping out at random but FINN CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPOOKED WILLIE AND ANXIOUSLY HIDING SOMETHING WILLIE!!!) Unfortunately for Finn Willie is loyal to his Robo-boyfriend and won’t give him away. And luckily for Willie Finn doesn’t feel like pressuring Willie until he breaks so he slinks away down another hall to escape.

It for sure happens eventually, but here we are! Finn finally gets to see inside the room. Reagan trusts Finn, and they may not be able to put a camera in there, but they do get to meet THE MAN. THE MYTH. THE LEGEND.

He tries spooking them with the old, “You must be Finn, I’ve seen you around the building-” schtick but honestly. It doesn’t bother Finn at all.

Reagan is there to supervise and when Finn straight up ignores him to turn and yell out to her instead she snickers a little.

“YOU HID THE KILLER ROBOT YOU MADE INSIDE OF THE SUB, SUB, SUB-BASEMENT?! HOLY SHIT REAGAN! THAT’S SO HARDCORE AND SWEET?!”

Finn has a fucking field day. If they only get to be in here once- (They will absolutely try and bribe Kate from the cloning department to give them some Reagan DNA to get them in again but that is a topic for another time)

They ask him all sorts of questions. I mean the only other time they had seen AB was when he was still going to replace the president and tried to kill... well everyone? But Reagan says he’s changed, even if it was just a little (and they would trust Reagan with their life honestly-) so if Reagan says they can trust him with some caution? Finn can do just that.

Finn asks what he’s been doing down here. He mumbles something about friends? and Joey Tribbiani? Finn never watched friends, but they think that’s what he is talking about. When Finn turns around and gives Reagan a look she shrugs letting out a little “What? He likes it!”

Finn shakes their head and turns back around, other than the show friends they talk about the other thing he’s gotten to know. NICHE THINGS THAT HAPPEN WITH THE PEOPLE IN COGNITO.

Honestly, if you need any tea from someone within the company you should go to one of these two. They could sit for hours and talk about the smallest details that they have seen. Like down to how many times someone has walked down a single hallway in one day.

AB is kind of shook that they can sort of keep up with him. Like clearly they can’t follow everything he says, they aren’t some kind of science genius like Reagan is but they do seem to be able to remember things that some would see as unimportant. They are good at reading people and seeing body language even through a monitor. They even had the gal to correct him???

Reagan is honestly too busy for this shit, she has let the two of them become friends and even if AB acts like he is super annoyed and would rather be anywhere else! Reagan can tell that he is having fun.

Whether it’s because he has someone else to talk to other than Reagan or because he is enjoying having someone who enjoys people watching and honestly probably roasting most of the staff at Cognito? It’s still highly up for debate!

But either way? Finn is back to begging Reagan to let them back in the next day, and honestly? Reagan doesn’t know if she wants to say no this time.
