tips and tricks for ranboo fans to make chat (and the community) a better place!

hello! since the rebrand is coming up i decided i wanted to make a list of certain things ranboo fans should be discouraged from saying/doing, to keep chat/the community fun and keep from pushing ranboo back into the box of a streamer they no longer are. i personally don’t believe in cringe culture, i think everyone should be able to have fun, but at this point certain jokes and comments restrict ranboo from growing as a person and do reflect on the community. this got a lot longer than i was expecting, apologies! lets begin.

gender jokes (“genderman”, you stole my gender etc)

a super obvious one. getting gender envy from ranboo is normal and super awesome! nothing wrong with that. but the jokes have been overused. the genderman one specifically has ties to minecraft which, while ranboo doesn’t care about being associated with minecraft, it’s still a tie to their past content they would prefer to leave behind. this is the same level as calling them an “mcyt”, while there’s no harm in it and ranboo really doesn’t care, it’s also just.. not really true anymore and hasn’t been for years. let them grow!

2. *blank*boo/general spam

*blank*boo is nothing but spammy. all it does is fill up chats and replies and brings no substance to anything. spamming “tiredboo” when they yawn, “madboo” when they yell etc. is not contributing anything meaningful to a chat. it’s annoying and drowns out actually fun and interesting comments. as for general spam, you can use a few emotes here and there! but when all you do is spam emotes it again just floods the chat. when ranboo tells chat to stop spamming, you stop. don’t take it as a challenge, you will just get banned. yes there is delay, but you can see what other people in chat are saying too. spamming lag, telling them they missed a dono, anything where you find yourself repeating what other people are saying to either get their attention or just because (except for using bttv emotes) just don’t. i know most people are used to speaking in a fast chat, but the truth is chat doesn’t have to be fast! if you don’t have anything to say, you can just stay quiet. even spamming the PETTHEMODS emote defeats the purpose !!

3. telling off chat

slightly related, you don’t have to tell off chat either. going “chat stop” “oh my god chat” just adds to the spam. change the subject! ignore the spam and let the mods take care of it. focus on reacting to the stream and being silly, not being backseat mods.

4. the swearing obsession

ranboo is almost 20. they make so many innuendos every stream. they are heavily considering adding a mature warning to most streams from here on out, and as we have seen they no longer are the “family friendly” kid who they used to be. he can say shit and fuck and people can be normal about it. you don’t have to say LANGUAGE or go THEY SWORE ?????? he’s an adult and can swear. all of his friends swear and a huge portion of us in the community do too. it is not a big deal

5. telling ranboo what to do

back seating in video games, as well as in other situations when it’s NOT ASKED FOR is not fun. let ranboo do what they want. this applies to just general things too- you don’t need to tell ranboo to go to sleep. they can make that decision themself. again, he’s almost 20.

6. assuming ranboo is uncomfortable with something

it’s always good to be careful about respecting boundaries! but don’t confuse your own boundaries for theirs. ranboo has said many times that if something bothers him, he’ll talk about it! it’s safe to say they are more uncomfortable with you harassing an artist for drawing something you personally don’t like, over the actual art itself.

7. the chat hopping/mentioning ranboo unnecessarily

we all love ranboo. that is very obvious. their friends love them too! but when you go into one of ranboos friends chats or comment sections and start either asking about ranboo, telling his friends to play with them, or making unnecessary references to their content, it makes their friends want to do things with them less! streamers are their own people. there’s nothing wrong with watching one of ranboo’s friends streams because ranboo is there, i do it all the time. a lot of us do. the biggest thing is to be RESPECTFUL to the person who’s stream you are watching. if you chat, chat to the streamer! you don’t have to mention ranboo. or, just stay out of chat if you don’t think you’ll be able to stay on topic. you don’t have to speak in chat! there is the flip side of this, don’t bring up other streamers in ranboos chat unnecessarily either! no one cares if you saw two colors and it made you think of something unrelated. it’s so disrespectful to the streamer to do this.

8a. unnecessary negativity

the internet can be a very negative, reactionary place. seeking out negativity just for the sake of an argument is unhealthy and can also expose others to arguments that they wouldn’t have had to see. bait, obvious unchanging bigots, and also people who just don’t like ranboo (which is valid!) don’t need to be engaged. in the case of trolls, bait and bigots, they only bring negativity and are there to cause arguments. don’t give them the attention they want. As for people who just don’t like ranboo, you can leave them be too! Not everyone has to like ranboo. he can handle it, you don’t need to defend him or try and change someone’s mind. now, unnecessary negativity does not equal call outs/criticism!

8b. please criticize !

if something happens in the community, or from ranboo directly that hurts you or makes you uncomfortable, don’t be afraid to say something and help make us all better people! ranboo wants criticism. if it’s purely in the community, try reaching out to the other person first! often things can be settled privately so as to not hurt others by dragging them into the conversation or making things heated and causing people to attack each other. on the other side of this, if you see criticism from someone and feel the need to defend ranboo: don’t. if you are affected by something (ie. you are a person of color and the topic is racism) feel free to add to the conversation! if you do not have an opinion on something (ie lesbians call out lesbiphobia, and you are straight) keep it to yourself. let the people actually affected by something talk and have an opinion, and support them. it may feel like people are “attacking” ranboo (or you!) but they are not. they are real people with real, valid feelings, who want to feel safe in a community when in real life, they may be constantly victims of horrible things. listen first. if you still have your own opinions, reflect on them and why you feel the way you do, and dissect any implicit bias you may have. these are all important things that keep a community safe, happy, and mutually respectful!

ranboo encourages everyone to be good people and use common sense. remember when you say something, people other than ranboo see it too! every account has a person behind it, so treat each other with respect and help make the community a more fun and safe place for everyone to be in. ranboo has no tolerance for bigotry, racism, misogyny, antisemitism, ableism, and so on. remember to be aware of the things you are saying, and if you don’t know why something is wrong, look it up or try asking someone politely!

thank you for taking the time to read all of this! this list is non exhaustive. there are plenty of other things you can do in the community to make this a better place, from uplifting the minorities in the community more, to supporting artists by reblogging/sharing and commenting on their art, and more. at the end of the day though we are here because we love ranboo, so by following guidelines like these and putting in the effort, you show ranboo and the other people in the community you care and make everyone proud.

i think in both regards to story, and in terms of meta/real life

doomsday and the destruction of l’manberg killed the server.

whether people were for or against or apart of l’manberg or not, it was a gathering point that brought people together to talk. it was a place people would hang out. it was a place with lots of chests to steal food and supplies from. in new l’manberg so so many people spent their time their even if they were completely unaffiliated or lived somewhere else.

storywise when it was destroyed, the story just lost a central characteristic for conflict, and a very important thing. l’manberg wasn’t just a place. it was ideals it was imagery, it was a goal, it was safety it was so many things, and with it gone with no hopes of returning, no matter how many new places people built they were all empty and never the same.

and with it gone everyone literally had to go their own ways. everyone who gathered there went far far away to make their own homes.

on a meta standpoint, people like talk about how much they miss old dream smp streams and that’s because of the non serious lore streams. where walking down a path and bumping into someone could lead to goofing off or serious talks.

where tommy could build a pathway from manberg to pogtopia for prime and for the upcoming rebellion, and get caught by a vice president who decided it was his day off and he was going to roleplay as a mcdonald’s worker.

it’s how you have tommy and tubbo goofing off on the server not doing lore, only for schlatt to see and they go lore mode and have to make up a pregnancy excuse.

it’s how you got silly serious moments. it’s also just straight up how you had people interact. if everyone lived hundreds of blocks away, it’s harder to just randomly run into each other while building or running to do something, meaning you’re less likely to talk, and less likely for anything to happen.

when l’manberg acted as a central hang out spot, people built their homes in close proximity, they would stick around the area and things naturally happened.

destroying l’manberg was, in my opinion, the worst thing they could have done. doomsday did very very little narratively to the story. the community house gathering did more to the story than doomsday did. and it was awful because tommy rallied people behind him to fight in doomsday not for him, but because if they could do this to l’manberg what would stop them from doing it to every other group.

and everyone fought, and despite an entire server fighting it was pointless.

the only thing doomsday did was force people to hide. and you can make claims for ranboo who went to live with phil and techno- but ranboo’s character arcs could’ve had a very similar outcome by staying with almost anyone else.

no l’manberg ultimately just drove everyone away, and there was never any serious or successful move to make anything on that server take its place, to fill the hole, so there was nothing to actively pull things together. no driving force or motivation, nothing to supply passive roleplay, nothing to bring people together.

everyone lost on doomsday. that loss of l’manberg meant no one could ever win again. just think about it. after doomsday, it was loss after loss.

the final disc confrontation? tommy and tubbo lost. they were rescued, but they lost their fight, and it was a trap anyway.

dream in prison? well he has punz on the outside, doesn’t matter, and he can control ranboo, and he still got to kill tommy AND ghostbur. it was a loss. and he escaped.

every single fight after. quackity lost, wilbur lost, tommy and tubbo lost again, and again. the server for everyone ended in a loss.

there was not ever a win again. usually in stories, after losses, you want something good to happen to make those hardships worth it. just like when good things happen you want bad things to happen to make it worth it, you need a balance.

think of the revolution. the up and down rollercoaster. the freedom into war into loss and death into hope into loss into compromise into win.

the election was a nail biting race where depending on who you voted for, was lose and a win. for tommy and wilbur it was a loss, but they quickly gathered things up, they had hope, and they had energy, and a plan, and techno joined and they were confident. there were ups and downs up until doomsday, afterword no character seemed to get an up. any positive was immediately trivialized. for example tommy’s decided to try and heal and make a hotel which was immediately turned into a problem where people tried to fight him over it and then he died. or he got a pet that made him happen and everyone tried to set it free or kill it. he finally starts to feel safe no relax and dream breaks loose, and he is endlessly stalked the entire time, and he dies alone with his abuser and his abuser’s accomplice.

there is never an up after doomsday, and killing l’manberg that day killed the dream smp.

I feel like Tommy would be SUPER awkward at first when it comes to physical affection

He’d be like 🧍🏼

But after a while he would ease into it

It may take him a while but once he is used to it? Oh boy don’t even get me started-

He’s just as cuddly as you

He HAS to be touching you in some was at all times

Whether it be an arm around your waist or shoulder, your hand in his, or even just interlocking pinkies.

If he's not able to touch you for some reason he'll be very sad

He still gets super flustered whenever you just come up and hug him out of nowhere

He's a blushing mess but if anyone points it out he completely denies it

"Are you blushing?"

"WhAt? nO?!"

Its very funny watching him try and deny it actually

He also LOVES LOVES LOVES cuddles

i think you two probably cuddle like this

he just likes to face you totally not because he likes to admire your face and press tiny kisses to your forehead while your sleeping

overall i feel like you and Tommy would be very good cuddle buddies

He would be so happy to have someone just as clingy as him

When he begins to realise how cuddly you are he’s like “:0”

Cuddles 24/7

I feel like he’d be a personal heater

Which may be a problem when cuddling in the summer time but who cares, cuddles are cuddles

He’s definitely love laying his head on your chest when you two are laying down

He likes to hear your heart beat

Also he loves loves LOVES holding your hand

I also think he would just melt if you ever fiddled/played with his fingers

Like if you two are sitting down on the couch watching a movie or something and his arm is around your shoulder

And then you just play gently with his fingers without even realising it

He would be like “hahahehwjdjekskjdj I love you I love you I love you”

He would also go absolutely CRAZY if you play with his hair

Like if his head is on your chest and you just bring your hands up to play with his hair- oml

He would breakdown with tears of happiness on the spot

Also you cannot tell me you two would cuddle like this

Yeah you two are so cuddly and cute it makes me so happy just thinking about it

I feel like ranboo himself wouldn’t be very cuddly

But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t ADORE the fact that you are

Oh and a random spin-off dark SBI idea based on this

So superhero!Techno gets thrown into max security prison after taking the fall to protect his sidekick Ranboo. While in there he meets Wilbur, a locked-up supervillain. Maybe they've fought each other before for extra spice? Wilbur - who is a Big Deal in prison and sees an opportunity - promises to help protect Techno from getting murdered by the dozens of other supervillains who are out for him. Wilbur is very vague about what he wants in return. Techno is not happy about it, but no matter how good he is, he knows he can't make it in prison by himself with all these guys who hate his guts looking to hurt him. So he accepts.

It's purely transactional for Wilbur at first but ofc ofc they get to know each other and Wilbur does that typical dark sbi thing where he gets kind of endeared to who Techno is as an actual person (maybe Techno voices his dislike for the hero system, he knows it can be corrupt, he just thinks joining them and trying to make things better from the inside is better than being a villain). And Wilbur just discovers they have a lot in common and he thinks Techno is funny.

At one point Wilbur discovers Techno is only in jail because he's trying to keep Ranboo safe and it rings some bell about protectiveness and Tommy (bonus points if Wilbur is actually only in prison bc he got caught keeping Tommy out of jail). This makes Wilbur decide Techno is much too good a person to be exploited by the heroes and his family + himself would be a much better fit for Techno!

Long story short, Wilbur decides "oh this guy is funky he should be ours".

So by the time The Crowfather comes to break his son out of prison, Wilbur demands they bring Techno with them. Whether Techno wants to or not.

And hey, Phil has always thought the famous hero Protesilaus was a fascinating person. He has no objections.

You'd been trapped on the SAW carousel of death, alike many of the others you'd come to know a bit better, having been trapped for hours and hours here. You were surrounded by a large gate, trapped by a man who thought he was attractive, joined by two human sized rats who could speak English. Somehow, his wasn't the weirdest situation you'd ever gotten into.

Finally, Ranboo, your savior, enters the room.

He gets the carousel up and running, deciding to get a little imput on who to bring with him on his adventure, which would include lots of puzzles and thinking. Both of which you weren't good at.

You sit next to Niki, whom could apparently sob for hours on end. She wears a bright red outfit, paired with a bucket hat. It contrasted her split dyed hair, which looked very nice on her.

You were the next to try and convince Ranboo on why they should take you with them.

"Uh, hello, I'm Y/n. I'm not great at puzzles, but uhm... I'm good at being funny! And I think really deeply about things, and I mean, if there's a deeper meaning to things, then I can definitely solve your puzzles! I-I just wanna go home, I'm gonna be honest. I miss my family and my pets, and I wanna live. I really wanna live, I've barely gotten to experience life yet, please"

Ranboo looks at you solemly, looking over at the man in charge. He looked at you like he knew you, but you'd never seen the masked boy before. It was so weird, but you felt like something deep inside of you recognized them too. You just didn't know from where. It was like the scent of something familiar, but you couldn't put your finger on it.

You're left tied to the carousel once they leave with Nikki and Sneeg. You, Austin, Ethan, Vinny, and Frank sit in silence, pondering of when the three sticks of dynamite wrapped around your necks would explode. Frank would be the only survivor, but he's also a rotting corpse, so I mean... Eh.

But, they never exploded, surprisingly. Vinny was actually the next one to be able to leave, somehow. You strike a conversation with the New Jersian surfer bro Charlie, laying on a stretcher a few feet away.

"So, like, why were you eating non-edibles, and how'd you even shove them down your throat?"

"They just slid down, man. Like that one scene from Stand By Me, I ate a bunch of raw eggs right before that" He answers with a nod, "My eyeballs hurt"

You nod and mumble a "Same"

Austin and Ethan are next to be untied, traveling through some Coraline door tunnels, leaving you, Frank, and Charlie alone in the carousel room. You sit silently, hoping you'd be able to escape.

Maybe that's what the game was, a puzzle game to freedom.

Your hopes for freedom shot through the roof as you sit in silence, begging and pleading in your head for the rats to come back for you. Charlie seemed to be pretty dead at this point, considering all the... blood. Everywhere.

But, alas, came your time to shine. You were never the bright one of the group. You just kind of looked at things and reached way too far into it. I dunno, maybe being instructed to solve puzzles with dynamite around your neck wasn't the most chill environment where you'd be thinking level-headedly.

But, you powered through, trying to get your way out of the final door.

You were with Austin, Ran, and Sneeg, with no sign of Ethan, Vinny, or Niki. There was a target on one wall, a button with a large sign that read to not push the button, a TV covered by static, and random trinkets and games lining the shelves.

The first thing you all thought about was the target, considering apparently Jerma said that the challenge would be hard. Hitting the one hundred on the tiny target would've been hard, so he and Ranboo try their best to do it with no luck. At one point, Austin decides to just mimic the suction cup arrow hitting the one hundred, which did nothing, either because he cheated or it just wasn't the way out.

You and Sneeg look around while you try to think that maybe certain items had to be in certain places, leading to you frantically organizing all the trinkets and games. Ranboo looks at you with worry, seeing your face full of fear. It was like they almost knew what was coming next but didn't know how to help you.

Ranboo turns around and stares at the button while Austin and Sneeg almost discourage him, considering a couple sticks of dynamite lay right under it. It wouldn't make sense to use reverse psychology, but it also wouldn't make sense to put it there solely to kill whoever was near and damage the room.

The boy with the mask quickly presses the button, waiting for the explosion that never came. You turn to see the door opening across from you, and you look back at the tall boy with a light smile and thumbs up. You place the board game you were carrying across the room down, seeing that you didn't need it anymore.

A voice (The Puzzler) speaks over the loudspeaker, informing you only one could fit through the hole, which was just a lie? But only one of you was supposed to progress.

Austin tries to fight for the exit and Sneeg pulls him back while the floor slowly moves him through the hole. The lights turned off, and you didn't remember anything after that.

Or even before that.

You woke up a new person, streaming in your room until Ranboo, who you didn't even see for a solid minute, interrupts you by pulling your headphones off.

"Holy shit! Dude, I'm streaming" You speak, jumping out of your skin.

"We need to go, come on!" He exclaims, "You can get back to it later, but we need to go, now!"

You look around, seeing you were inside one of the malls food court shops behind the counter. Your setup was nearly the same, but behind you was a bunch of posters and meal menus. You quickly stand up, trusting the boy you called a friend, hopping over the counter.

"What the hell is going on?" You ask him and Charlie.

Charlie shrugs while Ranboo turns around.

"Do-Do you not remember the cabin thing? Th-The warehouse? It's all just been a show, I mean-"

He's cut off by silence as you approach a funeral/grave inside one of the shops nearby, the headstone reading 'RIP THE PUZZLER'.

"Okay, Ran, what's going on? What do you mean it's been a show? Who the fuck is The Puzzler?" You ask them, trying to make sense of your confusion.

"Wait, no, we aren't the only ones, are we?" Charlie asks, his hands on his head, "There's-There's Sneeg and- shit! There's Niki and Ethan, and, uhm, fuck! We- We have to find them! We need to help them!"

Ranboo tries their best to calm him down, but has to resort to the last option.

"There is no saving them! We have to go, now. We just have to get out of here, maybe we can find help, I dont know!"

The three of you try to progress towards the stairs but slowly back away after seeing some... person (?) standing in front of the doors, back faced towards you.

"What are those?"

"I-I don't know, back up"

"Please explain what those fucking things are"

"I-I've been told that they're human, I think! It's some type of facility, I don't know what's going on"

"What if we find one of those map things?" You suggest, "To find where we are and to find another exit."

"Good idea"

Ran quickly leads you two to a mall map, where Charlie finds the 'you are here' dot. The two try and find an exit while you do a little exploring into the dark, and notice some feet down to your right.

You slowly look down, being greeted by one of those guys from earlier, head banged into the back of the directory, blood dripping down the screen. You slowly progress forward, seeing a silhouette in the distance.

The two quickly notice your disappearance and see the dead guy, calling for you as they see whatever thing in the distance stand up and growl. You don't listen, like you couldn't hear them, and progress onwards.

"Y/n! Come on, we're leaving!" Charlie shouts as you fade into the darkness in silence.

You're thrown back by a compelling force, being thrown all the way back to the escalator past Ranboo and Charlie, hitting your head to knock you out. The two run to your aid, your eyes closed.

Ran quickly notices that most of your midsection was torn away, revealing your ribcage. He's only able to stare as Charlie quickly pulls him away, seeing the creature that hurt you was gaining on them.

They run as fast as they could.

Ranboo pulls at their mask, just wanting out.

He sits on his knees, pulling and pulling, feeling the wires pulling inside them.

"Get off of me!"

They cry, feeling their eyes roll back into their skull as they pull the mask further and further away from their face. Their hands grip at the top of the mask, trying to rip the back off of their neck.

They'd cut themselves over and over again on the metal, their hands bloody, staining the contraption that controlled them.

They didn't want to live. They wanted to die. Why didn't they let him die? Why did he have to live? He didn't want to be like this. He didn't want to do this! He didn't want to live like this!

They scream in agony, making one final pull on the mask before they drop to the floor. Wires tangle in their throat, the final backing piece of the mask snapping in two.

They lay on the cold, hard, floor, blood pouring out of any extremity possible. Wires hang about, halfway pulled out of their body.

"Just kill me already, damnit"

“Careful, it’s hot.” Philza passed Dream a cup of tea, who took it cautiously. Dream wrapped his hands around the cup; his hands were cold and the cup was warm. It was nice. “It went well, mates?”

“We got everything we wanted done, so I’d say yeah, it did,” Technoblade answered, hanging his cape up on a hook.

Punz scoffed, rolling their eyes. “You don’t say, Technoblade.” They looked back at Phil and Dream. “I mean, he’s dead now and the whole place’s burnt to the ground. It’s taken care of.”

Niki smiled at the two of them brightly. “It’s safe to say we won’t have to worry about them anymore, right?” she asked, sitting down on the couch and narrowly avoiding sitting on Dream’s toes.

“Thanks, guys.” Dream knew they wanted him to say that, and he didn’t want to disappoint them. “Like, that’s great, thank you, but did you have to do that–”

“He hurt you,” Techno interrupted. “Quackity hurt you, and we needed to make sure that he would regret that.”

“Exactly,” Punz acquiesced. “We might not of had to do that, but we fucking wanted to, Dream.” (“My poor monetization,” Techno grumbled.) “He deserved it, and there needs to be consequences sometimes or everyone’s going to be running around doing whatever the hell they want.”

“I can’t speak for everyone here, but I think it’s safe to say that we care about you, and, uh, we don’t like people we care about getting cut up by people we don’t,” Ranboo volunteered from where he was hovering.

(Phil offered Punz a cup of tea as well, and they took it. “Thanks.” The mercenary pulled out a chair and settled down)

“I couldn’t of said it better myself,” Techno agreed, and Ranboo puffed up a little bit at the approval. “We care, Dream. Even if you don’t want to admit it, it’s the truth.”

“Uh-huh.” Niki smiled over at Dream. “We care, and that’s the important thing here. We’re family at this point.”

“You have a point there,” Techno commented. “A very good point.” He glanced over a Dream. “You hear that? You’re never gettin’ rid of us.”

“Nope,” Punz remarked, smiling crookedly. “Not even this ‘until death’ shit. We all know that’s stupid.”

Dream rolled his eyes. “You know that I’m the necromancer here, right? I could just, like, not bring you back.”

(He and Punz still hadn’t told the rest of the Syndicate about the Revival Book situation. They didn’t need to know about it. It would just invite too many questions)

“I think it’s a bit late for that, mate,” Phil told him, smiling faintly. “You wouldn’t still be here if that was actually a possibility.”

“Fine, fine,” Dream compromised. “I’ll stop. I’d totally bring all of you guys back if you died.”

“Good to know. Now I don’t have to worry about losing any of my lives,” Technoblade joked. “I can do as much stupid stuff as I want now.”

Dream glared at him. “That’s not what I said, Techno.”

“It basically is,” Punz responded. “Also, there seems to be a bit of double standard there, you know, considering the fact that you literally locked yourself up in prison.”

Niki grimaced. “Not your greatest moment, was it?”

“Let’s not talk about it right now. Doesn’t matter.” Dream really didn’t want to talk about that right now. (Or ever, really)

“Thanks, I guess.” Dream pulled the blanket tighter around himself. He wanted to just make sure about one thing, but it would be showing vulnerability, opening himself up to admitting that he cared and getting hurt…

“Just checking but…you’re not going to leave, right?”

“Of course not, Dream. You’re one of us now. Yes, yes, I said it chat, you can stop screaming now.” Techno rolled his eyes but sobered up quickly. “You’re family, Dream.”

how to write c!tntduo's characterisation, and where people normally go wrong

1. must be as invested as each other in their rivalry and must be invested for the same reasons

with their rivalry, you can't have it so one's doing it for attention and the other is just doing it in retaliation. they both want this.

you see c!wilbur purposely seek out somebody to help with his burger van business to piss c!quackity off, and then see c!quackity do the exact same thing. they both try to get at each other and are both super invested in their dynamic.

making their thing sort of 'unrequited' (or something like that) completely defeats how they both are obsessing over it and trying to win.

"but c!quackity said he doesn't think about c!wilbur at all!!!!!" c!quackity lies we know this. go watch this stream where he rants a lot about c!wilbur.

2. they are as worse as each other and make each other worse

they are both as bad as each other. they both hurt the people they love and don't know how to fix it. it's one of the reasons their dynamic works so well. they both have the a lot of the same problems, and when pitted against each other they amplify the others' problems.

they bring out the worst in each other, by agonising and indulging in their need to prove themselves - which ends up in them taking it too far and hurting the people they love (and not knowing how to fix it <- they try to learn this in their finales)

"oh but c!wilbur did-" "c!quackity did-" this is about their motives and how they interact with each other.

3. they hate each other. but also care

this one's hard to get, i don't blame you if you fuck this one up.

if you go back to the elections era, (im going to talk specifically about the white house stream and the elections night stream) you can see c!wilbur, while building the white house with c!q & c!tommy, that he "[felt] he really with Big Q [that night]." then, when the c!quackity says he is joining c!schlatt's party, you hear c!wilbur say "i thought [c!quackity] cared [about l'manburg] but..." showing that he believed when c!quackity said he wanted to better the nation.

then, later on in the stream where c!quackity joins pogtopia, c!wilbur brings c!q & c!tommy to the button room, yet refuses to press it once they both say they'll die if he presses that button.

finally, in c!wilbur's finale, he drags himself, a little shamefully, to las nevadas to make sure he apologises. and c!quackity leaves him his own book after his own finale. they want to make amends, because they care. their dynamic has had so much of an impact on each other, and they couldn't have just left it to get lost in the sand.

4. they are as smart as each other

c!tntduo are both very smart. c!wilbur is known for his silver tongue, being able to talk his way out of almost ever situation. c!quackity has been lying since the goddamn elections and has become absurdly good at it, getting what he wants out of people.

they're both also really good at figuring out what people want.

in the stream where c!wilbur recruits c!ranboo for the wilburger business, you see him go to c!phil first. here, you see him tell him that he's doing it for taking down capitalism and helping to stop gambling. but, when he goes to c!ranboo barely five minutes later, he tells him that its because he's changing and that he wants to get better. both of these are lies, we can tell because then c!wilbur just rants about getting back at c!quackity for the rest of the stream (really fucking slick king).

then, we see c!quackity do tactics like this to get people to join las nevadas. he figures out what they love or what's scaring them or what they have, and use it against them for his own greater purpose.

are these good things? not at all, this can go in the they are as worse as each other point as well, but it also proves they can both be very smart when it comes to social mind games.

TLDR; they balance each other out. they are literally yin and yang (refer to c!wilbur literally calling c!quackity his yang). they are meant to balance each other out. and they both want their dynamic equally.

With the ‘write/draw this in your style’ c!bee event do you have any tips for writing c!Tubs? I haven’t been involved with the dsmp for over a year and you portray him so well

hmm honestly my best advice for capturing his voice is to, number one, read this post, and number two, watch old vods (especially ones with ranboo in them if your focus is c!bee) and just write down tubbo's dialogue in a google doc as you go, stutters and all (thanks @metfell for this tip)

as for writing his actual character, again, my advice is rely on vods! note how he reacts to things, who he gets angry at, who he doesn't get angry at, etc. and here's a few tips that have helped me:

when writing any character, it's always tempting to give them extreme reactions to plot points and dialogue and things, but trust me, when you're writing ctubbo's reaction to something serious, always underestimate his initial reaction. he can build up to big explosive arguments or speeches (see: telling c!Q off for wanting to execute ranboo; when exiling c!tommy last minute), but he almost always defaults to politeness unless aggressive action is absolutely necessary.

that being said this is a nuanced thing because while he prefers to be friendly, he also has a very "vicious or i die" thing where he needs to appear powerful in order to survive

similarly, when told something shocking, it takes him a moment to understand and process it. he tends to go silent and then ask questions in confusion. (see: when reacting to c!ranboo's death, he was silent for a full minute, and then asked, "how? how has this happened? why would sam do this?") and of course you can always bring out the good ol "surely not"

aand uh i think that's all i have for now! please let me know if you have like specific questions but i hope this helps

So, Ponk needs to leave, and Sam is the only one who can watch Dream while he’s gone. There’s absolutely nothing that could go wrong with this plan, and Dream just needs to somehow convince Ranboo and Punz of that. He’s really not having much luck.

Ponk asked several times to make sure Dream was... well comfortable was a hell of an ask, but at the very least sure in his choice to let Sam watch over him.

The two of them managed to figure out the terms of what Sam could be told. Dream assented to Sam being told that he was having temporary balance and hearing issues related to the Warden’s sonic attack. It’s important to Dream that Ponk stress that this is all temporary. And that Dream is still capable of doing stuff himself if he needed to, it’s just that Ponk couldn’t ethically leave him alone as a doctor.

Ponk agrees to all of that, and tastefully doesn’t point out that there are risks of long term damage, and that Dream absolutely could not be left alone without the risk of that long term damage increasing.

Sam’s job will just be bringing specific food (no more soup, only things that Dream can eat on his own, and from a specific list of rabbit safe items which pointedly does not include potatoes) help with Dream getting over to the bathroom for at least a few days, and help administer the ear drops.

Ponk also gives Dream like three knives with special handles just in case, because like, yeah good mobility is great but a sharp knife swung wildly will still do a hell of a lot of damage to someone whose unarmored, which is a requirement for Sam to be anywhere near Ponk’s house. Sam has been told there are safeguards in place, but not given any more details to prevent attempts to circumvent them.

Ponk himself has heavily mixed feelings, but it’s the only real option they have since the only other person staying behind that he could even think to ask is Punz, and Ponk is sure that Punz would sell Dream out. He already did it once, clearly he’d do it again. Sam hasn’t sold Dream out despite already knowing where he is and at the very least that he wasn’t in great condition, so despite his apprehensions, Ponk makes the call to leave helping Dream up to him.

Ponk tells the rest of the server that he’s getting packed up to leave, and that Sam will be staying at his house to recover safely. Nobody should bother him since he needs lots of rest and is nervous about having other people around while his vision is still healing. Message ahead if they need to visit.

Ponk leaves that evening, hoping everything will be okay when he gets back. If nothing else, he’s got a special upgrade for his communicator that will allow for check ins every so often.

Meanwhile, Dream sits and stares at his communicator for about half an hour, trying to decide how to break the news to Punz and Ranboo who heard about Ponk going on the trip and were making suggestions for plans.

He considers lying, he really does, but if he says he’s unsupervised then they’ll want to come by and discover his lie.

So he decides to just say fuck it.

“slight change of plans. ponk has to go to the raid. cant really walk rn, or balance. will be better soon. sam already knew and on truce bc of hunters, offered to help while ponk has to leave. should only be for a week. safeguards in place. everything should be back to normal in two weeks. will resume contact at that point.”

He really wanted to just leave it there and refuse to respond to messages after that, but he knew that was liable to end very poorly.

It took about 10 seconds for punz to reply, followed directly by Ranboo.

“absolutely not.”

“^”

Dream started trying to type out a response, only for Punz to cut him off.

“i’m coming to get you.”

Fuck, no, they absolutely could not do this. Dream was fine. Nothing was going to go wrong.

“dont you dare, it’s fine, there’s safeguards and we’re on truce because of the hunter’s involvement. i won’t let him do anything. ponk gave me weapons and a few special potions. it’s totally under control. i did not go through pandora just for you to ruin your cover now.”

It was a low blow, but hopefully one that would get Punz to listen.

There was a long, long pause. Finally, Punz replied.

“you check in every day, twice a day. if you miss either check in, ranboo kills him and we get you to safety.”

Okay, thank god, Dream could work with this. He almost agreed right away, before pausing to consider feasibility.

“if i miss a checkin, ranboo can check my room at ponks. im sleeping a lot and tracking time is hard right now. theres no reason for me to be out of the room without checkin though. if one of you can sneak a tracker in here, i can stick it on my comm if that’ll convince you. if anything goes wrong, ill send a message for help.”

The message for help would be going to Foolish, not them, but Dream didn’t need to clarify that. It was a valid technicality. There was another pause, before finally he got the response he was hoping for.

“fine. ill drop off a tracker in a bit.”

A beat, and then another text followed.

“please be safe.”

It left a lump in Dream’s throat, it made all the anxiety about Sam being anywhere near him, let alone in charge of bringing him food and fuck, his knife wasn’t enough, this was such a stupid fucking idea-

For one singular, terrible moment, Dream almost caved. He reached out, wanting to send a message asking for Punz to come get him. To get him somewhere safe and far away from Sam, because he couldn’t do this again.

But his hands were shaking too much to type. Whether from his most recent damage or that from the prison, he couldn’t tell, but it reminded him of how much he’d already given up. He’d done so much to get to this point. He couldn’t waste everything now. It would be worth it in the end. When things were okay again.

He bit down the urge to ask for help like a child and instead focused on the rational. The logical. If Sam wanted to take him back to the prison or hurt him, he would’ve just called Quackity from the start. Not Ponk. He would’ve just told the server where Dream was before a bunch of people left.

Clearly, Sam felt indebted and like taking advantage of something the hunters had caused was unfair. Dream could use that for now, and once he was well enough to run, he would do so and then things would go back to exactly how they were before. Both of them could forget that anything ever happened here. It was invalid. Struck from the record.

So he took a deep breath and got himself under control. After a moment, he managed to steady his hands enough to type.

“i’ll be fine.“

With that, he shut off his communicator and flopped back on the bed. Exhausted as he repeated that one little phrase over and over again in his head, hoping to find a way to make it stop tasting like a lie.

I got an ask asking about the Nikifold breakup timeline but I accidentally deleted it, so this was the response that was meant to be attached to it.

(Archive readers, I got cold feet on the post that this was a response to saying that it’s looking like the Nikifold relationship ended in cheating. It’s still a possibility, but as I sat on it for longer I got lost in the possible loose ends so I nuked the initial post and went over the source videos again.)

It was, at least, a suspiciously close shave. It might be safter to say that the thing that burned the Nikifold /p bridge for good was the relationship between Jack and Eleanor. I’m not the best at keeping track of solid timelines when it comes down to it but there have been suspicious breadcrumbs along the way that suggest that some interest was shown before Jack and Niki properly separated, and that there was some overlap there.

My read on nikifold was that it was a situationship or had some ambiguity attached to it rather than a straightforward relationship-- the kind of setup that gives you feelings but no solid container to put them in. I want to say that they went abruptly sour around July-August. If I go back to the ‘large, unlabeled blowout’ theory, there was a severing point where things became quite abruptly not good between them. The simplest answer may be that this was Jack and Eleanor having flirtations, but it could be more textured than that and they only started moving closer together after that point rather than that being the turning point itself. I have kept in mind that the cheek kiss video (July 2022) probably introduced a lot of pressure into their dynamic and the question of being public or ‘official’ started hanging over them a lot more aggressively, throwing fuel on the fire.

(Edit from future: Between Jack saying that his ex girlfriend hexed him and Niki saying she burnt the scrapbook of her previous relationship because he cheated, this looks more like a traditional hidden relationship that ended in cheating. hindsight is 2020.)

I’ll show my work so you get what I’m trying to interpret:

“we’ve been together nearly six months” -Jack “I have a girlfriend” VOD, uploaded February 20th 2023. Jack states that they got together in August after not speaking since their first meetup at a party in June 2022. Both agreed that their first dates could be described as parties that they happened to both be at where they spent the majority of their time together.

August 2022 feels like the action zone. A lot of the timestamps are imprecise because it takes a while for vods to get posted and vlogs to get edited, but things seemed normal-ish until around this month.

August 16th, Niki posted this tiktok, what a way to begin the end. (Another edit: I remember Niki wearing this exact outfit a bit before this was posted, and the longer I’ve sat on it the more it seems like she make this tiktok draft privately for fun and then posted it on the day that ‘something happened.’)

Jack and Niki Willingly spent time together for the Sleepover vlog posted on August 20th, clip on the ranboo vods channel places the filming time around august 13th, probably even earlier than that – Them moving at the same time in the same direction in the vlog felt very “duo-y” to me, and backs up that the final stream together wasn’t just a fulfilled obligation to stream.

Vod from when they last streamed together posted August 28th likely streamed earlier in the month, Streaming isn’t dating but going from how bad their public separation got there’s at least some significance to this. (Edit: had a look at a website that marked this as August 12th, an interestingly wide delay between recording and upload)

Niki does a stream about going on break for her mental health (briefly, not the focus of the stream at all) brings up being single and how she has wanted to avoid the feelings of dependency that relationships bring due to BPD. A lot of people relate to this as one of the big separation landmarks. - Very quick clip channels date this around the 29th, Niki states that she took two weeks off where she didn’t have any contact with the internet, which would ballpark the start of the break around the 16th.

Disclaimer is that I don’t want to completely attribute the state of Niki’s mental health to the state of her relationships, she’s got an enormous amount on her plate with or without her romantic life. It’s just that this seemed to be a turning point in the timeline where the before and after of her and Jack seems to abruptly shift and get progressively worse from there, it’s still hard to play ‘chicken or the egg’ from outside.

“The second time we met up and I slept here is when the queen died” – Jack, talking about September 8th 2022, a very solid time stamp because of the world event attached to it. Both at a boat party where they spent the majority of their time together the day before. Jack says that this was when they were still trying to figure out if they were together or if this would just be a series of hookups, which means that they were ‘together’ at least once before.

“I got three new tattoos and a piercing this week” – September 15th TikTok from Niki, strongly suggesting that they were related to recent emotional turmoil.

This toktok from Eleanor is interesting because it suggests that Jack was a “Guy she told her ex not to worry about.” I don’t know what her personal breakup timeline was but that could give some more detail to when they came in contact and what their chemistry was at the time.

Something happened that caused raw feelings, most people following the story seem to agree with that. If it was only the fallout from the video causing the meltdown I’m compelled to believe things would have been somewhat more sympathetic than they turned out to be. Niki has been peaceful with exes before so it seems that there’s a schism here that goes beyond a mutually agreed upon separation.

The fork in the road keeps presenting itself, either this was a breakup quickly followed by Jack and Eleanor becoming an item or there was some overlap. The thing that’s driving me crazy is I swore that somewhere along the way I saw a post where Niki overtly said something along the lines of wanting a BF who doesn’t cheat, but I can’t find it for the life of me, so the situation stays murky in my brain.

this is gonna be long oops

c!sam is one of the only characters where i have nearly full faith in regarding authorial intent, for starters. Sam The Dude (bringing that back) is obviously very self aware of his characters morally ambiguous and sometimes straight up ethically bankrupt actions, and everything he does with consideration for his character and the plot makes sense to me up until. Well.. c!sam's prison arc. But all of the consequences of that arc are still up in the air and I still stand by sam's understanding of the metatextual implications of his characters actions. Because oh boy does sam GET CONSEQUENCES. However for now I'm keeping my distance from that until we get some more c!hotelduo shit.

I think Sam The Guy is an expert at writing his character's hypocrisy compared to, say, c!techno's. C!Techno does things selfishly and impulsively, and doubles down on the decisions he makes regardless of how destructive or hurtful they are to anyone who isn't him or his friends. This is largely in part perpetuated by his character never reaping the consequences of those actions. That's a fact, not an opinion. So his hypocrisy in relation to his principles (his hatred for any form of government) feels antagonistic and almost goofy when you realize that makes him the defacto government, if he is to be the judge jury and executioner of the smp's organized communities. See the syndicate and snowchester or literally any ctechno stream post bedrockbros arc.

Now look at C!Sam. Sam does everything to follow HIS principles, but has extremely little regard for himself and other people, aside from C!Tommy. While attempting to make things more safe, his downfall lies in that code becoming an obsession, leading to him to justify mutilating his ex and stopping tommy from killing dream in C!wilburs revival stream for the sake of containing the real threat. And most notably, we figure out that sam somehow found out about c!ranboo's association with c!dream, which is a concept that explains a myriad of fatal errors with pandora's vault security and some experiences inside it. C!Sam killing c!ranboo is awful, sure, but there's this thing called DRAMATIC IRONY, where we know it wasn't truly c!Ranboo (debatable, given how ranboo The Guy abandoned his damn character) who carried out the plan with the explosives that lead to c!tommy's death and subsequent revival, but c!sam doesn't. And once again, the cycle of violence is repeated. However, for all these things, C!Sam faces dire punishments. Probably more than any character on the server.

C!Ponk and c!sam will probably never heal their relationship. As much as C!sam may regret it or feel remorse for hurting them, c!ponk has every right to be scornful and hold resentment towards him for the rest of their lives. C!tommy, someone c!sam has held dear throughout the entire show and arguably values the most, HATES him and never wants to see him again after his incidents. C!tubbo and his murder squad put him in the prison HE OVERSAW SECURITY FOR.... punishments left and right at this point.

And this is why his character and his hypocrisy are more tragic to me. All of this comes to a head when C!dream, someone he shouldn't even feel remorse towards, kills him after he wakes him up to his own cruelty and murders him for the keycards. C!Sam is constantly hurting himself and others and being brutally punished afterwards, without learning much, because he feels like his principles justify his actions. But now he has no need for these principles, since the prison has been rendered obsolete and he's lost everyone he wants to protect.

Which is why I feel his redemption arc would be the most rewarding at this point in the story. He seems to finally be recognizing his errors. sam feels like the type of character to not want this guilt to destroy him more than it already has, and if I had control over this story, or even the room with sam The Guy, I'd ask him to start with c!tommy. His redemption starts back at the beginning: protecting this kid from a monster. Except this time, he does it right, and he does it because he not only cares for him, but he owes it to him, as both the adult and as someone who is distinctly aware of c!tommy's suffering at the hands of c!dream.

Same anon as from before, first of all the tangets were wonderful and really nice to read so thank you <3 and second of all something i forgot to mention previously: TOMMY!!!! His whole "i don't think i want a girlfriend" was AMAZING and i really hope they come back to that at some point bc just,,,, watching them discover their identities and feelings just makes this so realistic and such an amazing read!! Also him just admitting to himself that yeah he finds Ranboo hot, 10/10 no notes <3

I'm going to go on a tangent now, sorry about that, but i think you do an amazing job of showing how complex aro relationships are and how much thought and consideration actually goes into them! I feel like sometimes aro relationships and/or QPRs are portrayed as,, sort of easy? Bc it's "friendship" or whatever? But like i've definitely spent time and thoughts on trying to figure out what i actually feel and what i want out of a relationship and even "what if this is actually romantic attraction" so it makes me feel so so so seen when those same themes are coming into play here! (No idea if you are planning on delving deeper into that but no matter what i'm really thankful for what we already got <3)

first of all YES absolutely coming back to that. tommy has always thought he needed to have a wife and kids one day as a way to like... prove himself better than his dad. like if he could be a good husband and father it would be proof that he was better than his dad and that he wasnt like... too "damaged" from his childhood. and realizing that he doesnt in fact want that is a really big thing for him that hes only now starting to deal with.and YEAH. let me. let me bring you back to one of my favorite winterlude lines (whjich. man im rereading that rn. because i forgot my own story. and bro how was i allowed to make them so god dam gay in that.)

"He pulled back, looking up at them. Their hair had fallen to almost entirely cover their face, so he tucked it back again, because he happened to think their face was quite nice. The gentle glow of the string lights illuminated Ranboo softly, and their smile had so much warmth and so much adoration, and Tommy wondered when he had fallen in love with them."

secondly, THANK YOU!! honestly i just try to write things that feel real to me. i do a TON of research for things i dont experience, but as an aroace person and someone in a lot of aroace spaces online, i just write what i know. i DO absolutely want to delve into it more, because the relationships are such a major part of drdi and all relationships are gonna be complex. especially the trio like... theyve all got trauma and shitty relationships in their past, and on top of that they're in what is becoming a very serious, committed relationship. theres gonna be lots of feelings and complexities and stuff. theyre also not all aroace which means theres varying feelings going into the relationship which certainly isnt BAD but it adds more! the trio's relationship is just very unique as QPRs often are!!! i am very excited to keep delving into all of that its gonna be so fun!!!

okay but the discussions that dsmp brought up today (11/12/2022) were so interesting.

so from tommy and tubbo's perspective, you don't have to know everything. and perhaps more importantly you don't want to know everything. but from dream and punz's perspective, it's safer to know everything so that you can avoid the pain altogether.

but do you learn and grow as a person if you aren't letting yourself feel anything? and is it worth living forever if you're stuck with who you are right now? not that now is bad, just that it's a human thing to want to improve. that's how our species survives.

onto what we learned in the stream: killing and reviving people mercilessly for the sake of science causes a lot of unnecessary pain, and we know that because of the lasting effects it had on c!tommy. c!lazar and c!vik were never fully developed characters like c!tommy and c!ranboo and c!wilbur were and the audience doesn't know what their true intentions would have been, but that certainly doesn't mean they should be tortured. [Nobody deserves that except for Dream and Punz because they purposefully and knowingly inflicted that pain on others.]

interestingly, both dream and punz had died and been brought back. limbo's supposed to be like the worst thing ever, right, but if you know there's an end to it, maybe it's not as bad. which bring us to if there's no end to life.

but the point about all of this is that the very existence of a revival book means that life will eventually become meaningless if death is not real. and if none of your meaningless actions have consequences, why would you waste time thinking about ethics? it's true that if the revival book fell into someone else's hands, the means to the end would have been different, but i'm not sure their end goal would be any different.

most characters on the dsmp want power. there are exceptions, but that's really what drives a lot of them. and for good reason; they've been taken from and taken from their entire lives and they just need some stability. it makes sense.

the difference between dream and punz and most characters is that the two of them believe themselves to be so physically powerful that their actions have never had real consequences on them because nobody could deeply hurt them. i'm honestly interested in seeing if punz reacts to his bees being blown up because that was something he really cared about before him and dream made an alliance.

i remember them making an alliance. it was outside of the shell of the unfinished prison right next to bad and skeppy's house. dream knew there would be a target on his head and he knew he needed an inconspicuous but powerful ally like punz. i know that at first dream paid punz but it seems like out of nowhere punz developed this loyalty to dream beyond the money. perhaps with the reveal of the revival book?

most characters, however, think a lot before they act. though they are deeply flawed, tommy and jack and niki and ranboo and tubbo and puffy, they have their loyalties and desires but they think about the consequences before committing to something because consequences are real to them.

when consequences aren't real, people go bad. the existence of the revival book and the dream-punz alliance meant that consequences didn't exist for them anymore and what little left of their morals they had eroded away because it was unnecessary. why operate by someone else's rules if you have the power to make your own?

anyway this story is so interwoven and interesting and somehow they're almost done (THERE'S SO MUCH LEFT OPEN??) but yeah i hope you enjoyed my thoughts on the tiny little block men.

[“You also don’t have to worry about that sort of thing too much given your status.” / “But you do?” Tomys asked, raising an eyebrow. / Fighting to keep his face neutral, Wilbur shrugged.] despite his childishness, there’s still potential in Tomys. He reads between the lines perfectly here. And Wilbur is trying so hard to pretend that it’s not a big deal rather than his biggest fear in life.

[Legally, I hold no title. So yes, I do have to be more careful with the impression I leave on others.”] Every chapter there is at least one line that makes me feel so bad for Wilbur (there’s a lot in general, but a few jump out), this is one of them. It describes him perfectly, always aware of what others need to think of him. Always keeping his cards close to his chest.

And Tomys picks up that it must be stressful but then does the exact opposite and just speaks his mind and calls it prissy in the same breath, which pisses Wilbur off, because he’s so close to getting it yet he’s not taking it seriously. (Also I love rose!Wilbur having and subsequently losing his/a temper.)

And the jab about Tomys height again shows the potential for a good relationship. They could have that joking relationship Tomys wants at some point, he’s just jumping the gun a bit and missing several layers of context to get Why Wilbur will not be that friends or informal with him (yet). (It’s Ranboo’s presence and the knowledge that this can and will get back to his father and Phil might be anger about it.)

It’s also interesting to see Wilbur bounce between formal and etiquette and his actual feelings or losing his temper around Tomys, it’s like he can’t quite stop his true nature form shining through, in a way Tomys brings out the childishness Wilbur never really got to have, but then he can’t fully sink into it because he still has a goal/mission to achieve and even when no one else is there, other people’s expectations of him are still holding him back form every full relaxing.

Side note: all the servants dipping their heads at Wilbur as he walks past, clearly aware of his status and giving him the respect while Wilbur himself barely notices because he’s too caught up in his own head, you could summarise his entire chapter with this once interaction + maybe the following one with Phil (though the first interaction in chapter 1 also says a LOT).

[Like the night before, the guard barely spared him a second glance before letting him inside.] This could be taken 2 ways. 1. What’s actually happing, aka the guards can all easily recognise Wilbur and let him in without second thought because he’s the Consuls son and of course he’s allowed inside. 2. Aka how Wilbur might take it, they barely look at him and he’s barely worth their attention.

exactly there IS potential there!! even though tommy doesn't understand what's going on, he does read between the lines. being kept ignorant of the reality of your situation doesn't make you an idiot, it just means you need someone to tell you what's going on.

I love rose!wilbur because he tries so hard to be as smart and controlled as his father is but he's a petty little shit with an easy to stoke temper. little does he know his dad used to be the same way when he was wilbur's age. had to get it from somewhere after all.

yeah again they could definitely have a great friendship. the two of them are very similar in a lot of ways. but there's a lot of context that's keeping wilbur from letting himself get too familiar with tommy and playing into his sense of humor. the problem is, like you said, being around tommy brings out the childishness wilbur never got to fully embrace when he was tommy's age. ironically, if he did give into that childish urge to insult tommy, it would probably make tommy like him more.

god yeah he's so caught up in his own head and doesn't even realize that, yeah dumbass, the servants and guards DO know who you are and respect you

how differently would the prison break and subsequent events have gone if Dream was, like, beaten to the point where he can barely move when Techno reached his cell. Obviously the main thing would be he’d be more of a liability and wouldn’t be able to help Techno with fighting the guards, but do you think they would’ve made it out? If Techno + crew did manage to get out of the prison, would it change how everybody on the other side reacted? Sorry if this is a long hypothetical!

If Dream is injured badly but functional enough to hobble out under his own power, I think the prison break would basically be how it is in the it would cost a leg AU. That is, getting out is tricky but the chaos (plus Bad and Punz sabotaging, plus Techno being well-prepared) means they muddle through alright.

If Dream is injured to the point where he’d literally need to be carried—well, that’s not an option. Techno is going to need to heal him to point where he can walk or there will be problems. If gapples or enchanted apples can take care of this, great, all set. If potions are needed, uh, Techno didn’t bring instant health. Maybe he could find some in the prison? Or if the alarm hasn’t been set off, he could retreat and grab some, then return. (Dream, antsy, wouldn’t love this.)

But there’s every possibility that Dream would insist that it’s fine, he can walk, (he HAS to), just break the damn wall already. Techno only realizes how bad Dream’s state is once the glass is shattered and the alarm is going—he has to decide what the hell he’s going to do. Getting Dream equipped and dragging him through the lava works okay, but the man’s helpless.

When Sam shows up, Techno’s playing defense. Not to mention he still needs to grab Ranboo too! He was really counting on Dream having his back. Sam knows what kind of state he left Dream in, and he doesn’t hesitate to take advantage. Techno’s still going to insist on getting to Ranboo, at least that’s gonna be one sword on his side. But if it takes too long, there’s a possibility he’d retreat to the tunnel with Dream to escort him out, get him to Phil, and then return for Ranboo.

He might be able to manage it. But it’s damn possible that the escape fails. It’s damn possible that, with Dream to babysit, Techno is killed and Dream is forced to surrender or be killed too.

This is very, very, very bad for Dream.

His most powerful ally is dead (and good fucking luck trying to revive him—unless he manages to pull it off immediately, there’s no way Sam will let him have books or the body or the ghost once back in prison). He’s just announced to Quackity very loudly and publicly that Sam lied, he’s alive. He’s showed his hand: Sam is going to realize he got blueprints to Techno, he’s going to find the weak point. He’s going to interrogate Dream until Dream tells him exactly how the escape plan was meant to work. This might even include questions about Ranboo (or even Bad), depending on how much Dream lets slip under pressure. The cell will need to be changed: maybe reinforced, maybe made even smaller. Maybe the glass and stone wall will be replaced with an obsidian wall that can’t be detonated, with a one-block opening that Sam can pearl through when he needs to question Dream.

And Dream’s just been extremely disobedient. He’s demonstrated that he’s far from cowed. Dream needs to be punished. If Sam’s been beating him before, well. His cruelty and paranoia is about to get much worse. If Quackity wants back in, Sam will oblige him. Sam still wants him alive, but other than that, he’s fair game.

One glimmer of hope on the horizon is that Phil will be Displeased about Techno’s death, and knows that Dream has the revive book…
