on kalim's first card, it's really cute but it also feels just like his usual demeanor where he treats everyone as a friend.

but on to the second card, it looks like he's definitely feeling more strongly enough about you to think "hey let me get you something too!! let me be your genie of the lamp!" at least right before realizing it would be more meaningful to give you a surprise gift as well like you did.

his "dear friend" on the second card is more real this time.

the closest ones (that are available) to doing something similar is jade who goes from "my good friend" -> "my dearest" and vil who goes from "dearest friend" to "my dear"

anyways, the third card is kalim finally wanting to go ALL OUT as a way to show you how he feels about you and how thankful he is. he's literally all about having fun with the person he cares about. making every moment memorable.

kalim's love language is also very much extravagant gifts since he's raised in a wealthy family where everything has been handed to him. that's probably how he got the mindset that gifts are the way to show love and affection because that's how his family did it for him. so the bigger the gift the better he can show you how he feels.

on the first card, he was suspicious of receiving a gift. at first he's like "are you just giving me something so i could give you something as well?" until he realized "oh this is legit" and that you’re not expecting anything back. and then he just enjoys it which is hella cute.

on the second card (unlike the last one) he's now like "let me get you something in return because i really appreciate the gesture". here i think he's still genuinely confused that you still decided to give him a gift. but at this point it feels like he's only offering to get you something in return because he feels like he has to just to show his gratitude. kinda like a fair transaction.

it seems that jamil is still like "why me". like, you cared enough to see and acknowledge him to even consider getting him a gift. which i believe is something he's not used to. so he just wants to "return the favor" by offering you to go find something you like :)

i know for other people "friend" is not on the same level as the romantic "love" but i personally feel as strong with platonic relationships as with romantic ones (if not more) and this hit me HARD.

for the third one he's finally comfortable enough to consider you a friend. but he still sounds flabbergasted that you still even thought of him (and **you** specifically) (like he didn't imagine that you'd even give him a gift).

and now this is less of a transaction but more of like he *wants* to make sure that he gets you something that you'd really like. it's not simply just "hey let's go to the school store and see what's available as a thanks", this time it's "hey i really appreciate that you got me something so let's discuss what i can get you as well. i'll be your genie of the lamp, anything is possible (within reason)"

it's from a book called Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy!

i've kind of bastardized the quote by putting the comma there, because it should be "however fondly it ended"

but this is the full quote here:

I've been playing terraria for all of about 5 days after my friend gifted it to me and I decided to check the tags and found your art/blog and I'm hooked. makes me want to create my own oc but I don't think I have the ideas/understanding of the games lore lol

Heheee!! Tbh i was on the same boat when I started making my oc. I was just: uuuuh Crimson is red, i like red, i like flesh eldritch horror things, I will make a Little Guy with antlers bc that's the vanity i'm wearing in game. And the thing is Terraria lore is surprisingly loose and the few tidbits of lore the game has are easy to find in the Wiki. I'd say a couple trips through the wiki reading the trivia n lore parts of it are enough to get an understanding of it (and inspiration!) + Terraria lore was an afterthought by the devs anyways, so it's not a big deal or deep at all and it leaves a lot of room for imagination n creativity

it’s like every day i flipflop back and forth between “katsuki should say ‘eijirou’ as many times as he can all the time. ‘eijirou come look at this’ ‘jesus christ eijirou it’s 7 a.m.’ ‘eijirou, steak or fish tonight’” and “i need krbk to call each other baby or else i’ll die” 

#idk if it's obvious from the every piece of content i've made in the last 6 months but i've like been stuck on this one #and not to like accidentally peek a little deep into my psyche but it might be bc for the brief time i had a gf last year #we dove like REALLY hard and heavy into the pet names #i did not enjoy being in a relationship with her (largely bc it was so affectionate so fast) but. i did like the affection #and honestly thinking back on the times where we did call each other 'baby' specifically it felt like so much bigger than 'babe' #which is probably why it sounds so gross to some people but the more time goes by and the more i think abt what an actual good #relationship would look like to me. the more i feel like being able to say 'baby' and not have it be cringe would be a factor #which is why i've been so stuck on making things that make krbk say baby. as stupid as it is #i really do love bkg saying eijirou and think that's the more in character option anyway #sometimes your krbk has just gotta be a little self indulgent though you know? #and other times it can be realistic and so so good #if this fic i started last month ever does see the light of day....and it might bc i do like the premise #it'll maybe be the most realistic take on bkg as a part of krbk that i've ever written #not to keep rambling but also thinking back on the way i've written bkg over the years i really do think his character lends itself to #a lot of levels of realistic vs indulgent #weird wording but i'll explain #in canon he's so analytical and thoughtful at heart you know? but he's also 16 and brash and impulsive and plain dumb sometimes #once again thinking about how i didn't actually like him that much on my first watch until the latter half of s2 #where his characterization starts to become a little more day-to-day instead of really heavy digging into HIS psyche #so he just shows up over and over again to get mad about something stupid and it's endearing #like 'who is this guy' #so you can write a bkg who's very out of his element and hotheaded and thinks of himself differently than he actually comes off #or you could write a bkg (like the bkg as of late) who's very in control and calculating and doesn't let his guard down #neither side is technically inaccurate but it can be hard to strike a balance bc those things sound very out of sync with each other #so within krbk you can write a very 'actions speak louder than words' bkg who is kinda neutral-cold most of the time #or you can write the goofier 'i won at romance and i'm gonna rub it in your faces' easily swept off his feet fandom favorite bkg #which can be very good #and if anything the fact that he really does keep his guard so high up so often makes you WANT to write him being sappy #especially when he's grown up #have i ever mentioned that like the stock photo of krbk in my mind has aged up?

okay violence aside, chiyo likes height differences bc if someone's tall, then her head is at the perfect placement to listen to their heartbeat whenever she hugs them. she doesn't tell people she likes that, but it's pretty calming to her :' ) tbh if she's upset ( at you? at herself? at the world? take your pick ), just hug her and make sure her ear is pressed against your chest and she calms right down
