Bollywood Movies Part CCVIII
Inspector Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) investigates the murder of the influential Raghubeer Singh (Khalid Tyabji) on his wedding night to his young second wife Radha (Radhika Apte). As Jatil investigates, he learns more about Raghubeer’s proclivities and about family secrets long left undisturbed, including the truth about the death of Jatil’s first wife (Natasha Rastogi).
CW for movie: human trafficking, rape, sexual abuse of a minor, some gore. Raat Akeli Hai is a good whodunnit that gives us a satisfying ending, while also being a love story. I enjoyed Jatil and Radha’s interactions, but I loved the performances of Shivani Raghuvanshi and Padmavati Rao as the combative Vasudha (Raghubeer’s niece) and the reprehensible Pramila Singh (Raghubeer’s sister-in-law) respectively. Ila Arun was also good as Jatil’s mother who wants him to get married. Favorite song is Ghoom Charkhya (no subtitles).
Kaajal (Bhumi Pednekar) moves out from her cousin Dolly’s (Konkona Sen Sharma) place when Dolly’s husband Amit (Aamir Bashir) makes a move on her and leaves her hated factory job. To make ends meet, she starts working at an adult call center as Kitty and begins an affair with “Pradeep” (Vikrat Massey), one of her callers. Meanwhile, Dolly deals with trying to make ends meet for her and Amit’s new luxury apartment that under construction and with the backlash against her son Pappu (Kalp Shah) liking girly things.
CW: corporal punishment. Dolly Kitty aur woh Chamakte Sitare is a good film about two cousins and their lives. It does a good job talking about women experiencing sex and desire without punishing them for it. It also doesn’t shy away from showing the realities of the society they live in, but doesn’t make those realities disheartening. A great example of this is the call center and how all the women there support each other. Favorite songs are Neet Ve and Khwabida (audio only). Neither song has subtitles.
Akash (Aditya Roy Kapur) goes to local crime lord Sattu Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) to help take down a sex video made of him and his ex-girlfriend Shruti (Sanya Malhotra) without their knowledge. Meanwhile, Aalu (Rajkummar Rao) tries to help the woman he loves, Pinky (Fatima Sana Shaikh), when she comes to him to help get her husband out of jail for being prime suspect in a murder Sattu Bhaiya committed. After being released from prison, Bittu (Abhishek Bachchan), Sattu Bhaiya’s former second in command, meets Mini (Inayat Verma) who has run away from home and agrees with her plan to pretend to kidnap her to get her parents’ attention. Rahul (Rohit Saraf), after being taken by Sattu Bhaiya for being near the murder, manages to get Sattu Bhaiya’s money with the help of nurse Sheeja (Pearle Maaney), but Sattu Bhaiya sends his goons after them to get his money back.
Ludo is an entertaining dark comedy that is structurally based on the board game ludo (more recognizable to Americans as Parcheesi). It was quite entertaining and funny, while also being heartwarming. I loved Bittu and Mini’s story because of how cute it was, especially when Mini prompts Bittu on how to make ransom calls to her parents. Overall, a fun romp. Favorite songs are Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram (originally from Albela), Aarbaad Barbaad, and Meri Tum Ho. None of the songs have subtitles.

WPL Final: In-form DC look to win maiden WPL title after falling short last year
In-form Delhi Capitals, led by the inspirational Meg Lanning, would hope to be second time lucky and lift their maiden Women's Premier League title when they take on a plucky Royal Challengers Bangalore in the summit clash here on Sunday.
After missing out on the title in WPL's inaugural edition last year, losing by seven wickets to Mumbai Indians in the final, DC looked a rejuvenated side this year.
DC have been in superb form this year, topping the five-team league standings with 12 points from eight matches.
Lanning has led DC from the front, scoring 308 runs from eight innings, while South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and Australian left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen are the highest wicket-takers for the side with 11 scalps each.
DC's only two defeats this season came against Mumbai Indians UP Warriorz. Leaving aside those two matches, they have enjoyed a near-perfect campaign.
Going into the final, they will definitely start as favourites, having never lost to RCB in four meetings.
But having said that, past results will hardly have any significance in the final. It will be a new day and the the side which can withstand pressure and expectations will lift the title.
DC will expect the explosive Shafali Verma to provide them with a quick start alongside Lanning.
Jemimah Rodrigues has been in fine nick in the middle, but Lanning would expect more contributions from the likes of all-rounders Alice Capsey and Kapp.
On the bowling front, Jonassen has been the star performer but the likes of Kapp and Shikha Pandey too have contributed.
Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav has also been effective with 10 wickets and the home team will definitely depend a lot on its spinners in a relatively slow Kotla pitch.
RCB, on the other hand, finished third in the league phase after an inconsistent run that yielded eight points from as many games but they clicked when it mattered, knocking out defending champions MI by five runs in the eliminator here on Friday.
All-rounder Ellyse Perry will be key to RCB's success on Sunday as besides being the highest run-getter with 312 runs, the Australian has been impressive with the ball, scalping seven wickets.
If not for Perry's all-round show against MI on Friday, the result could have been different. She first played a vital 50-ball 66-run knock and then returned with figures of 1/29 to play a key role in RCB's journey to the final.
But Perry would look for more support from the likes of skipper Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, Richa Ghosh and Sophie Molineux with the bat.
However if RCB were to stop DC, they would need efforts from their bowlers, especially the likes of Renuka Singh, Shreyanka Patil, Georgia Wareham etc.
All in all it promises to be a cracker of a contest with the balance slightly tilted towards hosts DC.

The WPL 2023 made a big difference in women’s cricket’s standing around the world.
A thrilling exhibition of skill, perseverance, and sportsmanship brought together some of the best players in women’s cricket was the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. aficionados and aficionados were enthralled by the five-team tournament’s thrilling matches, unexpected upsets, and spectacular individual performances. A global cricket fan base was captivated by the intense competition between the teams, which included both established international players and up-and-coming prospects, as they battled for the coveted trophy.
Women’s cricket entered a new era, aided by the WPL 2023.
Mumbai Indians, the first champions
Throughout the competition, a few teams were particularly noteworthy for their outstanding performances. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians’ well-rounded team and tactical play demonstrated their supremacy. They were able to secure the first title because to their consistency in both the bowling and hitting departments.
Under the leadership of India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets in the inaugural WPL final, which was held at the Brabourne Stadium.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, DC, captained by Australian captain Meg Lanning, had a tough task ahead of them because to England’s Issy Wong’s fast bowling with a right arm. The brilliant Delhi Capitals batting lineup faltered and quickly collapsed to 79/9.
Meg Lanning, the captain of DC, led the team in scoring with 35 runs, while the other batters were easily defeated. With 27 runs apiece, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav put on a show of defiance, helping DC reach 131/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
Issy Wong of the Mumbai Indians recorded statistics of 3/42, and their West Indies recruit, Hayley Matthews, bowled her four overs, giving up only five runs and taking three wickets.
In response, the Mumbai Indians secured victory in the last over, propelled by England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt’s undefeated performance of 55 balls and 60 runs. The first WPL title was won by the Mumbai Indians thanks to this outstanding effort.
MI finished only behind DC, the league leaders, on net run rate, but nonetheless managed to secure second place in the WPL 2023 points standings. DC put on a strong showing in eight games, taking home two losses and winning six to total 12 points at a run rate of +1.856. MI, on the other hand, also scored 12 points, but their slightly lower run rate of +1.711 allowed them to take second place.
DC advanced straight to the final as the table leaders, while MI had to beat UP Warriorz’s challenge in the Eliminator to get to the championship match. With eight points, the UP Warriorz under Alyssa Healy’s leadership placed third in the standings and advanced to the postseason.
With four points, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), led by Indian batsman Smriti Mandhana, took fourth place among the other teams. In their eight games, RCB won just two and lost six, making it a challenging season. Before they won the competition for the first time, they went through a five-game losing streak.
The Gujarat Giants, who finished with four points at the bottom of the table, had a dismal first season under the direction of Australian Beth Mooney. With only two victories in eight games, the Gujarat team’s season didn’t conclude as they would have liked.

She eloquently pointed out that women do not need empowerment as they are already empowered. Instead, they need encouragement and support to create their own paths and shape their destinies.
The awards were presented to one hundred remarkable women from various backgrounds, including business, different professions like art, culture, fashion, law, media, cinema, management, administration, poetry, writing, science, research, event management, education, and social work. Each awardee’s name is a testament to their individual accomplishments and dedication to society.
