Given the old Michael Richards treatment. The N-word is an awful word and no one should ever used it, I wish as a society we could agree on that. Madonna, Wahlberg and Biden all get a pass for racial slurs, heck even Obama admitted to using homophobic language and was still elected president. The ends will always justify the means with democrats and your political party affiliation and the way you vote is the most important aspect of your identify in their eyes.

In this article Bob Lamey & Derek Daly are guilty until proven innocent. One employee steps forward and says Lamey used a racial slur while telling a story and Lamey was saying he quoted someone and then they are both canceled. Joe Biden used the N-Word several times in congress and it was broadcasted live on c-span.

Not long after longtime Colts radio announcer Bob Lamey abruptly retired on Sunday, news emerged that he had recently upset a black radio station employee by using the n-word while relaying a story he’d heard many years previously from another man at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

On Thursday, Daly denied being the source for Lamey’s usage of the racial slur — but also admitted to having used the word many years ago in a similar setting, in what he claimed was a misunderstanding attributable to his upbringing in Ireland. “I want everyone to know I deeply regret and sincerely apologize for what I said more than three decades ago,” Daly said in a statement.

The employee clarified that, in Lamey’s telling of the story, he didn’t say “blank” but rather the n-word. “He was like, ‘Oh I’m so so sorry. I’m so sorry if you’re offended by this. I didn’t mean to offend anyone,’ and I was like, ‘I’m black and I wouldn’t ever say that word,’ and sort of just told him how it hurt me and how I don’t think he should say it ever, even if he’s telling a story,” the employee said.

The Star published comments in support of Daly from Willy T. Ribbs, who was the first African American to compete in the Indy 500 and who previously had raced in a Formula series in England. Ribbs said that while overseas, Daly “was the first driver to befriend me in a[n] environment I knew little about,” and he described the Irishman, who now lives in Indiana, as “one of my closest friends in a sport that has been very hostile to me.”

Dog breed names

Dog breed names are very arbitrary. The Great Dane is really from Germany, the Australian Shepherd is from America, the Labrador Retriever is not from Labrador... and so on. Dog breed names also change over time (A German Shepherd Dog used to be called an “Alsatian”), and they are different depending on which country or kennel club you listen to. Dog breed names tell us more about people than about the dogs themselves.

It has come to my attention that some dog breed names are racial slurs. Some words we take for granted are derogatory labels given by colonizers to groups or nations of people they colonized. These are culturally insensitive, triggering words. They may have no effect on me personally but that is not the point.

Dog trainer Grisha Stewart (via this facebook post ):

Here’s the thing about culturally (in)sensitive terms: the person or group being harmed by it is the only one who knows if it’s triggering, if it feels hurtful or not. To do otherwise is gaslighting.

If we care about a person or group of people, we make whatever healthy choices we can to avoid hurting them, and only they can tell us what hurts.

For example, say you have a girlfriend and you call her honeybear. That triggers her PTSD because kids at school beat her up with a honey bear (bear-shaped bottle filled with honey) and it became her nickname. So she asks you not to call her that. It doesn’t make her feel loved, quite the opposite.

It’s not your intention to hurt her. It’s not your fault that it happened. You’re not a bad person, you just didn’t know. But once you know that it feels painful to hear that name, it would be unkind and counterproductive to keep using it.

Here are dog breed names that are culturally-insensitive:

AMERICAN ESKIMO*

Non-racist alternatives: American Spitz, White German Spitz

People in many parts of the Arctic consider Eskimo a derogatory term because it was widely used by racist, non-native colonizers. (source)

CANADIAN ESKIMO*

Non-racist alternative: Inuit Qimmiq

The word qimmiq is being used because it’s the language of the people that developed the dog in the first place. And understanding that the Inuit have always referred to the dog as qimmiq, it came fairly easily in the discussion. (source)

SAMOYED*

Non-racist alternative: Nenet Laika

Samoyed means self-eater or cannibal in Russian....it is a word that applies to the Nenets in much the same way the n-word applies to African-Americans. (source)

Although I am not able to change the names that are on already-printed Dogs of the World posters, this is what I will keep in mind for the next print edition.

A local utility company in Washington says that it accidentally sent an African-American customer a racial slur as the temporary password for her online account. "I clicked 'forgot password' and got a temporary password from PSE and it was capital N---a and I was quite shocked," Erica Conway told KIRO 7 on Wednesday, referencing her reaction to an email from Puget Sound Energy (PSE) after she requested a new password for her account. Conway, who is a longtime volunteer of the Seattle chapter of the NAACP, said that she believes the slur was intentional. She also says that she complained to a customer service agent named Lydia at PSE's Bothell call center, but that the representative did not take her seriously. "I had said 'Do you guys screen out certain words?' and Lydia was, like, 'Yes, we do.' And I said, 'Well you guys didn't screen out this word' And she said, 'Why would we?' and I said, "What do you mean why would we? This is an offensive word.' Where you can be made to feel unwelcome & not British/American enough even if you were born there. Teachers treating you differently at school, #racism in the playground, college, university. The #discrimination when your "exotic" name on your CV doesn't even get you an interview. At interviews, being additionally judged by your hairstyle, appearance & if they think you look like trouble or not. At work, if you get 'aggressive' when an inappropriate #racial comment is made & don't just take it as a 'joke'. When passed over for promotion you're qualified to do, for a white person who needs training to start a job you could've begun straight away. Then we have all seen videos of when #raceattack starts on public transport & it isn't only words, we have seen people being physically attacked while the #racialslurs are vomited out. Will security let you in on a night out? Will you be able to hail down a taxi home? Interactions with the police. Having to teach black children how the world can treat you because of your #skincolour = These are examples from my limited white viewpoint of the situation, there's so much more to it - but you would need a massage wouldn't you?
