Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
I’ve really dropped the ball on keeping up with my Tumblr, so I figured I needed to update with my recent completed additions to my cabinet. More on the way in due time…
some skull studies i’ve been working on recently! posted a little more in-depth about these on my patreon, but i’ve been having fun trying to work a bit more from life. not my usual stuff i know, but i’ve really been enjoying it :^)
Finally got around to degreasing and whitening this incredible pathological raccoon skull I bought a while back.
Poor critter suffered from some extremely gnarly damage to one eye socket and the top of the skull. Whatever caused the injury pretty much obliterated that eye socket though the bone did heal and reform. One of the molars was even pushed out of place. Definitely the most deformed raccoon skull I’ve ever worked on.
Sadly it was boiled before I got it so the bone is a bit fragile in some areas but I’m pretty happy with how it cleaned up in the end. Here’s what it looked like before:
Top right are two American badgers, one with double canines, and one with baby teeth. Below them, a river otter, an adolescent ferret, and a baby mink.
On the right, top is a baby raccoon, then a juvenile mongoose, and finally a baby striped skunk! Not mustelids, but cousins, ish.
This was a commissioned skull centerpiece for a close friend of mine. The skull is from a raccoon that died of natural causes, and the mushrooms are hand sculped and painted. The mushrooms are loosely inspired by ink cap mushrooms.
