Organizing the Broom Closet (An Introduction)

If you've found your way to my blog, welcome! This is my first post, and I'm just doing a bit of organizing and labeling so that everything is tidy for the journey ahead. Let me start by saying I am a genderfluid, gay witch. I've been dabbling with my practice for roughly a decade, but am finally trying to get more serious. I have an online and physical grimoire that are in their early phases of organization.

I'm a wayward soul, so I have always been a solitary practitioner. Lately, I have been meeting more witches and spiritual people in person... But because of my wayward nature, I'll be here for a moment and pulled away by the breeze the next. So I am hoping to find community in other ways that will help me to grow and learn more about the mystical paths of life. The subjects and practices I am most interested in exploring include:

I don't identify as Wicca and don't ascribe to any particular religion. Zero judgment if you do. I always do my best to respect closed practices and welcome feedback if I ever stray down a path not meant for me. We're all human, after all, and are bound to make mistakes.

That being said... I am also an anarchist. Not in the modern, burn it all down manner (though there are days where that comes out of me...) But in more of a dismantling of centralized government kind of way. I long for a society that is fueled by communal nurturing and ownership. Where we are all equitable in society and have access to basic necessities.

Amour et Jenga

Tout à l’heure m’est apparue une métaphore qui m’a fait réfléchir... Je me disais qu’elle pourrait possiblement invoquer quelconques reflets dans le miroir de tes pensées. Je songeais à l’idéalisme qui donne cette couleur si particulière à ma vision de l’amour... Pour une raison ou une autre, j’en suis venu à l’image d’une partie de Jenga avec comme adversaire ce germe de moi-rêveur qui souvent est indiscernable du reste de la plante. Une partie de Jenga en laquelle chaque morceau de bois ne serait en fait que des bribes de rêvasseries, d’imaginaires romantiqu’utopiques et de mensonges bienfaisants à mon propre égard. À chaque rêvasserie de bon cœur, un bloc de plus. À chaque idée vaporeuse de l’idéal amoureux, une assise de plus à cette tour qui peu à peu s’érige avec brio.

Puis viennent les mensonges. Ces mensonges si particuliers qui me dupent tout en prenant souche au plus profond de moi-même. Je suis habile à me berner. Ce germe de moi dont je parlais tout à l’heure… Il réussit sans cesse à me convaincre qu’une chose est valeureuse au respect de mon idéal alors qu’au bout du compte et sans que je ne le sache, cet idéal ne me respecte pas « moi », ne se respecte même pas lui-même! À chaque obstacle, à chaque doute vis-à-vis d’une liaison, je trouve moyen de fabriquer la réalité pour qu’elle me demeure tangible, belle et vraie.

Et c’est là que la partie de Jenga commence réellement. À tout instant, je peux prendre une rêvasserie ou un idéal provenant de la base pour la poser sur un sommet qui devient certes de plus en plus haut, mais aussi de plus en plus chancelant. Et bien sûr, en bon idéaliste, j’aime les grandes choses, et dieu sait qu’il n’y a rien de plus grandiose et d’exaltant qu’une tour de Jenga vertigineuse, une tour qui nous berce de son vacillement, une tour dont l’oscillation hypnotise tel un pendule. Une tour si belle qu’enfin elle me fait croire en —BAM!!! — … le fracas de l’effondrement.

Mais tu sais ce qu’il y a de fascinant quand on joue contre soi-même? C’est qu’à tout les coups on a 100% des chances de gagner, mais aussi 100% des chances de perdre... L’angoisse. Mais aussi peut-être un peu de soulagement?

The analysis of characters' names in Stay

First of all I want to apologize for any mistakes and potential misinterpretations. My English is poor, I'm obviously not a writer, so don't take it seriously. Just a bunch of thoughts that I finally got the courage to share. Feel free to share yours too!

Henry Letham

Some of you're probably aware that Letham is an anagram of the word 'Hamlet' which is referred to numerous times throughout the film.

I can assume that his last name also has something to do with the Latin word lētum (sometimes written lēthum) that translates to 'death', 'ruin,' destruction' in English.

Sam Foster

to foster — to look after or to take care of (a child or a young person). Throughout the movie, Sam fussed over Henry like a mother hen with one chick, so there is no denying that he was some kind of father-figure to Henry in his dreamworld. In the script, Smitty even mistook Sam for Henry's father once.

Lila Culpepper

This one might be very far-fetched, but Lila's last name reminded me of the Latin word culpa, which can be translated as 'blame', 'fault' or 'guilt'.

Athena

I'm convinced that her name refers to the Greek goddess of wisdom, war and arts/crafts. Athena got a few minutes of screen time, but she struck me as very ambitious, powerful and intelligent young woman. And she's good in different forms of art, therefore I guess Athena is a perfect name for a girlboss like her.

Tristan Rêveur

The name Tristan comes from the French word triste meaning 'sad', 'sorrowful'; 'melancholy'. Rêveur can be translated from French as 'dreamy' or 'dreamer'.

Technically Tristan Rêveur is a sad dreamer, which I find quite interesting.
