Idk if this is a hot take but as a neurodivergent person, I hate it when people say they're "reclaiming the r-slur" and then they just use it to call other people r*t*rded as an insult (sometimes even other neurodivergent people.)

You're not reclaiming it at that point - you're still using it as a slur and just using your neurodivergence as a shield.

(And for the record, neurodivergent people are still capable of being ableist.)

I was just searching up stuff about SMG4 and in the past, SMG4 used the r slur alot and yet I can't find much on people talking about it (most have been deleted)

There was even SMG4 videos named as (R slur)64.

Is there a reason why they are still up? Has the creators said anything about their past uses of the slur? Have the creators apologised?

a tumblr user rightfully calls out ableist language yet in the same breath calls a bigot “a stu pid idi ot”, claiming them to be “less intelligent than all mentally disabled people ever”.

nevermind the fact that anyone of any level of intelligence can be bigoted.

describing their ableist characters as “psy co” for being a bad person. and then claiming not to be ableist themselves.

genuinely makes me sad, ACTUALLY FUCKING CRYING, seeing disabilites get disregarded and indirectly insulted in spaces THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO INCLUDE THEM for the sake of insulting bad people.

people need to learn from their mistakes.

There's a difference between having the option of a professional diagnosis and the choice of not taking it, and never having an option and never given a choice to begin with regardless.

Yes, there are many down sides to having a diagnosis on paper. And it's valid that many early diagnosed autistic people wish they weren't professionally diagnosed in childhood, or that at least they had a say in the matter.

But had my mother known and understood that I was an autistic child, how much and how many years of abuse could it have spared me; of getting beaten for "disobedience", of being starved for days at a time for not wanting to eat certain foods because of the textures, of screaming in my face and calling me a stupid retard for being "slow", of forcing me to wear the clothes she wanted me to even though they were uncomfortable to the point of painful, of forcing me to socialize and accusing me of being rude for being shy and introverted, of having my interests and hobbies mocked and ridiculed.

Since the r-slur is making a comeback (you know, the word that starts with R, has six letters, and ends in D), I'm gonna make a little PSA:

Yes, it's an ableist slur.

Terms like "asshat," "head-up-ass," "up their own ass," and "high on their own farts" exist. There's also words like crap, dogshit, half-assed, assclown, and chucklefuck. And on the less vulgar side, there are terms like ridiculous, nonsense, train wreck, pointless, insipid, self-absorbed, pretentious, annoying, boring, contemptible, vile, and disgusting.

Substituting words like restarted, poptarted, brain damaged, smoothbrain, etc. is still ableist, because either 1. you obviously still mean the r-word, or 2. you're still using disability as an insult.
