Things about the wolves I'm keeping vs things I'm changing.

Keeping

Growth spurt/height

Elevated body temperature

Enhanced level abilities in human form/supernatural level abilities in wolf form

Telepathic link*

Changing

They don't loose their clothes during phasing. They don't know what happens to their clothes. It's magic.

They don't block Alice's visions. Sense Alice's sees the future based on decisions made in the present then it shouldn't matter who made the decision.

Imprinting. Not a thing. Wolf-shifters fall in love like anybody else, but they do love hard.

*They do have a mind link, but they are able to turn it on and off.

They don't have natural enemies. Any supernatural creatures that threaten them or the community are their enemies.

The Quileute wolf pack.

Sam Uley and Emily Young

Sam was the first to phase in 2004, following the Cullens return to Forks in 2003. The first time he freaked out, ran away and hid in the woods. It was days before Sam was able to phase back to his human self. He returned home to find a very worried Emily. His girlfriend of many years, Emily is part Quileute and part Makah. She'd been visiting from Neah Bay when Sam had gone missing. After Sam's sudden return he didn't talk about where he'd been. Not until Old Quil spoke to Sam about what had happened and what it means. Sam later told Emily everything and she accepted him and the supernatural world wholeheartedly.

Jared Cameron and Paula Lahote

Jared was the second to phase quickly followed by Paula. They first phased in January of 2005. Their adjustment was much easier because they had Sam to help them.

Embry Call, Julie Black and Quil Ateara

Embry phased in mid-January followed by Julie in February. On March 5th, the pack met Bella Swan. A vampire-human hybrid who was visiting First Beach with classmates from Forks High School. Quil Ateara phased later in March.

The pack knows they're not werewolves. They call themselves wolf-shifters because of their ability to shape-shift into only wolves. The purpose of the pack are to be be protectors and guardians. They defend against supernatural threats. When something supernatural is in the area, the wolf gene is activated. Though they can transform into beasts, they are humans first and foremost. They're capable of rationality and don't allow animal instinct to rule them. Which is why they can tell when a vampire is actually a threat or when it's not.

Their phasing is triggered by the desire to protect. After the shock of the first shift fades, and they return to human form, phasing is a simple thing to master. Because of that Jared, Paula, Embry, Julie and Quil are all able to stay in school.

The Quileute Pack

Members (2004 - 2005): Sam Uley, Jared Cameron, Paula Lahote, Embry Call, Julie Black, and Quil Ateara.

They're called wolf-shifters. As they are shape-shifters that only change into wolves. They know they aren't real werewolves.

Phasing is not based in anger, but in the desire to protect. To defend themselves, each other, their loved ones, and their community.

It's not just vampires that trigger the change. Werewolves trigger it, too. Either must have been in the vicinity for an extended period of time, before the change occurs.

Hair length has no affect on fur length.

Clothes phase with the wolf. No one knows how it works, it's been a mystery for generations of packs. They just roll with it.

Imprinting? Not a thing. Never heard of it.

They have longevity. They will age, but they will live for a very, very long time. And even in old age they will be physically and mentally healthy.

Alice can see the wolves, if she's intentionally looking. (Alice's power is based in decision making not in species.)

They have telepathy in wolf form. Able to communicate mentally, but only when they want or need to.

The Wolf Pack

The members are Quileute wolf-shifters living in La Push, Washington. They protect the Quileute reservation as well as Forks, Washington. In January of 2003, a family of vampires (the Cullens: Carlisle, Earnest, Edythe, Rosalie Emmett, Alice and Jessamine) moved to Forks. Their proximity caused the Quileute wolves to phase. Sam was the first to phase in June of 2004, almost a year and half since the Cullens came to town. At first, he struggled with the change. He kept it secret from the people in his life. Such as his mother, Allison Uley, and girlfriend, Emily Young. Sam didn't know what was happening to him until Old Quil visited and recognized the signs of a wolf-shifter who had already phased. Later, Sam was invited to a council meeting with Old Quil, Billy Black, and Harry Clearwater. They explained that Quileute legends were true and that he was a wolf-shifter. They helped him understand that it was a wolf's instinct to protect and that the wolf gene kicks in when vampires are in the vicinity.

Jared phased next in early January of 2005. Sam helped him with the change and the two became best friends. Paula was the third to phase. Then Embry by mid January. In mid February, Julie phased and joined the pack. On March 5th, Sam, Julie and Embry met Bella Swan. A vampire hybrid who had been on a beach trip with some students from Forks High School. Bella befriended the wolves. On March 18th, Bella was kidnapped from her home by Victoria. The Cullens asked for the wolves help in finding Bella. By that time, Quil had phased and joined the pack.

Bonus:

Emily is Sam's long time, long-distance girlfriend. She's an honorary pack member. She moved from Neah Bay to Forks sometime after Sam had phased for the first time. Emily noticed that Sam was being aloof and secretive, so she followed him one night and saw him phase. The next day, Emily confronted Sam about what she saw and demanded to know what was happening. Seeing no way around it, Sam told Emily the truth about everything. Later, when the pack grew, Emily's home became their usual hangout.
