I'm sorry to bring up another Jurassic Park comparison but I remembered this scene from the third movie and couldn't help but feel it would very much be something Man-Bat would pull.

What are the other two animals?? And yeah Queztalcoatlus does have a weirdly giant head for something that was capable of flight.
The other two animals are the Giant Short Faced Bear, and ticks.
Short faced bears may have prevented early humans from migrating to North America by eating them. It was a predator that was all too happy to feed on people and I have a deep mitochondrial fear of the damn thing.
I'm not necessarily glad it's extinct, but I am glad I never had to cope with it. Modern bears are scary enough.

I got very embarrassed the other day whilst watching the final episode of Prehistoric Planet with my dad, bc I saw the massive giraffe-sized pterosaur and shouted “Queztalcoatlus”, when, it was in fact a Hatzegopteryx...

Rodan
Also known as Radon, this is the largest flying reptilian Kaiju to come from nature. Capable of flying fast enough to demolish buildings with proximity and outfly “supersonic” jets. While I don’t personally think that a living creature of his size could outfly much of anything, he is a kaiju, and they tend to bend the laws of physics just slightly. This time we’re going to look into his origins, affirm and debunk his abilities, and confirm if this colossal flyer is a daikaiju, or a cooked goose.
Ancestry
While it’s unlikely we could determine the flight speed of prehistoric animals, we do have our trusty size change formula to weed out the gum flappers from our serious contenders. Don’t fly off just yet, I’m almost through with my puns. When I first tried to find Rodan’s ancestor, I looked to the largest flyers in the history. Starting with the famous Queztalcoatlus Northropi, or Queztalcoatlus, featured in Ark: Survival Evolved as the equivalent of a jumbo jet. I looked to the Queztal for its size, seeing as we need to match a wingspan of 160 meters, we’ve potentially got a lot of wiggle room. Running the numbers, a wingspan of 40 feet (12.2 meters), 72 million years old, we get 21.9 meters. Not as large as I was hoping, so I moved on to other winged dinosaurs. Next on the list, Aerotitan. Aerotitan has an average wingspan of 15 – 20 feet, an age of 75 million years, equaling 16 meters. So, we clearly need an older beasty, looking through my list I found two that topped out at 210 million years old, the first was 2 feet, the second was 1 meter. The first topped out at 25 meters, the second at 40. I hit gojipedia to check data on Rodan, and his species is listed as an irradiated pteranodon, maybe it’s as easy as that? Pteranodons had a wingspan of 18 feet, not promising, and they lived only 85 million years ago. By now you should be able to estimate that the pteranodon wasn’t big enough either, but after pouring over the thoughtco.com page, I found one that is close enough to be the ancestor of Rodan, its name is Tropeognathus. Tropeognathus had a wingspan of 29 feet (8.84 meters), and an age of 125 million years. For those who may have forgotten our magical equation, it reads as such:
(150 / 542) x * y = z
With our numbers plugged in we get:
(150 / 542) (125 – 65.5) 8.84= 145.6 meters
Granted 145 isn’t exactly on the mark, but it is close enough to it that number with no other challengers that I’m willing to call it. Some of you may be wondering if I considered the Pterodactyl, and I did try to find it, but we’ve been lied to, Pterodactyl is not a real dinosaur. I know! I was shocked too! But research that I conducted proved that the Pterodactyl was not a real dinosaur, just a name that was used to refer to all Pterosaurs. Pterodactylus, however, is a real dinosaur, and the inspiration for the Pterodactyl’s name.
 Appearance
Apart from his wings, beak, and talons, Rodan has spikes lining his chest, and while I can’t uncover a pterasaur that has that, it does make some sense as to why some variations of Rodan have this. When scooping up prey larger than his mouth, Rodan could use those spikes to protect himself from strikes while his prey is carried high into the air, potentially to be dropped, or to damage them more. Other than armor, I can’t think of a logical and plausible way they could be used.
 Abilities
Rodan has an atomic heat ray, where he, very obviously, spews atomic fire on his foes. How he does this is probably a lot similar to how Godzilla uses his Atomic Breath, using his horns to store and charge his atomic potential, firing it out of his mouth. Rodan also has an incredible durability, being able to withstand Godzilla’s atomic breath with mild annoyance. Rodan is also capable of flying at speeds high enough to be followed by a shockwave that destroys buildings. His wings have enough surface area to  use air as a weapon, flapping his wings so they send a shockwave, flying into their enemies. Rodan’s airspeed is difficult to determine, and I don’t have enough resources to determine that. But to be moving fast enough to create the kind of winds that knock buildings over, Rodan needs to be moving at excess of Mach 1, otherwise known as the speed of sound. Rodan moving at the speed of sound is incredible for a living thing, and would require almost insane amounts of energy. Thankfully with Rodan, there is a way for him to get that much energy, uranium. The uranium ore Rodans consume would allow them to harness enough energy to achieve speeds capable of destroying buildings. The other noteworthy ability Rodan has is the incredible strength of his limbs. His limbs are capable of supporting the weight of Godzilla and mothra in her larval stage. Not only is Rodan carrying both, but he achieves enough lift that he can ram Godzilla into King Ghidorah.
 Scientific Name
I went to the r/GODZILLA reddit to ask the community there to help me come up with a name for Rodan’s species, and after the great suggestion by user Moonlit-Comet, I’ve personally settled on Radonactylus as the species name. So I guess the full scientific name would be Tropeognathus Radonactylus. Rolls off the tongue, or I guess the keyboard, doesn’t it? The reason that Rodan’s species is named with Radon is because the kaiju himself is named Radon in the original Japanese, which corresponds to me referring to Godzilla’s species as Gojirasaurus. Again, special thanks to user u/Moonlit-Comet for the suggestion of Radonactylus. I think that about wraps up my theory on Rodan. As always please let me know if there’s something you think I can be doing better, and give this a like if you thought it wasn’t terrible. Thank you, and have a great day!
