HP Rec Fest: days 10-13

I neglected my reccing duties. This happens when you don't prep and queue all posts beforehand. Did I prep and queue the upcoming posts yet? Of course not. Onwards!

@hprecfest prompts: A fest fic, a dark fic, a WIP I'm following and a fic with >100k words. 2 Drarry and 2 Wolfstar recs.

Nature pricks them on to ramp and rage (21014 words) by @goblinmatriarch (Drarry, Explicit)

Lord Draco Malfoy may be a young man spending time in Dumbledore’s summer court, but that does not mean he needs to succumb to its licentious frivolity. He carries the burden of his lineage, the shadow of rumours, and the dignity of his betrothal to a good match. He is certainly not fool enough to be distracted by the dark curls and ready grin of the court’s stableboy, who seems to have taken up with every courtier who looks his way.

For the fest fic, I give you my favourite story from this year's @hp-bodiceripper fest. It made me laugh so much every time a bucket was mentioned. I need more stableboy!Harry fics in my life. Or to say it in Draco's words: "Surely, Draco had the self-control to be around a saucy drop-trou and his hypnotic bucket-related coquetry without succumbing." Spoiler: he did not.

Do not miss the embedded 12th century rimming debate. It is glorious.

Railway Lands (65012 words) by Maelipstick (Drarry, Explicit)

Draco finds his own way to cope with being a failed Death Eater at Voldemort's headquarters. Voldemort finds a way to destroy the wizarding world even after his death. Harry is trying to hold the world together while his mind quietly comes apart. Warnings for graphic drug use, depression and suicidal ideation, Draco being an arsehole, sex work, criminality, non-con sexual situations, shifting POVs, ofc werewolves, self neglect and self harm, general unprettiness, unplanned parenthood and references to other works of fiction.

This dark fic got its hooks in me during my last time in Drarry fandom. It's pretty unrelenting. I haven't re-read it in a long time but it's still rattling around my brain.

Gathering Home by Quietlemonhush (Wolfstar, 20/?, 74k, Explicit)

Remus flipped the light on and sucked in a breath as he looked over his classroom, as neat and tidy as he had left it the day before. The room exuded warmth, colorful and bright, playmats on the floor and books stacked up along the walls, little boxes of crayons on all of the tables. By the end of the day, ten kindergarteners would arrive to what was functionally their second home, to once again tear it to smithereeens. Eleven, Remus corrected himself—four months into the school year, a new student was joining their class.

Remus shouldn’t be attracted to Sirius Hill, not when Remus is responsible for teaching his five-year-old little brother to read and count, and especially not with that mysterious baby strapped to Sirius’s chest. He shouldn’t. He isn’t. He is not.

Really.

This canon-divergent, trans!Sirius raising Regulus und Harry fic is both a comfort fic and a story hurting my heart in the worst ways. Every single thing this little Reggie says hurts every one of my feelings, and Sirius is trying so damn hard to take care of his boys, and then there is Remus and his mother, who are both so bloody lovely I can't stand it.

This story began a long time ago. That part is already written. Nothing can be done about it now. It began with two young men—barely more than boys—who upended the world, magical and mundane alike. Grindelwald and Dumbledore, glorious leaders of the revolution, who brought wizardkind out of hiding and into the light during those last, violent days of 1899. But a winter's night seventy-seven years later is where things really kick off. Because Remus Lupin knows what to expect when you’ve been sold somewhere new. He knows it better than he ever thought he'd have to by this point. He knows how to survive. And Sirius Black is doing his best to just graduate Hogwarts and get himself and his brother away from this goddamn house. He's got it figured out by now. He has a plan. Neither of them, however, had accounted for the other messing everything up by the mere fact of just existing. (Or, the one where Sirius is heir to a pureblood first family and Remus is a half-blood servant, but a chance meeting leads to healing old wounds, stumbling into love, and just maybe accidentally kickstarting a revolution.)

For my second WIP and >100k fic, I picked this marvel of world building. I'm only at chapter 28 so I need to catch up before this WIP is no longer a WIP. The breadth of characters, backstory and universe creation is incredible. I often get bored with fics this long, but this one is so immersive and ernest in the best ways. You can tell the author wants to tell this story honestly and truly. It is a pure joy. You probably heard of this story already if you're into Wolfstar. It really is that good. Also, Pigoletta is recording the story as a podfic.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello, hello, my gorgeous constant readers! So, in exciting news that I'm very happy to share, the queue is at 47, set to post twice a day, and I am fully wrapped up all existing requests. With a bit of a cheat that I'm a little ashamed of - there existed two requests that I absolutely could not, despite spending almost a month trying to think up anything for them, come up with a single idea to write about. So, I admitted defeat, deleted them, and honestly am kind of happier not having them haunt me but I do sincerely apologize to whoever sent them in and won't get them answered.

Now onto the plans I have for writing!

I'm taking the next couple of weeks to focus on finishing up the writing I want to do. Before I fully reopen the ask box, and host another event (because you guys seem to really love them and they bring in a lot of asks to add to the queue), I'm going to be focusing on writing several more chapters of the Shouhei drabble collection and scheduling them to post. Honestly, I'd like to finish it completely and with it being the only thing I'm writing, I feel I can do that pretty quickly. I'm also going to be writing and posting at least the first three chapters over on The Ever Young. I also really want to add posts to the queue for all my fandoms, including all my new ones.

Pairing: Benjamin Tallmadge/Mary Floyd Tallmadge, & Benjamin Tallmadge and existential crisis (/hj).

Fandom: TURN: Washington's Spies.

Rating: T - Teen and up for non-graphic violence, the moral quandary of war, non-graphic disease, existentialism and canon typical Protestant Christian philosophizing by Benjamin Tallmadge.

Summary: Benjamin Tallmadge at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781. Exploring the moral quandaries of war, ethics, subjectivity, duty to one’s country and God - and if God even exists at all.

Except: Raining down cannon fire which soon spread set the vast majority of the English fleet aflame. Tallmadge didn’t see it, not all of it. Truthfully, it was hard to watch, the agony of others, even the enemy, even redcoat lobsters, practically flamed alive. Cornwallis retreated in a small escape vessel but in but a manner of hours, the English fleet at Yorktown and the men who had stood through no fault of their own for their… King and Country were obliterated.

Hey everyone, just so you know I'm still lurking here (and I don't think I'll stop anytime soon), but I can clearly tell that my interest in mcyt (and especially dsmp) had faded :(

However, the one thing I hate about falling out of fandoms is leaving so many ideas for fics unfinished, or never even mentioned. There's this one fwt fic I really wanted to write, but I never got even close to finishing it and now I have 0 motivation to continue it, and that's just one idea out of So Many!

But!! I realized that most of my notes are surprisingly neat and if I clean them up a bit, I could just share them! So that's what I'll be doing now, by queueing shorter bits of them and having them posted daily! I'll try it with the fwt fic first but in case I decide to do more, all the WIPs revealed that way will be under the cut:

The dress that you had wanted to wear to the Clemence family ball that night, while beautiful with its light pink silks and printed roses throughout the skirt and bodice, it had one small flaw that had escaped both yours and Jonah's notice in the original fitting.

When completely buttoned up in the back, the fabric stretched around your abdomen in such a way that it made it much more obvious that the Queen of Hearts and his future wife simply couldn't wait until after their upcoming wedding to start their own family.

Granted, the change currently was minimal, just barely showing if you turned to the side, it was still noticeable enough that you didn't want to risk exposing your little secret just yet to your future in-laws, the relationship already tenuous at best without scandalous rumors.

Unfortunately, there was no time to buy a new dress that was less secret-revealing or to have this one altered so that your baby belly was less noticeable, so you were in a predicament. The thought did cross your mind to find one of your older dresses and wear one of them. However, they were also much tighter than you had remembered when you tried them on, the risk of exposing yourself much greater than with this pink silk gown.

With a sigh, you started unbuttoning the dress, noticing how it became looser around your abdomen, disguising the truth in the loosened folds while still looking proper and elegant.

Then, you noticed the red shawl that Jonah had given you as a present ages ago sitting on the back of a chair. Even from afar, it matched well with the red printed roses and the pink silk of your dress.

Flushing lightly at the sudden idea, you wrapped the shawl around your shoulders, making sure that your back was covered, and looked at yourself in the mirror, discovering that your belly was no longer largely evident, even with turning to the side and squinting. What would everyone think, if you were to go to a party with your dress only partially buttoned? What would Jonah think? You chuckled at the thought of potentially deceiving all of them.

"[Name]?" You heard a knock on the door. "I'm coming in."

Jonah walked inside, his boots clicking on the floor, looking quite handsome in his new white and pink suit. He smiled when he looked at you.

"I knew that dress would suit you," he said, coming to take a closer look. "It fits you like a dream."

He ran his hands over your sleeves and the red shawl, looking over you carefully.

"And you found that shawl I gave you last year. It's quite adaptable with all your outfits. I like that."

He circled you, looking over your little ensemble.

"No pinching or tightness anywhere?"

"Well… no, but…" You said trailing off, making him look up.

"What's wrong?" He asked, frowning, looking over you, "the shoulders? The length? Do you not like the pattern?"

"N-no, it's just.." you moved the shawl, exposing the unbuttoned buttons.

Jonah flushed pink and huffed.

"That's indecent, [Name]! Leaving your back exposed like that! But, it's an easy enough fix. Did you have trouble reaching these buttons?"

Jonah made quick work of fixing the dress before you could protest, his hands deft and quick. When he looked at you again, the silks were taut around your belly once more. Even the red shawl couldn't disguise it like before. You couldn't help but laugh when his eyes widened in realization.

"It.. doesn't leave much to the imagination, when it's fully buttoned."

"No, no it doesn't." He knelt down and placed his hands around your belly, shielding it from the world, a pout on his lips. "I thought it was perfect for you."

"Well, we didn't count on starting our family so soon either, or that they would grow so much so quickly." You placed your hands over Jonah's, letting your warmth seep into him.

"If only I could tell them," Jonah sighed. "A new member of the Clemence family right under their noses. But, I won't ruin your reputation like that."

"I'd be more worried about ruining yours, Jonah." You smiled. "They already don't like me as it is."

Starting The Day [221B-Arthur]

Rating: Teen/Just on the edge of Mature Pairing: Arthur Conan Doyle x Reader Summary: Arthur starts his day with you. Warnings: Suggestive language and actions. It's Arthur, and as we all know: Arthur=just a slight notch above PG-13 Notes: Various times when ao3commentofday posts about different names for varying lengths of fic (drabble, ficlet, etc), on the list, there was a format used by the Sherlock fandom called 221B where you write a piece that's exactly 221 words, the last word starting with the letter B (in reference to Holmes's address, 221B Baker Street). While I have not participated in any Sherlock series fandom, adaptation, or whatever of that respective collective fandom, I thought it would be fun to try the writing format on Ikevamp's Mr. Doyle himself. Because I think it'd be funny and fun

"Luv, I might just kiss you."

"You say that every time you see me."

"And have I ever not delivered on that promise?" Arthur stood up after you set his breakfast tray down, wrapping his arms around you and kissing your nose. “I never seem to be able to start my day without seeing your lovely face.”

“I’m sure the coffee helps out more though.” You reach for his wrinkled shirt, little blue dots sprinkling the cuffs. A sure sign of his late-night escapades, now that he was dating you.

“Oh? This certainly wakes a man more than your delicious coffee.” He smirked, reaching for your collar, his fingers gingerly brushing your jaw, the ink long dried enough to not mark your face.

“Laundry day, Arthur,” you reminded him with a small smack on his wrist, pointedly ignoring his little pout. “it’s going to take forever to get that ink out.”

Arthur sighed. “Pity. Sebas has you on the short rope today, does he?”

You smiled.

"I have the advantage of knowing your habits, my dear Arthur. I let you have your way, and nothing would ever get done.”

His frown deepened in spite of your fingers making quick work of his remaining buttons, the cotton fabric sliding off his arms.

He starts, however, feeling your brazen hand on his belt.

Ikevamp Suitors Help You Get Dressed

So! A while ago, I reblogged this gif set from a Russian TV mini series about Anna Karenina, depicting I'm assuming the leading lady and (likely, I don't know the exact details) her lover, Alexei Vronsky, helping her to get dressed. It's a detail not often depicted in media, a husband or lover helping their loved one get dressed, and that gif set, even though I know nothing about the show or about Anna Karenina, just thought it was incredibly sexy of seeing this kind of intimacy shown. It stuck in my head for a bit until I finally decided to apply the idea to the suitors.

And I did try to stay in the realm of a gender-neutral reader (as clothing does not have a gender, masculine-leaning or non-binary friends can wear corsets and skirts too if they want), but there are likely things that slip past my radar and I'm sorry if I didn't catch them before posting.

Also, a mention of a minor spoiler for Sebastian's entry where I mention he has a sister. She's mentioned in his bday stories, but not in a great amount of detail (as of yet, according to spoilers I've seen. She'll be mentioned more when his route comes out) so there's that.

Napoleon

If you manage to wake him at a decent time (preferably before noon), Napoleon will gladly help you lace into your corset, for a small fee of a good morning kiss. It doesn't take him long to pull on your strings and he can get them sitting right in minutes. He finishes off the tying with a little bow and a second morning kiss because he thinks you look cuter that way, especially the freshly kissed part.

Mozart

Mozart prefers to be quick and efficient most days, so when he helps you dress, he's likely the fastest of the suitors. Though there are times he pulls you a little tighter than he usually does, you're sure to hear your little gasp as the garment is pulled taut. He will loosen it and apologize with a small kiss if you complain though. When he ties you off, he prefers the knot (multiple ones at that) not only for their swift nature, but it's also harder to undo, so some hooligan pulling on your skirts will have a harder time undressing you and sabotaging your dignity.

Leonardo

As many an event can attest, Leonardo prefers to help you 'out' of the corset rather than into it, but he takes pleasure in lacing his cara up most mornings. With a cigarillo between his lips, he goes down your back pulling and settling the laces so they lay flat, giving you the most beautiful figure in the process, you'd think you had stepped out of a painting. He ties you off with a little bow.

Arthur

Another that muchly prefers helping you out of your corset rather than into it, Arthur still finds his pleasures with helping you lace up in the morning. He can never resist running his hands down your sides, the silk gliding across his fingers, a kiss and a whispered tease into your shoulder, maybe an ear nibble if he's feeling especially frisky. He ties you a loose bow, a promise for the two of you later on in the day to continue what that whispered tease suggested.

Vincent

Vincent is excited when you asked him for help lacing up your corset. He sits on his stool partially dressed in only his brown slacks, more eager to help you dress than to fully dress himself. He pulls on the laces gently but firmly, making sure every line of ribbon was resting comfortably on you. He finishes you off with a simple knot, tucking the extra ribbon length in the gap next to your hip, giving your shoulder a light peck and a small compliment about how beautiful you look.

Theo

Another that prefers efficiency in the morning because Mr. Art Dealer Extraordinaire has things to do in the morning, wake up, Hondje! He's likely up before you, pulling your sleepy self out of bed. Before he fully dresses himself, he's pulling up your stockings, slipping your feet into shoes, and wrapping a silky corset around your middle. He'll chuckle quietly and poke your side if you dare to yawn as he's pulling, messing up his rhythm. All in good fun though as he thinks your sleepy face is adorable, especially after he kisses your pout away.

Isaac

Usually one that's good with his hands, you would think that Isaac would be a pro at lacing your ribbons down your back. But, dear reader, let's also not forget how easily flustered he can get, the pink on his cheeks as vibrant as his hair as he stares at your various curves and grooves, or when he feels the warmth of your skin beneath the silky layers. Still, he tries his best to hold everything together, taking his time to make sure the laces lay flat and even, tying you off with a knot. Nice bows are a little complex for him at present, but he'll keep trying until you can get the best bow you deserve.

Jean

Jean is honored when you asked for help lacing up your corset, thinking it something akin to a squire putting armor on their knight. Though he is a little concerned his love has to go out in armor and wasn't taking a weapon with them (sword might be too heavy, perhaps a good sized dagger could fit under their skirts? A weighted baton, perhaps? He could show them some self-defense tactics at the very least) he still tries his best to be your best squire, lacing up as best he can, tying you off with a knot (or multiple ones for the same reason as Mozart, for your protection.)

Dazai

"Oh, Toshiko-san? Do you need some help?" Dazai sees your trouble one morning, laces uneven and you can't reach to tighten them better. Well, he couldn't leave you alone in such a state, certainly not, so he offers his services with your corset. You thank him and the two of you make light conversation, like where you were going so dressed up, what your plans were for the day. It was a far more pleasant start to the day rather than being tangled in seemingly endless ribbons. The only downside was your mini heart-attack when he sat on your window sill when he left, falling backwards and gracefully grabbing and climbing to his next destination.

Shakespeare

He's had his fair share of helping others change clothes, so his experience in theatre is vital in helping his love dress in the morning. His hair loosely tied up, he helps pull up your socks and slip on your shoes in quick time. With your corset, he manages just as easily as his costumed actors, though with slight more difficulty as there are more layers and different materials to contend with here. At least at home, he can take his time lacing up his favorite star performer rather than dealing with a rushed presentation and abject misery of time robbed to satisfy an imaginary standard neither of you wanted to abide by. For his own ease, however, he ties the corset lace off with a bow, so later on his time would be better spent with you quickly being able to undress rather than fussing with being perfect for others.

Comte

Given his penchant to buy you entire wardrobes full of the clothes, it's not really surprising he would sneak in some back-lacing corsets, because his chérie deserves the full turn of the century dressing experience, if they so desire to, of course. When you ask him to help you put one on, he's delighted, hoping you would ask him at some point. He takes his time, making sure the laces were nice and even, tying you off in a simple knot and giving a neck kiss for good luck.
