Answering another question from @rudnitskaia
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
He really enjoys sewing. His main specialties are probably mending and embroidering but he can put together almost anything if he has a pattern. His mom taught him, their primary source of income growing up was sewing, mending and washing clothes for other people. It was also one of the few things she could get him to sit still while doing. He and his mom are estranged so it's something he likes to do if he’s feeling particularly homesick. He misses sitting by the dinner table and working on their own individual projects and getting help from her if he was struggling with something. His mom probably has a dozen kitchen towels made by small steady hands in a box somewhere with the rest of her old life.
He also likes collecting postcards.
Tumblr media
Nothing particular to say about the art. Its Ace in his one room apartment working on Mau's birthday gift. He has most of his sewing gear in the tin box on the table. The flower pin is the pin seen in his bio and the flag pin is a decoration you might see on a Kransekake witch is a type of cake. Probably something he kept after a party.

I was listening to “Only Love Proudly…” again, and when I got to the bit about Jaskier going through more chemises than anyone ought, I remembered a tip from corset making:
The seams of a corset are under a lot of strain, and it is a common failure point- either the stitches will snap, or the fabric will rip along the stitch line. If the outer layer of the corset is expensive silk, it is a very good idea to make sure that the fabric is stronger than the thread, so if the seam rips you can sew right it back up without changing the width of the panel.
So maybe the seamstresses start doing up Jaskier’s chemises in very weak thread, with seams in the convenient ripping locations so Geralt can peel him like a banana and they just have to do a quick stitch job rather than making an entirely new garment.
I think the seamstresses absolutely start making Jaskier's chemises to be essentially tear-away clothing. Jaskier is delighted and Geralt doesn't notice, because, well, all clothing is tear-away if you're a Witcher.

Jewish-Celtic Similarities
So I know I'm late to this, but a while back @nattitavi asked me to please tell more about Jewish-Celtic similarities. This is something that I, too, have some interest in. For context, I'm an American Jew with some Celtic ancestry (my dad's family is """Irish""") and am now living in a Celtic country (not Ireland-don't want to say where exactly I live on the internet). Unfortunately, I don't know of any "scholarly" resources on this topic, but there are some similarities I can think of off the top of my head and have heard brought up in discussions:
Both are communal cultures in which the people help each other out.
Historical dependence on sheep
Indigenous peoples who take responsibility for nature
Long history of persecution and being colonized
Many Celtic rock groups have a lot of Jewish fans and sometimes Celtic rock songs happen to have Jewish themes. For example, to me at least, the song "In a Big Country" by Big Country is clearly about Shoah survivors making new lives for themselves in Israel (but then shouldn't it be called in a small country?), "The Storm", also by Big Country, despite explicitly being about the battle of Culloden just makes me think of 7/10 whenever I listen to it since then, and "Blood" by Dropkick Murphys seems like a good song for Purim (or really any holiday that's "they tried to kill us, we survived").
Using the tree of life as a symbol (although that exists in other cultures, too).
There are some linguistic similarities between Celtic and Semitic languages! I actually do have a source for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAAmwtdP1bE
Could the Celts be one or more of the lost tribes? There's some speculation about this that's in the realm of conspiracy theories, but I think it's possible.

For the ask prompt game:
"Don't say that" w Kit Walker
tw: infertility, angst, brief smut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kit opened the door, setting his coat down on the chair nearest to it. You felt him searching for you, felt his eyes scanning over the small of your back and the curve of your ass. His heavy steps echoed in the small house as he made his way over to you. Wordlessly, your hand moved in circles, sudsing up a plate.
His warm chest pressed against your back and Kit began peppering little kisses along the nape of your neck. Knowing what was coming next, you immediately felt petulant and stiffened as you continued to meticulously scrub at the dishes. It wasn’t that you didn’t love Kit – you did, with everything you had. It was just that he wanted something you didn’t, and something that you’d never ever be able to give him. Still, he tried, thinking that his potent virility would puncture your insufferable, sterile womb.
“Miss me, baby?”
“Sure I did. I always miss you when you’re gone, Kit.”
“Mmmmfff –” His words disappeared into your skin.
His large, warm hands explored your plush hips, squeezing the flesh hard. Teeth clenched, you bit back your words. They continued to venture further, into the crease of your thigh, heading straight for your cunt. His middle and ring finger moved together, caressing the slit. His whisperings were hot on your ear, his breath rushing down over your neck. “I wanna’ fill you up, baby.”
“Oh, Kit - stop it!” You twisted your body away from him, furiously scrubbing at the pan.
Kit’s eyes softened, searching for a glimmer of sarcasm, of joviality. He found nothing but hardness. “Sugah’, don’t…”
“No! Kit!” You threw the pan down, the sound of it clattering in the sink startling him. “ I’m tired of ignoring the elephant in the room. It makes me sick!”
“Baby, listen,” he shushed, his hands clamping onto the sides of your arms. He rubbed the flesh there, trying to pacify you. He hadn’t meant anything by his casual remark, he was just trying to get you in the mood. After a long day, all he wanted was to have you to his own. As any man would.
Bracing yourself on the sink, you leaned over it, watching as the suds sloshed back and forth, tiny bubbles popping. Tears welled up in your eyes, stinging the corners. You hadn’t wanted to cry today, you were so tired of feeling this – every time he came onto you, the worry was in the back of your mind. Finally, you turned to him and spoke, struggling to keep your voice steady.
“Kit, you know damn well that filling me up isn’t going to do anything. And even if it did, you know how I feel about that. I’m broken. I’m broken and you know it.”
“You’re not broken, sugah’ - there ain’t a damn thing wrong with ya’.”
“Maybe I ought to go to Briarcliff. Maybe if they fry my brain long enough, it’ll fix me”
“Don’t say that.” He squared his shoulders. “Don’t say that.”

Also! Didn't Storm have the mohawk and the all black punk inspired costume when she lost her powers in the comics?
So a few days ago I re-read the comics, and yes, Storm made the change right before she lost her powers. So the show is correct, although it doesn't explain why she made that change. Maybe it'll show it in the prequel comic?
This is how Storm describes why she changed her look in the comics:

Script by Chris Claremont, and art by the legendary Barry Windsor-Smith (check out his art if you haven't already. It's amazing.)

@delazeur 's Questions Answered features a prickly 'red' Hawke and the most organic emergence of a throuple I've ever seen (plus, there's never enough Alistair/Anders in my book).

Caralyn's thorn motif ended up on the cover (very fun to paint, I'll have to do more painted covers) and title page(s); & red and gold honestly work for all three of them.

@belphegor1982 tagged me 20 questions for writers thingy, and I don't know if I'm a writer again yet, but I don't think there's anything here I can't answer. Thank you for thinking of me! I'm going to tag in anyone who sees this and goes "oooh!" But also @dawntreaderflynne especially.
How many works do you have on AO3?
29, but some of those are novel length.
What's your total AO3 word count?
553,402. Whoof.
What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly TMNT and Undertale, with solitary forays into Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Transformers Prime.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Shield Against the Dark - Part one of the Undertale odyssey that started out as trying to work out a couple of things before getting the story I actually wanted to write. Which has yet to be written.
Adventures in Human Sitting - Undertale shenanigans exploring what happens when a human is raised by a bunch of well-meaning monsters who don't quite know what they're doing.
The Monster Files - What happens when human authorities attempt to investigate these strange new monstrous arrivals in the overworld by hacking into the Monster Embassy computer networks, with predictably unpredictable (and occasionally pasta-filled) results.
Hushabye - Undertale fluff between Frisk and Sans, originally written as an exercise to hammer out the weird tonal push and pull of their platonic soulmate thing.
To Heir is Human - More Undertale fluff (yeah there's a theme) in which Asgore and Toriel have to deal with their incredibly complex feelings when Frisk falls ill (featuring Sans's reaction as well by request).
I'm honestly really surprised there's no TMNT on this, actually.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes. Unless it's something that's un-respond-able, I do try to respond to everything. When my brain breaks I tend to avoid the inbox out of guilt, but I do get there eventually. Even if it takes a few years.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That Which Is Not Done, for sure. It's the prequel story about the parents of the four turtle kids from the Children of the Forest TMNT AU I started writing with @nicollini, and since the turtles are orphans being raised by Splinter, the ending was already written for me, and I think I cried more writing this one than any other. It's far enough removed from the source material that it could read as a standalone, and there's still hope to be found in it, but it's definitely a tougher read than most of my fluff.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I don't think I can pick. Most of what I write tends to end on a high note (if it ends at all -- my brain rewiring itself to deal with stress and paving over the writing parts kind of put a lot on indefinite hiatus). If I have to pick, probably Little Gifts because it's also full of holiday fluff.
Do you get hate on fics?
Generally no, and not on AO3. There was one several-hundred-word hit piece on That Other Site about how my story was trash and so was I, and if I'm being honest, it's a big part of why my cross-posting to that site kind of fell off a bit.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not really. I tend to do fade-to-black if anything, because I tend to write what interests me, and my little ace heart is just way more interested in platonic soulmates than anything else. There is a ridiculous amount of platonic cuddling though.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Generally no, with the very notable exception of the TMNT/Pacific Rim crossover series. I had also intended the big Undertale story to be a crossover with another property, but I'm not actually sure if I want to go that route any more. Time will tell (I hope).
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't actually know. I think someone reposted Falling without permission once.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not to completion (not for lack of trying -- brains are fickle), but there are a lot of collaborations and pieces of fics that started out as co-written stories and/or roleplays and/or art that were repurposed (with permission) into stories on the TMNT side of things.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
It takes a lot for me to actually ship something, but notable ones are Shepard/Garrus, John Crichton/Aeryn Sun, and I got a huge kick out of Luz and Amity on Owl House.
What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'm not going to answer this one because I don't want to curse anything. I really do hope to tie off all the loose ends eventually. That said, the one that's a massive mashup of ALL THE TMNT AUS AT ONCE will probably stay at one chapter, just because it's so dang hard to write.
What are your writing strengths?
Before the brain break, probably dialogue, largely because it would just happen in my head and I'd frantically write to keep up. I like to think exploring relationships that don't get that much focus in canon is also something I'm pretty good at, but I may just think that because it takes up so much space in my head.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Finishing things. Curse of the ADHD brain even before the break.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Only if necessary for the mechanics of the story, and then I try to find someone who actually speaks the language to help (and now that I'm older and wiser, hire).
First fandom you wrote for?
TMNT 2012. There had been countless stories in my head since I was a wee Fantasia, but that was the first one that wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it down. There were just so many spaces between canon scenes that made me want to see what fit in there, and since they weren't getting explored in the show, I ended up writing Falling, and that led me to everything else.
Favorite fic you've ever written?
I can't choose. It depends on my mood. Whichever one is the one I need most to read at the time (which also happens to be my rationale for writing order).

in honor of love day: what is the biggest or most poignant act of love you have ever given or received? any kind of love, not just romantic. friendship love, family love, partner love, pet love, heck even coworker/boss love
When I lived in Scotland, I would go home about 3 times a year. Except my family loves each other a stupid amount so that wasn't really enough sometimes. So my mum, fuck I love her so much, would fly over at least once a year for like half a week to a week in those periods that I didn't have a holiday. I'd be studying and doing my thing, trying to keep my life relatively on track, and she'd be there, stocking up my fridge with groceries and making bulk meals to freeze and keep me going for a while. She'd do my laundry. Give the flat a quick clean. And to wind down, she'd go out into the city of Edinburgh (where I lived), which is just absolutely gorgeous. But she did this for me. And when I asked her about it later, she said she never minded it at all, bc she enjoyed being away for a bit, enjoying Scotland and Edinburgh for a bit, and was happy to know I was taken care of. We'd spend our evenings together chatting and eating and watching something. They were times of peace and filled with love.
As an act of love of my own, there was one period where I claimed to not be able to make it home for spring break. I was supposedly too busy, and I convinced her there was no point in her coming over either. I kept a close eye on my family's schedule by casually asking about their weekend, if my sister was staying over with the parents those days, you know, small-talk. (Easy enough when you call each other almost daily, which I did bc I knew it made my mum happy.) I flew over in secret and had a family friend pick me up from the train station to drop me off at home. When I got there, I let myself in with a casual cry of "hello!" we all do when coming home. My family all appeared in the hallway, shocked. My mum was the palest I've seen her outside of illness. She broke down in hysteric sobs and cried for an hour, even as I hugged her as we sat on the couch together. She's ridiculous. She's overflowing with love. She's the most wonderful human being I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I'm proud to take after her (even if I am a little less emotional 😅)

Tate Langdon and "don't ignore me" please
warnings: angst, underage reader.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Don’t ignore me.” Tate whimpered, sounding like he was on the verge of tears. Again. He’d been crying a lot this week. He sensed a change in you, a change of heart. He wasn’t wrong; your heart had changed -- it had been ripped to shreds, corroded and decayed all in a matter of days. Information was deadly.
He looked so desperate, so desolate when he cried, and it killed you inside. But what he’d done…
“Don’t ignore me…” he said again.
But you did. You did. Even though it took every ounce of self control you had, you did. You had promised to have no secrets between the two of you, yet he had plenty. You wondered how he carried them all with such a stoic, couldn’t be bothered attitude. Was he truly not remorseful? At all? Everything he did?
“Hey. Look at me.”
Frustrated, you scooped your hair behind your ears, focusing hard on the paper in front of you. The words were blurring together because honestly the last thing on your mind was homework. Of any kind.
“LOOK AT ME!”
Tate grabbed your chair, spinning it around to face you, and you cast your eyes to the floor, still avoiding him. You heard him grunt before reaching for your chin, yanking it up.
“I said don’t ignore me. You can’t do that.”
When your eyes still didn’t move to his, Tate frowned, his bottom lip jutting out slightly. The pout that usually worked, the pout that usually had you wrapping your arms around him, petting his hair. It wasn't working. He moved into your line of vision, forcing you to look at him. His eyes were welling up with big, fat tears.
“Please…” He sniffed. “Please don’t ignore me.”
“Fine,” you whispered, before clearing your throat to find your voice. You yanked your chin away from his grasp, craning your neck to get away from him. With a sullen gaze, you focused on his dark eyes. “Fine, then… Tate. Tell me about Violet Harmon and her mother.”
The way his face changed terrified you. He went from sad to sadder to a dark, roiling anger that you felt in the pit of your stomach. He set his jaw, wiped the tears with the back of his hand and said nothing.
“Who is ignoring who now?”

Wario - When their father was still a good person, Wario fully intended on following in the footsteps of his dad. Being a treasure hunter so he could find the things no one had seen in years, the fame, the notoriety, the money he’d be able to make. Provide a better life for his family. That was a big goal for him.
That changed when their dad left and killed their mom from a broken heart. Wario wanted nothing to do with that lifestyle after that.
Waluigi - When he found out how badly their father had lied about his life, Waluigi decided that at least one person from this family should amount to something. Which is why he was determined to set out and do something amazing on his own. What that would be, he wasn’t too sure.
Mario - The kids around the playground always touted how brave Mario was. Nothing seemed to scare him! Not the tunnel of despair, the slide of terror, the tree of destruction! Anything that scared children he wouldn’t mind. Claiming these places just have a bad name for something that happened long ago that kids just perpetuate.
The first time anyone saw Mario scared/angry was when someone threatened Luigi. Luigi - For how quiet Luigi is, he’s extremely smart. Even if he doesn’t think so. After all, it’s not like he’s a scientist or anything. He just liked to know a lot of different things. If he wasn’t in the Commons/Cafeteria area in school, Luigi was tucked away in the library. The librarian, an elderly woman named Mrs. Merender, was very protective of her books and of the small child that frequented her area. Kids knew better than to mess with Luigi when he was there.

I'm writing a fantasy novel, not dystopian just simple fantasy. My biggest problem is figuring out which tense I want to write in. I keep changing it which is why it has like 30 pages...Would you say writing in past is better than present or vice-versa
I've written books where I switched both tenses and narrative PoV multiple times while drafting! There is nothing wrong with experimentation to find what works best for your story. There is no clear answer to "which is better" because every story is different. You have to choose the tense and the voice that serves your plot and the story you want to tell. But, for an overview of tenses and how they are often used to help you make an informed decision, here's a recent post from the Reading Room!
