SLEEPING BEAUTY PARENTS BACKSTORY
I've said a lot of this before here but i'll go over it again for the sake of the post
Stefan grew up a ward of the Fairy King and Queen, a young mortal infant they found abandoned in the woods and took under their literal wings
His caregivers during this time were the Three Good Fairies, favored handmaidens of Queen Titania
He had a happy and mostly carefree childhood, not venturing beyond the Veil of the Fairies until he reached young adulthood, when he began wandering the edges of the forests that touched on the kingdom of Perceforet
And it was during one of these excursions that he met the beautiful young princess Leah, who'd snuck away from the castle to enjoy the beauty of the woods in spring
Tumblr media
Though Leah was initially startled by the strange young man who appeared from the forest, she soon lost her fear as she saw how kind and courteous he was, and the two began to meet frequently at the woods edge, their friendship growing into love.
Eventually though their trysts were discovered, and Stefan was taken before Leah's father, King Florestan, who demanded to know just who Stefan was who dared to court his daughter
Stefan confidently declared himself the foster son of Oberon, and though this caused the king pause, for he didn't want to risk offending the Fairy Court, he still felt Stefan wasn't a desirable suitor for Leah's hand, as he could be any commoner's son by birth
And so King Florestan declared that if Stefan wished to prove himself worthy of Leah's hand he must accept to undertake a quest--a traditional challenge that he was within his rights to give without risking offense from Stefan’s guardians--and if he succeeded then he would win Leah's hand and the throne as well, as Florestan had no sons (he wasn't the most progressive king but it was the 14th century)
Stefan agreed, and Florestan tasked him with a quest he was sure would be impossible
Somewhere within the land of Percefort there lives a devilish imp with golden hair, known for his dark bargains and darker powers. Stefan must find the imp's lair, break into it, and steal three golden hairs from the imp's head. All without being cursed and or killed by the imp of course--and he must do so before the next full moon
Stefan has heard of this being from hushed whispers in the Fairy Court. He knows how dangerous the task will be but determines to accept it anyway.
It was at this time that Stefan would meet someone who would become his lifelong friend, the King Hubert of Ulstead, and his wife Queen Isolde. Hubert had been visiting the neighboring court of Florestan and was impressed with what he saw of Stefan, and determined to help him on his quest
Tumblr media
The two traveled together through the darkest parts of the forest, fighting savage beasts and overcoming challenges that fell in their way, searching for the lair of the golden haired imp
At last they discovered it, a strange warped place, like a canker in the darkest heart of the forest
During all this time Stefan has managed to overcome with his wits/Hubert's help, as he was told by his foster father before heading off that he would need to fulfill this quest on his own without the magical aid of hia caregivers to prove his worthiness--but now he comes to an impasse
The imp's lair is protected with deeply potent magic, and thats still only the outside. If he's even able to get in Stefan has no real idea what challenges the imp may provide
With time running out, Stefan finally resolves to try his luck with a loophole. He knows he's not meant to ask for magical aid from the Court. But he knows one person who had never truly been part of it. One person who's magics could be a match for the Imp's protections--his foster cousin Melisandre
He summoned her and explained his need, and she agreed to aid him in his quest, under the conditions that he would make her his royal sorceress once he gained the kingship after marrying Leah
(Unbeknownst to Stefan, or indeed anyone in the Fairy Court, Melisandre had long since fallen to evil and looked to become a dark influence upon the human kingdoms with this appointment)
Due to being half-demon herself, as well as very powerful, Melisandre was able to work her way through the wards of the Imp, and using her wits and wiles managed to charm him upon his discovering her. Soon enough, she had him in a state of stupor and was able to this way gain the three golden hairs without his knowledge, sneaking back to Stefan before the Imp awoke
Tumblr media
Stefan traveled back to Perceforet and just in time presented the three hairs to Florestan, who was shocked but bound to his word, and betrothed Leah and Stefan to be wed the following fortnight
However all was not yet well. Melisandre had long carried a grudge against her aunt the Fairy Queen Titania, and decided at last to take her vengance through harming her husband King Oberon
Taking the three hairs of the Imp, which she asked Stefan to grant her and he agreed thanks to her help, she crafted a ring which would drain the life from Oberon slowly, and had it presented through a third party to her uncle
Stefan however, recognized the make of the ring, and linked it with his foster father's illness, but before he could raise an alarm Melisandre reminded him that she had aided him in his quest, going against the Fairy King's express wishes. If he kept his silence then none would know of his deception and Leah would remain his.
Stefan realized the truth of these words, but ultimately decided he could not stand by as his foster father faded away and the fairy court plunge into chaos
He revealed his intrigue with Melisandre and her actions taken against the crown
Titania tried to take Melisandre into custody once her betrayal was revealed , but her magic prevented her capture, and she turned upon the Fairy Queen intending to destroy her
Stefan however in his moment of integrity  proved worthy of wielding the Sword of Truth, Oberon's sword which could only be wielded by a worthy hand and turned it against Melisandre, stopping her attack and casting her from the Court
Melisandre fled, her access to the Fairy Court revoked and a new name of derision given to her, Maleficent
Oberon's life had been saved, but he was still gravely ill, and was forced to draw deeper into Faerie to recover, Titania going with him, but granting Stefan their thanks and forgiveness before they did, promising that he and his family would always remain friends of the Fairy Court
Stefan then told the truth to Florestan and Leah, but Leah refused to break the engagement, arguing that Stefan had now proved himself twice over and asserting her intention to have none but him as her husband
And so the two were wed, (though they had some trouble from the vengeful Imp keeping them from having a child for many years and the vengeance of Maleficent when they finally did) and lived happily ever after

my unpopular descendants opinions  All three movies
These are my opinions not facts and like stated above they’re unpopular there’s a chance your favorite character might be came for or a scene you felt strongly about, I strongly disagreed with. I’m not stating really obvious things either like: Ben shouldn’t have been crowned King at 16.
* Jane got off lightly. She was just as much of a bitch to the Vks as Audrey was but she’s generally the one forgiven.
I think Jane is fake, she’s on whoever is the winning team’s side EX: If Ben decided to date any other AK and Mal or Audrey she would’ve be friended them and ditched everybody else
Family day was overdramatic and you could definitely tell that they C4 were teenagers with their decision making
They had ONE bad day in Auradon after for the most part, being treated well and even becoming popular to the point they were questioning their decision
But ONE bad day and they decide to go through with taking over Auradon and it’s not like anybody was lying on them.
Sorry Queen Leah is another thing but Chad wasn’t lying about anything and for them to know he wasn’t and sit and get offended was dumb
They came over to Auradon with Bad intentions and got to roam around freely and took advantage of it
Mal did steal Audrey's Boyfriend by drugging him, Jay was stealing, Evie was gold digging.
Evie shouldn’t have put her hand in his face if she didn’t want him to push it out of his face.
Because like I said above he wasn’t wrong, Evie didn’t really care too much about Chad as a person she was interested in the fact that he was a Prince.
Was it Prince behavior no? But was he 100% dead wrong no?
Audrey was really the one who started that fight at Family day too
Ben’s whole VK plan was messy when you take into account Leah’s reaction at family day.
The OG heroes should’ve at least been informed that their respective villains children were coming over so they were aware and a situation like Leah wouldn’t happen.
I mean Leah treats her own granddaughter like shit depending on who’s she is dating so she definitely wasn’t going to treat Mal any better but let’s say her reaction at family day was out of pure trauma.
It could’ve been avoided if she was informed and didn’t actually end up standing next to her enemy's daughter.
Ben’s whole plan was dumb and messy.
Giving the VKs restrictions isn’t the same as punishing them for their parent’s crimes
Realistically speaking they were on the Isle taught solely by their villain parents and other villains so it would’ve been sense to ease into giving them trust.
Because looked how that turned out they tried to take over Auradon and their king got drugged all because they didn’t want the VKs to think they were being punished for their parent’s crimes.
I think the VKs not getting any punishment for changing their minutes at the last minute was BS. Especially if these are the same people mad Audrey got off too.
The vks had ample time to change their minds, were considering dropping the plan and when they got in their feelings decided to go through with it.
They had everything to gain staying in Auradon and the only thing they lost was their abusive controlling parents
But they very much got rewarded for changing their mind on bad behavior last minute and it shows throughout the other movies.
That’s why they were so comfortable going in out of the isle without permission especially with the king unprotected.
Because they knew no matter what happened at the end of the day nothing would really happen to them because they had the king’s favor.
Evie was kind of a dick to me when she assumed Uma was going to destroy Auradon and that’s why she wanted the wand. I don’t completely not understand her thinking because She kidnapped Ben to get to the wand.
But no Uma had to have wanted to hurt somebody and not her wanting to get herself and any other kid off the Isle after they 4 of you unfairly got picked.
That’s another thing, it was dumb to pick the 4 ‘worst’ kids because how does that look to the other kids who might’ve wanted a better life.
The one’s who terrorize us here get to be the first ones to get the better things in life and later on we basically have to apply to even leave but also ass kiss the four of them to even get a chance.
Uma stans do acknowledge that she was wrong for spelling Ben but it’s often lighten/ brushed over.
We have to acknowledge the fact that Ben would’ve talked to Uma if she just attempted to after she jumped through the Barrier.
He wouldn’t have thrown her right back in he would’ve spoke to and defended her if she tried but she didn’t she went straight to the love spell
Lonnie is just as fake as Jane is when it comes to homie hopping.
She went fuck Ben and I stand with you Mal real quick for somebody who was supposed to have a sibling like relationship with him
Audrey turning villain was no surprise and I feel especially like the adults should hold themselves accountable more.
My opinion on this matter is biased, especially when comparing to how I’m digging into the VKs above but I’ll say because their actions are excused in canon and largely forgive in the fandom.
At the end of the day I know Audrey had other options than going rogue and she was wrong for that period.
But as fucked up as it sounds I don’t think she would’ve ever done that if it weren’t for her circumstances.
She would’ve lived a responsible life, spending her days cheerleading, and preparing for royal duties.
But instead not only did her relationship fall apart she was shunned.
Jane, Lonnie and everybody else stopped talking to her and favored Mal to the point where people were ignoring her when she spoke and asking why she showed up to Jane’s birthday party.
So of course in her mind Dating Ben/ Being next in line for Queen= being treated like a human.
Because all of these people ignoring her were kissing her ass when she was with Ben
Girl had depression and flunked in school and had to take summer school because it was fucking her up.
continuously she was straight up ignored whenever she said something because she wasn’t seen as anything to be worried about
Straight up insulted by adults she probably looked up to (Belle)
And when people (her grandma) did speak to her it was to tear her down and degrade her.
So she became a threat and something they can’t straight up ignore anymore.
Ideally I’d like for that to happen by her thriving and living her best life but she had to choose evil.
That whole let’s get along bs Evie was doing the entire movie was a waste of time.
If Mal decided Uma and her crew were enemies, Evie and the other 2 yes Men would’ve turned on Uma and did as Mal said.
So she shouldn’t be surprised nobody wanted to be kumbaya with them
Nobody forced or pressured Mal to close the barrier
A large part of it was her not wanting anybody to find out her daddy was Hades.
She straight up says she did it for them (the c4) and the lives they had there
Auradon being safe or any of the VKs were not her priority when she made the decision.
Ben’s little “so have I” irked me because if anybody should’ve been talked to her in three years it should’ve been you
Him thinking she was fine because she rebounded with chad is one thing but literally watching her not only fade from his life but Auradon period and being MIA after being together all the time and had no clue???
Guess he was too busy dealing with Mal’s bs
Headcanon Mal still has him spelled.
Hades little speech was bullshit, he earned his punishment and so did all of his fellow villains
Compared to him Audrey was literally a ticking time bomb everybody ignored because they didn’t care and they fucked around and found out.
and not only that the daughter he was standing in front of saying this played a big part in it so you might want to shut up.
Mal did what she did out of malice, I refused to believe her “I didn’t mean to” bs when it comes to Audrey because Audrey’s name stayed in her mouth whenever she was talking shit.
Audrey was correct in not getting a punishment not because her actions were a result of the adults failing to notice her depression and other kids contributing to it but simply because nobody else did
C4 weren’t punished in D1 Mal was never punished for her fuck shit, Uma and her friends weren’t given formal punishments from what I understand (especially with it being a known fact Uma spelled Ben for her own gain unlike Mal’s lying ass saying she did it for love. She was wanted to be captured though I believe)
So why should Audrey out of everybody be the only who got a formal punishment, I think not
Audrey being kumbaya with them at the end was too soon, she should’ve left Auradon, healed and never spoke to them again.
Because like I said she was at first a ticking time bomb and now that she exploded everybody wants to be civil now?
She needed new friends a new life everything.
Uma too, she shouldn’t have to be friends with Mal either
C4 forgiving Mal for her decision to shut the barrier down was not their place in my opinion.
Of course you’ll forgive her because it really isn’t doing anything to you having it shut down especially Evie she got the kid she wanted off of there
This wasnt about them this was about the kids who didnt even have the choice nor would they be aware of it, had Mal went through it
It wasn’t about C4 and their hurt feelings about Mal lying
Do I even need to say them taking down the barrier was dumb?

Your unpopular opinions on Descendants.
Queen Leah is unjustly villainized by the fandom. In the first movie, her role consisted entirely of "being horrified because she genuinely thought Mal was Maleficent and was terrified that she was back for revenge." She did not appear in the second movie. Then in the third movie, yes, she was very harsh to Audrey. But she's not nearly as bad as the fandom makes her out to be. I've seen headcanons/fanfictions of her being solely responsible for every single bad thing Audrey did, actively hating every villain child born on the Isle - you know, the ones not connected to her story at all - and the root cause of the bad conditions on the Isle because she decided to meddle with the supplies the Isle was getting and stop the shipments. Where on earth does it mention that she wants all the Isle kids to stay there forever, and probably die? Where does it say that she is solely at fault for every negative thought Audrey had, and her villain arc? Last I checked, actions were generally the fault of the person who did them. Yes, Leah was harsh to Audrey, and her words were probably what set her off, but clearly this was only the last straw in a set of circumstances that had been building and building for quite some time, likely since Did I Mention! I'm making a post about this. Whenever I get around to finishing it.

Decendants but make it Fear Street
Audrey had always prided herself on her ability to read others.
She was a princess afterall, one must always be aware of the intentions of others.
But that gift meant she noticed things others did not.
Things she did not want to see.
Audrey adored her parents, they were the sun and moon in her eyes. She wanted to be just like them as a little girl.
Strong.
Powerful.
Beautiful.
As many children do as they get older, Audrey realised her parents had their flaws.
But it wasn't quite like the way other children had noticed in theirs.
Leah, her mother who had always been the picture of beauty and elegance...was sad.
Their was a heavyness in her gaze, a tension in her body that when Audrey first noticed she couldn't believe she never had.
And it was always when her father, King Stefan was nearby.
Her mother's smile would tighten. Her hands would claps together to conceal the smallest of tremors in them.
Audrey didn't like this.
Didn't like the way her mother's kind smile when she looked at Audrey would stiffen when Audrey's father approached.
Leah looked so afraid and Audrey hated it.
She hated it even more when she realised her fathers smile would only widen.
Mirth in his eyes at the slightest weakness he'd sense in his wife.
It made Audrey feel ill.
She wanted to scream and shout, it felt like a sick joke she didn't know the punchline too.
And once she saw it once, Audrey couldn't erase it. She couldn't unsee what she had saw.
The way her father's throne was always slightly higher than her mother's.
Stefan always walked into every ball, every meeting with his arm around Leah's waist.
Every time he initiated that she would flinch.
Every
Time.
Audrey saw red when magical folk were bought up and her father tightened his grip on her mother.
Audrey knew she had bruises.
"Mama...?"
Leah looked up from her book, her gaze softening as she saw her daughter.
It made Audrey want to cry, that no matter the pain her mother was in, she would always looked at Audrey with nothing but love.
"Audrey, darling. Come in, how are you?"
Audrey went over, curling up on the sofa beside her. Her mother's arm wrapping itself loosely around her.
Audrey snuggled up to her, not wanting her mother to ever think she was afraid of her touch.
"Mama... Why does Papa..." She trailed off, not knowing how to say it.
She hated the fear in her mother's eyes just at the mention of him.
Audrey felt disgusting, bringing him up in her mother's study. The one place her father did not step into.
Like she'd ruined something sacred.
Leah moved gently so she could hold her daughter in her arms.
"Before I met your father, I was desperately in love with someone else."
Audrey blinked, looking up at her and her mother smiled warmly.
"You were? What was he like?"
Her mother ruffled her hair lightly. "She, was a mishevious soul. A lot like you." She bopped her nose and Audrey giggled.
"I'm not" she pouted and her mother chuckled. "Of course not my dear. She was bright, smart but people always underestimated her."
As her mother spoke, Audrey knew that her mother had never stopped loving this mystery lady.
"But mama if you loved her, why did you marry papa?"
Leah looked at her, sadness in her smile. "Do you think it's okay I loved a woman?"
Audrey gave her a confused look. "Your heart can't choose who it falls for mama and you love her."
Leah kissed her daughters head, tears in her eyes.
"Unfortunately my darling not everyone believes that. My mama and papa did not. They wanted me to marry your father, and your father wanted to marry me."
Audrey frowned.
"But... But you can't do that!" She exclaimed, angry.
"I'm gonna find her I'm gonna find her and bring her too so you can be happy." Audrey declared, eyes blazing with anger.
Leah was crying at that point.
"Oh my dear, my sweet lovely Audrey. I'm afraid you can't, even if you could change their minds...she is lost to me. Gone."
Audrey sniffled, feeling her own tears fall knowing her mama could never be with her true love.
"But, she left a piece of her behind." Said Leah, gently wiping her daughters tears.
"Magic, while outlawed here was not always. She was magic, and magic cannot be destroyed.
The most powerful magic is true love and you my dear, you were born from that love."
Audrey blinked at her mother in awe. "I'm magic?" Leah smiled, "you are, but you have to promise you'll keep that a secret, all of this a secret."
Audrey nodded "I will, I'm a great secret keeper... But mama I don't know magic, how do you know?"
"Your eyes, I told your father you got them from my mother but her eyes did not look like yours. You have her eyes."
Audrey hugged her mother, vowing to keep her secret to her grave.
Maybe Audrey couldn't give her mother her happily ever after but she would be her magic.
The piece she had of the woman she loved.
"And Audrey, even if you weren't part of her. I love you, I will always love you. You are my light in a sea of darkness."
And Audrey knew her mother was telling the truth.

King Beast, Queen Leah, Fairy Godmother and ninety percent of Auradon adults, gesturing towards their children: „My children, my greatest achievement! They are perfect, aren't they?“
(The AKs, silently rocking in the corner and/or well on their way to corruption arcs:)
All of us: „No, no. Look at them. You fucked up perfectly good youth, that's what you did. They have anxiety.“

✨🌹 Yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty”. It turned out to be the last animated fairy tale produced during Walt Disney’s lifetime. I decided to commemorate the movie’s anniversary with a drawing of Princess Aurora as Briar Rose. What I find most challenging about drawing Aurora is the need to faithfully incorporate the design elements crafted by her lead animator Marc Davis, one of Disney’s Nine Old Men. ✨✨

Have you ever thought of doing backstories for Disney Parents like you've done for Disney Villians and Fairy Godmothers?
Yes! I probably wouldnt do every single Disney parent but there's some that definitely tickle my fancy to dip into. And actually I've kinda already touched on some of them a bit in the process of other Backstory stuff I've done.
I'd like to go in and do fuller ones later but here's what I got for now:
A little bit for Snow's White's mother here:
Cinderella’s mother a bit here:
Aurora's father/little bit her mother:
King Triton has some here:
Not really a backstory but a redesign for my DisneyVerse version of Ariel's mother:
Belle's Mother:
And The Beast's parents show up in my Rumplestiltskin story:
A little bit just on his mother included here:
But yeah would love to do more indepth stuff on the Parents later!

Who's your least favorite adult in descendants?
Leah. She fucked up Audrey bad.... She literally taught her to base her self worth and life off of getting with a specific guy, and that any failure to put a ring on him would be her failing her family.
The fandom likes to put the blame on Ben and Mal for Audrey's breakdown in Descendants 3, but I don't think it's ever empathized by us enough that *Leah* is the primary person at fault. Audrey's tears are essentially because her grandmother has told her she has failed her family for the fact that Ben has chosen to marry someone else.
Horrible, abusive, indoctrinating woman.
