been reading a lot of conversations about space since the james webb images were released particularly wrt to light speed and the fact that we are technically "looking into the past" because the light that actually reaches us is millions or billions of years old, and so we only see these places as they were when the light left, not as they are right now. cool & fine & very interesting
but i just saw someone (shoutout sylverthewordsmyth in the tiktok comment section) reframe this as "the future can see us" and despite this being a natural and logical extrapolation from us seeing the past, it has shaken me to my core. if there's anybody to look at us from far away, millions and billions of years in the future, they would look at us and see... us. they would look and see the same planet we live on right now, with the same continents and oceans. and it will be already long gone but to them it will be as alive as it is to us right now, the same way we see still see stars that have already gone out. i have to lay down

A research team led by Professor Hwang Seung Kook of the Department of Information and Communication AI Engineering at Kyungnam University recently developed “a power generation system of magnetic induction amplication by quantum fluctuation (quantum power generation technology)”.
This technology is to produce high efficiency electric energy with low input of power.
Hwang’s team, for the commercialization of the technology, signed a business agreement with TRC (The Ruby Co.), a company that specializes in making large-sized power generators.
With the signing of the agreement, the research team at a domestic university embarks upon the commercialization of quantum power generation technology at a time when environmental friendly energy is growing its importance worldwide.
Recently eco-friendly energy is becoming more and more important because of carbon neutrality policy, RE 100 (procurement of energy necessary to make products with 100% renewable energy), SMR (Small Modular Reactor), and so forth.
Professor Hwang suggested that application of quantum power generation technology to the existing power generators installed in hospitals, semiconductor factories, etc. reduces fuel and cost, and makes possible production of environmental friendly energy.
He forecasts that quantum power generator will satisfy the policy of “safe and eco-friendly” energy compared to other environmental friendly energy sources.
The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Hwang and president of TRC, Jo Ok Rae.
President of the company Jo has been an expert in efficiency improvement, energy saving and cooling for 40 years.
“We will work hard in collaboration with TRC to successfully commercialize the technology developed in the lab, and do our best as sustainable management becomes difficult if we don’t produce energy in an eco-friendly way.

A Research team at Kyungnam Univ. pioneers a K-energy new deal, opening a new era of green energy powerhouse.
Yonhap News Agency in Korea,  24th December 2021
The team succeeded in developing a world’s first “power generation system of magnetic induction amplication by quantum fluctuation”.
A research team led by Professor Hwang Seung Kook of the Department of Information and Communication AI Engineering at Kyungnam University (President Park Jae Gyu) developed a world’s first “power generation system of magnetic induction amplication by quantum fluctuation”, which produces electric energy in an ultra-high efficient way with the structure of higher energy output than the input. The team published paper on it.

This outcome is a remarkable achievement of a research team at domestic university. It heralds a new era of K-energy powerhouse by transcending classical physics theory that thermal energy and engine has dealt with and laid the foundation for the Industrial Revolution.
The energy utilization technology using quantum fluctuation which can transmit energy, convert it in various ways and expand it has diverse applications and opens up new possibilities for energy systems that can be applied to industries and society as a whole as well as individuals.
※ Quantum fluctuation is a temporary change in the amount of energy at a point in space in accordance with Uncertainty Principle of Werner Heisenberg, who won Nobel Prize in Physics in 1932.
Compared to conventional motors, the quantum power generator of magnetic induction power generation system presented in the paper does not show the problem of overheating when it rotates. Once it rotates, it continues to revolve without input of additional power, and demonstrates a speed of 5000~8000 rpm or more with an input of 1.5V battery (AAA).
While existing motors reach a boiling point of motor body only after 15 minutes under load application, the quantum generator does not exhibit any temperature rise for 48 hours.
A person from this research describes this outcome as a milestone in the world pf physics. “It truly has potential for growth and excellent competitiveness as eco-friendly and highly efficient electric energy. We will lay the foundation for global sales through acceleration of the establishment of related infrastructure including training of export experts.
Detailed information on theory and test results of this research can be found in the paper “power generation system of magnetic induction amplication by quantum fluctuation” by searching the Internet.

Hiii! Just wanted to say that's really nice to find other people who shift outside of shifttok! I didn't shift yet but I was thinking that it'll probably be more "safe" if I shifted to a WR first, to get used to how real it is and be more comfortable to eventually shift to a DR with a plot. What do you think??
firstly hi i’m also very happy that there’s communities outside of tiktok where we can talk about shifting!
i think a lot of people do that! sometimes i just want to shift to my waiting room instead of focusing on a dr, so i completely understand. some people only plan to be in their dr for a day to get a bearing and then shift back before going for longer periods of time, which is also fairly popular. i think it’s a good idea! i can’t imagine shifting for the first time and having someone just be there when you’re overwhelmed but also celebrating the fact that you shifted.

bad tropes
I have so much trouble enjoying science fiction and historical fiction nowadays. My stupid college education is getting in the way. things that go through my head:
-no, you can’t harvest zero-point energy from a vacuum; you need an energy gradient to do that.
-wormholes are supposed to be spheres
-no, aliens did not build the pyramids for goodness sake
-no, the church did not declare science heretical in the middle ages
-why is the middle east just a big desert in this?
-if you converted somebody’s body into energy to teleport them, you would literally just be killing and cloning them; not to mention that you would essentially be turning them into a nuclear bomb. Also, perfectly recording that information is basically impossible because of the uncertainty principle
-while on the topic of star trek, I feel like that franchise takes the prize for “the most hilariously unrealistic and over-optimistic depiction of a space-faring civilization in fiction”.
-why is everyone breaking formation in this medieval battlefield? and where are all the pikes?
-that... is not how people dressed back then in that region.
-no, hyperspace isn’t white
-just... everything about “pym particles” and the “quantum realm” in marvel
-*sigh* no, the inquisition was not burning witches in the middle ages.
-stop calling it the dark ages, I BEG you
-nobody takes conservation of mass seriously
-no, making objects and creatures out of “pure energy” isn’t a thing
-ninjas refusing to use guns because “honor” LOL what the fuck they’re ASSASSINS

After an unceremonious arrival in a post-apocalyptic timeline where Skynet successfully launched its nuclear holocaust, Casse the T-XA patiently waited in the shadows of the ruined city until dusk amongst the destruction, in an attempt to locate the positions of certain stars and other astronomical objects in the night sky.
Armed with a copy of the chrono-spatial co-ordinates that were programmed into the time displacement equipment from the timeline he departed from, Casse had no way to determine if the equipment was accurate and if he had ended up in the right place, at the right time. Being able to determine this would be of great use to his current, self-imposed mission.
Unfortunately, the sheer volume of smoke, haze and smog from the beginnings of a nuclear winter thwarted his multiple attempts, even with his boosted and enhanced visual sensors. Casse then loaded up secondary methods, picked the one which was the most accurate but still was still much less accurate than using astronomy and astrophysics, but could be useful to some extent, but Casse really had no other choice.
Tumblr media
Scanning the ruins of the buildings directly around him, Casse compared them to the files he had of the current city from a timeline when Judgement Day had never actually happened, comparing the ruined husks to what they would have looked like only a few short months ago, and after a few seconds he arrived at a 90% confidence rate this was the correct place, and that the circular error probable rate of the spatial location chrono-teleportation was a surprisingly minimal 10 metres. This was more accurate than the ICBMs Skynet had launched in what appeared to be only a few months prior to his arrival.
Radiation sensors built into his highly advanced next-generation mimetic polyalloy confirmed that, based on background radiation readings of various isotopes, Judgement Day had occured between and 4 and 6 weeks prior, and that surviving humans would be few, but buried deep underground in relative safety.
Casse could only hope Julian was one of them, as locating him was of the utmost importance to his mission. And, he had a good idea where to start to look.
The one tonne of liquid metal then emitted creaking and slurping noises as started to melt down into a pool of shimmering silvery blue liquid metal, spilling onto the ruined roadway. It twitched, and after a few seconds, three humanoid shapes rose up from the puddle, and molded themselves into faceless featureless humanoid shapes. Not one drop remained on the road.
Tumblr media
Even in this split state, each of Casse's components was roughly equal to Skynet in intelligence, and he was the most superior and intelligent creation to ever walk on this earth. But Casse didn't consider that. He didn't need to. He already knew.
Thanks to the esoteric nature of his 2nd generation liquid metal, each of Casse's components remained connected in a giant mesh network through the quantum foam, so his hive mind remained connected at all times in a giant electronic network of higgs-boson particles and other exotic quantum mechanical phenomena. Again, Casse didn't need to consider this. He had a rather peculiar human to locate.
The three liquid metal components remained in their shimmering form. There was no need, at this stage, to waste resources and morph into a proper human appearance. Silently, they walked off in different locations to comb the wreckage for clues of human habitation and a certain underground room Julian was hopefully sheltering in. It was time to get to work, and the less time spent in this hellish almost alien-like landscape the better.

Realized that my daydreams about retrieving Solanum from the Quantum Moon play out shockingly (hell, poignantly even) close to some sort of reverse tale of Orpheus
#as in. turning around to check shes there spelling her death versus having to stay turned around to be sure shes there keeping her 'alive'#outer wilds spoilers#solanum outer wilds#AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA#also it'd still be either doomed or extremely difficult (even discounting the sun thing) because like#she'd be a quantum object for the rest of her semi-existence pretty much#even if you got her OFF of the moon she'd still exhibit quantum properties in the same way other things entwined with quantum phenoma do#especially her since like. she's also literally speaking dead. causally her being able to exist YEEEEEAAAAAAARS after her species went#locally extinct is just makes that more apparent (given nomai can't be super long-lived given. textual evidence pointing towards them#being able to lose knowledge across generations within comperable spans of time)#though her exiting the moon and being succesfully taken back to Hearth or wherever would also mean she'd.#like. maybe also 1/6th exist there????#though that'd only last as far as the whole loop thing. fuck that sun in particular#.....of course my little stories about whisking her outta there are mostly involved in grabbing as many hearthians as possible and going#As A Group to the eye sldhgkllhkdsghlksgdhlkgdhlgdsgsdhlk so the sun going kablooey aint a huge deal in that regard#(though the prospect of bringing not-accustomated-to-exploring hearthians to the eye is ghoulish enough in its own right to even consider.)#(maybe just stick to the main 5)#well#six#seven including us really.
