Real. Big. Stories. 75-70 million years in the making.
Poster for my upcoming up-to-date webcomic remake of “Dinosaur Planet” which will use the 20 years’ worth of paleontological knowledge that has passed ever since the old Discovery Channel show first aired in December 2003. Having watched the show a long, long time ago, I personally believe that with its unique approaches to the dinosaur-documentary genre, such as having character-based storytelling and showcasing creatures from different geographic areas, Dinosaur Planet is worthy enough to have a remake like this for the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
To the delight of many, Prehistoric Planet came back this year for a second season, bringing with it a whole cast of new and returning maniraptoran dinosaurs. How do these depictions line up with the latest science? I discuss this in my review.
Pyroraptor ("Fire Thief", how dope is that??) was a dromaeosaurid dinosaur, first discovered in Provence, France. Like many dromaeosaurids, it hard a large, curved toe claw on each foot that it likely used for hunting or climbing. The species is also known to have been covered in plumage, similar to many of its contemporaries and relatives.
Haven’t been drawing many dragons lately, I am getting back into drawing them recently however but in the meantime I have been obsessed with my personal art/writing project that involves dinosaurs :3
Why does Pyroraptor olympus, one of the most trending Dromaeosaurids as of now, always have to be red or associated with fire? Here I’ve managed to give this small Maastrichtian unelgaine a more naturalistic-looking color scheme that reflects camouflage associated with a cursorial, insular hunter of small fast-moving prey.
This individual is eating a crab that it caught on the beaches of what is now Southern France as two indeterminate enantiornithines fly overhead.
So, who would have thought that ignoring your ilness would backfire so hardly? I was completely decomissioned for a grand total of 3 days! So there's a lot of catching up to do!
A Pyroraptor for day 19 tho! @1dinodaily.
As always, you can get all these cute stuff in my redbubble
