Halloween prompts year 2 day 27
Danny watched on as Nightwing- his literal soulmate- did an amazing backflip off of a roof, spinning several times in the air before landing gracefully on the top of another building. Nightwing was so graceful and in control of himself and his movements. Danny found himself wondering how Nightwing would move as a ghost.
Heck, how would he look as a ghost? Would he have white hair like Phantom or blue hair like Ember? Maybe green hair like Kitty and Youngblood, but Ghostwriters hair was still black as a ghost so maybe he'd be like that?
Shaking his head he moved to get up from where he had been leaning up against an old chimney, Nightwing having long since left. How should he go about this anyway? He can't just go up to a famous vigilante and be like, "Hi I'm your soulmate. Wanna go out with a complete stranger who has no way of proving anything that they're saying?"
And there was the real issue. If Nightwing asked how he had seen his soulmark Danny could just tell the truth: he had seen it in that nasty fight last week where hoards of ninjas had attacked them and tore up Nightwings suit enough to see it from his vantage point.
But if he asked about Dannys soul mark...well that was harder to explain.
His own soulmark used to be on his torso before he died but after he stepped out of the portal it was gone. As in there wasn't a trace of it anywhere. It was one of the reasons he never went anywhere without a shirt anymore because he knew someone would eventually notice its absence.
He could probably explain it as Phantom to make it more believable but he would have to get Nightwing to know Phantom more for him to trust him.
Which lead back to "how do I introduce myself to him without earning an electrified stick to the face?"
After a phone call with Jazz, where she basically gave him the long winded version of "Just be yourself! You were made for eachother after all." He decided that yeah! He can use his ghostly instincts to guide him! Whats the worst that could happen?
Cue Nightwing and the other bats in the batcave a week later, crowded around a table covered in pictures of captured villians and thugs. All of them were the same. All of them showed a subject laying on thier bellys hog tied, and in a cage with the words "horny jail" etched into it.
The only real connection that all of these lowlifes had was them making crude threats, creepy unsolicited advances, catcalling or otherwise being a creep towards Nightwing.
Conclusion: Nighting either has a fanboy following him around getting in over his head or he has a violent stalker staking a claim
Robin disagreed with his siblings. Clearly whoever is doing this is defending Graysons honor and Damian approves.
Danny thinks he's doing a good job in the "showing soulmate that you are capable of protecting him from weirdos" maybe he should get Nightwing an Anti-Creep Stick of his own...

Now that I know King’s dad specifically showed Luz the Titan glyphs because they knew that she was kind, I just keep thinking back to when she found the first one. And she found it when she was protecting King from Eda’s uncontrolled owl beast form. KING’S DAD GAVE HER THE FIRST GLYPH TO PROTECT THEIR SON!

Can't stop thinking about This prompt/au lol
Tumblr media
I almost like to think that Clockwork kind of half-sent Danny to the ghost-world version of Gotham because he was struggling and is honestly just a kid and could use some guidance. And with how the Observants dislike him to the point of murder, CW sure couldn't keep him in Long Now. But Gotham? Now there's a place that not many go, thanks to curses running amok, a very dangerous City Spirit, and amalgamations of fallen Guardians and Rogues. It's chaotic, dangerous, and a hell of a shot, but the Bat could, and most probably would assist the newborn guardian. The living world and the infinite are intertwined after all, influenced by whatever realm it drifts closest to.
Thankfully Danny seems to be enjoying himself- he has a proper ghost friend now! And he's starting to be able to understand Batblob's cacophony of Silent-EverSilent-Gurgles-DistantWhispers-QuietScreamsSilence easier too without Robin translating. (His Ghost-Speak is getting so good :D) He wishes he could bring Sam & Tucker but it's a little too far into the ghost zone. And the ghosts and Vlad doesn't bother him here! (The last time he tried, unknown to Danny, the older halfa was met with a malicious swarm of teeth and maws ready to rip and tear and not lose another child again-) He's even gotten shown the exits to the living-world's Gotham. Robin likes to ramble about the new and different living-robins and about their friend who was also a robin and who disappeared one day and whose core they carry on their belt. Maybe he can help them find out what happened to him...

y’all i cannot stop fucking thinking about it. will with his big blue eyes, youngest of them all, completely musically untalented and rhythmically challenged but by the gods does he understand the human body. following lee around holding his quiver and rattling off whatever he just learned from watching michael in the infirmary. doted on by his big siblings. talking for hours about a galaxy far far away with heroes who choose to save the world, aren’t forced to, hey, they’re heroes, just like you, lee! and his siblings have dreams, they know the prophecies, they look at their little brother and they know he will be alone. they don’t know why or how yet but they can feel in their very soul that he will be out in the stupid world with all its hatred and violence and he will have to defend himself. and he can’t shoot straight and he cries when he hurts someone in training, and all he wants to do is help, and he doesn’t understand that people can be cruel and they will take his kindness and bleed him dry. and a war is coming. they can feel it. do you think they would be desperate? for themselves as much as will? i don’t know how long i will live. i don’t know how long i have left. but you will be there, son of phobos. i know you will. remember me, okay? remember how i loved you. remember how we loved each other, remember how we healed and fought and cared. please. please, will, remember us. and remember how we loved you.

i know the hc that meta knight is super overprotective and doesn't really trust the kumazaki trio + marx, but like. what if it was bandana dee instead. bandee is the one that hisses like a cat whenever magolor is in vicinity and shoots death glares at susie when kirby's not looking. and they are terrified of him.

i just read this sentence in hp lexicon:
But the most important defensive measure the Lupin taught Harry was outside of class, the Patronus Charm, "Expecto Patronum" which he used to save himself and his godfather, Sirius Black, from Dementors
and i cannot believe it took me until today to connect the dots that remus was indirectly responsible for saving sirius’s life

I feel weird giving out unprompted permission statements because I'm making a big assumption that anyone's going to want to use my work. That said I also know people do like to build on other people's art and can't always work up the nerve to ask, so: Anyone is free to use this design if they want to for any reason- I don't own this character anyway. (Although I am hopeful that you do not, you know, monetize it, because i cant do that and if you do that its not fair ;_; ) Feel free to remix, improve, use as basic inspiration, etc. I would appreciate a tag/mention if you use it so I can see what you did!
This design has evolved a little since I first started drawing it, and I will see people reblogging the original design notes and think 'oh no! those are out of date and I don't have new/accurate ones!'
Reblogging the old one is still an honor- and the first take on a design just sometimes has a different appeal because it's less refined and more chaotic (especially with a character that should be chaotic), so I suspect some people will just prefer the older drawings & they'll still get shared, which is great! But I felt as if the project was a little bit incomplete without an update, since I think I've reached the point where if you see that old post & then come to my blog and look at my current content, there's a noticeable difference.
Also I kind of like making design notes.
If anyone's wondering why things changed, the answer's really simple- 90% of it is just the result of him settling into having more consistent anatomy and facial structure so that I can keep him looking accurate across different angles and poses. If you look at the old drawings you may notice that Gollum has an inconsistently shaped squishy head. That's fine for a concept post but doesn't work as well for maintaining him across different comic panels or in an animatic, at least not the way I work.
In the same vein, while my art is still & will always be heavily stylized, I started giving him more structured semi-sorta-realistic anatomy so that he wouldn't look entirely out of place next to less bizarre-looking characters such as Aragorn. (I feel that's also helpful in nudging Gollum into the uncanny valley where he ought to be, rather than leaving him so abstractified that there's a risk you won't see anything wrong with him having noodle arms.) He also acquired the new-style 'garbage bag' outfit because I found a reference in LOTR to his arms and legs being bare/exposed (it's in one of my favorite passages, the 'an eagle would think Gollum was dead if it came by right now' passage in The Two Towers):
Not even an eagle poised against the sun would have marked the hobbits sitting there, under the weight of doom, silent, not moving, shrouded in their thin grey cloaks. For a moment he might have paused to consider Gollum, a tiny figure sprawling on the ground: there perhaps lay the famished skeleton of some child of Men, its ragged garment still clinging to it, its long arms and legs almost bone-white and bone-thin: no flesh worth a peck.

„In the dark of night, those faces, they haunt me…“
„I wish you were so close to me. Yes, I wish your were by my side…“ („By my side“ by INXS)
I’ve always had a special soft spot for Severus in his teenage years. This way too skinny, raven-haired boy with his adorably crooked nose and those beautiful - and yet so sad - obsidian eyes never failed to trigger some kind of an overprotective goddess of revenge in my heart.
There are nights, in which I‘m drowning in my thoughts about Sevy…writing my stories for him. My OC Jules (totally self-inserted…I admit it!) allows him to show his vulnerabilities in her presence. She’s protecting and defending him….in every aspect of his life.
This man deserves some love, respect and comfort…and that’s, what we all in our beloved Snapedom are granting him.
Some time ago, I’ve read a poem by Amanda Lovelace, which reminded me of the consolation and comfort, I’d wanted to give to Severus. I want to share it with you (please ignore my scribble…that’s exactly the reason, why I’m commissioning art from all the incredibly talented artists of Snapedom 😅):
Tumblr media
The artwork on top of this post was a gift from my friend @exlibrisseverus and I love everything about it! The whole mood in your beautiful drawing makes my heart aching for Severus…makes me wanting to fix the whole goddamn world for him.
@exlibrisseverus, you’re a gem of a human soul and I’m beyond grateful that I was allowed to get to know you better. Your resilience and your strength are - just like Severus’s - extremely inspiring to me, my friend and I hope, that you will stay in touch with me! 🖤🥹 Thank you so much for each kind word, for each recommendation and of course for this stunning piece of art!

𝙃𝙚𝙢𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙠. || 𝘿𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚.
a gift for @dion-s-lawyer and @d10nsaint <3
hemlock is a poisonous plant, toxic to both humans and animals, and it means 'you will be my death.'
...aah, can you tell where i started losing motivation?
— rose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
affection — how do they show their love and affection?
dion does not know what affection is, or how to show it. he takes you with him on a 'mission' and gets confused when he gifts you a dead person's head and you start screaming. don't you like it?
blood — how messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?
he's willing to bathe in a pool of blood when it comes to you (baby it isn't like you don't already do that). and he doesn't hesitate to snap off anyone's neck — be it his own family or anyone else. he's not waiting until someone proves malicious intent towards you, either. talk or reach out to anyone other than him, and that person is dead.
cruelty — how would they treat their darling once abducted?
he treats you just like he treated you before the abduction. he's a lot more.. hm, is condescending the right word? he keeps you on a leash and when he's feeling spiteful, makes you crawl. he likes it when you look up at him with pleading eyes to not put you through this humiliation. (he's still gonna do it, honey. sucks to be you <3)
darling — aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?
uhm, this is dion? definitely yes. he doesn't care whether you're okay with whatever he does; he forces himself into your personal space and then expects to be taken care of. makes you sleep with him or on the floor. you're eating at his feet or not eating at all. the usual fare.
exposed — how vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?
he feels like there's a knife in his side that's constantly twisting. are you okay? are you hurt? did someone try to harrass you and he has to kill them? his worries are never ending.
fight — how would they feel if their darling fought back?
amused. it's funny to see you trying to escape and act defiant. precious pet, you actually think you have a chance?
game — is this a game to them? how much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?
it's.. a game at some points. he's fine with you crying, it's nice... but when you cry for him, give him that pitying look, he feels a rush of feeling like he's lost something. give him that look and he'll really give you a reason to cry. as for your escape attempts... he'd enjoy at it the beginning, but as soon as you get too audacious, he'll crush your little rebellion in absolutely no time.
hell — what would be their darling’s worst experience with them?
once, you tried to slip poison in dion's tea, unaware of his immunity.
dion locks you in the dungeons and whips you until your back is in bloody tatters. he takes a break when you fall unconscious and then starts again, making sure you're able to feel the pain.
ideals — what kind of future do they have in mind for their darling?
he doesn't care. as long as he has you, he's fine, he's not too worried about the future.. but sometime in the future, he'll marry you. not because of any loving reason. he'll just have a justification of being by your side at all times then.
jealousy — do they get jealous? how do they handle it?
if you ever give a second glance to someone else he gets jealous. and then he kills that person or gives them in as a toy. simple.
kisses — how do they act around or with their darling?
he tries to be a bit.. less frightening, but mostly he still gives you shivers with how he's surveying your body.
love letters — how would they go about approaching their darling?
he'd either get lant to arrange a meeting or he'll just abduct you straight away. it's not that deep for him. if you catch his eye.. oh, it isn't gonna be good for you. you'll most probably be knocked out, so you don't notice the pitying looks his siblings give you.
mask — are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?
no. he acts with you just like he does with everyone else — stone cold, monotonous, blank. however, you two sit in the stairwell during a ball sometimes. he tells you about how he used to wait for his mother to come tuck him in as a child. she never came, of course.
naughty — how would they punish their darling?
blood. a lot of it. he'll lock you up and whip you, or he'll 'test' out a new knife on you, or he'll lace you up in a too-tight corset and enjoy watching you beg and plead for air.. the possibilities are endless. just please try not to anger him, especially on days in which he's already in a foul mood.
oppression — how many rights would they take away from their darling?
rights? is that like a thing? that you actually get?
patience — how patient are they with their darling?
not very patient. he'll let you defy him for a month. a week more if he's feeling generous. then you better prepare yourself. any more further disobedience will not go down well for you.
quiet — if their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?
sort of? he just feels more hollow than ever. throws all your belongings in a fire and never speaks of you again. as far as anyone else is concerned, you never existed.
lant finds him a replacement girl who cannot for the life of her understand why her husband refuses to talk of you or why her husband almost strangled her to death for touching the picture he keeps of you.
regret — would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling?
just a tiny little bit. maybe this wasn't the amazing thing he thought it was because you're just crying and crying and — then it's swallowed up by justification. he believes a pet's rightful place is by their master's side — exactly where you are right now.
stigma — what brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?
a neglectful father who views him as a weapon, and an insane mother who dissects people on an hourly basis, and a crazy family. blame maria and lant if you want, but they're both unhinged and mental so they don't really care 🤷‍♀️
tears — how do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?
he will make you sob and then wonder why it doesn't feel good. isn't he supposed to feel delighted at the sight of your tears dripping down the bridge of your nose? why does he feel an urge to cuddle you until you stop weeping?
unique — would they do anything different from the classic yandere?
yes. he can't live without you yet he acts like you're absolutely nothing. makes you feel pathetic and worthless so you don't see that you're the one thing he can't live without, ever.
vice — what weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?
none. no visible weakness. if you want a chance to escape, take a leaf out of roxana's book and patiently, subtly manipulate him. don't overdo it, though. he's not an idiot, he'll see through you in an instant.
wit’s end — would they ever hurt their darling?
with pleasure <33
xoanon — how much would they revere their darling?
sometimes, when he sees you asleep or in his clothes.. he feels his heartbeat speed up and something constricting his throat. he doesn't know how to express it or what even is it. just mutters a rushed 'you've got clothes of your own' before walking away.
yearn — how long do they pine after their darling before they snap?
he doesn't pine after you. he sees you, observes you for a week or two, and then kidnaps you if you grab his interest. he's not the waiting type of person. and either way you'll end up with him, so what's the point of delaying?
zenith — would they ever break their darling?
yes. dion often leaves poisons outside; he's immune so he doesn't necessarily need to fear. that being said, you are neither immune nor illiterate. you heard once how soldiers used to take suicide pills to save themselves from torture and imprisonment.. isn't that exactly what dion is doing to you?
the pills are in your hand before you can think about what you're doing.

I really love that in the Steve and Dustin brotherly relationship you have Dustin who loves hats, he has a cap for everything. It's the souvenir he gets wherever he goes. Oh we're at the zoo? Hat. Camp? Hat. If the Upside Down had a giftshop you better believe Dustin is taking a moment to go get a cap to mark the occasion.
But then you have Steve who hatessss hats. Screw company policy, this light as fuck hat is too much for my hair. His hair is a statement piece and he puts too much effort into it to put a hat on. Too vol? Oh well my hair will keep me warm cause you'd catch Steve dead with a beanie on. His only exception is he'll wear hair clips when the girls give him a "makeover" but fuck hats.

So I didn't draw it today BUT I really need to focus on commissions so I'm counting that as my art of the day despite probably not finishing one day TO post. So you get this instead.
Deacon as stated before is basically paid to be intimidating but he truly can't help but light up for the lightning deity because "that's the friend of my boss!" so he properly greets her with a "Lady Fulj" as a formality and respect. While he does respect the deity he's sworn to, he just calls him boss. That's what he gets.
He doesn't have any magical powers but he's got a strong sense of energy regardless. He can pinpoint when Fulj arrives. He can sense in the room he guards to make sure Ymber is still there (though he doesn't teleport and that's the only exit. But when Fulj visits and he's still outside he senses both deities and it puts him at ease.
What impresses Ymber immensely is the split fire deities - he can personally sense that one is around but he doesn't know which. He simply recognizes their energy as "fire deity, be on high alert". Then one day as he's getting tense over it (the fire deities like to tease him), Deacon reassures him "hey it's the guy today! I noticed he is less brutal in his comments it will be fine C:" and Ymber is stunned that he can identify which one is there before seeing them.
Deacon can also sense spirits and in Ymber's temple can actually see and hear them. But he doesn't tell them or interact, he lets them be in peace. Until he laughs at something one says and the spirits realize he's heard them for the past multiple years which is ... embarrassing. In addition to that, he can usually sense a monster out of town. On his rare walks with Ymber he's able to guide them around the monsters easily so neither one has to fight (though he gladly would fight em and he knows Ymber could one shot any of them).
He wants to be well trusted by Ymber and figures it won't happen, Ymber is simply too closed off and reserved. That's fair. Deacon assumes it's his mortality at play and why entrust him with his past experiences when he's just going to die sooner than Ymber would bother with. Which then shocks him when Fulj gets upset about "he didn't even ask for consent" and gets angry at Ymber for not telling Deacon. So she guilts Ymber to tell Deacon "um, I apologize for not asking you but I have extended your life. By a few centuries. I'm sorry" expecting Deacon to get upset at having to leave behind any loved ones as he doesn't age or die anytime soon. But! Deacon as a dedicated follower aiming to only please his boss is delighted by the trust shown by wanting to keep him around longer and proceeds to take his job as guardian/bodyguard even more seriously (which is hard to do with how serious he was before).
Anyway I won't go into the details now since this is already an essay but I've been shoving suffering onto Ymber and Fulj and why they are both like they are - withdrawn (Ymber) and enamored by humans (Fulj). But not for happy reasons.

This essay about how firearms classes teach attendees to be constantly vigilant and to shoot others at a moment’s notice is IMHO so important that I made the link above a gift 🎁 link, so anyone can read the entire article, even if they don’t subscribe to The New York Times.
UT Austin Associate Professor Harel Shapira attended 42 firearm instruction/ safety classes in different states and came away with a disturbing understanding of why we might be seeing more and more senseless shootings in our nation (like people being shot because they went to the wrong door or drove up the wrong driveway).
Apparently, classes in how to use firearms have changed over the decades from an emphasis on gun safety to an emphasis (in addition to safety) on the importance of shooting someone for self-protection at a moment’s notice.* Here are some excerpts from the essay:
I did not grow up around guns, but 10 years ago, I started attending firearms training classes. I wasn’t there to learn how to protect myself or my family. I was there to learn what was taught in the classes themselves, which a broad coalition of groups — including many police officers, Republican and Democratic legislators and gun violence prevention organizations — have hailed as a path out of the nation’s epidemic of violence.
I found something very different. The classes I attended trained students to believe that their lives are in constant danger. They prepared us to shoot without hesitation and avoid legal consequences. They instilled the kind of fear that has a corrosive effect on all interactions — and beyond that, on the fabric of our democracy.
I took 42 classes and conducted interviews with 52 instructors and 118 students, in traditionally red states like Texas as well as blue states like Massachusetts, in urban areas like Newark as well as rural Southern Illinois.... Most of all, I immersed myself in firearms schools in Texas, where I live, that cater to people who wish to learn how to use guns for self-defense. Some instructors in these schools told me they have been involved in drafting public safety protocols or running active shooter drills for public school teachers. Some of these instructors’ students have gone on to open training programs of their own. [...] First, the good news: Every firearms instructor I encountered was extremely serious about preventing accidents. [...] But teaching people how to avoid shooting someone by accident is a small part of what these classes are about. The primary lessons are about if and when to shoot someone on purpose. And this is where the trouble begins.
Instructors repeatedly told me that a big part of their job was to make people feel vulnerable, to make them aware of dangers they were not conscious of before to understand that bad things can happen at any time. One instructor told me he encourages students to carry their gun at all times. If students say they plan to leave it in the car, he responds, “So what you’re telling me is the only time you are ever going to get attacked is if you are in your car?”
The instructors describe a world teeming with violent and deranged individuals. And not just any individuals. The scenarios cluster around the public spaces of racially diverse cities. “More often than not,” an instructor who had been a high-ranking police officer said, the place you’re likely to be attacked is “in an urban part of society.” [...] Instructors repeatedly told me that statistics about crime are meaningless when it comes to the need to carry a gun. It’s not the odds, I heard on numerous occasions; it’s the consequences....  Repeatedly the lesson was that I ought to shoot even when my instincts might tell me otherwise. [...] Firearms instructors are not the only ones who make an appearance at self-defense classes. Lawyers do, too. Lawyers who specialize in defending gun owners. They go to classes and tell students how to talk (or not) to 911 operators and police officers in the event they shoot someone. In one seminar, a lawyer emphasized the importance of explaining, “I had no choice.”
With more than 200 mass shootings in our country this year alone, advocates of gun regulation often cite the tragic number of lives lost or the fact that gun-related injuries have surpassed car accidents as the nation’s leading cause of injury-related death among people under 24. But another, less recognized casualty is the kind of public interactions that make democracy viable. The N.R.A. says that “an armed society is a polite society.” But learning to carry a gun isn’t teaching Americans to have good manners. It’s training them to be suspicious and atomized, learning to protect themselves, no matter how great the risk to others. It’s training them to not be citizens.
[emphasis added]

The poison described in this article is a political artifact that was deliberately cultivated beginning in the 1980s.”

a while ago, I had been joking around with a friend about the idea of a shonen hero who's like all about the power of friendship and draws strength from their friend group, but their friend group is made up of minor antagonists, and now that I've watched it, I've realized the show I was looking for was mob psycho. That's literally just what mob's friend group is like.
