the idea, the image of a rockstar as we know it is obviously on its deathbed, like i mean someone new and modern, and sometimes i see these random bands online trying to make a name put themselves out there etc and they actually have a good look, like i'll see someone channeling 70s glam rock and i'm like ok cool cool, but it all still falls flat and i keep wondering what exactly would it take for them to be interesting? is it even a possbility today? i'm talking about image exclusively. of course it's tied to music but we can draw a relatively clear line between those two things. i just keep asking myself what would it take for them to be interesting, to be cool to me? it's so difficult to separate it from the age you are, you can't attach nostalgia here and now, the social media impact, lack of mystery, a sort of clean dirtiness they project etc idk this is more me wondering about my taste and what moves and shapes it. not trying to be profound or anything.

Hugs! | Rengoku x gn!Reader
I've been dealing with a lot recently and I wanted comfort
• ───────────────── •
Content: Kyojuro Rengoku x gn!Reader
Warnings: Mentions of injuries, self doubt
Notes: Reader is shorter than Rengoku, also this is me projecting a fuck ton lol
• ───────────────── •
Tumblr media
Sighing to yourself, you gently lowered your arms, your training sword in hand. On your last mission, the demon nearly killed you. You had been careless and cocky, and vowed to train more as a result. Earlier this morning, Shinobu had allowed you to return to Rengoku's home, deeming your injuries to be healed.
Kyojuro was currently out, he had been all day. You were glad he couldn't see you in this state. The last mission drained you of your, admittedly false, confidence. You seemed deflated, and you definitely felt that way too.
When you were recovering in the butterfly mansion, Kyojuro obviously visited you every day, but Shinobu had strict visiting hours set so you could rest quicker. It was easy to mask your emotional turmoil for the hours Kyo visited, you just hoped you could keep it masked until your emotional wounds healed too.
However, it might prove to be impossible. No matter how hard you trained today to get your mind off of the mission, your near death experience replayed over and over in your head. It was exhausting, and you just wanted to curl up and sink into the floor. Sghing again, you pinched the bridge of your nose, trying to find some motivation deep within you to train again.
Finding none, you sigh for the third time before deciding to put your wooden sword up for the day.
"Sunflower! You're back!" Rengoku yelled from behind you.
Goig stiff, you turned to look at him. He seemed so happy...you couldn't possbly dim his light. Forcing a smile on, you gave a tired wave. Kyojuro was carrying bags full of food, careful not to drop them as he quickly trotted towards you.
"I would hug you, but I am currently carrying our meals for the next month! I thought Shinobu would have told me you were coming home today." Kyo then leans closer. "Did you break out of the butterfly mansion, sweetheart?"
That did genuinely make you chuckle. "No, Kyo. I told Shinobu to keep it a surprise is all."
Kyo smiled wider, if that was possible. He then kissed you on the forehead. "Well, this is the best surprise I have ever gotten. Now, come! I'm sure you're hungry, I will start on dinner right away!"
Kyojuro trotted inside, and you let your face drop before following him. Placing your sword on the wall to rest, you let out the fourth sigh within the hour.
"What's with that sad sigh, my darling?"
Turning, you see Kyo once again in the doorway. Instead of happiness, his face was laced with sorrow and concern. It hurt your heart.
"Nothing, Kyo. I'm fine." You put on another smile.
Kyojuro let out a sigh of his own before approaching you. He wrapped his strong, warm arms around you, pressing his equally strong and warm body against you. Sitting in surprise for a moment, you glanced at him, only being able to see his hair in your face.
"Why are you so sad, sunflower? Did something happen today?" Kyojuro asked.
"No...no, I'm fine." You slowly slid your hands up his sides, over his back, and encased him in your own warmth. "I promise, Kyo."
"That is an empty promise, my love. If you do not wish to tell me about it, that's fine. Just please know I am here for you, and you can tell me when you're feeling down. I will not think any less than you."
Kyojuro gave you a little squeeze for a prologned period of time before pulling away slightly. He still held you in his arms as he gazed down at you.
"Would you like to make dinner with me? Would that help you feel better?" Kyo gave you a beaming smile.
A few moments pass before his contagious smile spread to your face. You give a nod to him. "Sure, Kyo. I'd like that."
Kyojuro's smile grew brighter, if possible, before he planted a big smooch on your lips. "Alright, then let's start right away, sunshine!"
Kyojuro dragged you behind him. "Didn't you already start it?"
"I lied!"
He pulled you into the kitchen where he pressed a kiss to your temple. "I love you, (Y/n)."
"I love you too, Kyo." You smiled.
Training after a failed mission was hard, dealing with your own self doubt was hard, but suddenly everything seemed...not so hard when Kyo was around. As Kyojuro started to boil water in a pot, you moved to hug him from behind.
"Oh! Sunflower?"
"Thank you, Kyo. I love you." You squeezed him a little bit.
"I love you too, little flame." He smiled, moving to hug you once more.
Yeah...with Kyo trapping you in his arms, everything seems to be so much better and brighter.

Rlly doing any task that is necessary. (Dood never sleeps)
Being told what to do by others
Slight Origin Story?
Adder was originally just a college student in a rich family, despite this he wasnt rlly.. stable.. Always attacking others when being told what to do thus is often was called a spoiled brat by the other students in the campus. He did have one friend though, his was Hugo, a boy who he knew since childhood.
But then... a certain incident to happen... While one day, there was a campus party & smtn just snapped in Adder, this of course was from the pressure of his father who rlly gave no friks for him at all.. Adder to RAMPAGE & kill any known target that was "in his way" but then he was shot.. by Hugo? His friend! But why? Bcs of what Adder did what was the thing that trigger Hugo to kill him...
Adder was then reborn as a Sinner in Wrath, despite being the first level it was very much a warzone there, despite that he actually enjoyed killing ppl... As it was a way he can FINALLY take out HIS ANGER on the ones who wronged him.. Maybe is that what Mom wanted?
Years later he rose up the ranks, essentially becoming a tyrant till he went into the rank... of a God, who needed to be redeemed when you're now a God? He didn't, and he now had what HE wanted... To be in control.. No more being told what to do by some puny mortals or "peasants". His kingdom grew extensively, becoming bigger & bigger. But since it "was" still TECHNICALLY a part of Wrath, he took some of its culture & gave it his own twist..
And this is how Adder came to be! (And yeh I kinda changed his origins a bit bcs him dying in Highskool felt weird & I feel very iffy with that tbh)
Thats all I have for him.

In regards to your reply to the ask of another anon:
"Furthermore, when we finally learn about "The Most Despairing Event in the History of the Togami Family" via Danganronpa Togami Vol. 2, I was disappointed that we never see Byakuya do anything so twisted and ruthless. Instead of showcasing where he fostered such a cutthroat attitude, we're shown that his ultimate victory over his numerous half-siblings was about as lazy as possible."
I find it interesting as i personally always assumed that the entirety of the flashback itself WAS another attempt at what we saw Byakuya do to Syo by tampering with the crime scene but on a much larger scale, seeing as not only is it confirmed later on that, at the very least, the entire second half of the flashback and Kazuya's confession were forgeries (mainly hinted at by the fact that Chapter 3 of Volume 2 is specifically referred to as "Unreality Side" as opposed to the "Extraordinary Side"), but we're also given pretty blatant hints time and time again that Byakuya at least was deep into the conspiracy going behind the scenes (with the Kudan deliberatly writing the "prophecy" so that Byakuya Togami is the one to stand victorious and Nanamura well... Being Nanamura, lot of evidence piles up on him having rigged the game beforehand) and may or may not have comitted some of the acts by himself (the novel making a pretty clear point on how no one was able to find the weapon used to stab Wasuke at the start, only for the ending of Chapter 3 to show how Byakuya, while disguised as Polaris, was carrying a pair of shears with him that he uses to cut off his hair). Its something i find weird in regards to the way most of the fanbase consumes this book, but to me at least it was always pretty set in stone that Byakuya went out of his way to gaslight Blue Ink into rewriting the book and convince herself that Kazuya was the murderer while prying on Shinobu's pre-existing insecurities brought upon by the confrontation Nanamura had as he named Kazuya as the suspect. The main difference here being that Byakuya is smart enough as to not leave any decisive evidence pointing torwards his true actions at that time, despite the novel leaving around hints so you can come to that conclusion. ...Also the fact that psychic lightsabers are very much not real, so there is no way that Kazuya could have been giving an accurate account of events as he says that he killed everyone.
Note: This is a follow-up to this ask.
Asker, you seem to know more about Volume 2 than I do. Last I checked, we English-only plebes are stuck with merely some lengthy summaries of Volume 2, but no complete translation. And the summaries don’t make any mention of some of this stuff.
**SPOILERS FOR DANGANRONPA TOGAMI VOLUMES 2 and 3**
As you’ve noted, Kazuya does confess to the murder of Yasuke. And he claims to have done it with his light-beam projection weapon — the silly psychic lightsaber which we eventually learn (in Volume 3) does exist, albeit without any kind of superpowers at all. It’s just a mechanical trick device he wears up his sleeve and extends as needed. Which doesn’t preclude it from being a murder weapon.
So it’s at least possible that he killed Yasuke with his fake lightsaber device. I never caught onto or considered the possbility that Byakuya might’ve used his scissors to sneakily stab Yasuke — but I really think the narrative would’ve called attention that possibility instead of just mentioning the shears casually once time and then ignoring them. (Or maybe it did? And the summary failed to note that??) Furthermore, if we fully embrace this scenario, are we then assuming that Kazuya legitimately believes he killed Yasuke, or do we assume he’s fully aware that Byakuya was the real killer? If it’s the former, then Byakuya would’ve had to do it from the back in order for Kazuya to not know he did it, right? Which would create a very different kind of wound. And if it’s the latter, what purpose does Kazyua have for lying about it? Just trying to appear to be more in control than he really is?
I guess that, ultimately, I’m just saying that everything you said may or may not be true — but alas, I have no way of knowing. :-/ I continue to hope that one day, one of these friggin companies translating light novels will see that there’s money in DR!

guess i should probably make an intro post, huh.
blog dedicated to redrawing Homestuck in a manga style! so yeah it'll be functioning mainly as an art blog
~~~
you can call me Angel (he/him)! i'm the artist behind this blog :) ~ for now i'm focusing on drawing some of the more iconic Homestuck panels, or some of the ones i find fun. this is of course because Homestuck is HUGE and i can't possibly be expected to draw every single page. that'd be hella boring anyway ~ when i get more time i'd like to start converting panel sequences into actual pages with some written dialogue, though! these illustrations i'm doing rn are kind of a warmup for that ~ i think a big future goal for this blog would be to eventually start turning Homestuck into several summarized/adapted volumes (free of course, bc i don't want a lawsuit up my ass lol), but i'd definitely have to partner up with several other artists to make that dream a reality. kind of a dream project, but unfortunately won't be possble for me for a while ~ trigger warning for some art that'll have depictions of canon-typical swearing, violence, and death! any slurs will be changed/removed, however ~ please keep in mind that this is ultimately an adaptiation project, which means that not everything will stay the same. i'll be changing/removing offensive content, for example ~ because this is being written in English, things like speech bubble placement and panel formatting will be drawn to match left-to-right reading , instead of the typical right-to-left ~ if anyone adapts any pages of Homestuck into manga-style pages, please feel free to tag me! i love seeing other people's art ~ i'm pretty busy with college stuff, plus i have difficulties with concentration, so apologies if i don't post super consistently or am silent for a while! i'd like to focus on this blog more eventually, but for now i'm still kinda getting the hang of shit ~ although i might not stay on top of them, i do take suggestions for which panels to do next! send them in the asks, and i'll get to them when i can :) ~ sorry i'm not great with introductions 😅 if you have any questions/suggestions of what to include in the main post, please let me know!
Living in my world of hands-off and break even
I would like to have someone manage my fleet and break even. That’s all I want. Money in = Money out.
I want someone to make my game and I want to eventually get my money back on that. Money in = Money out.
Then I could have creations and assets and still have my money back.
Reality is that these projects are scary, and I dont want them to fail.
I know that I should just not do anything. Relax and live my life. But I want t o CREATE. I think source draws me toward this. But I know that I need to fucking relax. Maximum relax.
I want my car collection. I want my therapy. I want my games created, because the ideas are so much fun and excitement!
I want to have the LC, the crosscabriolet, the TRD Camry, Mazda 3 Turbo, the miata. I want developers.
I want it all. I;m gonna have it all. I’ll make it work.
Go for a walk.
Well above it ll, the poogo is making money bery soon. Imagine. xviz. mingeek. Big huge fucking names like this. The hub. Holy shit. imagine the revenue. I could become a multimillionaire, like tens of millions of dollars. Easy.
And on top of that, my money is coming in. Already at like 8000 usd this month and its the 22nd. my money just keeps raining in. I feel brilliant and abundant. I feel like Im; doing less than ever and getting paid  more than ever. Its brilliant. Its wonderful. I love it. I’m on track to gigantic wealth. its great. and my fav part is the interest money i get from it. if i had 100k, if be making 2500 a year or 208 a month just from that. Wouldnt that be nice? my fave kind of money. real passive. true passive.
anyway, big things coming up. i can basically have anything that I want. and I can ultra relax. Thats what I want most. I want great treatments and relaxation.
That money draws so CLOSE NOW.I can almost feel it. Its so much moey. I dont know if I will live all that different. But I think the possbilities will be fantastic.
Structures' grid (scheme definitive/executive) with SdiA Paolo Pettene and partners HEA steel beams and possble solutions As new designer, again, inside my old architecture studio office with my master Paolo Pettene I started a new project: designing an executive project, after a very prelimanary project, could be a bit different the correct approach, but the target is to minimise the changes on the base solution, and this is not trult easy to solve many problems in order to aim beauty and be coherent, not easy at all, but I tried anyway to find a solution, who has to combine price and construction costs plus a bit of smart attitude e rational approach to structure to architectural final solution to do not change so much the previous project... and the construction construction will be not so easy to follow every step of the process... and probably I've found it... The design will change a bit more but not the substance... . #grid #structuregrid #facadedesign #hbeams #heabeams #architecture #nature #design #sports #soccerfield #sportscenter #grass #syntheticgrass #footbalcenter #architecturelover #lovingarchitecture #executivedesign (presso Studio di Architettura Paolo Pettene & Partners) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc-dz_dt4tW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Last post for this semester
This has been a challenging semester, both of the course we had about, coding, wiring, interaction design and also corona pandemics. But I can tell that I have never had that steep learning curve, by that I mean, when I look back a couldn't anything of electronics and coding, and in one week I learn css and html, the other making my own game controller. WELL what can I say, that that I'm really impressed by this course and our course leader.
But we didn't just code and wire, we also, had a semester filled with intrestning guest lectures that inspired me and books that has been on a list to read. I got my eyes more open by books like Shaping things by Bruce Sterling, and I'm still on the last a Philosphy of design by Willem Flusser... I get really inspired by reading and I like to learn to critical views by other people.
We also started have been improving our blogging skills of design process. I have look back to all my posts, and I see that it has curve where I show that I got better at blogging. This idea of constant blogg writing wasn't my kind of thing. But while doing it and especially on the last project I saw the need of it. The possbility of looking back and seeing where are you going, this what I learned. And even so it wasnt the best at the start the blogging developed to be better at the end. It still has potential to get better, my blogging skills, but it step by step.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at my projects and how it has been developing. Maybe I come back for next semesters.
P.s. i also have been working a lot on my English hehe
xoxo Bye for now.
Technology Review: Yeerk Anti-Morphing Ray
The Yeerk Anti-Morphing Ray is a late-war technological development by the Yeerk Empire intended to counter Andalite morphing technology. The origin of the technology is unknown, but many Andalite researchers are reluctant to believe that the Yeerks came up with the idea by themselves. The usual claims are that the Yeerks likely got the technology by either:
Infiltrating Andalite RnD teams
Collaborating with a race hostile to the Andalites, such as the Kelbrid Sanctorium
Discovering or stealing a technology unknown to the Andalites, possibly from an older civilization such as the Pemalites or the mysterious Ketrans
Some combination of the above
Yeerk records indicate that while infiltration of the Andalites had been ongoing through the late-war period and attempts to recover Pemalite technology had some modest success, the Yeerk Anti-Morphing Ray was first developed as a byproduct of a Z-Space signal jamming project on Earth that interfered with Visser Three’s ability to morph.
Realizing the value of such a device, Visser Three immediately commissioned the creation of the Anti-Morphing Ray. Primary research and development occurred on Earth, where interruption by the Andalite fleet was considered unlikely. Secondary development was continued on the Taxxon Homeworld after repeated sabotage attempts by the so-called Andalite Bandits prevented the project from advancing any further (see File LLSN-33 for more details).
Notes made by the researchers on the Taxxon Homeworld indicate that the device had been fully operational on Earth, but the Visser’s premature execution of the scientists working on the project prevented any further development at the time. A closer inspection of the device’s logs indicated that the “Andalite Bandit” the device was tested on had already been trapped in morph for several months, and a more advanced emitter would have been needed to force them out of morph.
Specifications
Initial prototypes of the Anti-Morphing Ray were a large black-and-gray tube mounted on a short tripod, with sensors at one end of the tube and connections for power cables at the other. Controls were variously placed around rear of the device and at the junction between the tube and the tripod. On the front end was a playful inscription reading “This End Towards Andalite” in Galard.
It was paired with another technology, the Remote Psychological State Stimulator, due to a believe that heightened psychological states such as ecstasy or dread may make the Andalite’s Z-Space signature easier to lock onto.
Later versions attempted to move much of the equipment to a backpack, which was connected to a large pistol-like emitter by a thick cable. Tests of this variant on Andalite-Controllers at the end of the war were promising, but the technology limited by it’s need for vast amounts of power and the scarcity of sensors capable of detecting Escafil Fields.
Captured post-war development of the technology by Andalites led to a number of anti-morphing systems intended to prevent escapes by morph-capable prisoners of war.
Usage
The Anti-Morphing Ray’s operation requires an understanding of morphing and Escafil Fields. When somebody goes into morph, their body is replaced via cascading cellular regeneration, where the original body’s cells are replaced one-by-one with entirely new cells built according to the instructions of the acquired DNA. Meanwhile, the original cells are shunted into Z-space and reassembled into the original body (see Ascalin ‘Snapback’ Event, file DCSN-18), where they are then held in a form of pseudostasis to protect them from the vacuum of Z-Space. This pseudostasis is maintained by unstable Escafil Fields that link the true body in Z-space to the newly created puppet body in normal-space.
Because Escafil Fields are unstable, the process is equipped with two safety mechanisms to protect the user. First is that if the field at any time becomes too unstable, the field ‘crystallizes’, or freezes in it’s current configuration. While this prevents the morpher from demorphing, it has the advantage of preserving the morpher’s life in hopes that they may be able to be restored at another time. This is exactly what has happened to nothlits, meaning that theoretically they could be cured with the correct application of anti-morphing technology.
The second safety mechanism built into the morphing technology is that if the field breaks down entirely, the morpher will spontaneously begin demorphing before they get trapped in Z-Space. Once the demorphing process starts under any circumstance, it will run through to completion, usually saving the morpher’s life.
The Anti-Morphing Ray works by disrupting the Escafil field in such a way that it triggers a demorph. Other prospective versions of the weapon could theoretically cause field crystallization, turning the morpher into a nothlit, or sever the field without causing demorphing. In the event of the second option, the morpher would effectively be dead within minutes, stranded in Z-Space with no air, food, or water. However, this leaves a now-feral puppet body behind, which can be a severe problem if it is something large and powerful like a tiger.
As of 2020, no known variant of the Anti-Morphing Ray has been produced that turns the victim into a nothlit or kills them outright.
A hypothetical use of the device was proposed by Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill in his paper titled Observations on Novel Technologies in the Earth Theater of the Yeerk War (June 20th, 2002, published from the Andalite cruiser Intrepid). In this paper, Prince Aximili outlined that with the correct sensors, dedicated power supply, and some work to identify weakpoints in a crystallized Escafil field, it may be possible to restore a nothlit to their former state. However, as of 2020, this proposal also remains untested.
Limitations
Anti-Morphing technology is a line-of-sight technology, rendering it useless against unseen targets.
Additionally it requires special sensors with a massive power draw. For this reason, portable emitters remain very large, requiring either a cumbersome power pack with a limited number of discharges or a fixed mounting in a room or vehicle with adequate power.
Additionally, alternate uses for the device remain a frightening possbility should the technology be acquired by the wrong people. Thus, any research into the technology is tightly controlled and closely guarded, limiting any attempts to use the technology to undo the nothlit state.
1) "I'm curious how other folks feel"I understand we should leave the option of hope for the newly diagnosed. It's possble to live well with bipolar disorder - but it's hard! I'm struggling with a traumatic brain injury, courtesy of my last hypomanic phase (took a risk I never would have while stable. 10 months later I'm still doing weekly PT trying to recover). Years ago, I got too silly/enthusiastic and hurt a friend. He's been dealing with debilitating vertigo ever since, and I'm too guilty
2) to ask if he thinks I caused it. I've lost a job, and my current position requires treatment compliance and yearly check-ins with my psych (granted, I have a weird job...). I'm an intelligent, responsible, white, cis female, with all the privilege, money, and health care that goes along with that - and it's been a struggle! I've known less lucky people who have lost their marriages, their kids, their jobs, ended up homeless and broke. I also know people who are living well - but they're doing
3) so in spite of their symptoms, through a mix of luck, support, and hard work. Today, I'm feeling hurt, angry, bitter, and mystified that anyone could see anything good in this disorder :( but also sending thoughts of hope, and wishing you find the things you need to succeed
Thank you for this! I really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences and I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with so much. I’ve lost or almost lost friends to suicide and I know how damaging severe mood episodes can be. I think treatment is definitely key and I wish everyone had better access to services or felt better supported by the health system (I’ve had really mixed experiences the past couple years for sure). Feeling angry and bitter is absolutely justified and I think mourning the “stable” version of yourself (or whatever you feel like you’ve lost) is real and important. When I was first diagnosed I went through a lot of scary spirals wondering if I would ever be able to have a healthy relationship or a family or do the work I want to do and at the time that was almost more damaging than my symptoms. At the same time it was a relief to have language for my experiences, and through open conversations I’ve made some of my best friends because of our shared mental health experiences.
I guess the comparison I’ve been thinking about is about some of my friends who have disorders like ADHD or diabetes or are on the autism spectrum, the past few years I’ve watched them become more comfortable and capable in themselves by embracing their symptoms and challenges as part of who they are instead of hiding and fighting them. One example is a friend whose diabetes almost killed him a few years back, but who now is a public disability advocate who did a degree in drama therapy and has used his experiences as inspiration for performances and projects. He’s not celebrating his near-death experience and I know that took a lot of mental and physical recovery but being open (and being positive about it in a way) has helped his health and helped other folks understand the risks and how to help their friends and family.
Does that make any sense? I can only speak for myself but I’m learning to love my brain and work alongside it and take advantage of the spectrum of my feelings and that’s been a really positive thing for my self-esteem and my quality of life.
I’d never downplay how hard it is to live with bipolar disorder because it’s really tough. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy but here we are making the best of it. I hope you’re doing okay! I’m rooting for you!
Práctica Arquitectura reinterprets Mexican hacienda in volcanic stone
Mexican studio Práctica Arquitectura has designed La Hacienda Jardín, a holiday home in Tepoztlán built from Texcal volcanic stone and Durango pine around a central courtyard.
Located one hour south of Mexico City, La Hacienda Jardín was designed for a family as a weekend retreat that will eventually be used as a retirement home.
La Hacienda Jardín was built from volcanic stone and pine wood
Monterrey-based Práctica Arquitectura created the two-storey home as a reinterpretation of a classic Mexican hacienda – a large ranch or plantation.
Here, the studio chose to design the building to be more adaptable than typical haciendas, aiming to create spaces that could change as the way in which the home is used evolves.
A large courtyard sits at the centre
Haciendas are usually surrounded by gardens, but this project turned the concept on its head by creating a building that looks like a hacienda but instead has the garden at its centre.
"The typical haciendas in Mexico and in most parts of Latin America and Spain are spaces with large gardens around them and restricted dark-cold inner areas, impossible to rearrange to the needs of their inhabitants," David Martinez, head of Práctica Arquitectura, told Dezeen.
The upper floor overlooks the courtyard
"This project takes formal inspiration in the hacienda, reducing the elements to its minimal, being a roofed wall, creating different paths of circulation within," he added.
"It solves the issues intrinsic to the typology through light and the possbility of organizing each space without any restriction."
Endemic plants were chosen for the courtyard landscaping
The 750-square-metre residence features a perimeter wall built from Texcal volcanic stone, the same stone as that of the nearby El Tepozteco mountain.
The house's structure is made from Durango pine, which was also used for interior beams and poles, while huanacaxtle wood was chosen for the latticework and finishes in the house.
Rozana Montiel pairs wood and stone for lush garden home outside Mexico City
"The decision to work with local materials respond to the architectural dialogue the project establishes with the town of Tepoztlán, the mountain (El Tepozteco) and landscape, the climate and the vegetation," Martinez said.
La Hacienda Jardín's ground floor holds four bedrooms, as well as the kitchen and numerous areas that open up to the courtyard for combined indoor and outdoor socialising in the temperate climate.
Durango pine and huanacaxtle wood give the interiors a warm feel
Upstairs, the main bedroom overlooks the courtyard. The first floor also has living space next to the bedroom.
The courtyard features a sunken seating area and is planted with greenery suitable for the region.
"The architectural program questions the area's predominant practice of first fencing off a property and then inserting a building and landscaping the rest," Práctica Arquitectura said.
The house has solar panels and is irrigated by water catchment systems
"This project does the opposite; it becomes a roofed wall open to the elements that contains a garden of endemic vegetation in its centre," the studio added.
Wooden lattices and pergolas were used to create an open feel and a "play of light and shadows", while the roof over the courtyard was designed to frame views of the Tepozteco mountain.
Much of the house opens up to the exterior
Práctica Arquitectura added sustainable elements to La Hacienda Jardín, such as solar panels for its electricity and drainage with a controlled septic tank.
The residence also has irrigation from water catchment systems, as well as natural absorption wells.
Other recent projects in Tepoztlán include HGR Arquitectos' Casa Texcal, a holiday home formed of intersecting gabled volumes, and a wood-and-stone garden home by Rozana Montiel.
The photography is by César Béjar and Oscar Hernández.
quirk:   aura manipulation, the usage of the energy with subtle, luminous radiation of multiple colors that surrounds a person or object that may, in its purest form take on qualities of elements.
☾   her current quirk lies as unstable.  easy when it comes to implanting life and wills into her figurines, other items and to be projected but unreliable in regards to its physical presence in battle. it is the spiritual counterpart to her brother’s quirk: chi manipulation. ☾   aura also referenced as chakra and spirit energy has seven branches of colors: red for the physical nature of the body, orange is emotion, yellow is willpower, green is healing, blue is intelligence, indigo is mental communication / synchronization, and violet is heightened awareness of being. ☾     the basic and almost “passive” / constantly active capabilities of such a quirk is that one is always sensitive to all energies and an become overwhelmed by them if their own is not strong enough. detection / locating targets are just as easy. ☾   in the purest use / CONTROL each aura may leave affects of elements though not turn into them phyhsically:  red is earth, orange is ice, yellow is fire, green is air, blue is electricity, indigo may be associated with darkness and violet with gravity or the lack thereof. ☾   reynn’s mother showed control of one’s green, blue, yellow and violet energy. reynn herself only shows bursts of orange, red, blue and yellow. ☾   the most go to of reynn’s auras is red and the most unstable is orange. ☾     the basis of this quirk and auras granted rely upon the growth and temperment of the person until age 13. where certain ones comes “naturally” and the rest must be acquired through training if possble. ☾   emotions dictate the collateral impact reynn will have, and so it is best to help keep them managable. the more out of control she is mentality and emotionally, the more dangerous it is to be within range. ☾    SHE PREFERS the tactic to rely on imbuing figurines to take close combat and using what she can projct as an offensive support role. it leaves her at the mercy of hard hitting and high endurance quirks that can break through the distance.
tl;dr    stay the fuck back 70% of the time. unless you can calm her down. then do that.
HISTORY. once more put in short summarizing bullet points until i have time to type it out.
☾    parents are deceased. more than likely heroes themselves at some point in a different country but the trauma is 90% of the reason reynn’s abilities are so unmanagable. she cannot get past the grief and self inflicted guilt of their demise. ☾     the other 10% lies in living more for her brother than herself.  it leads to neglect of her own needs and self care, due to the fear of losing him next and how he chooses to cope.  ☾    honestly just needs a hug and some good old support. ☾    anger is the most felt emotion when upset. due to it all just merging into frustration or unsure hesitancy, building up and adding to pent up force in turn triggering orange in explosive bursts. ☾    honest to god she’s probably been transferred into class 1-A from her original place in 1-B sheerly for the fact aizawa can negate her ass and put her in a corner. limits school destruction and repairs. ☾     so she meditates. a lot. it actually helps her focus and self control.
Content warning: suicide
Had a conversation a while ago with a person I know is very quick of thought, which made me perhaps biased too much towards giving his ideas serious consideration. I disagree with them, but in a state of some thought fuzziness, so not yet having cleared those ideas. Not that they are new - he suggested primarily that people getting to "choose" their gender creates suffering, based on an underlying idea of people in general becoming unhappy from too much choice.
This was suggested based on anecdotal studies on suicide rates rising in societies where careers-as-choices replaced careers-as-inherited. I have heard similar ideas and anecdata from another very smart person in the past. Of course, I also seem to recall studies saying these rates are correlated with self-assessed happiness ratings. These would then indicate that in a society ripe with happiness and self-actualization, there people who do not feel they reach the expected happinesses, they will feel relatively worse off, and some will take their lives as a result. I suspect strongly these are the same phenomena, and that would suggest the issue is not with choice itself, but with having to make a choice under limited information, with perhaps limits to one's possibility of realizing one's choice, fear of failing to, and some trying and failing. That is, a situation of choice one is not given the tools to make well is stressful. This may follow implicitly from some situations of wide choice all on its own, but it need not. Nor do I see so many of us claiming that it would be better to go back to a caste system, or to arranged marriages.
(It makes every sense to give people tools to make decisions easier, give them help in finding paths, realizing them, and in coping with failures including by finding other paths, in many areas of life. But that is tangential.)
Second then concerns how applicable any of this is to gender. That one whom I spoke with wanted to make a case how sexual orientation - being things one does - is easier to have to make choices on than gender identity - things one is. That separation would seem to imply he considered gendered behaviours and roles being something that should not be such a problem having to choose from, leaving the argument remaining only on the more fundamental label/body aspects of gender identity. If we accept that for the moment, then the comparison becomes remote though? Because we are very far from a situation where a person is asked or expected to make a choice of their body/label gender-wise. There are always expectations on that, and they are sometimes very severe - certainly they are at least as pervasive even than those put on a medieval person to follow their parents' life paths. Making a different choice, if choice it is, entails sustained active decisions against opposition.
Would reducing those pressures cause harm? If we remove those pressures (and that was what he may have been thinking of) by telling young children they get to decide what they want even in this regard, then would worrisome stresses result, or decisions be made which were regretted? Then this ends up in essentially the whole young transitioner question (along with whether or not adult transitioners like myself should stay hidden so we do not influence the young too much...). Here our conversation did end in concluding there is no real data; that is, we have no reason to believe more children from Swedish gender-neutral daycare either will transition, or will experience any sort of stressful confusion. I'm inclined to say there should not be much impact. We don't "choose" gender of identification by weighing alternatives, nor do we usually stress over making a choice. For most that choice is instinctual and trivial to make, and it becomes an issue only if others do not accept it.
Can I know that a much more progressive society still would not cause decision paralysis and stress over gender identity? I cannot be certain, but I'm highly doubting it would. If it would, I'm quite convinced that when weighing for scale of suffering, the harm done for those who have the wrong decision made for them is higher than the harm done from such stress even inflicted on a larger population. Moreover, there are more than two possible policies - one can provide choice and guidance in making that choice, for example.
Having said all that, I am not sure my company wanted to limit the concept of gender identity to body/label only; he may have thought also of gender roles as something that it is stressful to have to choose. In other words, a model wherein a more strictly gender stereotyped society made for clearer expectations and guidance in choices within those realms, again reducing decision paralysis and stress over having to choose. This is still not a scenario I really am seeing. Young people build identities in larger spaces of variability still, and they do so by modeling peers and elders, preferentially same-sex ones. I have previously said I now believe the latter factor has a biological basis, perturbed in trans people. But given that, it seems like not even breaking down the stereotype blocks would prevent such model learning; children would still learn from same-sex models, only they would learn a more diverse set of behaviours, less stereotyped.
Is there any evidence whatsoever for such a conservative conception that reduced-stereotype societies would have young people more confused, suffering from the decision of a wider variety of gendered role models to follow? Some may believe it, but where would we see this data, and how would we deconfound it from the happiness-vs-suicide model above? Considering the examples of claimed-egalitarian societies like Denmark, there certainly is not an overall clear happiness decrease with this. Perhaps one can find such data somewhere, but from what I have available, I don't see that breaking down the gender stereotypes would cause relevant suffering in this manner, although plenty of ways in which it would reduce suffering in other regards (including, of course, the experiences of gender non-conforming people). So whether the reasoning is taken for labels/body or for roles, in neither case do I fear significantly that a society taking my progressivism all the way would harm its people more than it would help them.
It ends up being a projection of two types of utility monsters. The one, that person who somehow will become sad and rootless unless being told externally what gender they are, or by having their own claims in the matter overridden, or by seeing the claims of others to be overridden. The other, the person who transitions and regrets, but who would not if their gender had more harshly been denied by those around them. I think that if either exists, they are very rare, and the total impact as I count it of their suffering still less than that of those who would have much sadder lives under conditions that could satisfy the utility monsters. No hints of systematic evidence of the existence of either was offered during the conversation yesterday, only speculation on the hypothetic possbility of the former and two personal anecdotes on the latter. Despite the person saying these things being quick of mind, there then is no real reason to think these things happen enough to matter.
All of that be that further as it may, because I would transition anyway. I do this first and foremost for me, because I need to be someone my brain lets me be happy being. I can let myself matter in this regard. Beyond that, I maintain it is best if we change this world in every way I can. More data may be needed to be absolutely sure, but I don't think we need to wait for it.
Today in Little Known Historical Figures there should be a Movie about: Al-Hakam the 2nd and his court
I can’t believe I never knew this guy existed! Let’s summarize:
 Openly Gay Maurish Caliph who had a harem of men
Big Science nerd, said to spend a lot of time on scientific pursuits to the point of neglecting earthly pleasures and had a huge ass library
Was so famous for his patronage of the sciences that science books were being dedicated to him all the way in persia
Made peace with the christrian kingdoms
expanded agriculture by building better irrgation systems
improved economy through innovation
Had ancient greek works translated into arabic & thus aided in their preservation. Peacefully worked with catholics to that end. (The rennaissance was kicked off by the reconquista when arab translations of greek texts were found by Franks.)
Employed several badass generals and a female mathematician named Lubna of Corboda as his private secretary, who could be a cool side character and add a “bromance” aspect to the story. She excelled in the most complex algebraic and geometric documents of the time She was also famous for her poetry! My kind of gal.
Also employed Abu Al-Qasim Al-Zahrawi, sometimes considered the greatest physician of the middle ages, who invented tons of surgery tools. His innovative works remained the state of the art for 500 years. Plus he had a famously serious, commanding and uppity smartass writing tone so there’s a personality for you! Dare I say “Te auxillary”?
Too Few people know about the islamic imperial high period with its love of math science weed welfare and freedom (for its day), especially people making blanket statements about muslims or thinking little history happened outside “christendom” and its direct predecessors. You could cram so much little known history into this!
Late in life he had 2 kids (on of whom died) by a christian concubine who held a lot of sway in politics and dressed in men’s clothes. There is no way to confirm or deny any of these because we can’t exactly ask long dead people, but for a fictional version,  there are 3 interesting possbilities here:
He was not wholly gay but “homoflexible” and they were a badass politician lady. The clothing was meant to make coutiers pay attention to her
He was 100% gay and it was a pragmatic union but he valued their intelligence (they were still a badass politician lady); She possibly dressed as a guy to win his attention as a smart move
The caliph was 100% gay, but the “concubine” was, in fact a trans guy. Hence why the caliph reffered to him as “Jafar”. This is my favorite because of the “loophole” character how it subverts the “the king must make a heir, but most men can’t make you a baby” dilemma. Since you already have a “badass woman” role in the math lady you might as well tick another box.
Heck I might write this book myself one day  it just has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and relevance, though it would take much research and it wouldn’t be until in the very far future because of my current backlog of projects. History isn’t really my genre and though I have great affinity with the sciency and booky themes therein, I am a frankish (as in central-european) atheist, so I will tell this story differently than a muslim would.
I’d really like to see a muslim (or ex-muslim, but raised in the culture) feminist science nerd and/or LBGTQIA person tell it from their perspective as someone who can connect with the culture on an internal level and won’t risk sounding like a preachy outsider.
Dunkirk
Tumblr media
One of the biggest critical and economic successes of the year, dubbed as a historical and war movie, is neither historical or a war movie. This is because 1) there is no proper description of a context and no reflexion on the reason why Germany did not attack the 400.000 English soldiers stuck on the Dunkirk’s beach; 2) there is simply not enough war going on, but mostly wait punctuated by shootings.
The movie represents the Operation Dynamo of spring 1940, when the English Crown succesfully retrieved almost 400.000 (so, the entirety) English soldiers stuck on the French beach of Dunkirk.The Germans were very close by, and did not intervene. The Operation Dynamo was possible thanks to civilians and patriots who used their own private boats to help retrieving their countrymen. The Crown and the military did far less-
The movie is divided in three geographical zones and in three timelines, not in a chronological order. We have the pier, the sky and the see. They are intertwined together, so at times they will spoiler what happens next, or come back to the event but from another perspective. This adds frustration and a sense of melancholia in the viewer. We know that the English soldiers were saved and that they later helped winning the war, but we will still see gruesome events, and feel committed to the movie.
Nolan is English and yet he doesn’t portray the English soldiers as heroes or their gestures as heroic. In the beginning we will see a soldier stealing clothes from a dead one, but there will be other examples. There is no adulation for generals either. Kenneth Branagh’s character is helpless, and can’t save anyone. The usual English humor is here fully omitted.
However, Nolan is an Hollywood director too, and in the last 10 minutes he makes a big mistake from a grammatical point of view: he changes the style and the meaning of the movie. Heroism and rhetoric as the soldiers have returned home pop in unexpectedly, and there is a renewed fanfare. This is helped by the fact that Nolan does not explain why the Germans did not attack the English in their most vulnerable moment. Sure, you will see some aircrafts shooting the herd from time to time, but this is simply toying. They could’ve done much worse, but Nolan wants us to think that they English earned their salvation when instead it was mostly given away. As in Hollywood, Nolan bends history to his needs.
(Historical note: it is unknown why Hitler did not attak the stranded English soliders, as ufficial papers were never found, but there is general consensus between historians that Hitler liked the English, and that he wanted to share the world with them. He also expected to surrender anyway).
(Second historical note: Dunkirk is an Englush obsession. It is essentially the last military defeat in Europe, and seen as one of the lowest points of the then-Empire history. This is because the English like their wars, surely more than Italians for example, who dont’ give much of a damn anyway. This to say that the lack or rhetoric for the first 3/4 of the movie from Nolan is to be admired, yet he cannot help himself in the end but to tickle an old nationalism).
This is a mistake precisely because Dunkirk till that moment is devoid of rhetoric, emphasis on death, heroism, focus on heroes or their enemies. Most characters in the movies do not have -outspoken- names, and have no particular quality. They are not invincible and not pure. They are desperate souls and that’s the only element designed to have us sympathise with them. When they die because of the bombs or drowned, they simply do. Nolan is magnificent in showing death’s void.
Moreover, the Germans will never be seen in the face. When some of them die in the skies, you kinda project the aircraft as an empty box falling in the Channel. Maybe it was even empty from the beginning. The enemy is the English here, who will do the worst acts in the movie (bullying, threatening, murder, etc.). The role of a sick soldier (Cillian Murphy), stuck in a kafkian situation, is possbly the best thing in the movie.
Conceptually, the movie is thus divided in two bits: one, longer and Kubrick-like (consider Paths of Glory but also Full Metal Jacket). The second is shorter more Spielberg-like, and there are no more different directors when it comes to war movies.
Technically-wise, the movie is magnificent. It has best audio department you’ll hear in years. The weaponry/mediums reconstruction is fully on top. Nolan shoots perfectly, nothing to add here.
The cast is thought to be in the last degree of importance, yet it does its share of work. Tom Hardy as an aviator, Kenneth Branagh as the commander in chief, James D’Arcy as his right-arm, Cillian Murphy as a stranded solider, Mark Rylance as a patriot, Fionn Whitehead as the protagonist and Harry Styles (One Direction) as an English solider make the cast. And countless of extras. Also, the cast is age-appropriate, unlike in Saving Private Ryan. Soldiers are young, officials older.
Hans Zimmer music is for once pitch perfect, and I am enthusiastic of the photography of Hoyte von Hoytema.
In the end, this is a really good movie that betrays himself in the end. Nevertheless, it is so wise technically that this does not constitute a big problem, and the cinematic experience will be unforgettable and will defenitely make sense to repeat it.
Vote: 8/10.
