yknow what i absolutely love about dghda? how socially unaware all the former blackwing subjects are. like these guys have no clue what to do in normal society and that absolutely makes sense
dirk is the most well adjusted out of all of the ones we know of and even he climbs into this random guy's apartment through the window, immediately calls him his assistant and then declares that he lives there now. he's clueless. he wants friends but he doesn't know how to talk to people, even after 16 years lived in freedom
and then there's bart and the rowdy 3
bart doesn't know how radios and tvs work, nor what hotels are. all she's known her whole life is blackwing labs and the fact that she's supposed to kill people. so that's what she does. she doesn't know how to talk to people, she just goes with the flow
and of course the rowdy 3, the absolute icons. unlike dirk, who wants to be a part of society, and bart, who really doesn't care, they actively reject social norms. they saw punk culture and ran with it. they're rude, violent and, well, rowdy. and they like that. but they're also stupid in the way that you would be if you grew up in a lab with (probably) next to no real education. none of them have any functioning braincells or social grace and that works for them
i didn't talk about mona or francis/moloch bc we don't really have a real frame of reference for either of them. mona is an inanimate object 99% of the time and francis has been in a coma for several decades

the tale overflows (it carries your light out to sea)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to be known is to be loved; (and so eternally beloved you become)
Happy nameday, Raginmar!
More context about each character and their relationship with Raginmar below the cut.
Tumblr media
L'vazha Tia and Canso Lechanteur
Members of Viatgers Vuit, an adventuring party consisting of Raginmar and his closest companions. Raginmar and L'vazha are both rogues affiliated with the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss (with L'vazha having extensive reach in the shadows beyond that), while Raginmar and Canso both stood against the Garlean Empire at one point in their past (and paid dearly for it). While their histories and personalities vary greatly – Raginmar is a near-unflappable veteran soldier with quiet, cutting wit; L'vazha is a lord in the criminal underworld masquerading as a friendly, jovial merchant; and Canso is a beguilingly charming former Imperial prisoner–turned–adventurer – the ruthless and cold-blooded pragmatism they all share sets them apart from the rest of the party.
Viatgers Vuit are no strangers to killing. These men murder.
Tumblr media
Adricienne Brookes
Member of Viatgers Vuit. Currently a postmaster affiliated with the Delivery Moogles, Adricienne was briefly a Scion of the Seventh Dawn before setting out to become an adventurer on her own terms. Joining Raginmar in delving into the mysteries of Haukke Manor was what inspired her to leave Gridania to see the world for herself – a decision that has literally broadened her horizons and taken her across the borders of Eorzea and to all corners of the known world, and eventually reconnected her with her long-lost father.
Tumblr media
Regissant Aujouerre and Niko Maimhov
Unaffiliated with Viatgers Vuit, Regissant and Niko are a duo of adventurers who cross paths with Raginmar frequently, beginning from their first adventuring job with Gridania's Carline Canopy, forming a party to investigate the Tam-Tara Deepcroft. Being a Highlander, a Duskwight and a Keeper of the Moon respectively, the trio faced significant prejudice from the Gridanian healer in their party who eventually abandoned them midway through battling the cultists cloistered within the deepcroft – surviving the ordeal fostered a deep bond between them that lasted over years of infrequent meetings in taverns and adventurer guild halls. Similar to Adricienne, it was Raginmar who encouraged the two to leave Gridania and free themselves from the city-state's deeply prejudiced societal shackles, and they have now made a name for themselves across Eorzea and beyond.
Tumblr media
Fionn Airgetlam
Member of the Lemures, a Garlean order dedicated to protecting and supporting Garlean refugees in Eorzea. Fionn is technically one such refugee, having been created as a warmachina as part of the VIIth Imperial Legion's Weapon project – only scaled down to the size of a man and possessing of the Warrior of Light's combat data. Despite the nature of its creation, the warmachina developed sentience and chose to flee his creators, eventually finding himself in Ul'dah where he came face-to-face with the very man he was created to destroy.
He had expected death from the Warrior of Light. He had not expected compassion; it was his extremely timely intervention that saved Fionn and fellow Lemure Arnegis from near-certain death. Raginmar would later outfit Fionn with a new arm, replacing the one that had been destroyed in his fight against the voidsent Orcus, and assist him with gaining entry into the abandoned keep of Dusk Vigil to rescue his mentor Drusilla.
(in another timeline, it would be through his first-hand knowledge of the Weapons project that Raginmar could save Gaius' children from perishing in battle and eventually save Alfonse Baelsar from complete subsummation into the Diamond Weapon)
Tumblr media
Marzanna Branmirasch and Sasariku Nonoriku
Members of Viatgers Vuit. Originally an independent duo of adventurers, Marzanna and Sasariku became part of the party after joining a number of them on a primal-dispatching quest. It would not be after many adventures moons later that they would learn of Marzanna's past as an Imperial scientist and engineer responsible for the horrific deaths of Raginmar's subordinates over ten years ago. Despite the revelation that nearly tore the party apart, Sasariku stood by his friend and first adventuring partner until the very end – to a resolution that only Raginmar and Marzanna know. Their history remains unknown to the others even now.
Marzanna's scene only shows her (stand-in model's) tail because the female Hrothgar is still unreleased in-game as of the creation of this post; maybe one day I'll remake this once Dawntrail releases.
Tumblr media
Kirika Kagutsuchi and Hyllizirn Ahldachtwyn
Members of Viatgers Vuit – the very first members, in fact: Kirika, Hyllizirn, L'vazha and Raginmar were the initial four members of what would eventually become one of Eorzea's finest adventuring parties, although they began their journey simply as a way to make ends meet in a strange new land. Throughout their adventures, Raginmar remained their steadfast pillar of unwavering support – from guild quests to journeys of self-discovery, internal conflicts and reclamations of honour, there is nobody the Viatgers Vuit trust with their lives more that him.

Some knitting projects I’m really pedantic about getting exactly right, and if something is off I tear it out and start all over. Other projects I just fully roll with it and don’t care. I’m not entirely sure why.
I’m working on this one shawl where I totally did something off so one panel is moss stitch and the other panel is broken rib (because both have a knit only row and then a knit, purl row and I got my knit, purl rows mixed up somehow) and rather than tearing it out and doing that section again I went “eh it’s fine” and kept going. I think it’s partly because this shawl is for me not a gift, and partly because it’s more of a meditative exercise than it is about Creating A Thing. Like I am very much creating a thing and invested in having that thing when I’m done too, but the process of this one is a lot more important to me than usual. It is a fairly simple pattern, so there’s a lot of “knit a row, purl a row” and the rhythm is so peaceful to me. I like it.
Here’s the bit I messed up, you can see how the texture of the grey band is different on the two panels.
Tumblr media
I like it though. I decided to keep it.
It’s a great pattern this is the whole shawl so far:
Tumblr media
It’s going to be extremely cozy and blankety when it’s finished. I’m using Briggs&Little Sport in Mulberry, Smoke, and Seafoam. (Seafoam is a wild choice to name that last colour since it is not even remotely close to any of the pastel green shades that normally get called seafoam. It’s dark blue with grey tones. I’d call it slate more than seafoam. Although unlike most seafoam greens, it does look like the oceans and large lakes that I’m familiar with.)
I’m using the Marzanna Shawl pattern by Nat Raedwulf, Wolf and Faun Knits. It’s a paid pattern on found on Ravelry.

Old Lammas blessings
Tumblr media
The Prologue
It’s a fairly well known fact that early Christians gradually replaced many major goddess cults with Mariolatry, with shrines and temples of Mary being built on their old worship sites. As a result you can find quite a few Slavic pagans speculating that the incredible popularity of Mary in Poland has it’s roots in the earlier cult of a pagan goddess.
The principle candidate named is Marzanna (Morana), for which the main explanation I’ve seen are two quotes by Aleksander Bruckner and Maciej Stryjkowski. Aleksander Bruckner, pointed out in his etymological dictionary of Polish language that Poles used the name „Marza” instead of „Maria” untill XVIth century and only stopped due to pressure from the Church, leaving us with merely a few remnants of the old form present in the toponyms such as Świętomarza (eng. Holy Marza) and possibly names of herbs such as marzymięta, marzana barwierska and marzana/maruna (respectively elsholtzia, rubia tinctorum and chrysanthemum parthenium). The second quote is from Maciej Stryjowski’s 1582 Kronika Polska, Litewska, Żmudzka i wszystkiej Rusi (Chronicle of Poland, Lithuania, Samogitia and all of Ruthenia) where he writes that according to another Polish chronicler Wincenty Kadłubek, there was once a great and expensive temple to Marzana in Gniezno, to which people in time of harvest brought in a tithe of various grain in exchange asking for abundance in the coming year. Unfortunately Wincenty Kadłubek never wrote anything like this so we have no idea where Stryjkowski got that from.
While we can probably come up with some other possible connections to inspect (association with apples, Our Lady of the Opening of Fields on 25th of March vaguely corresponding to the drowning of Marzana, who according to folk songs sung on this occasion also opens the fields etc etc.) the truth is that the foundations for the theory in question are at best very shaky.
Still, being familiar with some of those hypotheses, for the longest time I thought it might be fun to celebrate Marzanna in her harvest aspect during Our Lady of Herbs holiday, and take the time to read up on and explore the possible syncretism between the two as a sort of devotional project. So that’s what I’m doing this year.
Tumblr media
Honey Feast of the Savior
The three spas days aren’t celebrated in Poland, however having been invited to participate in the blessing of honey by the one and only @graveyarddirt I decided to give it a shot. Suddenly I remembered two jars of fancy flavored honey (mint and cinnamon), that were gifted to me some months ago by my dear mother, and that were currently standing forgotten in the darkest corner of the pantry.
Having already established that Monday will be devoted to Marzanna I decided to devote my Sunday to getting to know Jarowit/Jaryło, her rumoured partner and another deity connected with agricultural cycle and fertility of nature.
“Hear what I say. I am your god. I am he who covers the fields with grain and the forests with leaves; the fruit of the fields and the trees, the offspring of the livestock, and everything that is enjoyed by men are in my power. I give them to my worshipers and take them from those who scorn me.”
- Dialog on the Life of Saint Otto of Bamberg by Herbord translation from Sources of pre-Christian Slavic religion red. J.A. Álvarez-Pedrosa
Our Lady of Herbs
I spend most of the day trying to read up on Mariolatry and connections between pre-Christian Slavic figures and popular Saints. Then, in accordance with a long standing Polish tradition I gathered the herbs that are of greatest importance to our homestead (ie. tea) and blessed them. Unfortunately my grandfather’s dried black currant leaves did not get to me on time, exactly as predicted. Nonetheless it ended up being one of the most beautiful rituals I ever performed.
Tumblr media
The epilogue - honey tasting
I wasn’t sure what to expect of mint honey. I certainly was imagining it a lot stronger and more mentholy than it actually turned out - no doubt because most of the minty snacks I try these days are pretty heavy handed with the menthol. However it immediately became obvious to me that this baby relies solely on the actual dried mint in it and not on any additional artificial flavoring. The result tastes like a very sweet mint tisane - oddly warming rather than cooling. Unfortunately the texture is unpleasantly grainy, a necessary consequence of including significant amount of crushed herb. It’s very dark and very thick, remaining perfectly solid even though it’s been extremely hot in my apartment lately. The scent is rather medicinal and I probably would not be able to guess that it’s honey I’m smelling. This jar is in all likeliness going to end up used as tea sweetener, for which it’s perfect, adding hints of both sweetness and freshness. We might at some point gather the courage to experiment with a honeyed-herbal marinade. I’m giving it 6/10 for now because the texture is killing me and I am simply never putting it on a sandwich, ever.
The cinnamon honey is less thick and solid, but also quite dark. Maybe I’d mind the tiny cinnamon particles more if I haven’t tried the mint flavored one first. It’s still a little grainy but much more pleasant. It smells rich and sumptuous, with easily discernable, almost waxy, honey notes. It tastes pretty much like a cinnamon roll with icing and to be perfectly honest I could probably just eat it straight out of the pot like the rat that I am, if I didn’t expect it to be even better with butter on some chałka. Definitely perfect for cakes and desserts. I imagine it would do wonderfully in masala chai. 10/10
UPDATE: The cinnamon honey is STELLAR with my morning coffee.

Night on Bald Mountain Movie
So I found out that the Night on Bald Mountain music piece has an actual opera-ballet attached to it, and got a little obsessed with making some character concepts for a hypothetical ani aged movie expansion of the short in Fantasia. I’m adapting my movie idea from the original to make it fit more how a hypothetical old Renaissance Disney movie might work, so it doesn’t match up the plot exactly but here we go.
Our heroine is Princess Mlada, a king and empathetic girl who tries to help the people of her kingdom that suffers from the rule of her uncle, Mstiovy, who is acting as her regent and abusing his powers, but his tyranny pales to the terror the people feel living in the shadow of the Bald Mountain, and the evil tales that surround it, especially as Walpurgis Night approach’s.
Tumblr media
Mlada’s love interest is the young Prince Yaromir of a neighboring kingdom, who Mlada has been secretly communicating with thru letters, to try and find aid for her people and freedom from her uncle. Yaromir travels to Mlada’s kingdom in disguise to meet with her finally face to face—however there is a snag in the lover’s plan…
Tumblr media
Mlada’s Cousin Princess Voyslava, has been secretly reading Mlada and Yaromir’s correspondence, and having seen the prince in real life when younger, covets him for herself. Determined to have the prince, she concocts a plan with her handmaiden, Mara, (who has also helped her steal the letters), to get Mlada out of the way…
Tumblr media
Mara, it is revealed, is actually the witch Morena, who serves the dark god Chernabog. Using her magic she tricks Mlada into accepting a cursed ring, under the illusion that it is being offered by Yaromir. The ring sends Mlada into a state between life and death, leaving Voyslava to take her place and decieve the prince. (I know the actual goddess Morena/Marzanna is more ‘morally grey’ and connected to a life death cycle then evil but she was connected with the villains in the opera)
Tumblr media
Trapped in a ghostly form, Mlada will need to discover the secrets of her cousin’s treachery, warn Yaromir, lead him to where her body lies trapped in a deathly sleep in a cave on the Bald Mountsin, and help him maneuver between the ghosts and demons that guard her—all before the midnight of Walpurgis Night, when Chernabog will rise…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, that’s my idea! The original opera- ballet is called “Mlada” and was created by Stephan Gedeonov in 1870 with music by Alessandro Serov, with the Night on Bald Mountain segement by Modest Mussorgsky to be inserted into it, but unfortunately this version of the project was never realized, though a finished version of the opera with a different composition was staged in 1890 by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
( I know the original date of the Night on Bald Mountain is St. John’s Eve, but I changed it to Walpurgis Night as I based Mara/Morena off the old ‘Witch of Walpurgis’ from the original Haunted Mansion/The Mistress of Evil from the unrealized Museum of the Weird idea, as I always try to pull in actual Disney stuff when I can when I craft hypothetical movie ideas)

M285 - Working Title.docx for WIP Wednesday please!
Thank you thank you so much for the ask! This is my currently most immediate project - it's an original sci-fi novel, in which the main character is part of a small team investigating a mass disappearance at a research outpost on a frozen deep-space planet.
This is from chapter 8, be it thrice accursed. You caught it during a rather emotional scene, so it's a little more than three sentences. I got carried away <3
I ran my thumb over his cheek and felt him flinch.
There was a lump in my throat.
“Benjamin,” I managed. Begged. Hell, I was seconds from falling to my knees. “Look at me.”
For a beat, the silence was absolute.
Then our eyes met, and the air exploded.
Granted, that may not be the most accurate term for what had happened – but I hope you’ll forgive my layman’s interpretation of it all. Our minds are not designed to process the sort of storms that raged across Marzanna day after day. The one that crashed into the complex that night was recorded by the Fujiwara and digitally preserved for further study – but the bare data can never come close to describing what it was like to stand in its very epicentre, no matter how much it’s picked apart. My skin was crawling with needles and my brain was on fire; that’s all I can remember. I guess it’s difficult for memories to form when your blood is rushing in your ears – echoing the beat of some infernal drum.

It seems like Bart has never had chance to interact with other subjects (based on s1e02, when she mentioned blackwing. maybe blackwing didn’t wanna take the risk of other subjects being killed or something?) the thought that little Bart being alone all the time makes me so sad……
btw I am preparing for an important exam, so I probably won’t post much before June ;;

Hello, I am alive and rewatching Dirk Gently with new friends (had to introduce them to the show). We’re on S2E3 and I keep having those tiny little thoughts about the big something.
Here’s  some of them:
- Todd and Amanda work like a battery. One’s the negative pole and the other one the positive. Input and output of energy. Redirecting it and transforming it.
- Holistics exist on both sides, the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’. “Whatever this thing is, it doesn’t pick sides.” They might even be the main force that move things in the universe, the most important gearwheels as one might say. I believe that for every Dirk solving cases, there’s a Dirk causing cases. For every Bart ‘cleansing’ the path that the holistics will have to take to ensure their safety (without knowing it) there’s a Mr. Priest trying to kill them.
- Friedkin’s new job in the fabric of reality is to lead the holistics to where they need to go. They, as Priest phrased it, are his weapons and he’s the one who has to pull the trigger. Friedkin now sees everything, he somewhat knows how things work. He’s got to keep the balance between everything and the holistics are his weapons to do so. Friedkin is neither good nor bad, he’s everything and nothing. Just like he did with Ken he leads the holistics to where they need to go, where they need to take their shot. He tries his best but the universe works in mysterious ways and he doesn’t always understand it. Ken asked to leave the car, so Friedkin let him out of the car but left him inside the cell. A misunderstanding. But he still provided Ken with the things he needed to follow his path. (Might rewatch the scene later and unpack it more organized).
- Season 3 would’ve been sci-fi, the main focus on magic car fixing robots. Too many mentions of car fixing stuff and way too many cars in S2 for it to be a coincidence. I’m thinking that maybe there was an UFO with robots and it landed in a lake. Robots can’t get into the water, can’t fix the UFO so instead they fix cars. Smart and lethal children got a hold of the robots and use it to help their family who owns a car repair shop thingy. The UFO or the code name for the mission may be Atlantis and the UFO is “The lost city of gold”. Far fletched, I know. It’s just an idea.
- Season 3 would have ended with Bart going to space in the UFO, together with the kids. “The only constant is me and gravity.” - Not anymore. She doesn’t want to kill people anymore - not possible in space. Oh, and Todd would die. Not a permanent thing though. It’s the Mexican Funeral after all. Season 4 would have been within the supernatural/paranormal genre and we already had mentions of ghost Estevez. I don’t know if the story would be about getting Todd back/ghost Todd/resurrecting him or something (maybe he’s in Valhalla?) or if his death is even part of the plot, not just a clue for what’s about to happen. The thing I’m remotely sure about is: After reuniting with Dirk during the magic car fixing robot case, Assistent would take Todd’s place - because Todd isn’t there anymore, reason unclear.
- Ken maybe tries to build a gigantic unlimited energy device, with the holistics as the gearwheels/power source. I’m not sure if it’s a literal machine (for which he might need the help of genius children?) or just a description for his network of unlimited power sources, aka the holistics, which he can control, send out, call back and thus cause an imbalance.
- And of course Amanda as the leader of the holistics. I love how season 1 already it, the way the Rowdy3 instinctively followed Amanda around in their van.
(- What if in S4 Dirk explored the Death of his own parents?)
That’s it so far. I’ll keep you updated during the last episodes of the rewatch.

WoL Question of the Day #171
which job questlines do you consider 'canon' for your wol/oc? do they play out as they do ingame, or are some parts altered for your character's story? Nov 14, 2022
In Raginmar's case, ACN→SMN/SCH, RDM and MCH are canon. GNB and ROG differ a little in that he's already a trained gunbreaker and rogue; for GNB he rehoned his skills while travelling with Radovan and Sophie, while for ROG he just got caught up in the Rogues' Guild's shenanigans.
The latter situation is pretty much the case for most of them, tbh! Hyllizirn, Canso, L'vazha and Marzanna, as newcomers to Eorzea, already have varying degrees of combat knowledge so they're not absolute beginners like the job questlines typically paint the WoL as, so most of the job questlines, for them, are canonical in terms of PLOT only with a few alterations i.e. Hyllizirn making a name for herself as part of the Marauders' Guild, Canso bypassing the ARC questline and seeking out Jehantel on his own, L'vazha reuniting with Musosai etc.
That's only the case for the adventuring party, though. For the auxiliary party, only the doppelgänger has a true canonical job questline in RPR. Lunamara's not a combat-trained BRD, while she learned the Kriegstanz from Canso and studied red magery under Arya, not X'rhun Tia. Valeria, similarly, left Garlemald after the Final Days and studied at the Arcanists' Guild before becoming interested in the Nymian Scholars' ability to heal and protect, and learned SCH from Setoto Seto with the occasional consultation from Surito CaritoValeria, similarly, left Garlemald after the Final Days and studied at the Arcanists' Guild before becoming interested in the Nymian Scholars' ability to heal and protect, and learned SCH from Setoto Seto with the occasional consultation from Surito Carito.
I really like that question because the entire reason I made my OCs is to explore the different job questlines and see if I could tie them to the characters' story and lore, and it's been such a fun project so far. I'll dive into this more when I set up the lore page properly!
