It was the day of the big championship game. The entire school, or at least most of it, was stoked. Hawkins High hadn’t won a championship in ages, but this year was going to be different. The basketball team was amazing, the band was awesome, and the cheerleaders were impeccable. You were biased though, being a cheerleader yourself. But you knew how hard you and the rest of the cheer squad had worked on all the routines and you just had a good feeling about this game.
While you may have been in high spirits, your best friend Chrissy Cunningham wasn’t doing very well. She had been telling you for the past few days how bad she had been feeling and the horrible headaches she was getting. You knew she was taking tylenols but they weren’t helping. And nothing would help with her nightmares. You offered to spend the night with her whenever they first began but she declined, not wanting to bother you. You really didn’t mind, you just wanted your friend to be okay.
“Chrissy?” you asked, waiting outside the bathroom stall. You were walking down the hall with her when she rushed into the bathroom and promptly locked herself in a stall. She didn’t answer but you could hear her gagging and sniffling. The door to the bathroom opened and you saw a redhead walk into the bathroom with headphones around her neck. You had seen her around before but couldn’t remember her name. You smiled awkwardly at her while Chrissy continued to barf in the stall.
“Is she okay?” the redhead asked.
“Um- no not really,” you said.
You heard some shuffling in the stall and then heard Chrissy say, “Who is it?”
You looked at the girl and waited for her to say her name. “Oh it’s- it’s Max. Max Mayfield.”
Max. You had heard of her before. She was Billy Hargroves little sister. You didn’t know him very well, just what everyone said about him and how he died in the mall fire last year.
Chrissy heard Max say what her name was, and you guessed that Chrissy didn’t care since she didn’t reply. Or at least you thought she wasn’t but after a very guttural sounding puke she said, “Could you please leave?”
You looked at Max expectantly. Usually you wouldn’t tell people to leave the bathroom but you knew your friend was struggling and probably embarrassed. She nodded and started walking out the door and you followed. “I’m going to get some water Chrissy, okay? I’ll be back in a minute.”
You and Max walked out into the hall. She lingered for a second and appeared like she wanted to ask you something. She didn’t though, and instead just gave you a small smile and walked off. You went to the vending machine down the hallway and stuck some quarters in it. Clink, clink, clink. They fell to the bottom of the slot. You pressed C1 for water and watched as the metal swirls let the bottle drop down to the opening at the bottom of the vending machine. You pushed open the piece to get the water and started heading back to the bathroom.
It was silent. You tilted yourself down just a little and saw that Chrissy was still in the stall, but she wasn’t moving or making any noise. “Chrissy?” you asked.
No answer. “Chrissy?” You shifted your weight back and forth between your feet. “Chrissy, are you okay in there?” you repeated one more time. Still no answer. You checked to make sure the other stalls were empty before going into the stall next to hers and getting on your hands and knees. The floor was absolutely disgusting but that didn’t matter right then. You crawled under the stall and into Chrissy’s.
She was sitting there, totally unmoving other than her eyes. Her eyelids were twitching and all you could see was the white part of her eyeballs. “Chrissy!” you exclaimed. You waved your hand in front of her face but she didn’t seem aware, or present at all. You grabbed a hold of her shoulders and shook her. You were starting to panic. In a situation like that you had no idea what to do. Was she having a seizure? Was she in shock? You had no idea.
“Chrissy! Chrissy please,” you pleaded. “Come on, come on, say something! It’s okay! I’m here.”
Suddenly she gasped, and her eyes went back to normal. She was shaking all over and her eyes darted around like crazy.
“Oh Chrissy,” you said, wrapping your arms around her. “What happened? Are you okay?”
“I- I don’t know what that was…” she trembled. “I was here but it was different and…”
“Do you need to go home? I can take you to the nurse. Or we can just skip. I’ll drive you.”
She shook her head. “No, no. I’ll be fine. I have to talk to the guidance counselor later anyways and today is the big game. I can’t miss it.”
You looked at her for a moment, thinking about protesting but you knew it would be of no use. Chrissy wouldn’t miss the game for anything. Jason, her boyfriend and captain of the basketball team, would be really disappointed if she didn’t come.
“Okay. Just make sure that you tell her about what happened. And here, drink this water.” You handed her the water and waited for her to take a few sips.
She knew you were still worried just by the way you were staring at her. Your eyebrows were creased and you were barely blinking, like if you did she would just vanish into thin air. “I’m fine, okay? I’ll see you at lunch, promise,” Chrissy said. You sighed but relented.
Your classes before lunch passed by in a blur. No one was really focused on the school work. Many were buzzing about the game later, and the celebration that would come afterwards if Hawkins won. You weren’t really thinking about the game. Your mind was on your best friend. “What was that back there?” you thought.
You parked yourself next to Chrissy at your usual lunch table with Jason and his basketball friends. The energy at the table was very consuming as they all chatted animatedly about the upcoming game.
“We’re gonna smoke them,” Chance said. All the other boys agreed. “They’re not going to know what hit them. Isn’t that right, Lucas?” He turned to one of the freshmen at the table. He had been on the bench the entire season, and he was quieter than most basketball players you knew. Especially the ones at your table.
“Yeah, for sure man,” he answered.
From behind you a voice spoke up, catching the attention of most of the cafeteria. It was Eddie Munson.
Eddie was standing up on top of a lunch table saying, “...or parties or a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets!” He directed that towards your table and Jason stood up.
“You want something, freak?” Jason yelled. Eddie smiled and made horns on his head with his hands. Jason gave him a look and muttered, “prick,” as he sat back down.
Eddie was a senior. He had been a senior for a while now, and had failed his last year multiple times. At least that’s what everyone said. You weren’t well acquainted with him at all but you had a class with him. He was talkative and had an outgoing personality, but you didn’t see anything wrong with that.
Almost the entire school considered him a “freak” though because he liked to play Dungeon and Dragons. Personally you didn’t play it, but one of the kids you babysat did. You had heard plenty of stories about how the game made people violent and it was satanic. You thought it was a load of bull. It was just a harmless game.
“Y/N,” Chrissy whispered, getting your attention. You had some pizza in your mouth so you looked at her and raised your eyebrows, letting her know to continue. “I set up a… meeting with Eddie for later today.”
You quirked an eyebrow, showing that you didn’t understand. She looked around anxiously and scooted a little closer. “For… stuff. He sells.” Realization hit you. She was buying drugs. Chrissy was buying drugs. That was something you never thought would happen. Chrissy had always been so straight laced.
You nodded and swallowed your food. “What for?” you asked. You had never done drugs before but knew a couple people who did. Your knowledge of drugs was pretty limited. You knew about the not-so-bad stuff like weed.
“Maybe it’ll help with the headaches. And the nightmares.” She chewed on her lip and looked at you seriously.
“Okay. Be safe though.” You weren’t going to scold her or anything like that. Chrissy was truly struggling and maybe it was worth a try. She let out a breath and shut her eyes for a second. She must have been afraid to tell you. You rubbed her shoulder briefly, causing Jason to look over at you two.
“You okay Chrissy?” he asked. She nodded and smiled at him. She must not be telling him then. Just you.
Hours later you were in the gym, cheering on the basketball team. It was a close game, but you were hopeful that the Hawkins team would pull through and win the championship. The gym was packed full of supporters. It seemed like half the town showed up.
“WOO!” you cheered, waving your pom-poms. There was just a few seconds left on the clock. Jason took the shot, as everyone watched with bated breath. He missed. Your shoulders fell. But then underneath the goal was Lucas, the freshman benchwarmer. He got the ball, took a couple steps back, jumped, and shot. The crowd erupted in cheers. Hawkins had won the championship. The entire basketball team converged on Lucas, hoisting him up on their shoulders and chanting his name.
Later on in the night the gym had cleared out, and the only students left were the basketball players and some cheerleaders in the parking lot. There was plans to go to a well-known place for parties.
“Hey, I’m going to go home and change but I’ll meet you guys there,” Chrissy said. You and Jason nodded and she walked off to her car. You knew that Chrissy wasn’t actually just going home. She was going to Eddie Munson’s house. Apparently he didn’t have what Chrissy wanted with him when they met at school. Jason was unaware of what was going on but you weren’t going to tell him. It wasn’t your place.
The party was hectic and full of alcohol, but you knew your limits. After a few drinks you decided to go home. The next morning you woke up to your mom calling your name. “Y/n! Y/n will you come down here?”
You went down the stairs and went to the living room where your mom and dad were watching the news. You were confused at first then you heard what the reporters were saying. Someone had been murdered last night. Collapsing onto the couch next to your mom, she wrapped her arms around you. She was scared to death of something like that happening to you. After all the death that had plagued Hawkins her worry was entirely warranted. You returned her embrace while she sniffled.
Not too long after you saw that on the news you got a call. “Hello?” you asked.
“Hey y/n it’s Jason.” You raised your eyebrows at who was calling you. He had never called you before, and wouldn’t really talk to you much when you were around him. The only reason you guys were ‘friends’ was because he was Chrissy’s boyfriend. Wait. Chrissy. She never showed up last night to that party. Fear swept over you as Jason continued to talk.
“Did you ever see Chrissy last night? Did you talk to her at all during or after the party?” his voice was urgent as he questioned you. You began to panic.
“Why? Did- Did something happen?” Your voice trembled and your hands shook.
“Listen to me very carefully y/n. I’m guessing you’ve seen the news. Last night Chrissy was… killed.”

SPOILERS
finished the last episode at 2 in the morning 😭 and wow. there were so many twists at the end. i kind of knew that the orderly was going to be number one, but what i wasn’t expecting was him to be Victor Creel’s son, and then find out the Victor Creel’s son is Vecna, THEN see that El was inside Nina. very curious to see what happens in part two though. part one was amazing
isn’t it so amazing!!! i absolutely love the way they pulled everything together to make it seem more like a finale but still left us on a cliffhanger. i’m very glad they didn’t go with eleven being the endgame bad guy and that the 001 thing tied back together with it all AND how they brought that together with nancy in the upside down also…the ending was just so well thought out and left me so so excited for volume 2 💓💓

A Family Sleepover, Down in the Valley
Tumblr media
It’s been about two years since I first wrote Dead Trees Like Lavender Fields, and the town of Bell’s Holler was born. I know it’s not quite the actual anniversary — I’m pretty sure that passed — but I want to celebrate anyway! I’ve missed the Valley, and I’ve missed y’all being a part of the Family. I’m excited to add more stories to the universe, talk lore and what-ifs, and in general get spooky with it.
As such, from now until my birthday on August 19, 2023, I am opening up my inbox to all manner of Valley-related things, including the following:
Seven Sentence Somedays: Send em an ask with a fluffy, smutty, or hurt/comfort prompt of your choice + any CE, SebStan, or other character listed below. You might just get a lore drop or bring out hidden ideas for a Valley-related story!
Hainted Headcanons: Got questions about  the true name of Bell’s Holler or what it really means to be Green? Wanna know about your favorite Babe and who they are in the Valley — Agent of the Inner Dark, Guardian of the Gren, or somethin’ more besides? Curious about each story’s individual Reader and who they might be? Send an ask! Hainted Headcanons are more in-depth explorations of the world this Alternate Appalachia and the people living and shaping it.
Moodboard Minin’: If you know me, you know I love a good Moodboard and you know I love an excuse to make ‘em. Send me a request and I’ll put together a moodboard for a possible Valley-verse story, or even an alternate story for an existing Valley character!
Asks will be responded to on a rolling basis, to the best of my ability! Thank all of you for being here with me!

Eddie Munson Fic Recommendations
Main Rec Masterlist
@darling-i-read-it
First Couple Days -> you and eddie just started to date and are keeping it a secret
@taiyothewriter
Sex, Drugs and Rock (NSFW) -> you devise a plan to confess your feelings for your best friend Eddie, and things quickly escalate beyond your expectations.
@orpheuseus
Reader is Steve harrington sister and in a relationship with Eddie Munson
@eddie-munsons-sweetheart
Country Girl -> Eddie introduces you to Black Sabbath - and who could've guessed Heavy Metal could be that romantic?
Ceasefire ->  Fighting with Eddie trying to wrestle his vest from his grip cuz you’re doing the laundry and that thing really needs washed but he doesn’t wanna lose the ‘mosh pit smell’
@spideyheart
Love, You Too Edison ->  skipping class with your boyfriend to get high in the woods behind school was your favorite thing to do. but much to eddie’s dismay, this time around didn’t involve heated make-out sessions and heartfelt hugs, it was just you pestering him about his full name. your current theory on what it was? edison.
@brenbrennn
Reader being friends with robin and is somehow involved in the upside down stuff and so hangs out with the gang and robin is making fun of reader for swooning over eddie whenever he talks about lord of the rings
@evans-heaven
Pretzels
@eddiemunsonssoulmate
Strange Love Pt2 -> The popular girl mingling with the school’s freak should have been outrageous. Yet you chose him as a quick escape from reality because he seemed to be the only person able to give you what you needed. You had no idea that the escape he offered you would turn into something so much more complicated.
@gavvaiins
Otherworldly -> eddie surprises his partner in the libary, discovering instead of learning they created a whole freaking world
@moonlane
Pretty Brown Eyes -> you finally have the courage to talk to your crush—but then the most embarrassing thing ever happens.
@hotdogwillex
Don’t take my heart (don’t break my heart) -> Dustin isn’t allowed to date until his sister, Kate, does. Problem is, he already has a girlfriend. He looks for help in the most unlikely place: the Hellfire Club.
@anangelwhodidntfall
Anyone But Him -> Reader is Steve's sister and she has a huge crush on Eddie and he's has a crush on her (they flirt with each other at school and at the video store), and Steve does not approve. But his mama instincts kick in when Eddie is at his front door and his sister gets ready to leave with him
@siempre-bucky
Tell Me a Secret -> A classic tale of idiots to lovers. The school freak who was surprisingly good at math agrees to tutor Hawkins High royalty, the Vice President who's on the verge of failing.
@hauntlikeaghost0
She's Real -> Dustin Henderson refuses to believe Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson has a girlfriend.
@ali-r3n
Eddie Munson x Henderson Sister!Reader
@infitsovermisfits
Tiny Swords
@parkerslatte
Caught Red Handed -> Y/N and Eddie are in a relationship but Y/N’s brother Dustin has no idea about it.
@professorrw
Cheerleader -> Y/n and Chrissy are best friends, but when she dies, she knows things aren't as everyone seems to think. Maybe Eddie is innocent.
@rosaline-black
The Five Video Tapes of Eddie Munson -> Working at a video store when your friends aren’t on shift is dull as hell, that is until an unlikely dude starts building up a film collection. And building up the courage to admit his feelings.
@neon-junkie
Why Can't This Be Love -> You've never really fit in, despite trying, despite being on the cheerleading team, despite awkwardly socialising with the  popular crowd. It's not for you - these people aren't for you. Yet, you don't know how to escape! Do you continue following a dead end? Or finally break away? The answer is made for you after your 'date,' a boy on the basketball team, bails on you, and uninvites you from some stupid basketball after party. Whatever, that's fine. But what's not fine is the agonisingly long walk home. Oh, in the dark, late at night!. However, your saviour finds you, and not only does he save you from walking home alone, but the conflicting feelings that you've spent the last few years with.
@mysticmunson
Late Bloomer -> eddie befriends a cheerleader who’s a bit of a ‘late bloomer’
@dadsbongos
Within Six Days -> You, the valedictorian to-be, and Eddie, the bimbo pothead, start studying together so he can graduate. In return, he shows you a more "wild" life.
@iliaclwrites
if you'd taken an arrow (and run it right through me) -> five times you and Eddie pretended not to know each other + one time you didn’t.
@hotdogwillex
youngervolcano - on Ao3
Dont take my heart (Dont break it) -> Dustin isn't allowed to date until his sister, Kate, does. Problem is, he already has a girlfriend. (Or: 10 Things I Hate About You but make it Eddie Munson)

You, Lucas, Jason, Andy, and Patrick were on your way to a boat house on Coal Mill Road, where Eddie was supposed to be hiding. It was dark outside by the time you arrived in the woods near the house. Jason decided to stop by his house to get some things. And by things, you meant weapons. To beat up Eddie as soon as they got their hands on him.
You couldn’t believe Lucas. He had told them where Eddie was. That wasn’t the plan. That wasn’t the plan at all. If Jason and his goons got to Eddie first then god knows what’s going to happen. He would never talk to you then. You would never find out the truth.
Jason opened up the back hatch on his Cherokee so everyone could grab a weapon. All you grabbed was a flashlight. Beating someone up wasn’t on your agenda. Jason, Patrick, and Andy had other plans though, grabbing baseball bats and crowbars. Jason shut the hatch and you guys all huddled up.
“So if Sinclair is right, the freak is hiding here,” he said, drawing an ‘x’ in the dirt with a stick. “We move through the woods here together, then Patrick and Andy, you split up. Go around this way.” He drew a semi-circle in the dirt going around the x. “Me, Sinclair, and y/l/n, we keep going, then flank his ass from both sides.” He aggressively draws lines going into the x. “That freak won’t know what hit him.”
“Yeah!” Andy hollered.
“Let’s get moving,” Jason said. The five of you started walking through the woods together, just as was planned. You didn’t know what was about to go down, but you knew that you still needed to get Eddie alone somehow. He was doing a pretty good job of hiding, you had to give him that. You understood why he was hiding, but if he wouldn’t talk to anyone no one would know the truth. But even if he did tell them the truth, who would believe him? It seemed like the entire town was against him. You had hope though. Lucas’s friends must have some reason to also be looking for Eddie. Maybe he had made it somewhere safe. He didn’t deserve what was coming to him if Jason got ahold of him.
You and the group had traveled a little further into the woods silently, and once they were close enough to the house Jason motioned with his flashlight for Patrick and Andy to start taking a different route. You, Lucas, and Jason continued on though. You were in the very back of the group of three, with Lucas in front of you and Jason leading, of course.
There was tension in the air, and it was pretty obvious that you guys were uncomfortable. You had been running around all day, following leads that you didn’t even know were trustworthy and now it was dark and you were sweaty and tired and it wasn’t pleasant. In the end, if you found out the truth about what happened to Chrissy, it would all be worth it.
You weren’t paying attention to your feet so it was no surprise when you tripped over a tree root, crashing to the forest floor. You cursed and rolled over, rubbing your ankle.
“Are you okay?” Lucas asked. You nodded and accepted the hand that he offered. You looked at him skeptically but didn’t say anything. There were some traces of nervousness, but no guilt in his facial expression. Your first assumption was that Lucas sold Eddie out, but maybe he hadn’t. Only time would tell.
“Let’s get moving,” Jason said flatly. He didn’t care that you had fallen. He just wished you would hurry up and quit wasting time. Time where he could be landing blows on Eddie Munson’s ‘freak’ face. You huffed but started moving again.
In no time you arrived at the boat house. There were no lights on inside, no signs of life that you could tell. Jason panned his flashlight on the windows but the curtains were closed. He tried the door, but to no avail. It was locked of course. You groaned internally. Knowing the basketball captain he was going to break in. “Fantastic,” you thought, rolling your eyes. Low and behold, he was using the butt of his flashlight to break the glass window in the door. He slammed it into the pane and it shattered, leaving jagged shards on the ground.
You heard a rustling behind you and whipped around. It was just Patrick and Andy. You shot them a glare which they probably couldn’t see in the dark. It was the thought that counted though.
Jason was undeterred at their arrival, and stuck his hand through the place the window previously was, careful not to cut himself on the remaining glass. Once the door was unlocked the five of you entered the house.
It looked abandoned, unlived in for a while. The wooden floor was covered in dirt and leaves, there were old empty boxes of food on the counter, and furniture was flipped over and disheveled. Jason panned his flashlight around the ramshackle cabin. No one was there. No Eddie in sight. You weren’t sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. At this point finding him seemed like it would be impossible.
You were nearly blinded when Jason swung his flashlight around and pointed it in Lucas’s face. He squinted against the bright light. “You sure Eddie was here?” Jason asked.
“Yeah. I-I’m-I’m positive,” Lucas answered.
Jason just looked at him for a second. “Let’s check around the back,” he finally said.
The three of them started walking, and you were going to follow them until Lucas grabbed your arm, stopping you. You turned around, about to say something but he hurriedly put a finger to his lips and ushered you to follow him. He left the cabin through a back door and broke out in a run, stopping at the side of the house to grab two bikes that were leaning against the wall.and you had no choice but to follow him and get on the second one. Your heart was hammering in your chest but Lucas wasn’t slowing down so you couldn’t either. After you were a good distance away from the house he slowed his pace just a bit.
“Lucas-” you panted, legs pumping beneath you. “Where- the hell- are we going?”
“Okay so- Eddie is not here obviously. Never was. This is my friend’s old house,” he explained.
“So why did we come here?” you asked, slightly irritated.
“To get away from Jason, Andy, and Patrick. I know where Eddie really is, but right now we have to go to the high school.”
“What? The school? Why?” you questioned.
“My friends. They’re going to meet us there. Eddie didn’t kill Chrissy. He tried to save her.”
So Eddie really didn’t kill Chrissy. You were right on that. But if it wasn’t him, who was it? And if Eddie tried to help her, he must know who. So why isn’t he coming forward?
“Okay so who did?” you probed.
“I don’t know. But I think my friends might have some ideas.”
“I guess we’ll see.”
Eight miles and a gallon of sweat later you were at the school. “God I’m about to die,” you groaned. Lucas wasn’t complaining nearly as much as you, but he was sweating profusely and panting too. You dumped your bikes outside and ran into the school, weaving through hallways and classrooms alike, feet pounding on the floor. If anyone else was in the school, they would know you were coming.
You and Lucas turned one more corner and- “AHH!” multiple screams filled the air. You backed up multiple steps, heart racing even more than it already was. Lucas stuck his arms out and said, “It’s me! It’s me- and this is y/n!”
“Lucas?” a girl's voice said. You squinted at where the voice came from and saw a very familiar girl. After a few seconds of staring at her you realized who it was. It was the girl from the bathroom. What was her name? Max?
“Jesus, what’s wrong with you Sinclair?” You recognized this guy too. It was Steve Harrington. Everyone knew Steve. He had just graduated last year and worked at the video store. You didn’t know that he was friends with Lucas.
“I’m sorry,” Lucas huffed. He and you both were still trying to recuperate from the eight mile distance you rode.
“I could’ve taken you out with this lamp!” Harrington shouted. He was indeed holding a lamp… like a baseball bat.
“Sorry guys,” he leaned against a locker for support while you clutched at your chest, “We were- we were biking for eight miles. Give me a second. Shit.” He wiped an arm across his forehead and walked back to the group. “We’ve got a code red.”
“What?” Steve asked. Lucas was still panting and trying to catch his breath and seemed like he was struggling to keep talking. You were in no better a state than he was but you had your mind somewhat together at the very least.
“Jason, Andy, and Patrick are trying to capture Eddie. Jason is like set on it being Eddie and I’m pretty sure he wants to beat the shit out of him. And they think a kid named Dustin knows where he’s at,” you rushed out.
“I’m Dustin,” a boy with a cap on said. “Who are you again?” he asked.
“Y/n. I’m Chrissy’s best friend. Was Chrissy’s best friend,” you corrected. “And you,” you looked at Dustin, “are in danger.”
“We’ve got bigger problems to deal with than Jason.” Dustin turned around and looked at Max.
“What are you talking about?” Lucas asked.
“We’ll explain on the way home. We can’t stay here though,” Harrington said. “Are you coming too?” he asked you.
You nodded, “Hell yeah.”

Oh god. You knew it. You felt it. Why Chrissy? Why? She was the sweetest girl you knew and you had been best friends since your freshman year. She of all people didn’t deserve to die. She had been there for you in hard times, she was your shoulder to cry on, and you hers.
“Y/n?” Jason asked. You had completely forgotten that you were even on the phone. “Do you know anything? Anything at all?” Your mind swirled. You did know something, something that Jason didn’t know. Chrissy had gone to Eddie Munson’s house after the game. Is Eddie a suspect? Did Eddie kill Chrissy? Could Eddie kill Chrissy? You didn’t think so. Maybe you were crazy, but you just didn’t think that Eddie did this. But maybe he knew something or who did it.
“I- I don’t know. Did they say who did it? Is there a suspect?” you asked.
“You cannot repeat this to anyone, got it?” he asked.
You nodded, then realized he couldn’t see you. “Yes. I got it.”
“You know that freak Eddie? The police think he did it. It happened at his house. They think Chrissy is some drug dealer,” he spat. “We’re gonna find him though. The police don’t know where he is but we’ll get him.”
Without thinking you said, “I’m coming too.”
“I don’t think so. You need to stay at your house and stay safe.”
“Jason. Chrissy was my best friend. I. Am. Helping.” He didn’t need to see the facial expression you were making to know that you were serious and weren’t going to budge. You gathered some things and then met him thirty minutes later where the party was last night. Aiding in the search were two other basketball players, Andy and Patrick, and Lucas Sinclair, the freshman that scored the winning point last night. He seemed uneasy but who wouldn’t be with what just happened? So many thoughts were running through your head and you didn’t know what to focus on. You were so… confused.
“Do we have any leads?” you asked Jason. So far all you had done was sit around while Jason called people that might know where Eddie was. You didn’t know where Eddie was, but you wanted to know. You needed to talk to Eddie. Alone. You weren’t going to be able to if Jason and his goons beat him to a pulp. A plan was what you needed. You were going to have to find Eddie first. But how? You were no further ahead in the search than they were.
“We need to talk to his little freak friends in that cult. The one he’s the leader of. They’ll probably know where he is,” Chance said.
“You’re right. Let’s go boys.” He looked at you, “and girl.”
A couple minutes later you were pulling up to someone’s house. There were three people inside the garage, playing drums and guitars. You stayed near the back of the group with Lucas when you guys walked up to the garage.
“Show’s not till next week,” the drummer said, standing up and walking over.
“So that was music you were playing?” Andy asked sarcastically. You rolled your eyes. Basketball players at Hawkins thought they were the absolute shit.
Jason ignored his friend and told the three guys why we were here. “We’re looking for Eddie Munson. He’s in this band, if that’s what you can even call this.”
“What do you care?” the drummer asked. He looked at Jason with narrowed eyes.
“That’s our business.” Jason stood there like a stone wall, unmoving and unwilling to give up.
The drummer looked past Jason and set his eyes on the person standing next to you. “Lucas. What are you doing with these douchebags?”
Jason turned around and looked at Lucas. “You know these freaks, Sinclair?”
He hesitated and looked at the three guys. “Uh, they know my sister,” he said defensively. You didn’t believe that for one second, but you weren’t about to call him out. He continued with disgust, “They tried to recruit me to their club, cult.”
“Lucas, what the hell?” one of the guitarists asked. They were obviously shocked at how Lucas was acting. If you were in their place, you would be too. If Lucas truly was friends with them then he was being a pretty fake friend.
“We’re just trying to find Eddie, man,” Lucas finished.
“Well, you have eyes, don’t you? He’s not here,” the drummer said. There was a moment of silence before Jason suddenly lunged forward and punched him. You took multiple steps back, appalled at the behavior.
“What the hell?” you yelled. The two other basketball players that had come with Jason grabbed the other guys, while Jason grabbed a fistful of the flannel the drummer was wearing. You and Lucas stayed back and watched while the basketball captain questioned them. “Where is he?” Jason yelled.
“I don’t know!” he yelled back. Jason punched him again, this time in the stomach.
“JASON!” you screamed. “STOP!”
“Let him go man!” one of the guitarists yelled. He was being restrained and couldn’t do anything. Jason of course didn’t listen and threw the drummer into the drumset. Lucas stood next to you in distress, holding his hands behind his head watching the scene unfold.
“Jason, stop!” you yelled again as he put his foot on the guy's hand and started stepping down.
“It’s gonna be hard to play drums with a broken hand!”
“Ah! Dustin!” he yelled out.
“What?” Jason asked.
“Dustin Henderson!”
“What?” he asked again.
“Dustin Henderson! Man he was calling around looking for Eddie. Maybe he found him!”
“See now? That wasn’t so hard was it? Now where would we find this ‘Dustin?’” Jason finally let up on the drummer’s hand, and he let out a breath. Beside you, Lucas was looking very nervous. You could tell he was worried about something.
“Hey,” you whispered to him. “Do you know him?”
“Huh?” he jumped.
“Do you know that Dustin person?” you asked again.
“No. No I don’t.” His eyes darted around and he couldn’t seem to look you in the eye.
“You can be honest with me. I’m trying to find Eddie without these guys. I need to ask him some questions about last night. I know something that no one else knows,” you explained. It was a risk letting him know all these things, but if he was friends with Eddie’s friends then maybe you could trust him. Hopefully he wouldn’t betray you.
“What do you know?” he asked.
“Do you know Dustin?” you countered. You weren’t giving up any more information until he let you in on what he knew.
He stayed silent for a second and glanced at the group that was in the garage. He was obviously scared of them. You were too in a way, but you knew they wouldn’t physically hurt you. Drag your name through the mud, yes. But as long as you figured out what happened to Chrissy it wouldn’t matter.
“I’m not going to tell them. I just want to find out what happened to my friend,” you said softly.
He kept thinking for another moment before he finally gave in. “Fine. Yes, I do know Dustin. And this isn’t good. This isn’t good at all. I need to tell him.”
You nodded. “We’ll find a way.” You shut up whenever Jason and his lackeys started walking towards you.
“Looks like we’re going to Henderson’s house.”
You all piled into Jason’s Cherokee and drove across town to Dustin’s house. You and Lucas stayed in the car while the other three guys went up to the door.
“It doesn’t look like anyone's home,” you said.
“Yeah I don’t think so either. There’s a way to get in though. Around the back of the house. Dustin keeps his window unlocked. I can get into his bedroom and he’ll probably have his walkie-talkie with him so I can contact him,” Lucas said.
“Well what are we waiting for? Go!” you said, urging him out of the suv. He opened the door and you both scrambled to the side of the house. Lucas found the window and you helped him climb up and open it. You heard him fall to the floor when he got inside.
“Are you okay?” you called.
“Yeah!” he called back.
You could hear Lucas talking inside, presumably to Dustin. How, you weren’t entirely sure. Something about a walkie-talkie.
“Sinclair! Y/l/n!” you heard Jason yell.
“Fuck,” you cursed. Him and his goonies rounded the corner to the house and stomped towards you.
“What the hell are you guys doing?” he asked, crossing his arms and looking you in the eye.
“Lucas found a way in,” you explained.
“Uh-huh.” He walked up to the window, “Sinclair! Get out here!”
Lucas climbed through the window and jumped down onto the leaf covered ground with a crunch.
“What the hell were you doing?” Jason asked.
“I was- I was looking for clues,” Lucas answered.
“Clues?” Patrick, one of the basketball players, asked. “Does the freshman think he’s Sherlock Holmes or something?” Andy gave him a high five as they both snickered.
“You guys have such a great sense of humor,” you said dryly towards the two idiots.
“What crawled up your ass y/l/n? It was just a joke,” Andy said.
“A joke. Yeah. Are you aware that my best friend just died? That she was murdered? Do you think it’s the time to be making stupid jokes? Lucas was trying to help, so shut the hell up,” you snapped back. Andy glared at you but shut his mouth, just like you told him to.
“Let’s go guys,” Jason said. He was getting tired of standing around and getting absolutely nothing done. And so were you. You hadn’t had the chance to ask Lucas what he found inside Dustin's room. He must have gotten in contact with someone from all the talking he did. And how nervous he was acting now.
You started to walk away with the three basketball players but Lucas hesitated. “I found one,” he blurted out. You whipped your head around and stared at him. If he did find something he wasn’t really going to tell them was he? What happened to them trusting each other? “A clue,” he said, stepping forward and gaining some confidence. Internally you were glaring at him. Externally you just looked at him expectantly. “I know where Eddie’s hiding.” He looked between the three guys. “This little fucker,” you thought.

A/N: I literally spoiled you guys with this chapter. It's just Eddie and the reader and there is FLUFF. It's also twice as long as the other parts so you're welcome. Requests open (Stranger Things, Marvel, Harry Potter), taglist open, inbox open! Please like, comment, and reblog!

You tilted your head up slightly, taking in the sight of Eddie Munson. He was leaning against the door frame smiling, big brown eyes filled with amusement. His hair was a little messy, but it suited him. You looked him up and down, taking in what he was wearing. You nodded in appreciation of his cool style.
“Are you… checking me out?” he asked jokingly.
You quickly met his eyes again, “I- no. I wasn’t. I just like your outfit.”
He narrowed his eyes but the smile remained on his face. “Whatever you say. I’m just going to keep thinking that you were checking me out. I mean, I really don’t blame you. These luscious locks and my killer style is really something that you don’t see every day.”
You stayed silent and looked at him expectantly. He stood there looking back at you, waiting for you to say something before realizing that you were still outside and he was blocking the door. “Let me get some of these bags for you,” he said. He reached forward and took three of the bags out of your left hand and carried them inside.
You followed him, “Thank you.” The inside of the boathouse was a mess, and it smelled musty. There was a film of dust covering every surface and trash laying around. You weren’t sure what was because of Eddie and what was already there.
“No problem. It’s the least I can do since you picked all this up for me.” Eddie set the bags down on the counter and started pulling stuff out. You set down a plastic bag, the six pack, and took the Cokes and waters out of your backpack and put them down too. You looked over at Eddie who had gone uncharacteristically quiet. He was staring at the six packs, mouth agape.
“You got beer?” he asked incredulously.
“Yeah. You asked for some didn’t you?”
“Yes, I did, but I didn’t expect you to actually get them. You are now my favorite person,” he said. He pulled two beers out, offering one to you. You took it and followed Eddie to the couch. He plopped down and cracked the tab on his drink, taking a long sip. “That is heaven.”
You took a seat on the couch too, getting a whiff of weed when you sat down.
“So you wanted to talk about Chrissy?” Eddie asked. His facial expression was soft and understanding and made you feel safe.
“Yeah. I knew about her wanting to buy from you and that she was going to your house before that party. She never came though.”
He nodded. “We met up just outside the school at first, right where the trees start and that little picnic table is. She seemed on edge when I got there, but I mean, she’s a cheerleader and who would think of Chrissy Cunningham buying drugs?”
“Nobody… at least nobody that doesn’t know what was going on with her,” you said.
“She told me that she felt like she was losing her mind. I felt bad for her. I don’t know what she has going on but I could tell that it was really getting to her.”
“Chrissy never had the best home life. At all. For the past week she was having bad headaches, nightmares, and she couldn’t sleep. I know she was seeing the guidance counselor but I don’t think it was helping at all. That’s why she came to you.” You paused, thinking about your last day with your best friend. “The day she died I was in the bathroom with her. She was throwing up and didn’t feel good but she wouldn’t go home because of the game.”
“Sounds like her,” Eddie added.
You smiled, “Yeah. Chrissy is very devoted to the things she enjoys. Was. Sorry, I’m still not used to her… not being here.” You swallowed, trying to contain your emotions as much as you could. It didn’t work too well, tears welling up and some sliding down your cheeks. You have been so busy since she died that you never really had the time to just sit down and think and talk.
“Hey,” Eddie said softly, reaching towards you and cupping your face. He wiped the tears off your cheeks with his tough thumbs. He looked hurt seeing you so sad. “You don’t have anything to apologize for. You were her best friend and it’s completely okay for this to be hard on you.” He dropped his hands, leaving your cheeks feeling slightly cold. His hands were warm.
You sniffled, “Thank you. I don’t know… Chrissy didn’t deserve that. Of all people, she especially didn’t. She was so sweet and caring. I met her when we had tryouts for the cheer team. I remember I was so nervous that I thought I was going to throw up. She noticed and came over and talked to me and told me how she saw me practicing and that she was positive I would make the team. Sure enough I did. And she did too.” You smiled, thinking about how you two had become friends some three years ago. “She was just so positive. You couldn’t be around Chrissy and be upset at the same time. It was simply impossible.”
“I’ve known her since middle school and I can tell you that she’s always been like that. I think we both became very different people in high school though. She became the most popular girl at Hawkins and a cheerleader and I’m a freak that plays a satanic game.” He chuckled.
“For what it’s worth, I don’t think you’re a freak. People love to make assumptions about things they don’t fully understand or know about.” You smiled at him and received a smile in return.
“Thank you. Y’know, you’re pretty cool. Waaaaay too cool for me,” he joked.
“I don’t know about that. I think you’re pretty cool too,” you laughed quietly.
“No, you’re laughing. You do think I’m a freak.” He put his hand on his chest and a hand to his forehead, acting distraught.
“I would never. If anything, I’m a freak too. I ditched Jason and his asshole buddies so I could find you.”
“Who? Little old me?” he asked, eyes wide and eyebrows raised. “You ditched the basketball captain for me?”
“Yes, I did,” you said matter-of-factly. You crossed your arms and raised your chin up.
“Okay, y/l/n you are officially the coolest person ever. I just can’t begin to compete with you,” he plopped his hands down on his lap in defeat.
“Oh stop,” you waved him off, “I’m not that cool. Now drink your beer that I got illegally.”
“WHAT? Not only are you cool, you’re also a rebel. Wow. I never would have thought that y/n y/l/n would be so awesome.” He picked his beer back up and held it towards you, “Cheers.” You picked up your own can and clinked it against his. Yours wasn’t even opened yet. After you cracked the top open you took a drink. It was room temperature, but you were used to drinking beer like that.
After what seemed like a few sips, your can was empty. Eddie had finished his before you, but was waiting until you were finished with yours before getting another one. He took your empty can and tossed it in the trash along with his. He went to the counter, grabbing two more beers and also bringing some snacks.
He opened up the box of cereal and took the bag out, tearing it open so the hole was big enough for you both to get some. “So…” he started. “What are you into?”
“What do you mean?” you asked.
“Music wise. Who do you listen to?”
“I like The Clash, and Foreigner, and Kate Bush.” You didn’t think Eddie would be the biggest fan of any of those so you got a little bashful.
“I like The Clash and Foreigner. You’ve got good taste,” he said, grinning.
“Really? You’re not just saying that?”
“Ugh! Absolutely not!” Eddie ran over to the counter and climbed on top of it. He held his hand up to his face like he was holding a microphone. “I wanna know what love is! I want you to show me! I want to feel what love is, I know you can show me!” Eddie yelled.
You broke out into a laughing fit. Eddie wasn’t a terrible singer, definitely not the best, but he tried and it was incredibly funny. You clutched at your stomach. It had started hurting from how hard you were laughing.
“What’s so funny? Get up here!” He hopped down and pulled you up from the couch, you were still laughing a little bit and having so much fun that you just let it happen. You both got on the counter and Eddie took your hands. He was spinning you around and moving your arms around everywhere. Neither of you were coordinated in any regard but it didn’t matter.
You danced and sang together for a while until you were both out of breath. “That- was fun,” you said.
“Yes it was,” Eddie said as he put his hands on your waist to help you off the counter. “You’re a great dance partner.”
“Ha! No I’m not.”
“Yes, you are. You’re an amazing dancer. If I were ever in a dance competition, I would want you to be my partner.” He raised his eyebrows and smiled at you, like he was making an offer.
“Why would you ever be in a dance competition?” you asked, laughing.
“I don’t know, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.” He plopped back down on the couch and drank some more beer.
“You know what? You should join the cheer squad.” You sat back down on the couch too and kicked your tennis shoes off onto the floor. You put your legs on the couch, feet just a few inches from Eddie.
“I don’t know… I wouldn’t want to outshine everyone else,” he said, glancing at your feet mischievously.
“I’m sure they would manage somehow.”
Eddie sat there in thought for a second, stroking his nonexistent beard. “How about… you join the Hellfire Club… and I’ll learn the cheer routines for the last few weeks of our senior year?”
Realization dawned on you. “The last few weeks of our senior year. Wow. It feels like I just started high school a few weeks ago.” You smiled bitter sweetly, thinking about everything that had happened in the past four years of your high school career. It had been a wild ride… and Chrissy had been there every step of the way. “What do you plan on doing when you graduate?” you asked.
“You mean if? This is my third time redoing my senior year,” Eddie said. You were aware of the fact that it wasn’t his first time being a senior. You’d never really thought about how that made him feel though.
“I’m sure you’ll graduate this time. I can even help you if you want,” you offered.
“As embarrassing as it is, I do need the help. I’m at an F in Ms. O’Donnell’s.” He shuddered thinking of her class. Ms. O’Donnell’s class was not fun in any regard. She was old. Old as dirt. She was very traditional and she gave Eddie trouble for being a “freak.”
“Well you are in luck because I’m passing that class with a B average.”
“Oh wow. You’re cool, a rebel, funny, an amazing dancer, pretty, and smart? You are a knockout y/l/n,” Eddie said, grinning at you.
The fact that he had called you pretty did not go without notice. Your face burned a little bit from hearing it. “You think I’m pretty?” you asked. You didn’t ask it in a way that implied that you didn’t think you were pretty, but in a way that asked if he specifically thought you were pretty.
“Oh yeah. I always have. Anyone that doesn’t is blind,” Eddie said finally. Saying that didn’t even phase him. He was so confident in his answer it made your face burn a little more. “Your face is red,” Eddie teased.
“Because it’s hot in here,” you lied, embarrassed. You took a sip of your beer, giving yourself something else to focus on other than Eddie staring at you with a knowing smile on his face.
“It’s not hot in here. It’s pretty cold actually, and it’s going to get colder. I don’t think the heater in this house works. Rick is in jail so he wouldn’t know to get it fixed.” He looked around at the house he was sitting in. “Wait, are you staying here tonight?”
“Well I wasn’t exactly planning on it but it’s pitch black outside and I rode here on my bicycle. If you don’t want me to stay I can leave though,” you added.
“No! No, please stay. I would enjoy the company,” he quickly answered.
“Alright,” you smiled, causing him to smile too. One thing you had noticed about Eddie is that he smiled a lot. Like every time you looked at him. You were in no way complaining. He had a nice smile, an infectious smile. His eyes lit up whenever grinned. His eyes were another thing completely though. They were big and brown, and reminded you of a labrador’s eyes in the best way possible.
Under your gaze, Eddie felt a little nervous. He sat up straighter and quit spinning the rings on his fingers. The movement drew your eyes to his hands. Almost every finger was adorned with a thick silver ring. He had a watch on one wrist, and a heavy silver chain on the other. He was very accessorized. You looked down at your own hands, one single ring on it. There was a thin silver band on your right thumb, a gift from Chrissy. She had a necklace, and you had a ring. If you took it off you would see the little flower engraved on the inside of it. Her necklace had a flower charm.
Eddie was looking at your hand too. “I like your ring,” he said.
You looked up at him, “Thanks. I like all of your rings too. Do they have stories?”
“Um, no not really. I got them at thrift shops. Just whatever I thought looked cool. Except for this one.” You had put your legs down, allowing him to scoot closer to you. He held his left hand out in front of you and wagged his pointer finger. “It was my uncle’s. He got it from a bet.”
“Oh really? What was the bet?” you asked, intrigued.
“He bet his friend that he could get an autograph from his favorite guitarist, but his friend didn’t think he could,” Eddie explained. “Well a few months later, the band that the guitarist was in was touring and my uncle went. He was able to catch the guy after the show and get the autograph. Then in turn also getting the ring.”
“Wow. Your uncle sounds like a cool guy,” you said.
“He is. I’ve been living with him for a while now. I hope I’m not causing him any trouble with this whole situation.” Eddie sighed and leaned back. “I don’t know what I’m going to do after this. How am I going to convince all of Hawkins that I didn’t kill Chrissy?” For the first time that night Eddie sounded hopeless, defeated.
Your heart ached. Eddie wasn’t a killer. Anyone that took any time to know him would realize that. You reached for his hand, which was resting on his thigh. His rings were cold, unsurprisingly. His hand was bigger than yours, and a little rougher.
You squeezed his hand, “We’ll figure this out. I know you didn’t kill her. Dustin and his friends know you didn’t kill her. That’s a start.”
He nodded, “You’re right.” He looked you in the eye and gave you a small smile. “You know what we should do?” he asked, his energy returning.
“Hm?” you hummed.
“We should make a blanket fort.” He stood up, tugging on your hand, “Come on.” You followed him to one of the bedrooms in the house, careful not to step on anything that was scattered on the floor. In the bedroom there was a wooden four poster bed with a mossy green quilt and multiple pillows. Eddie took those and you stripped the bed of its sheets. Once back in the living room you dumped the stuff on the floor.
“Okay so let’s get two of these,” Eddie said, grabbing two kitchen chairs and placing them about four feet in front of the couch.
“We obviously need a soft bottom,” you said, taking the quilt that you had found and folding it to fit between the couch and the chairs. You put down two pillows at each end and then helped Eddie spread out the sheet to drape over the chairs, creating a tent over your blanket and pillows. You put the other sheet down on the floor and put a throw blanket that was on the back of the couch down there too. You ran over to the counter and grabbed your drinks and the snacks and climbed into the fort. Eddie had already climbed in.
“A nice little castle we’ve made here if I do say so myself.”
“It is pretty nice,” you agreed. You yawned.
“Are you tired?” Eddie asked, leaning back on his elbows.
“Yeah a bit. I’ve been running around all day.”
“You should get some sleep then. Do you want to take the couch and I’ll sleep down here?”
“Eddie, c’mon. That is not comfortable. You can take the couch. I’ll sleep down there,” you said.
“Y/n I’m not letting you sleep on the floor.”
You mustered up a little bit of courage and said, “Well how about we both take the couch?”
“Like… I sleep on one end and you sleep on the other?” he asked. He wasn’t trying to jump to any conclusions and think you meant something else. Although he hoped you meant something else.
You took a deep breath. Eddie not automatically assuming what you meant and making you spell it out was making you even more nervous. You almost backed out and just nevermind. But you didn’t. “No, I mean that… we sleep next to each other on the couch. It’s cold and body heat will keep us warm.”
“Oh,” he swallowed, Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. “Um- yeah we can- we can do that.”
You both crawled out and collected the covers and pillows. You tossed the softest pillow down onto the couch and Eddie chose a cover. You discarded the rest of the stuff next to the couch and then looked at each other, blinking. Who knew that two adults would act so bashful.
“So I guess you lay down first and then I’ll lay down on top of you. Unless you want to lay on top of me,” you said.
“I’ll lay down first,” he said. You nodded and let him lay down. He shut his eyes when you laid down on top of him, fitting together like puzzle pieces. You slowly eased yourself onto his chest, hearing his heart racing. He pulled the blanket up to cover you both and wrapped his arms around you. His embrace was so… comforting.
“Is this good?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah. Are you comfortable?”
“Mhm. You’re warm,” he chuckled.
“So are you.”
“Goodnight y/n.”
“Goodnight Eddie,” you said. There was silence for a few seconds before you felt Eddie kiss the top of your head. His heart rate quickened even more, and you were glad he couldn’t see your face because it was bright red.

“So…” you started. “You’re telling me that there is another dimension under Hawkins called ‘The Upside Down?’ And you have a friend ‘Eleven,’ that has powers and she can move stuff with her mind and she opened a gate to this Upside Down, and monsters were in Hawkins and they were the reason for some of the deaths these past few years?” At the school and on the car ride to Nancy Wheeler’s house, who had shown up at the school along with Robin Buckley, you were being filled in on all the events leading up to these killings. The murder of Chrissy.
“Yes,” Dustin said. “And we think that the Upside Down had something to do with Chrissy and Fred being killed. And we also think that… Max could be next. So we’re trying to figure out some way to stop it.” You glanced at Max, empathetic and also to a certain degree sympathetic to how she was feeling.
Once they found out you were best friends with Chrissy, you told them all about how she was having nightmares, headaches, and trouble sleeping, and even that episode in the bathroom the other day. They informed you that Chrissy’s ‘episode’ was probably her seeing the thing that had killed her. Max said that something similar had happened to her.
It was a whole lot to take in, and almost too hard to believe. You were keeping your mind open because you’d always heard that Hawkins was cursed, and it sort of made sense. It didn’t make you feel any better about Chrissy, but at least it was some closure.
“This thing… you’re calling it ‘Vecna?’” you asked.
“Yeah, we came up with that with Eddie,” Dustin said.
You raised your eyebrows, “You’ve talked to Eddie?”
“Yeah, we know where he’s at.”
“Where?” you asked quickly.
Your eagerness must have concerned them because no one said anything for a minute. Steve was driving but you saw him glance at you through the mirror. Max wasn’t really contributing much to the conversation, which you didn’t blame her for but she also glanced between you and Dustin. Lucas seemed to be waiting for Dustin to say something. And Dustin was just looking at you, contemplating. So it was going to come down to Henderson on whether or not you would talk to Eddie.
Dustin finally spoke up, “Why do you need to know? How can we trust you and know that you won’t go tell Justin and his goons?”
“I want to talk to Eddie. He was the last one that saw Chrissy before she… died. And believe me, I don’t want anything to do with Justin. He’s a douchebag.” You stared at the freshman expectantly, waiting for him to answer. You could tell he was really thinking about it. You didn’t know exactly what kind of relationship he had with Eddie, but you could tell that Dustin wanted to protect him.
“Look, I promise I’m not going to tell anyone his location or try anything. I just want to talk to him,” you said.
“Hmm… fine.” Dustin finally gave in. “He probably needs more food anyways. Let me talk to him.”
You let your shoulders drop with relief while Dustin pulled out his walkie talkie. “Eddie? Eddie, this is Dustin.”
“Dustin! Hey, I’m running low on food. And I could really use a six pack right now.” Eddie’s voice crackled over the device.
“Okay well you’re in luck because someone wants to come talk to you. Here, I’m handing her the walkie talkie.” Dustin held out the walkie talkie and looked at you to take it and you stared at him with wide eyes before he thrusted it into your hands.
“Hello? Dustin? Who am I talking to?” Eddie asked.
“Hi!” you cringed because of how eager you sounded. “Hi, you probably don’t know me but my name is y/n y/l/n. I’m Chrissy’s best friend.” You gulped, waiting for his response. You didn’t know what exactly you should have said, but hopefully that basic information would let him know enough.
“Y/n? We have Ms. O’Donnell’s together don’t we?”
“Yeah.” You were surprised he knew who you were. You had only talked to him maybe once or twice.
“I’m really sorry about Chrissy,” he said. You could hear in his voice, though somewhat distorted, that he truly was sorry.
“Thank you. Um… I was hoping I could talk to you. If you don’t mind,” you quickly added.
“No, no. I don’t mind at all. It would be nice to have some company actually.”
So instead of taking you to the Wheeler’s house, Steve dropped you off at your own home. You went inside, passing by your mother in the kitchen. “Y/n!”
“Hi Mom!” you yelled back, taking the steps two at a time.
“Y/n where have you been?” she called, voice laced with worry and concern.
You stopped at the top of the stairs and started going back down. You would do a lot of things, but worry your mom to death wasn’t one you wanted to do. “I’ve been with some friends.”
She sighed at your vagueness but didn’t pry any further. “Please, please, be safe. Y/n I am begging you. I love you so much and I couldn’t bear it if anything happened to you.” Her eyes were watery and you could tell how scared she was.
“Mom…” you walked around the counter and hugged her, letting her envelop you in her motherly embrace. She sniffled next to your ear, but you could feel some of the unease leave her body. “I’m going to stay safe. I promise.”
She pulled back from the hug and looked at you, searching your face. “I believe you honey.” She paused for a second, “How are you doing?”
“I’m- I’m coping,” you said, looking at your feet.
“Oh honey,” she said, cupping your face. Her hands were soft and slightly wrinkled. She held your face like she had a million times before and it did make you feel better. You loved your mom more than words could describe. Of all people, she would be the one to convince you to stay home and stop chasing something that could get you hurt. That was the reality of it: you could get hurt, multiple people had.
“Chrissy’s funeral is tomorrow. Her dad called earlier. He doesn’t seem to be doing too well.”
Of course it was her dad that had called. Her mother never would have. You were repulsed just thinking about Chrissy’s mom. Your best friend had told you stories of what that woman had said to her, all the nasty, vile things that she had put into Chrissy’s head. You pushed those thoughts away and just nodded, “I’ll be there.”
“Okay. Be safe,” she said. She leaned in to kiss your cheek and then let you go. As you walked back up the stairs your lip quivered. You would need to stay safe, for your mom. You grabbed a backpack and packed it with some items. Flashlight, a pocket knife, your wallet, your house key, and more miscellaneous things.
You walked back down stairs and out into the garage. You looked between your car and your bicycle, which had gone largely unused since your sixteenth birthday. The car would be quicker, but the bicycle was less conspicuous. Choosing the ladder, you pedaled to the grocery store. He wanted some beer but you were only eighteen. If you wanted to get him some you would need to ask someone else to get it for you.
Taking a chance, you left your bicycle on the side of the building and went in. There wasn’t much time left before closing, maybe an hour or less. Only two or three customers remained in the store. You glanced at the cash register, and perked up when you realized the cashier was someone you knew. Maybe you wouldn’t have to ask someone to buy that beer for you after all.
You walked down the aisles, tennis shoes tapping on the linoleum floor as you thought about what Eddie might like to eat. You grabbed two large bags of chips and dropped them into your shopping basket. Other things that were added were some Pop Tarts, cookies, crackers, a box of cereal, a few bottles of water, and some Cokes. You would have bought more but you had to keep in mind how much space the basket on your bicycle could hold, and how much room you had left in your backpack.
Your last stop in the grocery store was the refrigerators. You stood there staring at the six packs of beers stacked up inside the white, lit up walls. There was an internal battle going on inside you. If you tried to buy these beers, you could get in trouble. Or the cashier could if they sold it to you. On the other hand, if you bought the beers, it would probably make Eddie happy. You gave in and picked up the box, fast walking toward the cash register. You set down your basket and the six pack, panicking just a little bit.
To your surprise the cashier, a fellow senior, said nothing about the beer. They scanned all your items and bagged them, not saying anything until you were handing over your money. “I’m sorry about Chrissy,” they said.
“Oh, thank you,” you responded.
“No problem. She didn’t deserve that man,” he said.
“No, no she didn’t.”
“Well, have a good night.” He handed you the receipt.
“Thanks, you too.” You took the receipt and stuffed it into one of the plastic bags that you were trying to hold. It took you a minute but you finally were able to fit two of the bags into your backpack, and carry the rest outside. To your relief your bicycle was right where you left it. A small miracle. You maneuvered the bags into your little basket and started on your ride to where Eddie was. Every so often you would stop to check the piece of paper the directions were written on. They weren’t perfect but they did the job.
There were stars in the sky by the time you arrived at the boat house. You walk up to the house hesitantly, peeking at the windows before you knocked on the door. In a few moments the door swung open with a flourish.
“You must be y/n.”

Steve Rogers was a very dedicated man. He was a focused man. He rarely got distracted. So why was it that his mind seemed to be elsewhere lately? The group could be standing around having a conversation and someone could try to say something to Steve and he wouldn’t even notice. If he wasn’t needed for anything he was just gone. As soon as they returned from a mission he was in a rush to leave. Maybe Natasha was looking into things too much. She didn’t think she was. She was usually right about most things. Something was going on and she wanted to find out what.
Natasha, Wanda, Vision, and Clint were lounging around in the Avengers Tower waiting for Tony, Steve, and Bruce to return. The three men had been in Russia for six days to speak with an ally of SHIELD. Nick had sent them. Well, not exactly. Bruce and Tony volunteered, but Nick really wanted Steve to go. Fury subtly convinced Cap to tag along with the two brainiacs by telling him how eager the ally was to meet him. And Cap was a people pleaser, so he went.
“Why didn’t Thor have to be here again?” Clint asked. He was laid out on the white couch flipping through channels on the flat screen tv. He didn’t think there was any reason for you four to wait on them to return. He arrived at the tower last, hoping he wouldn’t need to wait long. Alas, he had been waiting for three hours already.
“Thor had business on Asgard,” Vision answered. “He wasn’t able to make it.” Vision sat cross-legged on the opposite end of the couch with Wanda tucked into his side. They were reading a book together.
“Figures,” Clint grumbled. He rolled his eyes and huffed. He sat there for a moment longer before he got up and started walking towards the elevator.
“Where are you going?” Natasha asked. She was just as bored of waiting and wanted to stretch her legs.
“Getting some coffee across the street. People watch maybe. You wanna come?”
So they left. The coffee shop across the street had a couple people in there, but it was quiet. Everyone was going about their business, not paying any mind to the superheroes in the room. Natasha and Clint stood in line waiting for their turn to order. They were going to order their drinks, sit around for a little bit until they got bored, order Wanda something to drink, then go back.
The person at the front of the line, a relatively pregnant woman, got her drink and turned to go sit down. She started taking a sip and only a few steps away from the counter a man bumped into her, resulting in her drink spilling all over her. The man backed away and gave her a grimace, “Watch where you’re going.”
Natasha scoffed and spoke up, “You bumped into her you douchebag.”
“Like hell I did,” the man retorted. “She should have been paying attention. Better yet, she shouldn’t have left her house carrying that thing around.” He pointed at her stomach with a disgusted look.
“You know what, I think you need to leave.” Clint walked out from behind Natasha and stood in front of the man. While Clint got the man to leave, Nat went to help the woman.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
“Yes, thank you. He’s probably right; I shouldn’t have gone anywhere like this,” she said, motioning to her large stomach. She frowned slightly but she didn’t seem to be upset about the mess that was covering her shirt or the fact that the man was so rude to her. “I just wanted to get my favorite coffee.”
“Your husband couldn’t have gotten it for you?” Nat asked, incredulous. ‘Men’, she thought.
“Oh, he’s um… at work,” she said. She nodded and looked away.
“Well he should be with you and this bun,” Natasha said.
Thirty minutes later, after helping the woman dry her shirt and getting free coffee in return, Nat and Clint were ready to go.
At seven o’clock at night Steve, Tony, and Bruce finally returned. The group had waited for ten hours and they were not happy. Especially Clint. They kept the debrief short and sweet so everyone could leave as quickly as possible. Steve in particular seemed to be in a rush and Natasha had taken notice. From the moment he stepped off the helicopter his brows were furrowed and his mouth was a straight line.
Natasha being Natasha, she had to know what exactly was causing Steve so much trouble. As soon as the meeting was over Cap told everyone goodnight and collected his bags. Natasha waited a few minutes before leaving too. She followed him from a good distance and waited as he went inside a chinese restaurant and left with a large bag of takeout. She knew Steve had an appetite but god, that was a lot of food for one person.
She continued following him for several more blocks until he arrived in front of a basic apartment building. Natasha had seen Steve’s apartment before and it wasn’t here. He went in and so did she a good amount of time later. When she walked into the lobby she saw that the elevator was headed to floor 5. She waited a minute before she started walking up the stairs to that same floor. When she arrived she peeked her head around the corner and saw Steve going into one of the apartments. Her curiosity was at its max.
She knew that if she knocked on the door and Steve saw her standing there he would be alarmed. It would be pretty obvious that she followed him. Which she did. But was it warranted? Was his behavior enough that Natasha’s decision wasn’t strange? She didn’t contemplate those things for very long before she was there, knocking on the door to apartment eight.
Y/n was sitting on her couch, about to eat Chinese food with her husband, Steve, when there was a knock on the door.
“I got it,” she said. Y/n stood up slowly and went to the door while Steve protested, but she just waved him off. She turned the knob and opened the door, wondering who would be coming over at nine o’clock at night. Her mouth dropped open when she saw who was standing in the hall. Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow, Steve’s coworker, and the woman that helped her at the coffee shop earlier that day. Natasha seemed to be equally as shocked, standing there saying nothing and just staring back at y/n.
“Honey, who is it?” Steve called.
“Um… come here,” she answered. In a few moments there he was. His eyes widened when he saw who was standing there.
“Natasha?” Steve asked. “What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing here? This isn’t your apartment.”
Steve sighed, “I’ve got some explaining to do.”
“It would appear so.”
An hour, and all the Chinese takeout later, Natasha sat on the couch with her mouth wide open. “So you’ve kept this a secret this entire time? You had a girlfriend? You got married? You’re about to be A DAD?!? This is crazy.” She shook her head in amazement. “Why didn’t you tell us? We could have helped you out?” Natasha asked.
“I didn’t want y/n or the baby to get hurt. I was protecting them.” Steve squeezed y/n’s hand and looked at her with a warm smile.
A few days after Natasha found out about Steve’s secret life he broke the news to the rest of the Avengers too. The response was as good as he could have asked for; they were all ecstatic and happy for Cap and y/n. Less than two months later a beautiful baby boy was born, and it had an entire group of aunts and uncles that couldn’t wait to see him and hold him.
