Currently emotional about how, despite the fact that Endicott’s murder has become a bit of a whole-family affair, Malcolm is still the one doing all the heavy lifting, without telling anyone else. Because even in the episode, both Ainsley and Jessica want him to keep them updated, but only as long as what he’s doing is something they personally can stomach. The moment he brings up the thumb, they (Jessica more than Ainsley) back off.

Malcolm gives them the option to turn away from the full affair, which means that he can’t. He’s trapped himself. He needs support, but he’s more or less cut himself off from anyone who might offer it except for Martin.
