"But Weber’s argument was carefully grounded in history. Price controls, she argued, had been an essential element of the U.S. mobilization strategy during the Second World War. And there were several striking similarities between the economy of the nineteen-forties and that of the present day, including very high consumer demand for goods, record corporate profits, and production bottlenecks in important areas. Back then, the Office of Price Administration simply prohibited companies from raising prices above certain levels. Violators could be sued, or worse. In 1944, Montgomery Ward, the department-store chain, refused to accept the terms of a collective-bargaining agreement—a cap on the price of labor—brokered by the government. President Roosevelt ordered the National Guard to seize the business and remove Sewell Avery, its chairman, from its headquarters." (source)

"12,500 STEEL WORKERS OUT AT THREE PLANTS; WAR OUTPUT SUFFERS," Toronto Star. January 14, 1943. Page 1. ---- Loss Set at 170,200 Tons Monthly, Two-Thirds of Nation's Production ---- ASK WAGE BOOST ---- Three of Canada's basic steel producing plants today are tied up by strikes. A total of 12,500 men have quit work at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; Sydney and Trenton, N.S., to enforce demands for wage increases.
Five thousand workers at Sydney, N.S. - on strike for the third day - were joined early today by 4,000 at Sault Ste. Marie and 3,500 at Trenton.
Strikes at Sydney and Sault Ste. Marie tied up two of the dominion's three basic steel producing plants. It was estimated by government figures the loss in production at the two plants would amount to; 170,212 tons a month, or two-thirds of the country's basic steel output.
Workers at the Steel Company of Canada at Hamilton have decided to defer strike action until the company management has been approached regarding negotiations with the United Steelworkers of America (C.I.O.).
Picket Lines Set Up The strike at the Sault began officially at 7 a.m. when members of the day shift didn't report. Picket lines were set up.
The strikers were not joined by 500 transportation department employees and machinists, members of American Federation of Labor unions. These entered the plant to work today and were not interfered with by pickets. An additional 500 men engaged on construction work were not direly affected by the strike, it was reported.
It was announced that 300 men had been left in the plant to do maintenance work. No effort was made to stop those who wished to continue their regular work in the plant, but as buses neared the picket lines, a union representative boarded each and read the following statement: "This bus after its next stop will go through a picket line - any working man going through that line to work is undermining the fight of his fellow-workers for decent living standards. Let your conscience be your guide."

ECB President Lagarde continues the rhetoric about higher interest-rates
The last week or so has seen a build up again of rhetoric from central bankers over more interest-rate increases. Over the weekend just gone, this was added to as you can see below. The European Central Bank’s fight to tame inflation isn’t over and more action is still needed, according to President Christine Lagarde. ( Bloomberg) This was reinforced further here. “I think we covered a large…

Formed on August 28, 1941, the functions of the Office or Price Administration were originally to control prices and rents after the outbreak of World War II.
The OPA had the power to place ceilings on all prices except agricultural commodities, and to ration scarce supplies of other items, including tires, automobiles, shoes, nylon, sugar, gasoline, fuel oil, coffee, meats and processed foods.
At the peak, almost 90% of retail food prices were frozen. It could also authorize subsidies for production of some of those commodities.

🚬🦇 Vampire!Price 🚬🦇
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vampire!Price AU where he's 737 years old and has been through countless wars. One of the most powerful beings in existence who has the gift, or rather, a curse of eternal life. Now he's with the SAS, forming the Task Force 141, a team of soldiers with special abilities. In the modern day though, Price has sworn to only consume animal blood, because if he consumes human blood (even the enemies') his thirst will grow insatiable and he'll harm other people he grew to cherish, which explains his pale skin colour. He hasn't drunk any human blood since WWII. When he's at the height of his powers, he can control the blood flow of other beings with blood, and with that, their movements and even every pump of their heart. That is, until he met Gaz, who hadn't a single drop of blood inside his body. Spoiler : it's Mummy!Gaz 👀
What a fun experience ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Revisiting the Vampire!Price had been really enjoyable, plus the fact that I get to study more shading and colouring techniques (because I suck at colouring)!
That cup is definitely just a red tea.
Hope you love this art! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

"Verdun Icemen Finish Strike," Montreal Star. August 3, 1943. Page 3. --- Accept Ceiling Price And Meet W.P.T.B. ---- As was anticipated yesterday, the Verdun ice dealers strike was short-lived and reports today were that deliveries were being made as usual at the ceiling price of 12% cents per 25-pound block or two blocks for 25 cents. In the meantime conferences are being held between the ice dealers and representatives of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board to straighten out the price dispute which is believed to have caused the strike.
Some Verdun ice jobbers wish to have the ceiling price increased to 15 cents per 25-pound block and for almost a month now there has been friction between the dealers and the board. The jobbers were warned that any charge made over the ceiling price would be followed by prosecution and householders were urged to report all such overcharges.
It is believed that some settlement will be arrived at during the conferences, though it was pointed out at board headquarters here that any authorization to raise the ceiling price would have to come from Ottawa.

Federal drug-price controls or divide pharmaceutical companies?
Federal drug-price controls or divide pharmaceutical companies?
Should we have government drug-price controls? A good article exploring this subject is titled, “Government Regulated or Negotiated Drug Prices: Key Design Considerations.” This is from that article: What process should HHS use to set the price for a drug? Will the new system set prices only for a limited number of high-cost drugs that lack therapeutic alternatives or more broadly by including…

Reading and writing about these dudes gets way more fun when you move past imagining them as your archetypical romance heroes by the way. When you stop portraying their desires as possessive and objectifying.
Because listen. They’re trained fighting dogs at their core. They don’t want you to be theirs—they want to be yours.
They want you to use them however you need them, to be whatever you need. All you need to do is give them a word of encouragement. A well placed “good job” at the right moment. And they’d do anything you told them, from that moment, forever, as long as the praise keeps coming.
