HOT New Album Fridays: Benny Sings - Young Hearts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Benny Sings has us bouncing in our chairs with GLEE! Young Hearts is a fresh, new, and exciting pop album by an artist that you can tell truly loves what he does. He sings with passion, vigor and playfulness on Young Hearts and leaves our hearts pumping with joy. The album touches on 70s pop, soft pop, and sounds like a mix between Paul McCartney and Joe Jackson. We are thrilled to share this monumental new pop album with you. Check out the album below and full press release: Full Press Release: Today marks the release of Benny Sings' new album Young Hearts, via Stones Throw Records. The album features his recently released bossa nova-inspired track, "Pyjamas," which includes vocals from Remi Wolf and a music video directed by her. The two recently spoke to each other for The Talkhouse, which described Benny as "making the sort of breezy songs that easily get stuck in your head." For Benny Sings, making music isn’t just an art; he sees it as one of the lines of work that make the world go round. He says, “I wanted to be like a baker, I wanted to be like a paver. Everybody works hard to make the world a better place, and I would do the songs.” For nearly twenty years he’s been perfecting that work, culminating in Young Hearts. Young Hearts is Benny Sings’ first record made with a single producer — beatmaker-to-the-stars Kenny Beats. The pair connected over DM, after which Kenny invited Benny to work from his home studio in L.A., where they would jam and write during the day. They’d riff off each other, sharing stories, melodies, and adlibs with collaborators Kenny invited over, relaxing into the anything-goes vibe. Whereas Benny’s always written autobiographical songs, on Young Hearts he looks outward, creating a fictional cast of lovable losers – the kind of bumbling, luckless eccentrics you might find on a lost Steely Dan record. On “Pyjamas” with Remi Wolf, Benny sings as a guy who’d rather watch a documentary than jump into the sack; “The World” captures a '70s nostalgic feel, about “living it up” wherever you are; “The Only One” describes an obsessive romantic who daydreams about a woman unaware of his existence, and the title track imagines a pair of young lovers-turned-addicts chasing pleasure through drugs over an FM-radio piano line. “The antihero is at the heart of my music,” Benny explains. He has enormous empathy for these hapless folks — because he sees himself as one. “It’s who I am at the core. Soft. I hope that someone can listen to these songs and think, ‘I’m not Superman but maybe I can still save the day’.” Benny Sings Tour Dates: March 24 - Roeselare, Belgium @ TRAX March 25 - Amsterdam, Netherlands @ Paradiso March 28 - London, UK @ KOKO March 29 - Paris, France @ Le Trianon March 30 - Berlin, Germany @ Lido April 5 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ Maassilo April 6 - Utrecht, Netherlands @ Tivoli Vredenburg June 9 - Søndermarken, Denmark @ Syd For Solen July 9 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ North Sea Jazz Festival July 14 - Meco Sesimbra, Portugal @ Super Bock Super Rock Read the full article

ArcTanGent Festival Preview
Tumblr media
Now that festivals are back in action we’re super excited to return to the UK’s best math/post-rock festival ArcTanGent which takes place at Fernhill Farm near Bristol from 17-20 August 2022
This year sees Opeth, Cult of Luna and Tesseract headline the festival but here at bUTTONpUSHER we like to champion the more underground bands and these are our top tips for the bands that you really shouldn’t miss.
GOD ALONE
Tumblr media
WHEN: Friday on the Bixler Stage
ABOUT:  God Alone are a 5 piece Post Metal Dance band from Cork, Ireland, they take elements of post rock and black metal and mix it up with a more dancey vibe so if you wanna get your dancing shoes on these lads are sure to get you in party mood, genuinely one of the best up and coming bands we’ve seen perform in the past couple of years and big things are just around the corner with them recently signing to Prosthetic Records to release their new album later this year.
FFO: Altar Of Plagues / Foals (early) / Basshunter
VOGONS
Tumblr media
WHEN: Saturday on the Elephant in the bar room stage
ABOUT:  Vogons are a progressive math/post-rock outfit from the UK, they tend to play more obscure proggy riffs which bounce from one theme to another and take you on their journey through a variety of sounds and styles. They’ve been knocking around the UK scene for quite a while now supporting bands like The Contortionist, The Guru Guru and Poly-Math. They recently welcomed Jack from Pfaff into the lineup on guitar to expand upon their sound, this will be their ATG debut.
FFO: The Mars Volta / Poly-Math / The Physics House Band
EL MOONO
Tumblr media
WHEN: Friday on the Bixler Stage
ABOUT:  El Moono are an alt rock outfit from Brighton who put out one of our favourite releases this year so far “Temple Corrupted” it’s a fierce record about depression, anxiety and societal corruption. They speak openly about mental health issues and these guys have been on our radar for a while now so we can’t wait to see them perform live for the first time.
FFO: Phoxjaw, Black Peaks, Press to MECO
BICURIOUS
Tumblr media
WHEN:  Thursday on the Bixler stage
ABOUT: No strangers to anyone who follows us at bUTTONpUSHER, this Irish mathrock duo have played for us numerous times over the years and they just keep getting better. Reminiscent of Alpha Male Tea Party and ASIWYFA but putting their own stamp on the genre these guys are all about having a good time and they’ve been building a strong following across Europe since the release of their debut album (re)Constructed). Bicurious like to get the crowd involved with sing alongs and can generally be found in amongst the crowd while they play. Don’t miss them!
FFO: Alpha Male Tea Party, And So I Watch You From Afar, Cleft
SEIMS
Tumblr media
WHEN: Saturday on the Main Stage
ABOUT:  SEIMS are the brainchild of Australian multi-instrumentalist Simeon Bartholomew, they have been hailed as one of the most inventive math-rock bands around the Globe this will be the bands first visit to the UK. The band have toured with bands from every genre under the sun including Tortoise (US) and Jean Jean (FRA). We’ve been looking forward to seeing these guys live since we heard about them via our pals at Fecking Bahamas a few years back.
FFO:  Three Trapped Tigers, 65daysofstatic, The Physics House Band

Guys. Seriously. This cover of Sigrid’s ‘Strangers’ by Press to MECO is so utterly beautful and it sounds like it could have been arranged by Patrick Stump, at times. It sounds like a song Patrick would cover. I absolutely cannot tell you how sweet it is. From a band who usually play heavy rock.
Their three completely distinct voices all work so well in this song and you get to see their precious little faces while they do it.
If this doesn’t give you a huge band crush* on Press to MECO, I don’t know what will.
*Or just massive mumsy love.

Don Broco ‘Technology’ release show with Future Love and Press to Meco in Student Central, London. 02/02/2018
At the Don Broco show you can't stand still. And even if you want, because you think you are such a rebel, you simply cannot being clutched between someone's elbow and someone's side. And you are mad if you don't enjoy yourself at their show. You bounce when you're told to bounce, you try to sit down when you're told to go as low as you can, until you almost sit on the lap of person behind you crouching awkwardly along with the rest if the crowd. Audience turned into one sweaty, enthusiastic body with extra feet, hands and heads and throats singing out loud every word.
So we established that. Facts. Obvious facts. Now, the show in Student Central was a very special one: the release day of 'Technology'. No pressure London. Just be better than hometown crowd, celebrate in style.
Apart from brilliant newbies lads brought goodies oldies and the show was a non stop fun. Taking no prisoners they've asked for mosh pits, push-ups ('Thug Workout' obviously). Crowdsurfers didn't have to be encouraged (duuh!). Funny how the most intense activity seemed to be at one of the softer songs, 'Nerve'. But to be fair it's always the best when it goes that way. Songs like 'Thug Workout' or 'Money Power Fame' proved that the audience was on fire. The fire was in its full strength till the very last beat, 'Come Out To LA' reignited the sparks (absolutely fantastic live, great choice for an encore).
It was unique opportunity to see Don Broco rocking the small venue once more and experience their show stronger, rough way. Unique, because after sold out show in Alexandra Palace last year Bedford rockers are heading towards arenas for sure.
Future Love Really pleasant start of the evening. Bassist and guitarist shared singing duties trying their best to warm up the audience. Sometimes it seemed that bassist mic wasn't loud enough and her voice was getting a little bit lost in band's noisy ensemble. But Future Love definitely had loads of fire and rocked Student Central'small stage alright.
Press to Meco The trio roaring music stood in contrast with almost pop boyband like vocals, with smooth harmonies and parts of songs nicely divided between band members. Don't get it wrong - I don't mean it as a bad thing, rather something unusual. Heavier tunes were like punches that night and it was truly a sparing between the band and the crowd warming up and having fun.
Setlist:
Pretty Everybody Priorities What You Do To Me Fire Stay Ignorant You Wanna Know Superlove Automatic Technology Further Thug Workout Nerve Money Power Fame Come Out to LA T-Shirt Song
