Elros or Elrond for the character ask?

I am so late to answering this, sorry... And Elros!

How I feel about this character

Peredhil feels! He chooses the fate of humans for its own sake. Arwen and Earendil made their choice based on love of another person, but what went into Elros's? He’s the one that chooses to die. I haven't come up with a headcanon I'm quite certain with yet. (Though based on when his children were born, it wouldn't have been for love; I doubt his wife was born yet.)

His wife. Who I have no thoughts about!

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I suppose I should say Elrond here, but honestly I think I'm more interested in his relationships with some of the Edain he fought with during the War of Wrath and any human mentors he had.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Well I have some likely unpopular kidnap family thoughts. Brushing on them briefly, I don't think the twins called either Maedhros or Maglor "father" and I think that along with that love were things like fear (I am curious what Elrond and Elros's reactions were to learning about how Elured and Elurin were murdered.)

Other than that... idek what the popular opinions of Elros are. I think there was a part of him that was just done with the Elves.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I am, as usual, generally satisfied with canon. I quite like how he never sees Elrond again after sailing to Numenor, though, ok, I have Elwing and Earendil making some surreptitious trips to Numenor to visit Elros and be grandparents (if anyone's looking the other way, it's Ulmo).

So what I want to know more about: Numenor! The early days of Numenor!! How Elros and others integrated all the various groups - in particular, the Edain who had Easterling ancestors (I also wonder if some Easterlings assimilated into Edainic society during the War of Wrath?) There's also the incredible cultural trauma and ptsd and the generational gap between those who remember the 1st Age and those born after. I'm curious if Elros promoted propaganda or certain cults (I am very curious how Numenor's attitude and interpretation of Elros's peredhil heritage changed over time) (And with cults, though this isn’t really related to Elros, I’m curious when the Uinen veneration started; the Numenoreans more or less considered her of equal status to the Valar and I highly suspect veneration of her continued well into late Numenor, possibly up to and through Pharazon’s time.) Also - parallels and perpendiculars between Elros and the various other Edainic kings that were descended from him?

Would love more on the War of Wrath. Generally, not just with regards to Elros.

The names of his kids are super interesting. All peredhil names are, really, but with Elros we get two kids - incl the eldest - named after Valar (Vardamir, Manwendil), one named after Luthien (Tindomiel), and one named "glory of humanity" (lit. man-glory, where man means human not male). A part of me wonders if Vardamir and Manwendil are apotropaic names, or names of appeasement, as well as being names of thanks and recognition. The Valar had given a blessed island to the Edain, but before that they had destroyed the continent they lived on*. Maybe Elros had the wave dream.

*not saying that Beleriand could have been saved given Morgoth corruption or that the Valar didn't make the right call there. It was still an unimaginable tragedy on top of more unimaginable tragedies for the Edain.

Hello everyone! For this year we have decided to host a Tolkien Family Week to show some appreciation to the different kinds of familiar (and in some cases not so familiar) relationships all throughout Tolkien’s work, be it The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion and beyond.

Below is a list of non-mandatory prompts to take some inspiration from:

Day One Parent-child relationship - From Lúthien and Dior to Samwise and Elanor, on this day we encourage you to explore the relationships between mothers and fathers and sons and daughters!

Day Two Siblings - Tolkien presents us with many pairs of siblings throughout all the ages of Arda. For this day we encourage the celebration of relationships between brothers and sisters, such as Fili and Kili or Galadriel and Finrod.

Day Three Extended Family - Cousins, uncles, nieces, grandparents. We can see plenty of such relationships in Tolkien's works. This day could be dedicated to the likes of Fingon and Maedhros, Éowyn and Théoden or whoever else you want!

Day Four Cut Ties - Often enough family doesn't work out the way we want it to and in some cases a family even breaks apart. This day is meant to explore families that didn't last, but also to look at rivalries and lost family members. Examples here may be Fëanor and Fingolfin or Bilbo Baggins and Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.

Day Five Found Family - From kidnap dads to adopted distant cousins, there are a fair number of found families all over Middle Earth. Their relationships - good and bad - can be explored on this day!

Day Six Ancestors and their Legacy - Every family has its roots somewhere. On this day we look back to where the great families in Tolkien's works came from and what those ancestors left behind for their descendants.

Day Seven Freeform - Did we forget about something or is there a prompt you want to revisit? Feel free to use this day for any family related content!

My artwork for this year's @halfelvenweek! The reason for throwing the entire week on one sheet of paper and posting it on last day is simple - I had three exams this week and little energy after... and when my energy and creativity streak hit yesterday, I did almost all of it yesterday!

All characters are presented separately under the cut, 'cause seeing them altogether won't tell you anything about the background story of each!

For Day 1, themed 'Born Different; Doriathrim', here's Lúthien with baby Dior. Dior's at that age when he babbles and Lúthien tries hard to keep her face straight.

For Day 2, themed 'The Choice; People of the Sirion' , we have little Elrond and Elros, looking at the sky... and it's just sad. The eyes can be whoever... Mae, Mags, or Eluréd and Elurín, or you and me... just being heart-broken...

... for Day 3, covering 'Heritage; Númenoreans', and 5 of the 'Legacy; Prince of Dol Amroth' theme, newly-crowned Aragorn's having a talk with Prince Imrahil. Imrahil's defs not the person to ask for personal advice...

... for Day 4 and 6, of themes 'Power; People of Rivendell' and 'Loss; Parents of Half-elves', here's the ever-fabulous Arwen, above her her mum and great-great-great-nan. I'd like to think that after Arwen made her choice, Celebrían went to see Melian for advice and comfort, since it was her own child making that choice for the first time.

And for Day 7, 'Freeform', little Eldarion. Just 'cause he's a cute boy.

Morwë headcanon? 😶

CUIVIENEN ELVES MY BELOVED

Morwë is Tata's and Tatië's eldest son. He's kind of the total opposite of Finwë in both looks and personality and never really got along with him, which is mostly because young Finwë was kind of a dick (a very competent one but still a dick) and very proud that Tata gave him the position as leader of the Tatyar. Morwë was of the opinion that Finwë doesn't deserve his position because of the behaviour (he thought similarly about Imin but that wasn't his business anyway). He was however close friends with Miriel and even married her brother Merion. So even though Finwë and he hated eachother they kind of ended up as in-laws lol. When the elves who wanted to go westwards left Finwë entrusted the safety of those who remained behind to Morwë, reconciling their relationship a little bit. Morwë dies only a few years later leaving the Tatyar in the hands of his younger sister Lilótiel. After both he and Finwë get reborn, they seal their new found friendship with a drink (or two). Also he really thinks that Finwë's family is a mess, Lalwen is his favourite niece.

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life 

hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

best quality: His general skillset? Like he is super brave, he knows how to boat around in the sea and sky, he can slay a very large dragon, can pull of the whole being a star thing wonderfully.

worst quality: I can see him as that kind of person who is overworked but doesn't admit it unless he is about to collapse. So a general lack of self preservation.

ship them with: Elwing

brotp them with: Tilion, Manwë and Ingwion oh and also Frodo, I'm a firm believer in Frodo and Eärendil friendship

needs to stay away from: The Feanorians? Also maybe like shining magical jewelry in general although... He is kinda stuck with the Silmaril right now, isn't he?

needs to stay away from: Not necessarily needs but probably wants to stay away from the Feanorians.

How I feel about this character

Elladan. I love both of Elronds sons unconditionally. They're wonderful, interesting, compelling characters. Elladan I like maybe a little bit more than his twin brother.

Nuin. 100/10. I love this man. He is so interesting to me because of his involvement with the first men and his general story. He's my son and you can pry him from my cold dead hands.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

No-one for both of them. Elladan is somewhere on the aroace spectrum for me while I have had the idea of Nuin having a wife but I disregarded that one quickly. He just doesn't seem to be that kind of person.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

For Elladan, both of his siblings as well as Aragorn and Legolas. I cannot make a decision here. He is kind of like Finrod a person with a lot of friends and a lot of love for those friends.

For Nuin, all of his first awakened men. He just basically raised them all ok? He taught them everything they knew and you cannot convince me that he didn't have a close connection to them.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don't like the idea of Elladan choosing a mortal life. I have very strong feelings against this this Headcanon. I just don't want anymore tragic things to happen?

All the Nuin takes I know are my own so there are no opinions on him I disagree with lol

One thing I wish would happen / had happened to this character in canon

That Elladan and Elrohir had found their mother sooner and that Celebrian could have been saved. I just want that ok?

And for Nuin? That he survived and that he could maybe guide menkind for more generations onwards. Maybe him and Finrod meeting and bonding over their friendship with the edain?

What kind of fic I'd write about them: Kid Fic with her and Daeron as eldritch half Maia siblings trying and failing to make friends until Mablung comes along and is like Uhh you Glow in the dark! THATS SO COOL! BELEG LOOK!!!!

A headcanon about them:

She didn't grow up isolated. Thingol and Melian always encouraged her (and Daeron) to go and make friends. It was her(their) half Maiarin nature that made the other children avoid them. She probably wishes she was born as a normal elfmaiden at some point

As a part Maia she isn't supposed to eat anything because her body feeds itself on light (or smth) but when she becomes mortal she developes human needs and both her and Beren are terrified when they discover that she like has like food intolerances for most things eatable - all of her descendants inherited a shit ton of food intolerances

A random AU I think up on the spot for them:

When Luthien returns with Beren from Mandos his isn't the only soul she brought along with her

Basically Luthien says fuck it and drags Fëanor out of Mandos to get his sons under control (in exchange for the Silmarils)

The quarantine thing: Manwendil or Glorfindel?

Manwendil probably. He and I just would vibe better I think and aside from that he's probably more aware of the fact that a human needs to eat and sleep occasionally. Introducing him to movies and video games should also be fun. And I would probably faint every time I see Glorfindel lol
