What has been the most out of control situation you ever found yourself in when it came to doing what you needed to do as a druid and how did you come out of it?
The most unhinged druidry has ever gotten was the time I was new to all of it, was coordinating an anniversary gathering, and tried to micromanage the schedule down to 15 minute intervals. Natural chaos IS the status quo in paganism, more so than natural order. That's why coordinators in the pagan community so often use the phrase "it's like herding cats."
The immediate lessons were:
stop trying to micromanage things going forward
don't worry about schedules or latecomers or people who have to leave early; we are part of nature, not automatons - our pagan ancestors didn't all have sundials or digital watches
going with the flow lets you appreciate the here-and-now, which reduces stress
not having to create a schedule gives time back to you
There was also the time that sock puppets took over our Mwfydnfud Ritual, and in the end, fun was had by all.

Deuteronomy 33: Moses Blesses The Israelites Before He Dies
1 This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.
2 He said:
“The Lord came from Sinai     and dawned over them from Seir;     he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones     from the south, from his mountain slopes.
3 Surely it is you who love the people;     all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down,     and from you receive instruction,
4 the law that Moses gave us,     the possession of the assembly of Jacob.
5 He was king over Jeshurun     when the leaders of the people assembled,     along with the tribes of Israel.
6 “Let Reuben live and not die,     nor his people be few.”
7 And this he said about Judah:
“Hear, Lord, the cry of Judah;     bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause.     Oh, be his help against his foes!”
8 About Levi he said:
“Your Thummim and Urim belong     to your faithful servant. You tested him at Massah;     you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.
9 He said of his father and mother,     ‘I have no regard for them.’ He did not recognize his brothers     or acknowledge his own children, but he watched over your word     and guarded your covenant.
10 He teaches your precepts to Jacob     and your law to Israel. He offers incense before you     and whole burnt offerings on your altar.
11 Bless all his skills, Lord,     and be pleased with the work of his hands. Strike down those who rise against him,     his foes till they rise no more.”
12 About Benjamin he said:
“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him,     for he shields him all day long,     and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.”
13 About Joseph he said:
“May the Lord bless his land     with the precious dew from heaven above     and with the deep waters that lie below;
14 with the best the sun brings forth     and the finest the moon can yield;
15 with the choicest gifts of the ancient mountains     and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills;
16 with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness     and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,     on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
17 In majesty he is like a firstborn bull;     his horns are the horns of a wild ox. With them he will gore the nations,     even those at the ends of the earth. Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim;     such are the thousands of Manasseh.”
18 About Zebulun he said:
“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,     and you, Issachar, in your tents.
19 They will summon peoples to the mountain     and there offer the sacrifices of the righteous; they will feast on the abundance of the seas,     on the treasures hidden in the sand.”
20 About Gad he said:
“Blessed is he who enlarges Gad’s domain!     Gad lives there like a lion,     tearing at arm or head.
21 He chose the best land for himself;     the leader’s portion was kept for him. When the heads of the people assembled,     he carried out the Lord’s righteous will,     and his judgments concerning Israel.”
22 About Dan he said:
“Dan is a lion’s cub,     springing out of Bashan.”
23 About Naphtali he said:
“Naphtali is abounding with the favor of the Lord     and is full of his blessing;     he will inherit southward to the lake.”
24 About Asher he said:
“Most blessed of sons is Asher;     let him be favored by his brothers,     and let him bathe his feet in oil.
25 The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze,     and your strength will equal your days.
26 “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,     who rides across the heavens to help you     and on the clouds in his majesty.
27 The eternal God is your refuge,     and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you,     saying, ‘Destroy them!’
28 So Israel will live in safety;     Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine,     where the heavens drop dew.
29 Blessed are you, Israel!     Who is like you,     a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and helper     and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you,     and you will tread on their heights.”

#DailyDevotion Blessed Is The Man Who Walks In The Way Of The LORD

#DailyDevotion Blessed Is The Man Who Walks In The Way Of The LORD Psalm 119 Happy are those whose lives are innocent, who live by what the LORD teaches (torah). 2happy are those who keep the truths(edah) He wrote, searching for Him with all their hearts; 3who do no wrong but walk in His ways. 4You ordered us to give diligent attention to Your directions(piqqud). 5O how I want my life to conform to Your laws(huqqim)! 6I will never be ashamed when I study all Your commandments(miswat). 7I will praise You sincerely as I learn Your righteous decrees(misphat). 8I will keep Your laws(huqqim)—don't utterly forsake me. Today we embark on the longest Psalm. As we get started we should note several characteristics. First it is an acrostic Psalm. It has 22 sections as there are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Each section begins with the letter of the alphabet in sequence. Second, it speaks to us about God's Word. It is a meditation on God's Word. There are 8 verses in each section. There are 8 words used for God's Word and each section uses one or more of those words. The words are in English: law (torah), word (dabar), judgments (mitspaim), testimonies (edah), commandments (miswot), statutes (huqqim), precepts (puqqudim), and word (imrah-word in this case is something that is uttered whereas dabar is any sort of word). What words are used in the opening 8 verses? Dabar is in the first verse, edah in the second, piqqud in the fourth, huqqim in the fifth, miswat in the sixth, misphat in the seventh, and huqqim in the eighth. It's amazing that in the opening salvo here there are six of the words used. The only ones missing are dabar and imrah. This sets the tone for the rest of the psalm. The whole of the psalm is a meditation on these words plus imrah. As we can see in the first two paragraphs there are different translations for these eight words depending on your translation. We may explore these a bit as we go. As expected the first word of this section begins with a word that starts with aleph, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is אשׁר. It is blessedness or happiness. Who is the man that is happy? The one whose life is innocent who lives by what the LORD teaches or walks in the LORD's Torah (instruction often translated law). You know if you live according to the revealed will of the LORD, you simply are not going to be causing yourself or other people trouble. Certainly, with a few exceptions, you'll be happy in that state of being. Happiness is again the result of those who keep in the sense of guarding His truths or testimonies. That is to keep them in the forefront of our minds. Ways (Hebrew derek) may also be considered a ninth word for God's Word. Verse four is a remembrance of Deut. 11:18-20. We should be in God's Word regularly, talking about it with others, whenever and wherever. Digging into God's Word, if we love the LORD and trust Him, we should love to do His Word and endeavor to do it. Given, it is often a struggle for us. We should not hate what God commands and instructs us if the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Studying God's commandments should not make us ashamed. If anything we put them forward to those around us and they should be ashamed for following another way, another path other than the LORD's. As we study the LORD's decrees, we praise the LORD for His wisdom shown by them. Those who do not praise the LORD for them are living in darkness. God's Light is not in them. There is a vow then to keep the laws of the LORD. Yes, the Christian response to hearing God's Word is not, "Well, I'll never keep that," but "If this is what the LORD wants, this is what I want and am going to do." The plea to not have the LORD forsake us probably is from our understanding of ourselves in this weak estate. We sincerely intend to keep and do His will. We know we will fall short. For Christ's sake then we make our plea for mercy, kindness, love and forgiveness. Almighty God and Father, You put forth Your instructions so we may live well. Grant us Your Holy Spirit so we may walk in Your ways and be blessed. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

There are five lay, ten major, and forty-eight minor Bodhisattva Precepts.
The first Five Precepts are known as the “Lay Precepts,” as anyone, planning to be ordained or not, can receive them. Taking them indicates a desire to follow the Buddhadharma and be involved in the Sangha (community of practitioners) as best as one is able. The Ten Bodhisattva Precepts are for more advanced practitioners who may or may not be considering ordination. While all Precepts are largely aspirational, they are likewise to be taken seriously. We don’t just give them lip service, reciting them and then going back to our worldly ways of violating one or more on a daily basis.
The Lay Precepts:
1) The First Precept;
I vow to support all living creatures, and refrain from killing.
2)The Second .Precept;
 I vow to respect the property of others, and refrain from stealing.
3) The Third Precept
I vow to regard all beings with respect and dignity, and refrain from objectifying others.
4)The Fourth Precept;
I vow to be truthful, and refrain from lying.
5) The Fifth Precept:
I vow to maintain a clear mind and refrain from harming myself or others with intoxication.
The First states what proper action is—“Support all living creatures,” and then what not to do in order to accomplish that. But there are many ways to support all living creatures that don’t involve not just killing them!
The Second means refraining from not taking credit for someone else’s work to not using a Chat AI to write a term paper.
The Third could mean that we don’t objectify or separate ourselves by defining someone solely based on sexual orientation.
The Fourth would include spreading rumors, gossip, and conspiracy theories in addition to not telling outright falsehoods.
The Fifth means to keep a clear mind, the mind of the Buddhadharma, the mind of the Middle Path. There are many things that can cloud our minds, not just getting drunk or high!
The Bodhisattva Precepts:
The Sixth Precept:
I vow to be kind and to encourage others, and to refrain from discouraging others including myself.
The Seventh Precept:
I vow to be kind to others and refrain from being boastful and self-centered.
The Eighth Precept:
I vow to be generous, to be grateful for what I have, and refrain from yearning for things that do not belong to me.
The Ninth Precept:
I vow to promote harmony and refrain from acting in anger or hatred.
The Tenth Precept:
I vow to affirm and uphold the three jewels (the Buddha, the Sangha and the Dharma).
You may notice that these ten Precepts are basically the same as all other versions taken from the Bhramajala Sutra. Our Sangha’s are slightly different from some Orders in that we state the aspiration of the Precept. In addition to what not to do; they also include what to do.
Prior to taking new precepts, reflect on how each one might express itself in your own life. In what ways, for example, do your actions harm other living creatures. Use each precept as a mindfulness exercise that enables you to minimize harm to others and to reduce your tendencies toward greed, hatred, and delusion.
It’s also important to note that these are vows we are taking to demonstrate our desire to live an honorable life. They are not Commandments in the Judeo-Christian sense—there’s no soul burning in hell for all eternity. There is however an acknowledgement that our actions do have consequences—karma good or bad—which may not manifest itself immediately or even in an obvious way. Our individual and collective actions leave a wake and a legacy. We should bear in mind what the possible outcomes to our actions may be, and whether we’re willing to accept them.
Likewise important that there may be times when correct action actually means breaking a Precept is a given situation. In the Lotus Sutra the Buddha himself lied in order to lure children out of a burning building. An important factor to consider in these situations is whether we are breaking a Precept in order to benefit others, not just ourselves.
That is the bottom line of these Precepts. We receive them as individuals, but we practice them for the sake of all beings, not just ourselves.

The Precepts of the LORD Give Joy to the Heart

8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.

On the Precepts and the Path to Realization
Buddhist training begins and ends with ethical and moral observance. Sila (ethical precepts) establish the causes can conditions in which one may find themselves sufficiently free to practice the cultivation of Samadhi (concentrated attention, or meditative absorption), wherein one may manifest and realize Prajna (transcendent wisdom), which when manifest inspires Sila (ethical observance).
Oddly enough this relationship is not always clear; people consistently fail to understand how Sila relates to either Samadhi or Prajna, and then they attempt to cultivate and realize these latter qualities without consideration for the former.
Indeed, the Buddhist precepts are simple. They invite our attention to our relationship with killing, stealing, sexuality, lying, and intoxication, all of which can take in myriad forms, and all of which can (and do) carry us far away from the fertile grounds wherein cultivation and realization are actually possible.
In neglecting the practice of Sila we ultimately sabotage our practice, and then when our efforts fail we go on to disparage the dharma, and reify our own identity and self-image (and therefore our suffering state) with lament concerning the uniqueness of our minds, and how the practice just doesn’t work for us because we somehow are so different from all of humanity that its fundamental bounding point doesn’t apply to us.
As Zen Master Seung Sahn frequently taught: understanding cannot help you, you must attain the function! Reading the precepts once, agreeing with their fairly universal and assumable nature, and then paying them no mind is understanding alone. Attaining the function of the precepts (Sila) we lean into them and manifest the causes and conditions of fertile practice.
If we’re honest, in mryiad subtle ways, inattention to the domains of the basic five precepts is constantly carrying us away from lucidity and sobriety. And in this, upholding the precepts is not a minor task. Too, the precepts are not just about what we do publicly, but what we do privately, outwardly and in the recesses of our own minds, which can prime us for behavior and dispositions antithetical to dharmic practice.
So often when people receive instructions in the ethical trainings of Buddhism they intrinsically recognize the ways (even now) that their brushes against them sabotage their intentions in their lives already in progress. And still, under the guise of freedom, they seek to systematically dysmantle them, by delegitimizinh them through extreme rhetoric, rather than simply accepting the challenge they pose. As such, saying “but…” constitutes a functional non-starter to practice let alone realization.
Buddhist training begins and ends with Sila. If we don’t want to start there, where is it we could possibly end up? Indeed, where then do we want to end up?
When I was first ordained, my precept master said to me “now that you’re ordained, many kinds of problems will come your way- stay close to your kesa!” Only years and years later have I come to reasonably appreciate what he meant in his admonition to guard oneself, and in this one’s practice with the precepts.

The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His precepts are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. Psalm 111:7-8 In every nation and community around the world there are thousands of different commands or laws that are made to guide the people.
