Dancing In The Rain
Prompt: Rain In which Felix learns that Paris at night is much more beautiful when he dances in the rain…with Marinette.
~~~~~~~
It was a rainy Saturday in Paris, the city of love and magic, of superheroes and villains… One would expect to be charmed by a gentle sprinkle on such a lazy day! However, standing under the sopping café umbrella that threatened to snap shut under the weight of the current downpour, we find a boy who feels the polar opposite. Felix Fathom was unimpressed and just plain irritated with Paris – he didn’t even want to be here! It was not the city itself but his week that had put him in such a foul mood. He took stock of his life up to this point and was convinced he was on a bad luck streak – one that built with each passing day until this very moment.
Why, you may ask?
Monday he was shipped off to Paris by his mother to visit his oblivious cousin for two days. Two days of pretending he didn’t know Gabriel was Monarch. Sure, what could go wrong?
Well, he must have jinxed it or angered a random omnipotent god because this week must be divine punishment…
On Tuesday, he discovered his favorite fountain pen had exploded all over his new book and the contents of his book bag.
Wednesday his mother joyously announced he would be staying for the whole week due to work obligations on her part. Phenomenal.
Thursday he was targeted by an akuma – which, in all honesty, he had instigated the akumatization… but only because that damn waitress had dumped his iced coffee into his lap!
If the akuma seemed a little too hostile, well, Uncle was likely gunning for him…
On Friday, he discovered Gabriel had someone ransack his room – likely looking for the peacock miraculous. Felix suspected it was Uncle Gabe himself because half his clothes were ripped asunder by someone expressing a lot of frustration! And he was not sure what that awful odor rubbed all over his boxers was!
Although he was unsure what his uncle would have burnt to leave a random trail of ashes on the floor…
But this morning?
Oh ho ho, this fucking morning was the pièce de résistance!
Saturday brought forth quite a surprise! He awoke in Adrien’s bed, in his cousin’s pajamas, and a note on his forehead from said conniving cousin telling Felix to ‘fill in’ for him on a photoshoot while he spent the day with his friends. Felix had no idea how the model had gotten out of the house, although he assumed that he would find some of his own clothes missing from his closet if he checked. How did Adrien even get him from his room down the hall without waking him?!
That wasn’t even the worst part.
Halfway through the boring photoshoot on the outskirts of Paris, there was an akuma attack. Stormy Weather appeared after being slighted by the meteorologist at the news station – something about Stormy’s predictions being wrong? He didn’t fully know, he only caught part of her monologue before running for cover. They had been hit by hurricane level winds, sleet, and snow so suddenly that half the equipment had to be left behind. Le Gorille had rushed him to the car to make a quick getaway however, just eight blocks away, they had hit some black ice and popped two tires on the curb. Gorille sent him to go find a place to shelter while he called the auto club, but nothing was open due to the attack. So, Felix made the executive decision to walk back. He was about halfway across Paris when the wave of ladybugs purified the area. Finally, his day was looking up!
Felix pulled out his phone to call Le Gorille…only to find the battery dead. Great.
He was stranded, in the middle of Paris, with a dead phone and no money to even hail a taxi with. ‘This day could NOT get any worse!’ Felix thought in a huff.
That was when the rain started.
You see, Stormy Weather – Aurore, whatever – had predicted an unseasonable rain coming that day and the chief meteorologist had scoffed at the teen. Felix was suddenly very supportive of the akuma’s desire to correct the idiot! The blond ran down the street to a café, only to find it was closed due to a shortage of staff. Luckily there was a left-out patio umbrella that he could take shelter under until the rain lightened up.
Except that it didn’t. It grew heavier by the passing minute and Felix found himself huddled under a flimsy, soddy, dripping umbrella in seemingly the worst rainstorm to hit Paris since the Great Flood of 1910. The wet blond mused over the fact that somehow, someway, this was not caused by an akuma. If that were the case, then could all these linked bad events just be coincidence? Or was he simply that unlucky? Once he returned back to London, he would definitely need to ask Duusu if kwamis could curse people…
Just as Felix was about to settle for getting drenched in the rain, a flash of pink caught his eye. There, across the street, moved a lone hazy figure with a polka-dotted umbrella and pink galoshes. As he turned to look at them fully, he realized this figure was not walking down the street but dancing; kicking up puddles on the sidewalk while humming a little ditty as they crossed the intersection nearby. As the figure got closer, he could make out dark hair pulled back into pigtails… pigtails that reminded him of…
“…Marinette?” He hadn’t seen her since that disastrous night at the Diamond Dance!
The girl jolted with surprise when she heard her name, her bluebell eyes taking in the damp blond boy huddled beneath the dripping canopy. He looked exhausted and just as shocked as she was.
“Ad-Adrien? W-what are you doing out h-here?” she squeaked, a light blush dusting her cheeks.
‘Ah, she thinks I’m Adrien again…perhaps I could trick her into letting me borrow her umbrella,’ Felix thought strategically.
He plastered on his imitation model smile and approached her as far as his sparse covering would allow. “I uh… I had a photoshoot today, but then there was that akuma attack? Then my phone died! And, well, it’s a long story...” He rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
“Wow, talk about bad luck. But are you lost? Your house is this way,” the young designer pointed in the opposite direction that Felix had been headed.
The blond blinked and muttered a curse under his breath. “I guess I got lost with everything going on… Would you mind if I walked back with you?”
“Oh…um…s-sure,” Marinette lifted her umbrella to accommodate his taller frame. He ducked under but quickly discovered that she would shrink slightly from their proximity and cause the umbrella’s armatures to smack him in the head. With a gentle smile disguising his irritation, he offered to hold it for her, and she quickly acquiesced. They fell into a companionable silence as they walked. He knew he needed to say something, Adrien would obviously be chatting with her…
“So…what were you doing out in this storm, Marinette?”
“Oh…uh, I was out running a delivery for my parents.”
“Really? In this dreary weather?” Felix asked with obvious surprise.
“Dreary? No, I love the rain! There’s something magical about it…like having a million sparkles falling from the sky!” He watched as her eyes twinkled and he could almost imagine the raindrops glistening just from the brightness of her smile. “It’s special to me,” she finished with a blush.
“Is that why you were dancing in it when I saw you?” He chuckled remembering her hops and twirls on the sidewalk.
Her cheeks flushed dark red, her eyes dropped to her fidgeting hands, and her smile faded with her embarrassment. “Ooh…you saw that? I just…,” Marinette paused, unsure of how to proceed. “I’m not any good at dancing but…it’s fun,” she finished with a whisper.
Felix frowned at the change in her behavior, he clearly recalled their short dance together and her natural grace on the dancefloor. Perhaps she was just self-deprecating because she was intimidated by his cousin? Adrien would surely attempt to cheer up his friend – perhaps girlfriend – wouldn’t he? With not a second longer in hesitation, he stopped and held out his hand to the bluenette. She stared at it for a moment before turning her impossibly blue eyes toward him. “Could I have this dance?” Her eyes widened and she blushed, taking his hand bashfully. He handed her back the umbrella to hold over his shoulder as he wrapped her in his embrace. With a soft hum he began to lead her in a gentle waltz down the sidewalk.
Slowly but surely the warm smile returned and brightened before his eyes as he guided her into bigger and faster spins, keeping them both in tempo to the steps long ingrained in his limbs by dance instructors his mother had insisted he learn from – much to his dismay at the time. ‘I guess I’ll have to thank her now that those silly lessons were finally of some use,’ he thought while a grin spread unwittingly across his face. He lost himself to the movements of their dance, a comfortable warmth growing in his chest. In a rather large puddle he spun Marinette, her foot fanning out in a way that caused the standing water to splash in a great wave over the curb before she settled back into his arms for another set of steps with a giggle. The warmth grew as Felix dipped her, watching as her radiant smile turned up towards the heavens as raindrops danced across her face.
They progressed down the street, both of them smiling and laughing as their hair and shoulders were moistened by wayward drops that missed the umbrella. Eventually they slowed to a stop as they waited for the crosswalk light to change; he gazed down at her – noting the flushed pink cheeks, sparkling eyes, and wide smile. Felix wasn’t sure what came over him. He glanced down at her lips, parted and panting from their energetic dance, and suddenly wanted to know how they felt. With hooded eyes he leaned forward, his arm tightening around her waist as he felt her rise up slowly on her tip toes as if to meet him halfway…the umbrella dropped from her fingers as they slid to the short hairs on the back of his neck, but neither could find it in their minds to care about the rain falling on their heads…
Just as their lips were about to touch, a car came careening around the corner and hit the large puddle forming at the blocked drain. Felix quickly rotated them so that he would shield her with his body. Within seconds a massive, brackish tidal wave splashed over them both and left them drenched. Feeling the cold, dirty water sliding down his spine, the blond let out a string of English curses that even his mother would be ashamed of. Marinette seemed to jolt at the noise and stared at him while he pushed the very wet hair from his face – unconsciously putting it back into his normal style – as the heavy rain continued to pour on their heads. He missed the calculating look she gave him before that gave way to a small smile, then to a chuckle, then a full belly laugh. Felix looked at her dumbfounded before he, too, began to crack up at their situation.
“You look ridiculous,” she giggled out.
“You look like a drowned mouse!” Felix laughed back, unable to contain himself.
“At least I don’t look like an overgrown komondor!” They laughed harder, tears springing to their eyes as the rain plastered their hair to their heads.
‘When was the last time I laughed like this?’ both thought to themselves wryly.
They both eventually calmed down, wiping tears and hair from their eyes. He fished the umbrella from the sidewalk and shook some of the water free before offering it to Marinette. She shook her head and motioned for him to keep it. “My house is just a couple doors down from here. You need it more than I do. The mansion is just up this street,” the blue-eyed girl pointed down the adjacent road.
He furrowed his brow slightly, realizing that their stolen time was coming to an end; he found the warmth in his chest had turned to an ache – he would miss her presence. “You’re sure? At least let me walk you home.”
Marinette quickly shook her head, her wet pigtails flinging droplets of water with the motion. “I’ll be fine, besides you need to get back, so you don’t catch a cold.  We’re both soaked to the bone!” He watched as she hesitated for a moment before sliding in close, pulling him down by his shirt collar, and kissing his cheek. “Th-thank you for the dance, Felix.”
With a distant clap of thunder, a red flush crept up his neck and onto his face as her soft lips pressed against his cheek. In the seconds that it took for him to register her words, she had taken off at a full sprint and disappeared into the heavy rain – returning to the pink blur he first saw by that café. Felix stood there in the rain, speechless and flustered as he touched his cheek. He couldn’t say how long he stood there, staring off, but it was long enough that the downpour had finally become a light drizzle. He looked down at the umbrella in his hand as if looking for proof that this had not been a dream… He gripped the handle a little tighter. It was solid, tangible, real.
A small smile spread across his face. Perhaps his luck wasn’t so bad after all.
~~~ BONUS SCENE ~~~
On Friday after school, while Adrien took care of his extra Chinese lessons and the others were out of the house, Plagg decided to do a little reconnaissance. He carefully zipped across his holder’s room and phased through the wall, floating down the empty hallway until he got to the end. Once there he passed through the door and ducked behind a garbage can while he surveyed the room. A wicked gleam and mischievous grin lit up the kwami’s face; the room was empty!
It had been about two months since Tikki told him about the Adrien knockoff showing up with Duusu and making a mess of things. The London blond had been very combative with Ladybug but oddly protective of Marinette. Tikki was hopeful that Felix might be reformed and join their side – his other half was so optimistic like that. The cheese wheel was always half full with her!
Plagg though? He was a ‘it’s a half a damn wheel of cheese’ type of cat – he jokingly liked to say he was an ‘optipissed’: pissed off optimist. Could things go right? Sure, but things could also just be what they appear.
Plagg didn’t know if Adrien’s cousin was redeemable and didn’t care to figure it out; planning was Tikki’s thing. He preferred results. That’s why he decided to curse that fluffed-up popinjay with a little bad luck! Well, that was mostly because the tiny cat god wanted revenge. Tomato, potato. Right now, the cat kwami intended to get results by taking the peacock miraculous and get it to Pigtails ASAP. Plagg hoped that Felix had left it behind in a hidden compartment or spot in the room while not in use. If it was on his person, the black cat wasn’t sure what to do!
“Duusu!” the black cat called, “Hey Duusu! You in here?” There was no answer.
“Tsk. If I was a feather-brained, pompous, jerk face, where would I hide a broach?” Plagg asked himself as he looked around the room. He decided to check the desk first – rifling through the neat stacks of paper and pens – before dive bombing into the bed to phase through the mattress and pillows. No dice. He proceeded around the room, passing through lamps, tables, and books with increasing irritation. He didn’t even sense the miraculous nearby! He swatted a pillow with his tail in agitation.
Well, if he wasn’t going to get what he came for, he might as well enjoy himself…
Just then the door opened and Plagg hid himself inside a lampshade, watching with great suspicion as Gabriel entered the room to do his own snooping. The cat kwami stayed silent as his holder’s father dug through the closet and dresser, ripping apart jacket and suitcase linings in search of something. After about five minutes, Gabriel let out a soft growl and stalked back across the room to the door. With one last glance around the room, he slammed the door behind him.
‘Seems he didn’t find what he was looking for either!’ Plagg thought suspiciously, he wondered what the kid had stolen this time.
The black cat kwami slowly exited his hiding place, making sure no one would be near to hear his next actions. Then he phased into the closet and began to toss the remaining collection of trousers, vests, and pristinely pressed shirts all over the floor while he cackled with glee. When it was in proper upheaval, he gathered up one each of Felix’s socks from the dresser, called upon his cataclysm, leaving only a small pile of dust on the floor as evidence of their existence. Plagg then burrowed into the underwear drawer, intent to claw some holes in the materials there when the door opened again…
“Plagg?” came Adrien’s hesitant whisper.
Popping his head out the leg of a pair of boxer briefs with a cheesy belch, the kwami called back, “hey kid, I’m over here!”
Adrien quietly closed the door and stalked across the room, tripping on a shirt and unconsciously kicking up the small pile of ashes as he recovered his balance. Plagg watched with satisfaction as the ashes settled to litter a bigger portion of the floor. “What the hell are you doing in here? Felix will be home any minute!”
“Just lookin’ for the miraculous, kid. Figured we know sourpuss has got the peacock, perhaps he’d leave it unattended, then we could get it back to the guardian.”
“Did you have to make such a mess?” the blond pressed his hand to his forehead as he looked over the random piles and ripped items on the floor. “I’m already stuck doing that photoshoot tomorrow instead of hanging out with Nino; if Father thinks I destroyed Felix’s room, I’ll probably be grounded for life!”
Plagg landed on Adrien’s shoulder, “About that kid… I got an idea. Why don’t we…,” as he whispered quietly in his ear.
Adrien’s eyes lit up and he chuckled, gathering up a few pieces of clothes from the floor to use as his disguise in the morning. “That’s sure to put him in a fowl mood!”
~~~Author's Notes: yes I referenced a historical event (Great Flood of 1910), a specific breed of dog, and made a peacock pun.
I just had a twisted theory, maybe even crack theory but hear me out
What if Gabriel's wish was Adrien's?
Because once the wish is made, the next shot is Adrien opening his eyes
We get Adrien's pov and everything is pinky lighted
What if the wish was to make every single one of Adrien's wishes real
What if Adrien asked for his father to be a hero, for his life to be free and better
What if Ladybug wanted to tell the truth but Adrien's wishes interfered with it
And we don't see Plagg after the wish, just Tikki
What if Plagg knows the truth behind the death of Gabriel.
That in some part of Adrien's heart, he wished for his father to be gone.
Fics with major Alya focus that Alya fans should read
So it's hard to find fics where Alya's a central character, where she has a character arc, focus, development of her own to a significant degree, so I figured I'd rec some fics that Alya fans might appreciate! She's not necessarily the main character in all of them, but if she isn't the MAIN main character, then she's still a major character (and almost certainly POV character) in her own right in the fic. I'm only reccing completed fics for this, btw. If anyone knows the tumblr name for any of the authors involved, let me know!
Also I have a blog dedicated to Alya at alyappreciation, so check that out if you're interested!
In Direct Opposition by @generalluxun
Alya Cesaire is a brand new student to Francis Dupont, to Paris even. The first student she meets is one Chloé Bourgeois, and Alya is determined to make a friend. Things advance Chaotically. Her new 'friend' is definitely a handful, and suddenly Paris has a supervillain and two brand new superheroes! Alya finds herself balancing a lot of things, trying to live up to her ideals and those of her icons. And then reality seems to contradict itself. As time progresses it seems to happen more often. Becoming a hero, battling villains, staying alive, working through friendships. Something is lurking, tweaking events at times, changing them, and no one seems aware. Alya will need all her wits to get to the bottom of this. Her investigative mind can only get her so far though, and then she needs to rely on her friends. This is not a foe you can beat head on.
Accidents Are Also Miracles by @liiinerle
After some turbulent days that end with five people knowing her secret identity as Ladybug, Marinette loses faith in her ability to keep herself hidden. Wracked with doubts and insecurities, she pleads with Alya to take over as Scarabella, and tries to disconnect from heroing altogether. Along the way, she starts to date Kagami. Hard as she tries, though, she can't stop worrying - especially not once Monarch takes a particular, and personal, interest in her. At the same time, Alya tries to adjust to her new role while she works to uncover who Monarch really is, and makes some realisations about her own wishes. Kagami struggles against a controlling and abusive parent, and a girlfriend who seems bent on destroying herself - with or without Monarch's involvement. And in the meantime, Alix keeps popping her head back in with offers to help (because cool though time travel is, she misses hanging out in her own time). [Contains some spoilers for early s5 episodes, but otherwise diverges significantly from the plot of the season.]
A bit of her flirting with Marinette is bound to make Marinette's crushes jealous and finally ask her out! Her plan is fool-proof…! Except when it's not. Not enough people are talking about Scarabella flirting with Marinette. How can Alya properly help her best friend if the news can't be bothered to cover Marinette's budding romance with Scarabella and only posts things about Marinette with Chat Noir?! So Alya puts her all into her plan, upping up her flirting each time she appears as the newbie hero Scarabella. This totally does not backfire in any way.
Strangely Familiar by @sunfoxfic
Alya Césaire’s life is perfect. Indeed, between the success of the Ladyblog, how well she’s doing in school, and the fact that she’s a superhero who has never bore the weight of a crisis of epic proportions, her life almost couldn’t be better. Almost. But Alya has always been a go-getter, and so she’ll chase after that perfect life if it kills her. Which is how she ends up rushing to move out of her father’s apartment and in with Marinette, Adrien, and a complete stranger: Nino Lahiffe. And in fact, her life does seem perfect — she and Nino are fast friends. They spend a lot of time together and get to know each other really well. But in the end, fortunate situations will bear unfortunate truths, and she learns things about herself that aren’t quite comfortable. Like I said, though: Alya has always been a go-getter, and she won’t let new feelings deter her from chasing after her perfect life.
Look, I promise to chill if we go on this quest. Okay?" Nino narrows his eyes down at her pleading expression. This dialogue is suspiciously familiar. Somehow, he gets the feeling that this time will be different. And for some reason, he listens to that feeling. "You're lucky I like you," he concedes. Alya hip-checks him with a winning smile. Note- I'm using (POV) to mention who the 'camera' is following for the most part. Also I skim over things that happen nearly the same as in cannon.
Hawkmoth Re-design
Origins Part 1
(Hawkmoths POV)
 Starts the same with Nooroo explaining the miraculous and Hawkmoth’s first transformation, though we wouldn’t see him outside of his hands.  As the butterflies crowd him to transform a scream of pain rings from his throat.
(Fu’s POV)
Like before, Wayzz fills Master Fu in on the butterfly being active.  But I’m gonna pull from the movie's idea of letting Tikki and Plagg choose their own wielders.  Fu does bring them to the school though with the intent of choosing a young initiate.
(Marinette’s POV)
Marinette is 16 years old, this is her Junior year.
Marinette meanwhile has had a day of it.  Working herself up over everything she might need for her first day and nearly being late after reorganizing her bag for the 4th time that morning.  Finally, Sabine dragged her downstairs and Tom gave her the macarons.
(Adrien’s POV)
Adrien is also 16 at the moment.
Boy is forever trying to get educated but gets caught by Nathalie.
(Fu’s POV)
Master Fu briefly loses Plagg before seeing a black cat sitting on the back of Adrien’s car as it drives away.  Since he saw Adiren get in, and the boy’s face is all over Paris, he knows who his Cat is.
Marinette still saves Fu’s life as he had run into traffic looking for Plagg and paused in the middle of the road after seeing him.  Tikki jumps into Marinette’s bag while she’s picking up the macarons.
Content Fu heads home.
(Marinette's POV)
Chloe basically just says “Switch.”  And Marinette decides it honestly is not worth the hustle and does.  Alya introduces herself and berates Chloe’s actions to which Marinette shrugs and says, “I don’t really care, she probably has a reason.”
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good people to do nothing.”
“A nice rule, but remember you can’t judge someone evil based on their first impression.  You never know what they could be going through.”
(Adrein’s POV)
It fades to Adrien being told his father is busy and can’t scold him right now.  Once Adrien goes back to his room he finds a cat sitting on his table, confused he tries to approach it but the animal just bounds away.  But on the table still, is a ring box.
(Ivan’s POV)
Que Kim and Ivan’s argument.  A black butterfly lands on the crumpled up paper.  All that we see or hear is the mask appearing on Ivan’s face and Hawkmoth's voice.  “Stoneheart, I am Hawkmoth.  You feel unsupported, and unseen.  Allow me to harden your heart and take that pain away.”
(Adrein’s POV)
Adrien is observing the ring when a quiet meow is heard behind him.  The cat is balanced in the back of his couch and looks between the ring and Adrien.
“You want me to put it on?”  He asks and gets a purr in return.   He does and there is a flash of light.
(Marinette’s POV)
Worrying herself to death over Alya chasing the monster, but too scared to follow her.  Marinette finds a box that had fallen out of her bag.  A ladybug lands on the box.
“Bug Mouse!”  And the cup things.
As Tikki explains, Marinette is working herself into a fit.  She’s terrified, but Tikki assures her that very little harm can come to her in the suit.  That she’ll have a partner to help her, and that it will give her a chance to protect Alya.  Unwilling to not even try when an innocent person is being puppeteered by an evil asshole she agrees.
Ladybug Re-design
Chat Noir Re-design
Key Power differences:
Ladybug:
Lucky Charm is specifically stated to give you a solution, not just an object.  The object is only to point you in the right direction.
Purification allows her to cleanse the akuma.
Miracle Cure allows the world to heal from and injuries caused by a miraculous  (Only Physical Damage) "Miraculous *Insert Name*"
Cat:
Cataclysm can either turn an object to dust or cause it to stop functioning.
Purgation destroys the dark energy in an akuma
Miracle Purge allows the world to burn out any effects a miraculous had on a person (Only works on Non Physical Effects) "Miraculous *insert Name*"
(Marientte’s POV)
They meet about the same way as cannon.  The fight up to a point is pretty similar, except Marinette is very thinly veiling her utter panic with humor.  Chat picks up on this and starts cracking jokes to help put her at ease.
After breaking the akumatized object they part ways, but the butterfly goes “Oops, bye bitch.”
Tikki’s like- “So you got the akuma right?  Right?”
“I can’t do this Tikki, I couldn’t even listen long enough to know what my one job was.  There are two many bad things that could happen, and all I can think about is how I can continue to mess things up in the future.  Paris doesn't need a Ladybug who can’t trust herself.  You deserve better.”
She removes the earrings and puts them back in the box.
Marinette goes to sleep with plans to give up the miraculous to Alya in the morning.
 The akuma is targeting people who had been rejected or feel unseen, turning them to stone more medusa style statues than Stoneheart’s golem influences.
Marinette wakes up late that night to the miraculous in its box buzzing, asking to be let out.
She goes to beg Tikki to please choose someone else.  Except when she picks up the box the earrings shoot from the box.  It leads her down and out of the house.  To a stone woman frozen in misery.
Marinette can’t stand to see someone suffering like this and tells herself she’ll do what she can to help until either Stoneheart is defeated or she can hand the miraculous off to Alya.
Origins Part 2.
In the morning, Marinette finally returns home to get ready for school.  She was up all night finding every akuma still loose and catching it.  She tells her parents she just went for an early morning run (technically true) and is okay, she is late for school though.
On TV she see’s Ivan has once again been re-akumatized, after trying to read Mylene his poem when they both got to school.  Knowing Alya will be chasing the akuma Marinette chugs some coffee and chases him too.
When Alya gets trapped Chat Noir is captured, same as cannon, she decides to be Ladybug just a little longer.
(Though she finds a hiding place first, gosh cannon Alya was like 20 feet away)
As Ladybug chases down Stoneheart she catches Chloe after she is thrown from the Eiffel tower.
Hawkmoth does not do the floating head thing.  Instead Stoneheart mentions that the butterfly that made him strong wants the miraculous.
Officer Raimcomprix tells Chat Noir that they’ve already failed one.
Chat Noir scoffs.  “No shit.  We’re two teenagers in spandex.  Of course we're gonna make mistakes.  But you don’t really have a choice but to trust us.  Because you can’t beat this thing, and we can.”
He turns to face Stoneheart.
“I know you can hear me, you’ll be looking through his eyes right?  Well listen up little Papillion.  I don’t know what you want, what drove you to this.  But I'll give you a bit of a friendly tip, you messed up.  Because you chose to prey on an innocent teenager, tried to force him to nearly kill Chloe Bourgeois, and attacked the girl he loves.  You’ve definitely made a mistake, bigger than either of ours.  Because you honestly thought that we would roll over and let you get away with it.”
Ladybug, in awe of her partner's confidence even in the face of failure, starts planning how to take out Stoneheart.
They do the kiss thing and both teens are rescued safely.  Ladybug catches the akuma and uses the Miracle Cure to fix the damage and bring the stone people back to themselves.
Chat asks to meet with Ladybug to talk about their new jobs later that night.
When Marinette arrives back at school she meets Adrien.  Because Nathalie is awesome.
+x+
“So you’re the rival Chloe’s told me so much about?”
Marinette floundered a little at the son of her favorite fashion designer, and a supermodel in his own right, stuck his hand out.  “A- Adrien.  You’re Adrien Agreste.”
He winced a little.  “Yeah that’s me.”
Somehow the girl managed to snap herself out of the stupor enough to shake the boy's hand.
“Adrikins,”  Chloe called.  “Come on, I need to show you around before class starts.”
Marinette was in a daze all the way back to Mme. Bustiers class.  She just met Adrien Agreste, the Adrien Agreste.  And she was a total spaz about it.
She sat down in her seat and placed her head on the desk.
She didn’t remember the seat change until Chloe reemerged with her friends in tow.
“Move.”  She told Marinette.
Marinette really didn’t want to do that.  She didn’t want to be next to Adrien where she could potentially embarrass herself more.  If he told his father about the mess of a girl in his class her dreams would be crushed before they even got off the ground.
(It is of course bold of Mari to assume Adrien’s father speaks to his son.)
Maybe- maybe if she was going to stand up for herself as Ladybug, at least until she found a better candidate, then starting as Marinette would help.
“No.”  She said plainly.  “It’s my seat, and I don’t really want to.”
She clenched her hands into her jeans as Chloe raised an eyebrow.
“Whatever.  This isn’t worth my time.”  Chloe sighed like she had just wasted precious hours on that interaction.
Marinette let out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding.
Alya slid into the seat next to her and grinned triumphantly.  “Nice job girl.”
Marinette smiled back, but it was shaky.  She hadn’t slept last night and was really starting to feel it.
“So girl, check this out.”  Alya held up her phone.
On it was a blog template with red and black spots covering it.
“The Ladyblog?”  Marinette read the title at the top.
Alya practically squealed in excitement.  “Isn’t it cool?  Since your’s truly got the best footage on the attack I thought I’d start my own blog.  The one stop spot for everything Ladybug.”
“What about Chat Noir?”  Marinette mused.  “He’s super cool, Ladybug just kinda fumbles around after him.”
“Don’t be like that.”  Alya pushed the girl’s shoulder.  “Ladybug was the one to come up with the plan to save the day both times.  And she saved me today.”
Marinette wished she could point out that Chat Noir had saved Alya twice, but that would reveal that she was there.
“But you are right, I need to think up something good for Chat Noir.”  Alya leaned back.
+x+
(Adrien POV)
Vibing, waiting for the car.  Marinette comes outside and waits too.
Adrien’s like, “Hey.”
And Marinette apologizes for being a spaz.  Explaining that she was just caught off guard and that she didn’t mean to make him uncomfortable.
Adrien explains that he’s pretty used to it, and laments that no matter where he goes people will always know him before ever speaking to him.
“I almost don’t even know how to act in public.  I wanna make friends but- I feel like people will only ever see the boy on the posters.  …  Sorry, that’s kind of a lot to dump on a stranger.”
Marinette paused.  “You shouldn’t have to deal with that.  I can’t change the fact that people know who you are.  But we are still kind strangers.  So- Hi, I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
He chuckles at her outstretched hand.  “Hello, I’m Adrien Agreste.”  He shakes her hand and smiles.
“So, you’re new to the school?  What do you think of Mme. Bustier?”
(Fu’s POV)
He watches on as Ladybug and Chat Noir meet each other for the first time, again.  Making idle small talk until the same car from before arrives to take Adrien home.
Before getting in the teen hands Marinette his umbrella with a parting goodbye.
Wayzz asks if he came to check in because he questioned Tikki and Plagg’s choice.
Fu admits that he was worried, but he needn’t be.  Those two will help each other, in and out of the mask.  They’ll be okay.
(Ladybug’s POV)
Ladybug meets Chat at the Eiffel tower.
She tells him how much his words of confidence helped her, since she had been so upset about her failure she forgot that mistakes are not the end of everything.  So long as you try and fix them.
She confides that she’s still considering giving up the Ladybug miraculous, since she’s worried her catastrophizing will cause her to be overwhelmed and fail.
“Well m’ lady.  I know a thing or two about Cat-astrophizing.  And if you promise not to give up just yet, then I promise to help keep you from spiraling.  Deal?”
She agrees to keep trying.
END
Okay let's get into the details.
1. Hawkmoth's transformation hurts like a bitch. His head is full on splitting open to make way for the butterfly wings, that's part of his face. He's spending most of his time lying on the floor in too much pain to move until Ivan get's akumatized.
2. Marinette will have the first suit design, with the plain suit and boots. Chat Noir will also have his first design, but his is a bit more interesting than LB's since Adrien has a little more faith in himself.
3. Since I'm overhauling Chloe's personality there was no reason for the gum incident, so I just dropped it all together. There would have been 0 purpose. Instead their rough start is caused by Marinette having a fairly normal reaction to meeting a super model who is also your idol's son. She does feel bad about it later, but Adrien harbored no ill will.
4. Around here is when the crush starts developing, but it's just that. A crush, she has the vague idea that she might like Adrien, but she doesn't know him super well yet.
5. Fu, you bastard. He really does think choosing two legal children is a good idea. I'll partially blame the Order of Guardians, but he knew what he was doing. Children are more likely to believe that they are just "The Chosen Ones" and not question anything, or wonder gave them the miraculous. Tikki and Plagg actually don't like that they had to choose two teenagers, but they aren't going to take that out on the kids. Fu's probably gonna get hot sauce in his tea curtesy of Wayzz for pulling that though.
Note
I would love to see snippets from your au!! 👀
Info for the AU!
-I’ve been calling it “Confidant” / “ConfidantAu” and it’s in Chloe’s POV
-Chloe redemption arc
-Chloe knows Adrien is Chat
-Adrien and Chloe found family is a big thing
-Endgame Luka x Chloe x Kagami, or uh, Luklogami (I think that’s it)
((I may edit this ask and add more info later ;) ))
Here are two snips I’m working on for it.
——
First one
——
“I don’t think she’s coming back” Chloe says out loud, hands pressed firmly against her cheeks as she stares blankly at her homework.
She’s been trying for months to get back into the habit of doing it on her own, and having someone around helps, but even as she stares at her half finished set of notes, she can’t find it within herself to return back to them.
Adrien looks up from his work, he’s laying down on his stomach, Plagg resting on the space on his back. He looks up at her before propping himself up on his forearms, pushing his papers to the side. “What brought this on?”
She purses her lips. “I don’t know, I think I’m just doom-spiraling. That’s what you call it right?” She leans back against her bed frame and closes her eyes.
“Do you know what triggered it?” Adriens sitting up now. Plagg rolls off his back and zips to his hair.
and Chloe feels guilt building up in her gut, the same way she does everytime she makes a point to humiliate her classmates, he snuck out to be here and now sitting and he’s listening to her vent. Ugh.
“I uh, I tried talking to Marinette again today” she picks at the seam on her leggings. “It im, it didn’t go well, it hasn’t anytime I’ve tried. She always thinks it’s a joke or I’m making fun at her expense. I can never get a minute to talk to her. I think she’s started to avoid me now” she laughs sadly.
“It just feels like mothe- Audrey follows me everywhere, even when I’m trying to fix the mess I made”
Adrien sighs, pushing up to lean against the bed frame next to her. “I mean, that makes sense though right? You haven’t been exactly nice to Marinette.” He presses his shoulder against hers. “It sucks though, I get that, it took me a while to be able to apologize to her too, and she hasn’t known me for years.
“Do you want me to talk to her? Convince her that you’re being genuine”
Chloe shakes her head, “no, I got myself in this mess, it’s about time I take care of it”
Adrien hums, and wraps an arm around her shoulder. She can feel a purr reverberating from his chest.
She leans forward to rest her in her hands again. “I just wish it was easier.”
——
Second snippet
——
Chloe brushes the nonexistent dust from the lapel of her blazer, leaning to the side to be closer to Kagami. She has somehow managed to convince the fencer to go out on a shopping trip with her.
The girl next to her, like a lot of the others, was still convinced that she was an annoying brat. And she could be, that’s true. But she was trying to expand herself past that, you know?
They pass a thrift store and Chloe feels an old feeling ick crawl up her spine. The place reeks of strong perfume and old fabrics.
She inwardly holds her breath, trying to not seem off put as she gestures Kagami towards the store.
Adrien had said she should try to experience new things, and this was a very new thing. Besides, Kagami’s mother probably didn’t want her to be there either, which made it slightly more appealing to the blonde.
Kagami raises a brow, expression a curious neutral as they enter the building. “I didn’t think you were into this sort of thing, Chloe. Seems like,” Kagami takes a cardigan in between her fingers, rubbing the fabric against her skin, “it’s something you would be against”
Chloe huffs, walking towards a rack of clothes labeled ‘prom’. “It is, but I’m trying to get into trying new things, and for as much as I dislike these places, I’ve never actually been to one.
“I don’t know if you’ve been to one either, so I figured, why not, right?” Chloe finds herself going on, so she bites her tongue.
Out of the corner of her eye, Chloe thinks she sees the other girl smile. And carefully cataloged the moment as a win in her book.
“I have not been to a place like this” Kagami admits. “It’s an interesting place.” Kagami has another piece of fabric in her hands, a bright red blazer with gold trim and teal accents, Chloe thinks it suits her.
She snaps out of her thoughts when Kagami catches her eye, and starts mindlessly looking at the dresses in front of her.
They aren’t as bad as she thought. Mostly just new or rarely used items.
She finds a bluff dress with golden trim around the sleeves and neckline and holds it up against her.
“I think that would look very good on you” Kagami says from behind her and Chloe almost jumps out of her skin.
“You think?” Chloe says with a carefully crafted smile, red burning onto her cheeks, and vaguely she’s glad for the large amount of makeup she had on.
“I do” Kagami says honestly, before looking to her side. Do you think they have a dressing room here? I would like to see you try it on.”
Chloe flushes again, looking around as well, before spotting a small line of stalls against the far wall. “I think so, but if I try it on, you have to try on the blazer, it’s definitely your color.” She smirks, pushing her hair behind her shoulder.
Kagami gives a small smile back, turning to grab the blazer off the hanger. “Sounds like a fair deal.”
These are both going to be scenes in the full fic but for now they’re just oneshots/one offs
Feel free to ask any questions :)
WIP Reblog Game
Thanks for the tag @wehadabondingmoment :)
I confess I haven't re-blogged just because the thread was getting long.
List the titles your top five priorities for WIP updates (link your fics for new readers!)
An upcoming scene, event, or detail in each fic that you're looking forward to writing
Bonus: make a poll for your followers to vote on which top 5 WIP they are most excited to see an update on!
Then tag 10 writer friends!
WIP TITLES - please do read tags for alllll of them
Where We Find Ourselves Again - Book 3 of my Breaking Free series, which started as my own S5 and then spiralled hard
Dreaming Wide Awake - Post-S5 fic focused on Adrien in the aftermath of the Wish - he really does need a hug
Finding a Way - Jurassic Park / Camp Cretaceous AU - Adrinette are stuck on an island, trying to survive, while evading dinosaurs
A Whole New World - Aladdin AU where Adrien is the 'princess' and Marinette is 'Aladdin' - I think the stars of the fic have turned out to be Gabriel and Plagg, a pairing that brought me endless amusement to write
All That Is Necessary - a Gone AU co-written with @raspberrycatapult - everyone aged 15+ has disappeared and the kids have to find a way to survive...then strange things start happening....
UPCOMING
I can't wait to start posting Breaking Free #4, so everyone can see just how far I've taken certain ideas posed earlier in the series. Also, I'm so looking forward to having Felix as a main POV character.
I've started planning out the details of Breaking Free #5. After that's all posted, I GET TO THINK ABOUT OTHER THINGS!!!
In the coming months, I'm going to focus on finishing my Nathalie backstory fic FINALLY. I'm currently fleshing out the details of my outline, right to the last chapter.
I'm also fleshing out my outline for a Felix backstory POV fic, like his side of the whole Miraculous story, including when he was a child. It will parallel the Nathalie story, so the two interact in places and you get multiple perspectives.
I've already thought up my fic idea for the 2024 ML Big Bang!
I can't think of 10 new people to tag. @wehadabondingmoment already stole mine haha
Wait! I lie. I don't remember seeing @mysticraven20!
Just watched the Miraculous movie!
and wow what a hot mess!!
warning!! spoilers below!!!!!!
First of all, that's not Adrien/CN. His appearance as CN was ooc and so.. annoying and for what? The romance between the characters is so skewed and unbelievable. The series handled the dynamic between the two and their first meeting much better, although where the movie wins is that they didn't make Marinette an obsessive stalker. The overall plot was pretty weak and so were the roles of the supporting cast (chloe, alya, nino, mari's parents, etc).
Marinette's hero arc and emotional exploration was much better handled in origins than the movie. The aspiration and intentions of the characters were stronger in the series. The way the movie handled the CHOSEN ONE situation was also so iffy and forced. Per Origins, we know adrienette got the miraculous because they were there to help Master Fu when no one else would, sacrficing their personal goals (ruining the macaroons, getting into school) to help a stranger. It's one of the cores of the show- that everyone can be a hero by doing good with or without a miraculous. In the movie, Adrien didn't even get that. The miraculous just appeared in his room. The movie, although yes it had less time, sort of failed to show Marinette's ambitions. For example, wanting to be a fashion designer- it was just shown she drew and designed some dresses but that was it.
Also plagg... my god they ruined him... wasn't expecting all the fart jokes but I guess that's what kids (lets remind ourselves they are the target audience) find funny or something.
HOWEVER they did the funniest thing ever by giving past Gabriel some long locks I laughed out loud when this scene came on
Tumblr media
like??? what even ??????????
On the other hand the visuals and animation were so good! Especially the rendering of the buidlings!! The magician's zappy effects!! They even gave mari's pjs some fuzz which was such a minor thing but such an amazing detail to include!
Tumblr media
Anywyays, I am trying to look at the movie from the POV of someone who has not watched the series, without the biases of the characters' original personalities. I think the impact of the show would be even weaker honestly- maybe a decent thing to watch to pass the time but definitely not breaking any grounds.
Fanfic Author 20 Questions
Thanks to @erisluna35 for sending this along! 1. How many works do you have on AO3?
On AO3? Right now 63, soon to be 64(tomorrow probably) and a couple on FF.net
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,020,860 on AO3 plus another ~86K fic I never ported over to AO3, as my 'recent' stuff, starting back in 2021
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Miraculous Ladybug, I did others a long time ago before joining AO3, but that was a long time ago. I've considered a couple others recently too, but nothing yet.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
At The Gala- A Chlonette fic inspired by fanart, and actually the sequel to my #2 by Kudos. This is just a cute series of strange interactions with Chloe from Marinette's PoV, culminating in understanding and discovery on a fated evening.
Slippery slope- Little Chlonette ficlet inspired by a fanart. Very short, it's about how a single unexpected moment can change someone's entire world.
Ever After- A long chapter fic set more than a decade post-canon that looks into the idea that 'Ever After' can be a long time, and that expecting life to be solved at 14 is a recipe for eventual disaster. Yet at the same time life continues to offer new experiences, new possibilities, and new ways to grow. Ships include Adrienette, Chloadrien, and Felinette.
Showing Love- An alternate ending to Queen Wasp, where instead of reuniting Chloé with her horrible mother by highlighting everything horrible about her (seriously, what?) Marinette comes face to face with the reality that a mother really *can* not love a child. Being Marinette she can't let such a thing stand, even if it is Chloé. Marinette&Dupain-Cheng family goodness.
What Do you See?- Adrigami fic that kicks off right in the middle of Kuro Neko. While Adrien is struggling with the pain of giving up Cat Noir, one thing crosses his mind. He can finally give one important person the truth she deserves. After all, he *Was* Cat Noir, not *is*. The two both struggle to navigate the ramifications of this revelation, especially when Plagg shows up once more with the ring. (there's a little bit of eventual Lukanette)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to respond to most, especially any questions or curiosities. I love engagement.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh heck this is so not fair. I am in love with bittersweet ending, and have a couple of doozies.
I can't decide between three.
What Happened- The 'real reason' Chloé Bourgeois's redemption arc failed. What do you di when you do everything right, only to find out your happiness causes the end of the world, in every timeline?
A Modest Proposal- Marinette is happily impatient for Adrien to finally propose to her. Little does she know, a secret long kept is going to come back to haunt her. It's worse than you think.
The Risk Outweighs- A look into someone else's life during the episode 'Risk'. The courage to do anything finally gives Chloé the strength to break from the cycle. But the Ladybugs must set things right, and a few moments of clarity weigh nothing against a lifetime.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again, lots with happy endings, though I prefer 'open' endings, so...hmmm
Cafe Noir- has an unambiguously happy ending, but I specifically set out to write a romcom so that feels like cheating.
Dog Daze- probably has the most comprehensively happy ending, Adrien's dad even managed to try to parent. They do go through a lot on the way to the happy ending though.
In Direct Opposition- My latest work, seems to end on a solidly happy note for all involved.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Ever After drew some upset people that expected their OTP to be the main ship. I never tried to deceive anyone, but a few people were just really upset.
I also had this weird thing where someone thought I was someone else, and stalked my comments for a while. That's why I use moderation now.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I've done M rated fics. I'm not sure 'smut' works for them, even if there's lots of sex narratively, it's usually mentioned rather than being detailed. I did one single 'this will be a smut fic' fic. And even that ended up with like, 5K words mostly plot, and about 2 paragraphs of (I think emotional and important) sex.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Nah, I've never had the crossover itch. I generally find each world intriguing enough on their own.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of...
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yep! I had someone ask if they could translate one of my fics to Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope. Talked about it before, but never went through with it. Not against the idea. I do a lot of rubber ducking for my friends though, so some of my ideas can end up in their finished fics.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm going ot have to go with adribrina, my goobers. I like exploring all kinds of ships, and these two I threw together on a whim but Oh, they're so comfy! I wrote Puppy Love to see how they would work, and then that evolved into Dog Daze, my Largest work to date. I had *intended* for them to amicably break up and Sabrina to be a wing-woman to Adrien in the canon ship of Adrienette.... but they just did not want to break up. Even if they wouldn't admit they were dating, they were just too *comfy* together. These two make me happy. (Marinette ended up okay though, she's happy!)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
A third fic in my Senti-Sentai AU. 'Worlds Collide'. It was set in 'vague eastern Europe country in the middle of violent conflict' and then that suddenly got too real, too quickly.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Character voice. I write third person limited, and I've been told many times that I do a very good job of writing characters as their canonical selves, just in different situations that bring about different outcomes or changes in them. I consider that a high compliment, because the characters are what I am here for.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Brevity. Even simplistic plots 'enemies to friends road trip' become detailed 'Marinette manipulates Chloé into chasing Adien and Lila across the globe to prevent Lila from wheedling an arranged Marriage out of Gabriel' and then that blossoms into a 98K fic.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I feel like my last of understanding grammar and colloquialisms for another language would have me sounding like bad google translate. Singular words used? Viable.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
SWATKats. My first ever fanfic was a 30K fic about that show.
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
They are all my babies! This is so not fair. I've spoken about some of my favorites earlier though, so I'll use this spot to mention some other ones :)
He's Perfect- Gothic Horror Adrienette! It even has a sequel and an entire AU in my head if I can circle back.
The Orphan and the Marionette- Written to feel like one of Grimm's fairy tales. Chlonette(kind of) with a heavy dose of magic and a surprise appearance from Marianne.
There are so many more but I'll plug Dog Daze again, because I to like how it flows and the alternate S5 we get from it. It also inspired a raft of 'post story' one shots, and I have another chapter fic waiting in the wings to continue the AU. There's plenty of stories to tell here.
@taketwoinink Tag, if you would like to play.
~~~ Felix POV: 10 Years Later ~~~
Felix limped through the graveyard towards the familiar tree on the nearby hill. The wind rustled through the grass and whipped up the fallen leaves that crunched beneath his cane. He paused to tuck some longer strands of blond hair behind his ear, closing his eyes as he took in the peaceful stillness that exuded from this place. Releasing a sigh, he closed the distance to the lone headstone and bench beneath the shade of the tree; settling down in a way that would lessen the muscle stiffness that lingered from his old injury. Tikki solemnly drifted from his jacket pocket to rest upon the cold stone, paying her silent respects.
He let his gaze stray over the hilltop and down the embankment covered in marble markers before dragging them back to the one directly in front of him. “It’s been ten years now,” he declared quietly. “It still feels like yesterday when we lost you. I still struggle to put into words how big of a hole you have left in my—no, our lives, to express the sheer guilt I hold for your death…”
“Felix, it’s not your fault—” the red kwami murmured softly.
He cleared his throat and rubbed his now damp eyes, “I know it isn’t my fault, Tikki, but I wish I had known…I could have shared the burden!” Taking a shaky breath, he readdressed the letters carved into the surface. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there enough for you. I know you don’t blame me. The years haven’t made your loss any easier, but it has improved. I try not to let the past haunt me…sometimes I can’t help it.” Felix allowed his mind to drift as he stared off, delving into those sensitive memories once more.
~~~ Flashback ~~~
By the time the storm broke, Marinette had not regained consciousness, however her breathing had evened out and color had started to return to her face. Tikki’s healing ability took care of the life-threatening injuries and had stabilized her Chosen. There was still concern about the loss of consciousness and obvious concussion. Would there be brain damage? She would need to be watched for any behavioral changes or sudden mood swings. Could the heal factor even assist with cognitive impairments? So much was unknown.
He replaced the vest and slung her satchel over one shoulder, making sure the peacock miraculous was firmly attached to the inside lining of his pocket. Now came the hard part. Carefully maneuvering her limp body gently through the opening of his amok shelter, he breathed a sigh of relief when Marinette’s head cleared the narrowed entry. Most of the shed had been blown away by the winds once the roof caved in, making it only small enough for one person to exit at a time. Recalling the amok would have simply left the timbers to fall down onto the two teens. Placing her back into a bridal hold, the blond gripped the designer’s body tightly to make sure he would not drop her as he pieced his way through the debris. Looking around, he saw residents beginning to emerge from their homes and digging through wreckage for lost items or people. The sky was ridiculously clear – if it were not for the large pools of flood water and blown down branches, not a single cloud in the sky belied the storm that had just raged.
He looked over at Duusu, “Do you have enough power for one more transformation? I want to get her to the hospital as soon as possible.”
“Of course, Master! I can probably hold it for at least five minutes,” she chirped.
“Perfect. Duusu, spread my feathers!” The purple light washed over him once again, leaving Argos holding an unconscious Marinette. Immediately his miraculous beeped its initial warning and he turned to Tikki. “Hide in my hood for now, we’ll get you both into the satchel when we arrive.” The ladybug kwami hurried to hide and nuzzled herself into the crook of his neck, the warm pressure seemed to lessen the exhaustion he was feeling. Magenta eyes turned steely with resolve; he launched himself onto the nearest roof, glancing about for landmarks made him realize how far off course the two had been blown. Another beep, three minutes.
Argos made quick work of locating a still operational hospital and his transformation made travel quick, the peacock holder just hoped that he was not jarring the bluenette with each leap. Even with his flashy outfit, not many people were looking upwards and, for those that had, they would only see a brief blur as he sprinted past. His miraculous beeped again, two minutes. He stopped on the edge of a rooftop of an apartment building and looked into the neighboring alleyway: it was clear of debris, water, and people. Perfect. He hopped down and whispered his detransformation phrase, seeing a weary peacock kwami settle on the ground from the corner of his eye, her energy spent. Immediately he felt each small bruise and wound on his skin, but Marinette’s weight in his arms refocused his thoughts upon the task at hand. “Tikki, help Duusu into the satchel. Stay quiet. I’ll try to get you both a snack once we’ve gotten checked in.”
The moment Felix was sure the two were settled, he briskly walked out of the alley and down a couple storefronts to the emergency entrance. It was packed with people, but a triage nurse spied the head wound of his ward and flagged him over to one of only a few open stretchers. He assisted the nurse in cleaning and holding Marinette’s head so they could wrap the wound. However, when he tried to settle her into a lying position, he felt a tug that prevented him from standing straight. The blond glanced down to find a pale hand gripping one edge of his vest; the unconscious girl’s face pinched in pain. Unable to dislodge or remove those fingers, Felix sighed before guiding his body onto the hard bed and around her. The nurse came back by with an emergency blanket, only raising a brow at the two cuddling teens before rushing off again. He could hear the two kwami giggling at his predicament but, seeing the lines on her forehead smooth and body relax with his proximity, he suddenly couldn’t find it in himself to care.
“Don’t complain when I’m not the blond you were expecting, Dotty,” he whispered in her ear while pulling her close under the blanket.
It had taken a good twenty-four hours before Marinette awoke and she was far too weak to try to move. Once they had cleared the air over her other identity – the subsequent panic attack was heavily muted by her concussion, preventing her from a full doom spiral – he had worked tirelessly to get in touch with her family. Her phone was trashed and waterlogged, her mind a jumble of pain, so he called Adrien. The model had helped contact their parents and insisted on flying Marinette back on Gabriel’s private jet. By the time the plane was ready, and Adrien had convinced his bodyguard to visit, the two had finally been cleared for release.
Unfortunately, Felix also got to meet Lila Rossi. The snake had wrapped herself around the model’s arm and insisted on visiting her ‘dear classmate.’ If his cousin had noticed how unusually protective the peacock holder was, always making sure to stand between Marinette and Rossi, never leaving them alone – though she certainly had tried – and refusing to leave the injured teen’s side…Adrien never mentioned it. After what the Fathom heir had learned from the bluenette and her kwami, he wasn’t willing to take any chances. Even without that information, he got a strange vibe from the Italian that told him she was definitely bad news. Felix had quickly decided to become the ladybug wielder’s permanent protector – even if that meant putting himself in the line of fire for his uncle’s attacks. He resolved to create a disguised sentimonster lapel pin for Marinette to wear so he could know of her current wellbeing without putting her directly in danger with Argos’ constant presence.
However, when they arrived back in France, the young designer’s concussion healed as expected and she was not the one whose behaviors were of concern. Adrien had begun acting strangely. He distanced himself from his friends, fencing teammates, and even his girlfriend; instead choosing to spend more time with Rossi. Felix could see the strain around the model’s eyes each time the liar wrapped herself around him possessively. He had approached the other blond privately, trying to figure out what was going on, but his cousin smiled sadly and simply said:
“…I’m doing what I have to, Fe.”
Meanwhile, Chat Noir started to appear less and less during fights. He could feel the strain on the bug heroine with each battle and started to assist from the shadows as much as he could while trying to keep his connection with the team under wraps. Argos couldn’t afford to accidentally lead Monarch to Ladybug. When the cat-themed hero did appear, the atmosphere was strained between the ying-yang miraculous holders. There was a massive imbalance in their dynamics! Chat tried to be chummy with Argos but, due to the nature of the secret alliance, it was difficult to form any sort of bond. Once they had recovered a few other Miraculi, Argos began strategizing with Ladybug over new allies.
“I trust you, Argos, to choose wise and strong holders.” The bug heroine’s words had left him being inordinately warm in a way that he had only felt with his mother before. Trusted, welcome, considered, camaraderie…now he felt ridiculous for how in denial he had been at the time.
You see, through the lapel pin and his own miraculous powers, the peacock holder could feel that the pain Marinette experienced was growing with each passing day. Deciding to be proactive against a possible akumatization, Argos took to secretly spending time with the young designer in hopes of alleviating some of those pent-up negative emotions. It started only on days when her feelings were at their highest, then a scheduled couple of days a week, and finally almost every evening was spent either in her room or on her small balcony. He would detransform and they would discuss her latest designs or book he was reading, sometimes opening up about themselves. The taciturn blond began to look forward to their time together, even the companionable silences where only the whirring of her sewing machine and the crinkle of pages filled the air. Over time, Felix realized he was developing a crush on Marinette but kept it to himself, unwilling to be the homewrecker in his cousin’s relationship. Their friendship was more important.
Then the night he feared most came to pass. There was such emotional upheaval in all of Paris, Felix was sure there would have been another Scarlett Moth incident had it not been for Uncle Gabriel’s fashion show related absence. As he struggled to process the tidal wave of emotional input crashing into him, the chain on his neck turned ice cold and began to aggressively vibrate against his chest. Something was horribly wrong with Marinette! His transformation words were out of his mouth as he leaped from his window, furiously pushing himself to be faster and not caring if anyone saw him as Argos soared over rooftops. Any images of him from that night only show a purple blur as he had rushed to her in a panic.
‘I’m coming, Dotty! Please wait for me!’
He could see her precariously leaning back against her railing and, for a moment, he was afraid she was going to fall. Then her phone slipped from her grasp, knees trembling as tears rolled down her extremely pale face, and his senses went haywire as she went into a full-blown meltdown. Then he feared it would be more of a jump than an accident. Argos landed just in time to catch her as Marinette’s knees collapsed, pressing her face into his chest to quiet the ear-piercing, heart-rendering, screeching sobs that wracked her small frame. Just the noise alone felt like a hundred daggers impaling his heart. He wrapped his whole body around her, trying to make her feel safe and protected. Argos scanned the rooftop for anything that might have caused her distress, his eyes landing on the dim phone screen displaying an image that made his blood boil…
There was Adrien, clinging to some unknown redhead in a revealing dress and shoving his tongue down her throat on a secluded hotel balcony. The headline read:
EXCLUSIVE: ADRIEN AGRESTE OFF THE MARKET?
ROMANTIC DATE BECOMES HEATED NIGHTTIME TRYST!
He stared at the phone in anger until the screen went black. ‘I can’t do anything about that now…’ He dropped his gaze to the bluenette in his arms, hearing her painful sobs slowly turning to hoarse whispers. ‘She’s my priority.’ Tikki appeared from the attic room below, worried eyes flicked from her holder to the hatch before the little red goddess returned from whence she came. Argos was always amazed at the immense connection that Marinette had with every kwami, especially her own, as they seemed to feel the most intense affection for the young Guardian. Even Duusu seemed to favor the blue-eyed girl over Felix; although he suspected that was more for the berry tartlets the bakers’ daughter fed her than anything else. And now that same ladybug kwami – that had looked at him so defiantly in that shed all those months ago – trusted him with the safety of her most precious Chosen. To be trusted by the Goddess of Creation was a high honor for a betrayer, such as he, to earn. Looking back down to the tear-stained teen in his arms, he wondered if that meant he had finally earned the bluenette’s trust as well…
Argos waited until Marinette’s sobs died out and became soft snores, having worn herself out from crying, before carefully picking her up bridal style and taking her back to her room. The chain around his neck remained cold but was no longer buzzing, hopefully the worst was now over. He tucked her under her covers, brushing hair away from her eyes, as the two rescued kwami snuggled into the crook of the Guardian’s neck to comfort her. Tikki floated beside him, sorrowful eyes affixed upon her holder. Unable to help himself, Argos leaned down and pressed a lingering kiss to her brow. ‘Rest well, my sweet Dotty.’
“I assume an akuma did not appear because Monarch is not in the vicinity, correct?”
Argos glanced at the tiny goddess before returning his gaze to the slumbering girl, “You know I cannot answer that without ensuring my demise.”
“We need to know his identity to end this war, to allow all Parisians to feel emotions as raw as what she went through tonight without the fear of being possessed!” Tikki’s frustration was palpable from the venom in her voice. “She could have been akumatized!”
“I made a deal with him, one that I cannot break—”
The goddess cut him off with a swift and commanding “No!” that seemed to resonate in his very bones. How could he forget that Creation was just as terrifying as its counterpart? Argos trembled looking into her big doe eyes, now filled with rage and a touch of deviousness. “Argos and Felix cannot break the deal…”
Magenta eyes widened with realization, “…but a different hero can!” He quickly detransformed and motioned Duusu and Tikki toward the pink chaise where he settled, that night the three plotted quietly.
With a touch of acting during the next akuma fight and some help from Tikki, the new hero Phénix was born! In one fell swoop, Felix was freed from suspicion – due to Guardian-induced amnesia – and Argos was no more. Marinette reintroduced herself to Felix several weeks later, a new student that struggled with gaps in his memory and whose forgotten previous actions made him an instant outcast with his new peers. Their friendship was instantaneous and stronger than steel. He provided the young designer with solid alibis for her absences – since Ladybug was always with Phénix in battle – and shielded her against any bullying attempts. It also helped that the looks of jealousy and pain his cousin shot the amnesiac blond from the front row fueled his internalized malicious glee. Marinette’s mental health and emotional state slowly improved, Felix’s soul surged with happiness as he watched her heart heal. When the time was right, Phénix was the one to reveal Monarch’s identity.
Having seen the way Ladybug’s bluebell eyes burned with vengeful rage – a sight that made his heart race at her Valkyric beauty – the peacock holder was suddenly very glad he had done so during a moment of relative safety: just after defeating Monsieur Pigeon for the hundredth time. At least Monarch would not be able to akumatize the heroine until he could recharge. Not that the resulting akuma would actually do the villain’s bidding…but Phénix did not know how he would ever get such a glorious, wrathful goddess back under control.
Oh, he had heard of Chat Blanc’s rampage after Hawkmoth was Cataclysmed in another timeline. It was during one of their post-patrol, heart-to-heart chats after her heartbreak. He recalled the painful conversation with absolute clarity…
“Maybe I’m not supposed to find love until after Monarch is defeated,” Ladybug sighed into the Parisian air from atop the Montparnasse Tower late one night.
He refused to acknowledge his aching heart dropping in his chest, “Why do you say that, LB?”
Phénix felt the terrifying fear rolling off her in waves, her stare unfocused upon the stars as if waiting for something. When nothing came, her shoulders relaxed incrementally and her voice came out in a soft whisper, “There’s a future hero named Bunnyx, her power is over Time. In the past, I’ve been called upon to undo the mistakes of future Ladybugs that caused worldwide destruction, erasing the entire timeline, and leaving only the two of us with the memories. The first time it happened…”
As the words tumbled out of her, so too came tears over the absolute horrors she had witnessed. Suddenly he understood the weight that hung over her, that leeched into her troubled civilian life, and saw the shattered young woman in totality. Guilt for his part in that weighed heavily on his heart. Holding her close that night on the tower, the peacock hero swore he would end her suffering – this Miraculous War – once and for all. When the inevitable butterfly appeared floating towards them on the horizon, attracted by her negative emotions, Phénix deftly wielded the yo-yo to capture it while Ladybug was in no state to. The instinct was inherent but the stars of adoration in her eyes when he returned to her side made it all worth it.
The final battle was planned over many weeks, meticulous in detail and cautious in scope, and new allies trained in the Miraculous. One a weather-obsessed akuma victim from their school who was passionate for revenge and the other a stoic boy he had previously observed as Argos helping injured citizens to shelters in the battle zones. After hearing about Blanc and the black cat’s increasing absence, Felix argued to bench Chat Noir in the final fight. Marinette refused to be cowed, “We started this fight together, we will end it together. End of discussion!”
The fight itself was long and arduous, requiring a power-up to elongate their transformation times. The team was sporting a multitude of injuries by the time most of the Miraculous were stripped from Monarch’s hands. Chat had surprised them both by fighting with a vicious seriousness they had never seen before. In the end, Phénix stripped the last brooch from the fallen villain and stood over an unconscious Gabriel Agreste. Ladybug cast the cure to heal their wounds, some would have been life-threatening if left untreated for much longer. Their relief and joy erupted in cheers from their newest members, Kobra and Huntress. Even Phénix, his Miraculous beeping a two minute warning as he recalled his amok, shared a warm smile of victory with the bug heroine a couple meters away as she held out a fist for their final celebratory fist-bump. Emotions were high and the peacock hero was exhausted enough that the sensory input felt like static to his fried senses. The other three holders pulled themselves up and began to make their way across the room…
That’s when disaster struck. It all happened so fast. A furious Gabriel, inadvertently healed by the Cure, pulled a sword from his cane and sliced the back of Phénix’s leg as he rose to his feet. The wounded peacock cried out and fell to the floor, barely hearing the frantic call of 'Phénix!', clutching at his bloodied limb in an attempt to staunch the flow. With a blood thirsty scream, the villain then charged at the heroine, aiming to skewer her through the heart. The spotted girl had turned towards the sound but didn’t have time to dodge, Phénix’s eyes widened as he reached out a hand as if to grab her away from his spot on the floor. Kobra and Huntress were frozen in shock, nowhere close enough to respond in time. A blur of black shot forward and pushed Ladybug out of the way with a bruising shoulder check…only to reveal an impaled Chat Noir, sword through his chest, glaring down Gabriel’s self-perceived triumph.
Blood bubbled up from his throat and dribbled down his chin as he spitefully called one word, “Cataclysm.” Within seconds, the disgraced designer turned to dust before their very eyes. Then the cat hero dropped to his knees, hands shakily cupping the sword in his chest as he struggled to breathe.
Ladybug screamed and rushed to his side, carefully angling her partner into her lap as tears rolled down her face. “No! Chat…the Cure…I can’t…Why did you…” Phénix dragged himself closer, desperate to comfort her as the jagged edges of her emotions ripped across his mind like shrapnel.
The hero smiled painfully and grabbed one of her hands, words coming out between wet coughs, “I couldn’t let him hurt you, Milady. I’m sorry I was gone so much. I had to keep my father from figuring out the Black Cat was beneath his roof…”
Ladybug gasped as the information filtered through her consciousness, Phénix choked on a cry. Adrien was Chat Noir! He must have figured out who Monarch was and had been dancing to Gabriel’s fiddle to keep him from discovering his secret identity, from gaining another advantage over the team. No wonder Chat had tried to be so friendly! Then Phénix recalled the sorrowful smile his cousin had given him months earlier as tears slid down the peacock’s cheeks, “You idiot. Why didn’t you tell me?” Chat’s pain filled eyes turned towards him just as the brooch’s transformation gave out, revealing a bloody and grief-stricken Felix.
“Fe…?” The cat hero’s smile rivaled the sun even as his other hand trembled while reaching out. Felix grabbed it, their blood mingling between his bare palm and Chat’s hex leather. “Of course, it was you all along…” The coughs were getting wetter and his green irises began to dull. “Keep…my girls…s-safe. Tell M-Mari…I’m s-sorry…”
Ladybug’s sobs echoed in the chamber as Chat turned to look up at her one last time. His voice was fading slowly now, barely a murmur but the smile stayed on his face regardless. “Don’t…be s-sad, this c-cat had a great ni-nine lives. I’ll…always b-be wi-with…you…”
With his last breath, his transformation fell away to reveal a dead Adrien Agreste and a passed out black cat kwami. That night they had also found the remains of Emilie Agreste, making the final battle even more tragic as the entire Agreste family was wiped out almost overnight. With the help of Guardian Su-Han, they found a way to revert the miraculous to their former glory and returned them to the Miracle Box…but they could not celebrate. The cost was so high… It was a bittersweet, pyrrhic victory.
~~~ Present Day ~~~
Tikki cleared her throat, jostling him from his thoughts. Tracing the headstone lettering with his eyes as he wiped away a few rogue tears.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ADRIEN ÉMILE GABRIEL DONATIEN ATHANASE AGRESTE
CUT DOWN TOO SOON
BELOVED SON, COUSIN, NEPHEW, AND FRIEND
YOU’LL ALWAYS BE OUR HERO
SEP 12, 20XX – JUN 27, 20XX
“I’m sorry I didn’t visit the last few years; a lot has happened. There was an investigation by the Justice League into the heroes of Paris, not that any remain active. Batman tried to convince the new mayor to set up some sort of spotlight that would have a ladybug on it? Bizarre, to be sure. Rossi was arrested after trying to break into the mansion for something…we think she was after the Grimore, perhaps hoping we left a Miraculous behind.” Felix pressed his lips together in a grim line at the thought.
“Plagg did curse her with bad luck, though!” The little red goddess giggled.
He was all too glad when the little cheese gremlin recovered from the loss of his holder but how Adrien had ever put up with his constant hunger complaints was beyond Felix. The blond chuckled, “It did make all the good luck we had to spread after that worth it when she tripped while walking up the courthouse steps! I thought only Mari could be that clumsy!” He smiled softly towards the grave once again, “There’s also a few more members of the family you should meet—"
A small happy cry of “Daddy!” interrupted his words, he turned just in time to catch a three-year-old blond girl and hoist her into his lap for some tickles. Felix smiled lovingly down into her pale green eyes that reminded them so much of her namesake, letting her hands tug at his tie as she giggled uncontrollably. “Andrea Athena Amelie Fathom, where is your mother?”
“Daddy! Sh-shtop! Sh-she’s…with B-Bennie!” Andrea managed to stutter out between laughs.
“Felix! Are you torturing your little golden chick again?” A playful singsong voice called from the path meandering up the embankment, bringing his tickle attack to a standstill as his beloved wife joined him at his side.
“Now, my dearest Dotty, what makes you think I would torture our precious princess?” He arched up slightly to retrieve a kiss before sitting back on the bench.
Marinette had grown a bit after high school, doffing the pigtails for a braided bun now that her hair had grown past her shoulders. Her eyes remained that alluring color of bluebells that sparkled whenever she laughed. However, gone was the gangly teen, replaced by a refined beauty with hourglass curves any woman would die for. He had spent so many years scaring off riffraff attempting to flirt with her while she was grieving her fallen partner. He was over the moon when the gorgeous woman he had called his friend had asked him on a date in university!
Their subsequent engagement came fairly quickly after that, Felix having known she was the only one for him since that fateful trip to China. However, Plagg was apparently very protective of every one of his Kittens, no matter how brief their stint with his ring. The tiny God of Destruction had given him quite the shovel talk, but it was Sass’s quiet ‘what he sssaid, but timesss a thousssand’ comment that had been nightmare inducing. Gazing into the smiling eyes of his wife now, all he could think was: ‘Worth it.’
“Mm hmm, like I believe that, Feathers…” Marinette grinned down at her husband, both hands full – one with a baby and the other juggling a bag and a bouquet of flowers.
“Andrea, why don’t you go help Mummy with those heavy flowers, hmm?” The little blond nodded eagerly and hopped off his lap to assist, he outstretched his hands towards his wife with a little ‘gimme’ motion. “Let me take Bennie, my dear. I know you want to clean the grave and that will be hard with our wiggling little beastie in your arms. Looks like he’s ready for his nap.”
His wife acquiesced with a smile, handing over their youngest before settling down on her knees to brush the dirty and dead grass blades away from the grave marker.  Benedict ‘Bennie’ Manton Sabin Fathom was a one-year-old with the personality of a cat – affectionate wiggle butt one minute, stoic grub the next. His dark hair and blue eyes came straight from his mother, but the attitude was all Felix, at least according to Grandma Amelie. Andrea was planned, her name a fitting memorial for their fallen Chat. Bennie was a surprise from a second honeymoon that they had taken for their vow renewal. Felix adored both of his children, finding any excuse to hold or play with them and never let his cane get in the way. He knew his wife was open to the possibility of more little scamps in the future, should her fashion career permit it. Felix was perfectly fine being a stay-at-home trophy husband.
“Mummy, what are you doing?” Andrea questioned innocently; her face mostly obscured by the large bouquet held in both arms.
“I’m cleaning Uncle Adrien’s grave, Love. He was Daddy’s cousin and Mummy’s very best friend growing up.”
“But why?” The tiny blond’s words sounded a little whiny as well as curious, the older blond noted it might be time for her naptime as well.
Settling a sleepy Bennie into the crook of his neck, Felix watched two of his favorite ladies trim the weeds away, wiping down the stone with a rag and water bottle, and exchanging the flowers in the memorial vase for the bouquet. “Because it’s important to Mummy and Daddy. We want Uncle Adrien to know we remember him.” Taking a stone bowl from her shoulder bag, his wife set it before the grave and placed a few small paper objects inside before using a match to light them on fire. As the contents burned to ash, Marinette proceeded to light a couple sticks of incense and place them in a small groove in the tombstone base specifically designed just for such a thing while saying a short prayer.
Andrea watched with interest, absorbing the actions like a sponge. “Mummy…do you think Uncle would want some company?”
The older bluenette smiled, “Awful lonely way up here. I bet he would, why?”
Hesitantly, the little girl pulled out a small black cat plush keychain she always kept in her pocket and held it up, “…Would he like Mr. Whiskers?”
“Are you sure, Sweetie?” Felix and his wife exchanged a concerned look, their daughter never parted with the cat. However, Andrea just nodded and hummed an affirmative.
Tikki floated down to rest on the blond child’s head, nuzzling into the waves with a smile, “I think that’s a delightful idea, Little Bug! I’m sure Plagg would be happy to cuddle with you if you ever miss Mr. Whiskers!” Taking a cue from her mother, Andrea placed the little cat against the upright stone and tightly pressed her hands together to give a little prayer.
“That was very kind of you, Andrea. We’re very proud of you.” Marinette gently pet their daughter’s hair, “How about we go get a bit of ice cream on the way home? Uncle Adrien loved ice cream.”
Those must have been the magic words as she perked up with an ecstatic ‘OKAY!’ as the little girl followed a floating Tikki back to the car. His wife rose to her feet and dusted off her knees before gathering her things. “We wish you were here, Kitty. I know you would love the kids and being an uncle. We’ll be back around your birthday with Plagg next time. I know he misses you.” Pressing a kiss to her fingers, she then let them linger on the top of the tombstone with a sad smile.
“You know, he’s probably haunting us right now…” Felix joked softly so as not to wake the baby.
“Oh stop!” Marinette quietly chastised her husband, shaking her head at his antics. “What possible unfinished business could he have to be a ghost?”
“Well, we both know he would have liked to have made far more cat puns than he had the chance to,” his words made her scoff, but her eyes were laughing.
“Come on, give me Bennie so I can take him back to the car. Say your goodbyes, my love.” Carefully transferring the slumbering boy, she gave Felix a quick kiss before heading back down the hill. He watched her go with a soft smile.
“I’ve been taking care of our girl, just like you told me to, Adrien. She’s…they’re my whole world.” The blond pulled himself back onto his feet, balancing his weight with his cane as he rested a hand on top of the marker. “I hope I’ve done you proud. Give my regards to Aunt Emilie.”
As Felix slowly limped back to the car, he paused halfway to glance back up to that lonely grave on the hilltop. Only one plot was taken, but there was room for two more when the time came. Knowing a bit about the blessings of the Miracle Box upon his wife and their family, he knew that day would not be any time soon. “Cat-tch you later, cousin, and…thank you.”

- And this is how Scarlett Coccinelle and Kitty Noire were born. Chloé is SC, Zoé is KN;
- While fighting Stoneheart, they save Kim (Ivan's target), Mylène (she is here to comfort Ivan) and Alya (she is filming all of this) before defeating him;
- After the fight and detransformation, the Bourgeois Twins met Marinette at school and thanks her for their presents. Marinette is confused because she didn't leave any presents in their room. After that, they decides to exchange their macarons which makes all of the blush;
- Adrien showed up. Chloé, Zoé and Alix, his old friends, runs to hug him and greet him which makes Marinette jealous;
- After the classes, Sabrina and Aurore bullies Mylène for no reason, Ivan stands up for her and it was at this moment when Kim hits him;
- Ivan became Stoneheart again;
- Chloé and Zoé turns into Scarlett Coccinelle and Kitty Noire. Now Zoé is SC and Chloé is KN;
- Stoneheart takes Marinette because he believes that she is still have a crush on Kim. Marinette tries to say that this is bullshit. Stoneheart drops her;
- SC and KN saw Marinette falling and they both saves her. And here comes gay panic from all of them;
- Stoneheart is defeated, akuma is purified;
- After the fight, the twins have an idea: as they are the only people who knows each other's identity and they are twins, they can switch the Miraculouses whenever they can;
- "The Umbrella Scene". Wait, here me out, please;
- The Bourgeois POV: they saw Adrien and Marinette together and they are jealous because Marinette isn't with them;
- Marinette's POV: she tell Adrien that, yes, she was jealous. But only because Chloé and Zoé were with him and not with her. She basically confesses that she have a crush on both of Bourgeois Twins;
- Adrien's POV: he now knew that Chloé and Zoé are both have a crush on Marinette and that Marinette have a crush on both Chloé and Zoé.
We're getting some ChloZoenette in this?

AU inspired by @sidsinning’s Villainess AU. Thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing concept. For your consideration:
Adrien the Self Proclaimed Villain AU
The villainess au with the roles reversed, heavily based on An Observation Log of My Fiancé Who Calls Herself a Villainess.
Adrien adores anime in-universe. Of course he’d be the kid that played the otame game over and over again and memorized the story. Also, he is a really lonely, like Bertia in her past life.
The story is still told from Marinette’s POV, with Adrien as the secondary protagonist, just like the canon show. Princess Marinette meets her new arranged fiancé, who blurts out that he us the “villain” and how it is his destiny to bully the hero and try to hoard her to himself, only to be defeated and dumped by her.
Unlike Marinette in the Villainess AU, Adrien doesn’t try to change the story. In fact, he plans to be the best villain he can possibly be to keep the story on track and ensure Marinette gets her happy ending. Which is definitely something Adrien would do to ensure the happiness of those he loves.
Like his show counterpart, Adrien doesn’t pick up on social cues. He doesn’t see that Marinette is falling in love with him, despite how obvious it may be.
Tikki and Plagg are guardian spirits earned by noble acts of kindness, just like Prince Cecil and Bertia earned their own spirit guides that take the form of animals.
The hero can either be Luka in the style of “My Next Life as a Villainess” or my villainous OC Henri LeRoi in the style of “Observation Log of My Fiancé”
It would really be an awesome parallel to all the salt fics. Those things always have Adrien as some sort of selfish asshole that views Marinette as an object. The real Adrien is sweet and kind and selfless to the point of ruining his own life for the sake of others. A villain reincarnation au would align perfectly with the current fandom.
All in all, I think it would be an amazing concept to explore and really funny, too. The simlarities between the real show and AOLOMFWCHAV are ratger uncanny.

Speechless Changes~Number 5
Summary:
When you always have done whatever it takes to get your goals, it's very hard to change or surprise people--even harder to leave them speechless.
In other words, the six firsts of Shadybug and Claw Noir's relationship that left someone speechless.
AO3
Warnings: language, panic attack
Word Count: 6.9k+
Author's notes: Hi! Sorry this one took a bit longer with work and the holidays and everything, but this part is at least a bit longer to make up for it. It's going to start as a little fun but then it's going to be a very quick tone change. Also a slight look into how I picture some of the other characters in this universe that probably won't really come up in this series. It came out a little choppy, but I really like it--I based some parts of it on something that really happened, so it's a little different. Lots of POV shifts in this one, so remember a line break means a shift in POV! Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Number 5: Alya (first time they find the words for what they are)
Adrien is not off to a great start today. His photoshoot this morning was a complete mess and he no doubt would probably get an earful for his behavior later, nothing new there, but it threw his plans for the rest of the day for a loop.
He’s running late because of the stupid photoshoot and it’s very important to him that he manages to finally befriend Nino as Adrien with a ridiculous movie, if it works, it’s well worth skipping his Chinese lesson today. He’s tried several times already but something always happens, one of the Supreme’s minions starts terrorizing the city to get his and Shady’s attention, he got the address wrong and couldn’t ‘accidentally’ bump into Nino, he did something embarrassing and would rather die than be in public.
Why is this so hard? He’s just trying to coincidentally bump into Nino right when he’s walking home from school at the street by the movie theatre and coincidentally have tickets to see Nino’s favorite movie on the day Nino just so happens to be free because Adrien memorized his schedule…he’s aware how creepy it sounds when he says it like that, but that’s literally his most logical and least fucked up route.
Since he can’t join Nino and Marinette’s school until the next school year, he needs to improvise a way to meet Nino that isn’t ‘oh hey, you should be my fucking friend because a me from another universe told me we’d make great friends and I have shit social skills, so I really want that! Wanna see a movie I know is your favorite with me?’ Yeah, no, that isn’t an option, that’s how he gets sent to a mental institution and never sees his Bug again—even Plagg agreed that was a terrible idea.
He considered for a bit asking if maybe Marinette could find a way to stealthily introduce them to each other, but she’s just as socially inept as he is and is trying to do something similar with Alya—granted she’s made more progress than he has, but still not a great option for this.
Today is the day that it would finally work if he could just get to the right spot in time. His plan is perfect, he’ll literally bump into Nino by ‘accident’ and drop his movie tickets, Nino would pick them up and they would start talking and then he would casually mention that he had an extra ticket and invite Nino and wa-la! Friendship!
At least, that’s what he keeps telling himself as he’s run-walking to the spot he’s supposed to ‘accidentally’ bump into Nino. If his stupid photoshoot hadn’t run late, he would have had time to get there on time and not worry about missing his chance.
He turns the corner, seeing the street he plans to cross to look more casual when running into Nino—cross the street, turn to the right, walk right into Nino’s walking path and into Nino because he’s checking his phone, he’s gone over the plan in his head hundreds of times. He hopes he doesn’t say the wrong thing and embarrass himself, he might die and crawl into a hole if he fucks this up.
He sighs in relief as he sees Nino walking the way he walks every day, distractedly looking at his phone like always. He takes a deep breath and crosses the street putting his plan in motion, this is going to work.
He turns to the right and pulls out his phone and the movie tickets, but right as he does so, a pigeon flies into his face.
He leans back in surprise, trying to get away from it, and loses a bit of balance. His nose starts to itch and he sneezes so hard it hurts, and the momentum from his sneeze propels him forward—falling face first to the ground in the most ungraceful, embarrassing, and ridiculous way he ever could.
He prays to every divine entity in existence that Nino didn’t see that. If he did, he’ll never want to be Adrien’s friend because Adrien is too much of a dumbass. If he’s lucky, Nino will just keep walking because he was too busy on his phone to notice and Adrien will take his idiocy to his grave—Nino never needs to know that it was Adrien.
Nino isn’t doing anything today, normally he’d go meet with Betterfly or hang with Alya, but Alya is helping Marinette with something and Betterfly didn’t need him until later, so today is a do-nothing-and-play-videogames-by-himself day. Maybe he should make more friends he can hang out with for days like this?
He got along fine with his classmates, but he didn’t really spend time with any of them outside of school. Neither did Alya, really, they’re both always so busy working together with the resistance that friendships were kind of harder to keep. He hopes that she and Marinette might be good friends, Marinette has always been quiet and kept to herself (which he couldn’t really blame her with everything with Chloe), but she had been a bit more receptive of other people lately and her and Alya could probably get along pretty well. Nino, however, didn’t really have any great options to consider in that department. Nathaneal is completely antisocial, Ivan is too cheery and always with his scary girlfriend, Kim is a jerk who tries to hang with Chloe, and Max is always busy with his robot death matches.
He sighs as he walks home from school about to pass by the movie theatre. He just wants some dude who will chill with him and watch a dumb movie or something every now and then.
He puts his phone away and looks up to see some guy on his phone that looks incredibly familiar walking toward him. Is that…Adrien Agreste? The angry model dude?
Before Nino can be sure of that, a random pigeon comes flying directly towards the guy’s face. The guy leans back like he’s terrified of the thing and then sneezes so hard he’s pushed forward, falling face first into the concrete.
On the one hand, Nino should make sure he isn’t hurt or anything, that should probably be his first thought as someone who fights with the resistance for hope and all that. On the other hand, though, that is the funniest thing he’s ever seen. So, laughing his butt off is what he does first.
“Dude,” Nino says as he closes the distance between them between laughs, “I’m s-sorry. I’m trying really hard not to laugh. Dude, are you…are you okay?”
The guy groans and slowly raises his arm up to give a weak thumbs up, causing Nino to laugh again.
“Here, dude.” Nino says, finally calm enough to speak. “Let me help you up.” He grabs the guy’s arm and helps to pull him up. Now that he’s face to face with the guy, he’s certain it’s the model guy, Alya is gonna have a field day with this when he tells her. “Hey, aren’t you that Adrien Agreste guy?”
Adrien’s face turns a deep red and he nods. He grits his teeth and turns around, sprinting away at full speed.
“Huh.” Nino says to himself, confused at whatever just happened.
He looks back to the ground and notices the guy had dropped something. He kneels down to pick it up and sees that it’s two movie tickets for next week to his favorite movie that Alya refuses to watch with him.
“Weird guy.” Nino says. “Great taste in movies…maybe I can meet him next week to give him back his tickets.”
Nino puts the tickets in his pockets, hoping the guy is okay and will still come to the movie theatre next week so he can give them back to him. Nino did say he’d like someone to see a dumb movie with…maybe this Adrien guy would let him tag along?
It was a terrible, horrible day, the worst day that Adrien’s had in a long time. It was the kind of day where one bad thing happened after another, each worse than the last. He lost his temper at a photoshoot that went longer than it was supposed to, he missed one of his lessons, he had badly embarrassed himself in front of Nino when he tried to invite him to the movies, and to top it all off he had to follow his embarrassment with Nino immediately with a long difficult conversation with his father.
Truthfully, the other stuff was bad, but talking to his father is what really pushed him over the edge.
Before the other universe, he would deal with a bad day with incredible violence or screaming matches with Shady, anything he could throw his anger at really. Now though, whenever he has a bad day, all he wants is to spend time with Marinette and just be around her—whether as Adrien or Claw, he didn’t care as long as she’s there. If she’s there with him, then that’s all that matters and he could be okay.
He thought that being contacted by Betterfly at this time at night would mean exactly that, that one of the Supreme’s minions is running rampant and he and Shady could go beat someone up then she would sit with him, and they would talk or kiss for hours and the world would feel less shitty because he was with her. He was excited for some super-powered person to be out and about fucking shit up, he wanted that. Is that a fucked-up thing to want that to happen? Yes. But, that’s his life, he has to find happiness or whatever somewhere. So, that’s what he was hoping for when Betterfly contacted him.
This, however, is not what he wanted after the day he had.
He didn’t want to listen to Betterfly lecture him and only him on all the things he’s trying to be better at. He didn’t want to listen to how much hope can make things better and what a great job he’s doing. He didn’t want to hear this man who is good and kind and cares about everything tell him how much he worries and cares about him and all the things he’s noticed while they fight for a better world. He didn’t want to hear a stranger tell him how he’s doing a great job when his own father just spent all his time ignoring him and tried to lecture him on how he was worried about him making mistakes and hoping that he would change for the better. His own father ignored him and ignored the pain he felt about his mother then had the gall to look him in the eye and tell him that he wanted him to change because of a stupid Chinese lesson.
Before speaking to Betterfly, he would have dealt with everything he was feeling like it was anger. But with the way Betterfly is almost saying the perfect opposite of what his father told him, what he’s feeling is starting to feel more and more like pain.
How could he sit and listen to a stranger that reminds him so much of his father go on about how much he’s improved and changed when his own father had told him how disappointed he was that he hadn’t? That thought in itself is too much, he can’t do it.
“I can’t be here.” Claw growls in the middle of Betterfly’s sentence. He stands from the chair across from Betterfly in the debriefing room.
“I’m sorry.” Betterfly says. “Did I say something insulting? I swear, I didn’t mean—"
“You didn’t.” He answers with clenched fists.
He knows it’s not Betterfly’s fault, he knows it really isn’t and that Betterfly means well. But, he can’t help but think of his father around him and right now he can’t be here because of that. He can’t think of his father right now, he can’t let himself get dragged down that rabbit hole. This isn’t anger, this is him about to fall apart into a shit ton of broken pieces and that can’t happen—not here.
He grits his teeth and walks to the door.
“Is something wrong?” Betterfly asks, sounding genuinely concerned.
He can’t be here, he can’t deal with this now. The longer he stays and listens to Betterfly complimenting him and saying things he wishes his father would say, the harder it is to breathe.
“I can’t be here.” He says again as he steps out the door, barely holding it together.
He doesn’t know where he’s going, but he just needs to leave.
He bumps into someone in the halls of the resistance headquarters as he’s trying to keep his feet from giving out under him, but his vision is starting to blur so he pays no attention to whoever it is. His breathing is picking up and he doesn’t know what this is, but he just can’t focus, he needs to get away to somewhere, away from everyone. Before long he finds himself in a secluded room in the resistance’s headquarters, one that led into the sewers nearby.
His hands shake as he grabs his baton from behind him, he can hardly see what’s in front of him but it’s like his shaking hands are working on their own as they use his baton to call the one person he needs to see more than anything.
“Hey fleabag,” Shady’s voice answers. “What’s—”
“M-M-Marinette?” He barely croaks out.
“Stay where you are.” She responds immediately. “I’m coming.”
He nods, even though he knows she can’t see it, and slides his back down the wall. He hugs his knees to his chest and covers his ears with his hands.
Everything is so loud, even the silence is deafening, and he can feel himself shaking as tears form in his eyes.
He hates it. He hates himself for losing it. He hates that his father’s voice is always in his head. He hates that his father ignores him. He hates that his mother is gone. He hates that he feels so alone and empty sometimes. He hates that this feeling never really goes away.
His chest feels tight and for a moment he’s afraid he’s having a heart attack, or maybe the disease from overusing his powers is coming back. He doesn’t know what’s going on, he just knows that everything feels wrong.
Marinette needs to be Shady tonight, she needs an escape from the day she had. It wasn’t the worst of her days, but with Chloe and her parents, it was definitely a long one and she needs some fresh air. She isn’t expecting Adrien to join her as Claw, though she certainly is hoping he might, she just wants to see where the night will take her.
Her yo-yo vibrates and she smiles, seeing Claw’s familiar face on the screen. She’s excited he happened to be out at the same time as her, maybe they could have a relaxing night together just the two of them until sunrise since she hadn’t seen him all day like she desperately wanted.
“Hey fleabag,” Shady says, answering her yo-yo. “What’s—”
She’s interrupted by a barely audible croak on the other end from Claw, “M-M-Marinette?”
“Stay where you are.” She responds immediately. “I’m coming.”
She checks his location on her yo-yo and immediately starts jumping over rooftops and sprinting to get to him faster than she’s ever gone before.
She and her partner aren’t normal when it comes to a lot of things, whatever it is that they are is one of those things that can’t really be explained to anyone else. So, to pretty much the rest of the world, the things that they both did or said weren’t easy to see the meaning of. To her, though, her partner is a puzzle that only she can put together, a book she knows how to read.
One thing that has always—always—been a big part of their ‘more’ situation is that their real names are never said lightly, even if they aren’t in the costumes, they always use one of their hundreds of nicknames for each other. She never questioned it, it’s just one of those things they never really needed to talk about. But the unspoken rule between them has always been that the use of one of their real names meant it’s time to be serious, time to be a bit vulnerable together, time to be honest, or that something is very very wrong. Hearing her partner’s broken voice saying her name like that…she knows that something is wrong and she doesn’t know what, but whatever it is, she knows she has to get to him fast.
She finally yo-yos her way to the resistance’s headquarters and into the secret entrance. She checks his location frantically as she runs down the halls, running past Betterfly, Nino, and some of the other members. She crashes into Alya for a moment, which brings them both to the ground.
“Hey!” Alya says.
Shady doesn’t answer, she’s already getting up and continuing her sprint to find her partner—she’s so close and she’s already taken way too long to find him. She couldn’t stand the thought that something is terribly wrong and he’s all alone.
She turns down several different halls at full speed until she finally finds herself in a secluded room that leads to the sewers where Claw is against the wall, shaking with his head against his knees. She’s never seen him look so broken, so vulnerable.
She sits beside him and pulls his head against her heart, holding him like he might slip away.
He takes a shallow breath and slowly wraps his arms around her, still shaking—he seems like he might be crying, but if he is, she wouldn’t dare comment on it.
She gently pets his hair as his grip tightens. She can feel him sobbing against her chest and every inch of her body is screaming at her to help him, to stay with him forever.
“I’m here.” She whispers. “Stay with me. Breathe.”
She’s never seen him like this before, which, unfortunately means she doesn’t know the right way to help him. She would give anything to take away whatever is wrong, she’d take it all on herself if she could—there isn’t a thing in this universe or any other for that matter that she wouldn’t do for him. She doesn’t know what happened or why, but she hopes the words she tells herself when she falls apart on her worst days are enough to calm him down too, that’s all she can do for him.
“I’m here. Stay with me. Breathe.” She repeats with a slight squeeze to show him it’s true.
His breathing slows down, getting less erratic, and he starts nuzzling into her chest as he seems to calm down.
“I’m here.” Shady says as she pets his hair and kisses his head. “I promise I’m here.”
Shallow breaths against her chest send vibrations through her whole body as she lets him rest in her hold. She couldn’t tell you how long they stay like this, it could be seconds or hours or days, but she doesn’t care—she would stay like that for months or even years if it meant that her partner would be okay.
As Claw’s breathing finally evens out, he hugs her tighter like she isn’t close enough to him. She couldn’t blame him, when she sees him after she breaks down it feels like he’s never close enough…not even when there’s nothing between them but skin.
“I-I’m not fucking crying.” He says into her chest.
“Course you’re not.” Shady answers.
They were taught by the Supreme and everything else in this fucked up world that crying meant weakness, and despite the fact that they both know now that isn’t true in the slightest, it’s hard to unlearn things like that when it feels like the whole world is falling on you. So even though she knows that he is crying, she would never dare contradict him if he says otherwise and God help anyone else that fucking dared to comment on it.
Claw hums and nuzzles into her chest again. He presses his ear to her heart, listening to her heartbeat as she sees him close his eyes.
She takes a deep breath so he can feel her chest rise and fall, so he knows that she’s there with him and he isn’t alone.
“…You haven’t asked.” Claw whispers after a long bit of silence, his eyes still closed as he leans against her.
“Do you want me to ask?” Shady whispers back.
His lip quivers and he tightens his grip on her.
“…No.” He says weakly.
“Then I won’t.” She answers.
She keeps petting his head, trying to give him as much comfort as he needs.
If he wants to tell her, he’ll tell her when he’s ready, if not then she’ll still be there to keep his head out of the water no matter what. The two of them are anger, violence, always have been and maybe always will be. What people often forget she figures, is that also means they’re angry and violent to themselves, so they break harder when they hit the ground. She knows that’s how she’s always been, it’s how she keeps going—she’s so broken that she breaks all at once over everything instead of all the time. People like her and Claw…one small thing could break them into millions of pieces because they spent so much time trying not to be broken. She’s never seen Adrien like this before, so she knows something set him off that broke the dam. Whatever happens or happened, she’s there and would never leave him to deal with it on his own.
They both stay quiet for a long time as she comforts him and he calms down.
“I-I missed a lesson today.” Claw finally says.
“Oh?” Shady answers, letting him speak on his terms and only answering to show him she’s listening intently.
“I get angry a lot…have a nasty reputation for it.”
“Hmm.”
“I cause trouble and chaos sometimes.”
“Yeah?”
“But I’m trying. I’m trying so fucking hard.”
His voice comes out scratchy at the end of his sentence and she leans her head against his.
“I know.” She says, and she did, she knows how hard it is.
“He-he can’t stand me.” He chokes out. “All of that and all he cares about is that I missed a lesson…that I’m going down a bad path and need to be better.”
“Oh.”
“And then Betterfly…he-he’s proud of me and…and…” Claw trails off and squeezes Shady again, clearly fighting fresh tears.
Shady grits her teeth and tightens her grip on him, realizing what set him off.
Betterfly had pulled him into a lecture about how much he improved and was doing good…which in itself, would probably be whatever on a normal day. But he missed a lesson today, which meant that likely sometime today before Betterfly lectured him about the good he is doing, his dickhead father had lectured him about how he needs to change and be better.
How could he not see how hard Adrien is trying? Marinette definitely isn’t the best person for advice with a parent—she couldn’t even bring herself to talk about the issues she has with her own—but when it comes to Gabriel Agreste, she wishes she could just grab him by the shoulders and scream in his face ‘Hey fuck-head, your son is a fucking masterpiece work of art who’s doing his best and you’re an asshole for ignoring him. Stop being a fucking dickhead.’ It broke her heart to know that this man could make her fearless partner crumble so easily and didn’t even think for a second that he was doing it—it’s enough to make her want to cry.
“Maybe he’s right to ignore me.” Claw says. “Maybe I’m not worth knowing.”
Oh, hell no. At that, her heartbreak turns to rage and protectiveness. Shady is not letting her partner think something like that about himself for a single second.
“Hey, listen to me.” She says as she grabs his cheeks to bring his eyes to hers. “You are amazing exactly as you are, if your father doesn’t see that, then fuck him.” She leans her forehead against his. “You are the reason I can see the world getting better, the reason I’ve come this far. You are incredible, and if the rest of the world can’t see it, then screw the whole damn world. You’re trying to be better and you’re making a difference.”
“But I’m a—" He tries but Shady cuts him off with a kiss to his lips.
She pulls back a bit so she can look him in the eyes so he knows how badly she means it.
“What you are is my partner, my best friend…my everything more and inbetween.” Shady says with determination. “You are so important to me, and I love you more than anything, so know that I’m here at your side no matter how shitty things get because I’m with you no matter what.”
He blinks at her, taken aback by her sudden bluntness. He leans back into her chest and pulls her into his lap so she’s straddling his hips, holding her in his arms. It’s something he’s done before, usually when his lips were on hers like they were animals and things were about to get incredibly heated, but this time she knows it’s just because he needs her close—nothing more and nothing less. He moves his head up to her shoulder, resting his face in the crook of her neck like he’s trying to memorize her scent.
“Hmm.” He says into her neck, his voice scratchy from crying. “You always smell like fresh bread…it’s how I know I’m home.”
She hums in response, melting into his arms. They had never said that out loud before, it had always been another unspoken thing between them—for them, home would always be a person and though they don’t know when it became the case, they both know that home is each other.
He’s calmed down enough that now all he wants is to be with her, just have her close to him—it’s the clingy protective side of him that comes out when the lights are low and their voices are silent, the side of him that pulls her closer when they sleep next to each other like he’s afraid he’ll wake up and she’ll be gone, the side that no one but her gets to see.
She moves a hand up to the back of his neck to scratch his head comfortingly and a low purr rumbles from his chest. She smiles, she already knew that he purrs sometimes, but he isn’t always aware that he’s doing it. Normally, she might tease him about it when he stops, but given how he’s feeling today, she decides to let him do anything he pleases without any remarks as long as it helps him.
Claw takes in an uneasy breath and nuzzles his nose into her neck.
“That’s the first time you told me you love me.” He whispers like he might start crying again.
She blinks, suddenly realizing what she had said to him. She didn’t even realize it…it had just slipped out. She could deny it, say she meant something else in case it was a mistake, but then that would be a lie because she meant every word. As frightening as saying her feelings out loud is, when it comes to Claw, she thinks he deserves to hear it—even if he doesn’t say it back.
“Yeah, I guess it is.” She says back.
“Did you…did you mean it?”
“…You know I did, Cat.”
He sighs and she can feel the slight smile he has against her shoulder.
“I love you too, Bug.”
She lets out a sigh she didn’t know she was holding in.
They always had trouble saying how they really feel, they left so much unspoken and were so unsure of themselves that direct communication like this is rare. This isn’t how she pictured this…she always figured they would say something in the heat of battle or when one of them got hurt. She never would have thought it would happen when he had been crying into her chest and it would just slip out as easily as a hello. She’s relieved he said it back, but there’s no fireworks, no dramatic declarations, no big emotional ‘I love you, I love you’s. It simply is and was, as nice as it is to hear it, she didn’t need that and she didn’t think he did either—they both already knew.
They stay like that in silence for a minute, content just to be.
He hums a tune she doesn’t know then pulls back from her shoulder, resting his forehead against hers as her hands move to his chest.
“That’s what we are…you are.” He says, breaking the silence.
“What?” She answers.
“I’ve been trying to put words to what we are, but nothing seems to fit for how much we mean to each other. I call you my partner but…girlfriend, lover, friend…none of those feel right for what we are, but what you called us? That sounds perfect to me.”
“What?”
He looks down and moves one of his hands from her back to her hands, entwining their fingers as they both look at them.
“My everything more and inbetween.” He says as he meets her eyes.
She smiles at him and pulls his hand to her lips, gently kissing his knuckles.
“Yeah…” She says, “I like the sound of that.”
“Hey!” Alya growls as Shadybug crashes into her in the Resistance headquarters.
Shady doesn’t answer, she’s already getting up and continuing her sprint to wherever she’s running to so panicked.
Alya huffs in aggravation and quickly gets up, following after her. She can’t be up to anything good to be running like that in their headquarters.
Despite what Nino told her and the fact that he’s suddenly very supportive of Claw Noir and Shadybug being a part of their team, Alya is having a hard time believing that the two former villains could ever be anything but evil. After whatever happened when Nino was alone with them in the debriefing room, he’s been cheering them on and acting like their advocate. He keeps trying to tell her to give them a chance, that they’re just teenagers like them that are trying to be better—though they’ve been helping the Resistance, she hasn’t seen anything to point to them being more than murderous brutes.
She follows Shadybug down several different halls, barely keeping up with her. Shadybug finally stops in a secluded room and Alya stays by the entrance, trying to catch her breath and not let Shadybug know she’s there.
Alya expects to stumble on Shadybug meeting with one of the Supreme’s minions or find her with a beaten hostage or see her dragging a dead body or some other terrible villain thing that would explain why she was running to get here. The last thing she expects to see, however, is Claw Noir against the wall, shaking with his head against his knees. She blinks, not sure if she can trust her eyes, he looks so…broken.
Shady sits beside Claw and pulls his head against her heart, holding him gently like you would hold a kid. He takes a shallow breath and slowly wraps his arms around her, still shaking—he seems like he might be crying.
Alya blinks, confused. Shady wasn’t running to hurt someone or deal with something she did…she was running to Claw. She…she cares about him? How could that be?
Alya thought they hated each other, even with the weird incident with Nino, she couldn’t see them NOT hating each other. Not even two days ago she saw them screaming at each other before Shady had tackled Claw, she left before anything else happened, but she imagined things got very violent. But with the scene in front of her…maybe Nino has a point?
She watches as Shady gently pets Claw’s hair and he sobs against her chest. It seems like a private moment that she shouldn’t be there for, but she’s never seen them look so incredibly…human. She can’t bring herself to look away and poises her ears to listen, the reporter in her needing to know more even though she should probably leave them be.
Claw’s breathing slows down, getting less erratic, and he starts nuzzling into Shady’s chest as he seems to calm down.
Shady says something in a whisper, something Alya tries and fails to hear.
“I’m here.” Shady says as she pets Claw’s hair and kisses his head—at normal volume now, so Alya can actually hear. “I promise I’m here.”
Claw’s breathing finally evens out.
“I-I’m not fucking crying.” He says into Shady’s chest.
“Course you’re not.” Shady answers.
She hears Shady take a deep breath, then more whispering she can’t hear.
“…No.” Claw says weakly, loud enough that she can hear it but soft enough that she has to strain her ears to do so.
“Then I won’t.” Shady answers.
Shady and Claw stay quiet for a long time as she continues comforting him and he calms down.
Alya doesn’t know how long she watches them sit in silence, and frankly, she really should go. This seems like something incredibly private, and even if the two of them are supposed to be these ruthless and crazy villains, this seems like something that comes from pain and Alya can’t help but feel a bit heart broken at the sight of a broken boy who looks like his world is crumbling. She should leave, she really shouldn’t eavesdrop on them in a moment like this, but she can’t bring herself to move from behind the wall she’s watching them from.
“I-I missed a lesson today.” She hears Claw say after awhile.
“Oh?” Shady answers.
“I get angry a lot…have a nasty reputation for it.”
“Hmm.”
“I cause trouble and chaos sometimes.”
“Yeah?”
“But I’m trying. I’m trying so fucking hard.”
His voice comes out scratchy at the end of his sentence and Shady leans her head against his, his scratchy voice pulling at Alya’s heart strings like a kicked puppy.
“I know.”
“He-he can’t stand me.” Claw chokes out. “All of that and all he cares about is that I missed a lesson…that I’m going down a bad path and need to be better.”
“Oh.”
“And then Betterfly…he-he’s proud of me and…and…” Claw trails off, clearly fighting fresh tears.
Alya’s heart breaks a little more at that. What is this poor boy dealing with at home? Is that why he’s so angry all the time? Because of what his civilian life is like?
If Claw is dealing with this kind of thing, maybe Shady is too, maybe that’s why they’re always at each other’s side, because at least they have someone who slightly gets it. Before, Alya tried not to admit it, but Shady does sometimes remind her of Marinette, her new friend. Marinette is a bit socially inept and has a temper, but Alya could tell that she was dealing with something that puts her in a bad place (Alya assumes it’s the pressure of working for her parent’s bakery way more than she should), and she’s been trying really hard lately to come out her shell—like how Shady might be trying to be better, to be good.
She sees Shady grit her teeth. Shady must have a really good idea of what he’s dealing with at home, maybe that’s why she fought so violently sometimes—she’s protective. Actually, thinking about it…all the times Shady got too violent against one of the Supreme’s minions, Claw had gotten hurt or hit. This is dangerous, seeing them like this, seeing them in such a human way. Alya’s already starting to doubt what she knows about them, it’s dangerous to let her guard down so easily.
“Maybe he’s right to ignore me.” Claw says. “Maybe I’m not worth knowing.”
Oh, now that’s messed up. Is he talking about his dad? Before Alya is able to think about that, she sees Shady’s face flash with anger.
“Hey, listen to me.” Shady says as she grabs Claw’s cheeks to bring his eyes to hers.
That doesn’t sound like something you’d say to someone you hate. That almost sounds sweet enough to be a confession of affection. She’s comforting him and building him up, even if it is a bit intense, she seems so angry that he would talk about himself that way. Maybe she’s starting to genuinely care about him?
“But I’m a—" Claw starts to say but Shady cuts him off with a kiss to his lips.
WAIT. THAT WAS A KISS. Alya just watched the two people who hate each other more than anything KISS. Was Nino right? Are they dating?
Shady pulls back a bit and looks Claw in the eyes.
“What you are is my partner, my best friend…my everything more and inbetween.” Shady says with determination. “You are so important to me, and I love you more than anything, so know that I’m here at your side no matter how shitty things get because I’m with you no matter what.”
At that, Alya’s mouth opens completely and she’s gaping at them like a fish, completely speechless as they don’t even really react to the bombshell Shady just said that’s taking a wrecking ball to Alya’s brain.
Claw blinks at Shady and leans back into her chest, pulling her into his lap so she’s straddling his hips, holding her in his arms. He moves his head up to her shoulder, resting his face in the crook of her neck.
“Hmm.” Claw says into her neck, his voice scratchy from crying. “You always smell like fresh bread…it’s how I know I’m home.”
Claw whispers something Alya can’t hear. Not that it really matters, her whole world view is shifting as she witnesses all of this.
Shady hums and says, “Yeah, I guess it is.”
“Did you…” Claw hesitates. “Did you mean it?”
“…You know I did, Cat.”
Claw sighs and says, “I love you too, Bug.”
Alya blinks, finally snapping herself out of it.
Nino was right…they, they’re together. More than that, they’re in love. They aren’t the crazy vicious villains (okay, maybe they are a bit a crazy and vicious, but not as much as Alya thought) that Alya knew them to be. They’re just two people who are messed up because of their lives and who are trying their best. And they love each other, maybe just starting to feel each other in something new and complicated that they don’t understand. Whatever the case—new relationship or not—they genuinely care about each and that in itself meant there’s more to them than just being evil murderous villains.
Claw hums a tune Alya doesn’t know then pulls back from Shady's shoulder, resting his forehead against hers as her hands move to his chest.
“That’s what we are…you are.” Claw says, breaking the silence that had Alya’s mind reeling.
“What?” Shady answers.
“I’ve been trying to put words to what we are, but nothing seems to fit for how much we mean to each other. I call you my partner but…girlfriend, lover, friend…none of those feel right for what we are, but what you called us? That sounds perfect to me.”
“What?”
Claw looks down and moves one of his hands from her back to her hands, entwining their fingers as they both look at them.
“My everything more and inbetween.” Claw says as he meets her eyes.
Oh. Wait. Oh no.
Shady smiles at Claw and pulls his hand to her lips, gently kissing his knuckles.
“Yeah…” Shady says, “I like the sound of that.”
Oh God. Oh no, no, no. She shouldn’t have heard that. They’re not dating, no, that’s not what they are. They’re existing for each other like there’s no one else in the world, like nothing matters without the other.
Alya turns around with a blush on her cheeks, anxiously trying to leave the couple without either of them noticing.
How is Alya supposed to look them in the eye knowing that they’re the most beautiful thing together? She’s in love with them as a couple, freaking ‘everything more and inbetween’. Who says something like that after having a breakdown? How is she supposed to cope with the fact that the two most violent bloodthirsty people she’s ever known make a couple so sweet she wants to cry?
And just like that, Shady and Claw go from being two people Alya could never trust to becoming the two people in a relationship that Alya is determined to protect.

Spoilers below for chapter 71 of PN
Oo nice, marinette POV is always fun in this
Ough little baby… not feeling mixed enough sounds difficult :(
Oh jeeze poor thing, wow yeah she kinda just lost it all in one go
Damn Fei almost succeeded in what hawkmoth has been trying to do for 1 year in like 12 hours
I’m going to be homeless, miraculous-less, I’m going to have to perform on the streets for money and wander through the streets lost and hungry until I eventually die in a trash can.! Always love marinette catastrophizing
Ok but if panthera was there then you two could panic about both losing things together!! It would be great fun.
Christ you really capture marinette’s constant state of high alert amazingly its honestly really funny
French. My god. French. Someone could speak French.
Marinette had found her.. her Shanghai savior. NO GIRL SHE STOLE FROM YOU BUT THIS IS FUNNY AS FUCK
IT GOT FUNNIER HELP CALLING HER A CASH COW????GIRL PLEASE I’M LOSING IT ON A SUNDAY MORNING
Ha idiot, yes Fei you have morals accept it. I know in the Shanghai special they basically had Marinette's epic aura of kindness remind Fei of her dad’s ideals, but i’m curious what’ll happen here
Fei forgor that to scam people you have to be certain type of person. Which she is not.
Nah you got me tricked for a second when you mentioned Rose saying something at the start of Juleka’s POV i was like “girl what we get a rose POV??” but alas
Make Juleka visit Scotland and then I can comment on inconsistencies and shit the internet lies about, it would give me great joy
Bird employee?? Mr Cheng is so cool
The gorilla uses sign language?? Why did i not know this. That’s cool af
Hey Marinette is says gullible on the ceiling look up. Girly really trusts the first person she could communicate with directly after being mugged
Marinette and her slight of hand tricks return again!
Fei being baffled by kindness repaying in its own way is so much fun
Nah not the way Juleka and Adrien are bonding with Mr Cheng before Marinette does it-
Bastille is fun, i enjoy this bird
Guard cat Juleka is so real
Everything. She looked at herself in the bike mirror. Her damaged face, her ruined hands that were meant for outreached protection and kind generosity– gnarled into the claws of a thieving demon. Fei closed her eyes, remembering the emptiness of what should’ve been around her wrist, and remembering the emptiness of where her father should’ve still been standing. This paragraph goes so hard, i love it.
Nah Fei pleeek talk to someone girly your so sad rn
Marinette is so little and darling
Juleka didn’t trust the darkness. Not to someone alone. Not to someone that wasn’t her. Emo ass motherfucker (but also valid AF)
No because why am i still so suspicious about Adrien finding out. Like girl please.
NO BECAUSE THE SUSPICION IS GETTING HIGHER GIRLY IS GOING TO SNEAK OTU
Mr Cheng panicking- oh dear, someone please give the guy a hug
Hey. how does Fei expect Marinette to pay her when she already stole all her money.
