I've just started listening to potterless and I'm playing the introduction and Mike just goes all out and says something like:
"fun fact! Cedric Diggory is the only Hufflepuff we meet during the whole series!!"
"fun fact! Cho Chang is the only Ravenclaw we meet during the whole series!!"
And I was really wheezing like the man really knows nothing

from all my years on this planet, i have found that there is very little that gives me as much satisfaction as skipping the advertising in a podcast episode and hitting the exact moment the episode host starts talking again

Schubes is doing Newest Olympian liveshows in California next month and I would really like to go to one, but I think they're all double features with Potterless, which I have negative interest in, so :/

Pls tell me more about your complicated past with Sirius 👀
Omg I'm putting this under a cut, I'm not brave enough to say it right on the dash
In short, I used to kind of dislike Sirius. Kind of, because I didn’t really care about him that much. I didn’t care about any of the adult characters at all, except for Snape.
Looking at Sirius from a Snape perspective isn't that great, which was why I disliked him. But ironically it's also because I like Snape that I started to like Sirius. Because. I had been away from the fandom for a decade or so, when I stumbled upon the potterless podcast, and thought it would be fun to listen to it, a bit of a blast from the past. One of the guests in it brought up the idea of Snape and Lupin as a ship, and I went, hmm, you know what, enemies to lovers has always been my thing and I used to be a hard-core snarry shipper, so I would probably like snupin too. So I read some snupin, and I absolutely fell in love with Remus.
Because I'm a multishipper, I wanted to explore other Remus ships too, and, kind of begrudgingly, put aside my dislike of Sirius to read some wolfstar since it just so happens to be the most popular Remus ship. The more I read, the more I started to like Sirius, and here we are today, wolfstar as my favourite ship and Sirius as one of my favourite characters, who actually ranks above Snape. Never thought that would happen

imagine if instead of rewatching each episode of the show for the podcast the boys instead read fanfic inspired by each episode of the show
shouldn't be too difficult, megan probably already has them bookmarked
Look, they're going to run out of episodes one of these days and when they do, 5 years down the road once Sunnyblr has had its own Nov 5 and RCG are fully committed to the bit, that is absolutely what they should adapt the podcast to. Potterless-syle I guess we'll read My Immortal now?
There is also no doubt in my mind that Meg has read Sunny fanfic, love that. I have looked into that woman's eyes and I know it's in there.
Time to start plugging the fanfics on Reddit since we know they all read there *shivers*

Earlier in the week I had the discussion about a Harry Potter podcast I couldn't recommend. This time I will recommend one. "Potterless" is a podcast where a man who never read the books goes through them. It's lighter at first but by book's 6 and 7 the podcast does talk about some of the red flags in the world building. it's not as good at pointing out the anti-trans elements in the writing but it is I think a better take on a lot of the heavy handed racism and a much better take on the politics of the ministry.
It's also an ongoing hilarious take on how bad quidditch is. There is some messiness around Johnny Depp and because the podcast started pre-JKR going full on mask off twitter bigot there is some in retrospect cringey comments during the reads of the earlier books.
The strength and the weakness of this podcast is the rotating cast of guests and I think some of the best episodes are when he has critical people on. But some episodes the guests are Potter superfans who think JKR is the most brilliant writer ever.

Hello! It's me, Marissa Tandon, and I want to tell you about my new thing. Sappy text post incoming.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time on this website, keyboard smashing and meta tagging (and, ok, sometimes horny tagging, let's be honest with ourselves) about my favorite movies and TV shows. During the day, I spent hours trying to work through high school and extra curricular activities with the looming threat of applying to college very much breathing down my neck. And then after (and, okay, sometimes during) I consumed media and talked about it online like it was the elixir of the gods, escapism, and mental health.
I put a lot of that feeling into my latest audio drama, That Vampire Show, and into Kat's journey. But when I made that show, I also found myself so nervous to talk about it. Would people laugh when I said I was making a show about fandom? Would they roll their eyes when I talked about fan fiction and the community that can come out of it? Would they think I was weird for finding comfort in absolutely hyper fixating on media?
But I found something better: when I told people about That Vampire Show, they started to open up. People told me about the piece of media that they hyper fixated on, wrote fan fiction for, blogged about, and found comfort in. They shared about hard times in their life and how media and characters and online communities helped them get through it. And, at the end of those conversations, everyone said the same thing: I never get to talk about the stuff I love like this.
Growing up, I used to say that if I could just make being a fan a career, that's what I would do for the rest of my life. I'm not exactly there yet, but hosting You Are What You Love is one step closer to that. Every Wednesday, I sit down with a new guest and ask them one question: what piece of media changed who you are as a person?
They are some of the most joyous conversations I've had in a long time. There are five episodes out so far:
Lauren Grace Thompson (voice of Kat Wright) talked about Supernatural
Mike Schubert (host of Potterless, The Newest Olympian, and others) talked about seeing Bo Burnham live for the first time
Lauren Passell (writer of Podcast The Newsletter) talked about Calvin & Hobbes and Disney
Gabriel Urbina (writer of many things, including Wolf359) talked about Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Ashley Quach (writer, director, and children's book illustrator) talked about John Finnemore
And some more incredibly exciting guests are coming up soon (including Daniel Kibbelsmith (Marvel), David K Barnes (Wooden Overcoats), Molly Burdick (Pod & Prejudice) and so many others!). I hope you'll give the show a listen, and join me in trying to be more open and loud about the things that we love.
If you're into text posts like this, you can also subscribe to my newsletter, which I send out with every episode of the show.
Listen to You Are What You Love here.

Omg tell us about your favourite literature podcasts, I’m interested
I'm so excited to answer this sdfghsdfgh Here's a list of how I found them chronologically, not from my favourite to least favourite. I love all of them tho and I'm constantly looking for new ones, so if a mutual has literature themed podcasts recs (that are on Spotify), I'll be more than happy to check them out 💖
Potterless ("Join Mike Schubert, a grown man reading the Harry Potter seriesfor the first time, as he sits down with HP fanatics to poke fun at plot holes, make painfully incorrect predictions, and bask in the sassiness of the characters").
Goblet of Wine ("The British lifelong Harry Potter fans Hannah and Charlie re-read their favourite childhood book chapter by chapter with added alcohol and cynicism in fortnightly episodes!").
Obsidian Nights Podcast ("ASOIAF Re-Read Podcast. We will go thru every chapter of the A Song of Ice and Fire series unraveling the mysteries and secrets of this massive story").
The Newest Olympian ("Is Percy Jackson the book series we should've been reading all along?Join Mike Schubert as he reads through the books for the first time with the help of longtime PJO fans to cover the plot, take stabs at what happens next, and nerd out over the Greek mythology throughout").
Seaweed Brain: A Percy Jackson Podcast ("Discuss, overanalyze, and generally fangirl about each Percy Jackson book in three parts, with the ultimate goal of de-glorifying Western Civilization and answering the question, is Percabeth the greatest love story ever told?").
Camp Half-Pod: A Percy Jackson Podcast ("Just two demigods who love Percy Jackson. Join Erin and Manasa as we dive into the canon of the Percy Jackson universe, a few chapters at a time").
Pod and Prejudice ("Becca has read all of Jane Austen's work. Molly literally does not know who Mrs. Bennet is. Together, they venture into Austen's world of romance, biting satire, and class struggles").
That's What I'm Tolkien About ("Join Mary Clay Watt on her first journey through Lord of the Rings. Each episode is a chapter discussion of the books with fans, featuring mispronounced names, outlandish theories, and praise (or criticism!) of JRR Tolkien"). I'm gonna be honest and say that I haven't listened to this one yet but I want to as soon as I (finally!) get into reading LOTR and The Hobbit.
+ Mythology podcasts:
Let's Talk About Myths, Baby! Greek & Roman Mythology Retold ("The most entertaining and enraging stories from mythology told casually, contemporarily, and (let's be honest) sarcastically").
Spirits ("A boozy weekly podcast about mythology, legends and folklore. Hear fresh takes on classic myths and learn new stories from around the world, served up over ice by two tipsy history geeks").

Podcast Recs
podcast recomendations cause i've been trying to read the same paragraph of a psych study for an hour and i'm bored:
All of these are available of spotify (idk about elsewhere)
Seaweed Brain: A Percy Jackson Podcast - Seaweed Brain Legit a fav podcast of mine. the thesis is essentailly "Is Percabeth the greatest love story ever told" but its much more than just that
The Newest Olympian - Mike Schubert Similar premise to Potterless except with pjo
Punch up the Jam - HeadGum if i'm honest, I don't listen to the newer episodes but the old ones are great. the premise is basically: they take a ledgendary song, break it down, identify what wrong with it, and make it better. (comedic)
HORSE - Adam Mamawala & Mike Scubert a basketball podcast about everything except for the wins and losses. I havn't played or watched basketball since i was about 7 but that doesn't matter for this podcast - they make it easy for newbies to understand. entertaining even if you have no interest in basketball
Queer Movie Podcast - Multitude Youtuber Rowan Ellis and her friend Jabba talk about queer movies. sometimes they have special guests on - they are really good. I really enjoy this pod.
Recovering Gleek: A Glee Podcast - Ian Allred & Lena Conaster episode-by-episode talking about "all your complicated feelings about Glee".
Womanica - Wonder Media Network short 5-ish minute episodes about "incredible women throughout history". The stories are really well told.
Nothing much happens; bedtime stories to help you sleep - Kathryn Nicolai lovely comforting stories that fill my heart with joy.
Blind Landing - Ari Saperstein docu-podcast about elite sports.
Meddling Adults - Mike Schubert adults competing to solve childrens mysteries for charity. made you you can play along.
I might make a part two cause this is less than half of the podcasts I follow.
I listen to sooooo many podcasts
