Carina closed robe Anglaise gown
It's been a while since I've done potc redesign/musical costume design
So I came across this sewing pattern while looking through 1750s fashion. This is closed robe Anglaise gown dated from 1740s-1770s
Tumblr media
Since I've done redesigns and different dresses that Carina has worn
This dress is honestly fitted Carina to make it historically accurate in 1751.

Can we plEASE talk about chips redesign for half a minute because it is ✨✨✨SO SPECIAL✨✨✨ to me (ik it happened a WHILE ago but I’ve been wanting to talk about it for AGES)
Tumblr media
Not only is it literally beautiful, and and done with such wonderful attention to detail and design, BUT it also means so much to his character. Because like- think about it right? His original design, with the white shirt and the striped pants and the suspenders- they were carbon copies of what Arlin wore, because Chip wanted to be just like Arlin. He wanted to BE a carbon copy. Even Lizzie pointed out that he looked just like Arlin when they first saw each other on Joaldo.
And the tattoos- they were direct replicas of Arlin’s. And then what happened? His magic physically changed their appearance. And then he got new clothes. He realized something. (But I’ll get to that in just a second)
And this redesign? It’s completely unlike any other character we’ve ever seen. Sure, we see it and from the context most of us have of pirates (think OFMD, PotC, etc, etc), it’s pretty stereotypical pirate garb, but in the context of the Riptide universe, the only characters we’ve really seen that wear anything remotely similar are Lizzie and Ichabod (below) but even then, Chip’s design is very unique.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you see what I’m trying to say? Chip is no longer trying to be Arlin’s carbon copy. And he realized that when he got Arlin’s tattoos and they changed into his very own, unique rendition of them because of the magic. He still wants to find his dad, obviously (I don’t think he’ll EVER give up on that tbh), but at this point, he’s found his own person. He’s figured out who he is as Chip, Captain of the Riptide Pirates, when before, all he was was Chip, Arlin’s son and former black rose member. His redesign is a physical sign of his individuality. Plus, you can tell he’s living more in the present than in the memories of the black rose. There’s details littered all over his design that show this : the necklace that Aslana gave him, the riptide pirate crest on his cuffs, his pinky, the key hanging from his belt (that probably goes to their treasure so gill doesn’t throw it all in the ocean), the new scars, the shitty butter knife he picked up in Grimm’s manor, etc.
Chip’s redesign is a physical sign of how he’s changed and grown into his own person, instead of just being Like Arlin.

Commodore Norrington promotion redesign (with hat/without hat)
rip me putting the details on his coat :’)
I wanted to design his outfit sort of semi-formal for his promotion as a Commodore
From my previous Norrington redesign post, naval officers wear something formal for events or in portraits in early 18th century. I think it’s perfect for his ceremonial outfit redesign. I added the embroidery details in this look.
Cadogan style wigs become popular as long floof wigs still remained in first half of the century (long wigs persisted on among old men until 1760) . Tied back wigs become smaller around in 1720 and continue the reducing the size throughout the century.
I really want to add his cravat like one in the movie bc it’s cute on him :3
God why I made him feel look “princey” vibes and I cannot stop smile while coloring the design XD

Some doodles of humanized SBSP characters or SB musical redesigns I did while at family house... the only art supplies I have there are markers and coloured fineliners so the effect looks different than what I usually draw.
More content with them is coming soon so stay tuned...
Read more for my headcanons and trivia behind their designs!
Sheldon Plankton - slowly evolved from a mix of Chicago and Broadway appearances. His hair is dark green, the hairline is receding giving him an intelligent and academic appearance; he keeps whatever hair he has left in a ponytail, with two stubborn hairs always pointing up (similar to Hilda from Pokemon Black/White), and also sports short sideburns and a bushy unibrow. He wears an eyepatch on his right eye - I will elaborate on that later. As for the costume, I realized that cartoon!Plankton wears no clothes so I am free to make him wear whatever I like; he's very thin so he needs many layers to stay warm, especially in that metallic lab where he lives, and although he's human-sized now, they still don't make clothes his size. His corduroy trousers are a bit loose and are kept by suspenders. The turtleneck shrunk down in laundry and doesn't look that bad now. The jacket is the only piece of clothing that did fit from the beginning, so he's been wearing it non-stop for the past few decades, and it shows. Also comfy sports shoes to keep up with his scheming.
Eugene Krabs - I gave him the facial hair of Colonel Sanders (but red), which invokes both “fast food“ and “businessman”, and also a new haircut. Other than that he doesn't wear the boxing gloves all the time, but keeps them close in case Plankton needs to be punched out of Krusty Krab.
Karen - her human-looking body is actually a hologramic projection form her computer body, with her voice coming from the computer as well - they always stay close. To avoid spending an unreasonable amount of RAM on rendering, the more detailed parts of her skin are covered with accesories: goggles for the eyes and gloves for the hands. And her hair is styled in a bun for a serious professional look. Oh, and the screen is at the same height as Sheldon's head.
SpongeBob - first I imagined him as a thin boy, but now he's more square-shaped (he... obviously should have been like that from the beginning), with curly blonde hair like the boy from Reksio cartoon, and a square jawline to make him look at least slightly adult. He wears the sweater and shirt from Chicago version paired with longer pants from the Broadway version.
Plankrab - boy oh boy this was fun! Obviously he doesn't appear in the musical, debuting in an episode released years after the musical's premiere, so I could design the human version from scratch. While borrowing elements from both human!Plankton and human!Krabs, he's also generally more conventionally attractive, being tall, broad-shouldered, with a prominent chin. The idea was to make him look like a himbo, while he's certainly not behaving like one - just his ordinary two-facedness. Hair color is dark reddish-brown, he has Plankton's ponytail (but shorter and bushier) and Krabs's fringe and eyebrows, and also bushy sideburns (kinda like Mister Gibbs from PotC, just without the beard part). He's got a glass eye, but I will elaborate on that later. And while in the cartoon Plankrab dresses just like Krabs, my humanization combines that with clothes stolen from Plankton too, since old man is fully dressed in this version (well... that was before Plankrab).
And in case you want to borrow some headcanons, sure, go ahead, let's make designing humanizations a common activity!

Years ago this "Next Pirates" were suppose to be fanchilds of the PotC characters like Davy Jones/Calipso, William Turner/Elizabeth Swann, Barbossa y Jack sparrow/Angelica, Shame on me, (i was really dumb and young in that time).
But now, I've renamed, redesigned and probably relive them and rewrite their stories.

Carina’s finale gown historical redesign redraw
In first half of 18th cent., it’s difficult to make purple dyes from natural sources before synthetic mauvine dye in 19th cent. However, there’s some portraits of 18th cent. dresses are purple but purple fabrics wasn’t common in that time.
I chose blue which is Carina’s main color.
Carina’s dress is based from c.1750 dress at MET museum.

Carina’s historically accurate chemise à la reine gown
As I made one with 1770s round gown before, I decide to draw with chemise a la reine. As mention before, Carina’s dress from the movie is a mix of chemise a la reine and the round gown (especially the construction of the dress).
Chemise à la Reine, Robe a la Creole, or gaulle was popular in 1780s-1790s. Popularized by Queen Marie Antoinette (my favorite queen from history) and everyone thinking this was scandalous after they saw the portrait of the queen wearing that dress was painted by Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun. The queen used this as a rebellion against stifling French court life. The queen was criticized for not promoting the French silk industry.
The dress was made out of muslin. However, the material brought the exploitation by colonization in that time. Especially, was imported from Dhaka, Bengal (now Bangladesh) by British East India Company.
The dress is also called Robe a la Creole because of the white dress and sash and there’s some connections of Caribbean influenced the dress. Some sources said there’s some connections of the dress was very likely worn by free women of color (and also white women) in the French colonies in the Caribbean and French Louisiana with the chemise gown and dressing gown and the style was worn by upper class white women as an adaptation of French dress to the tropical climate. It’s possible to say the dress was appropriated of the clothing of enslaved Caribbean women by white European women.
To learn more about the origins of chemise à la reine, I recommend looking up this article
Back to the drawing, Carina is holding gardenia flower (it looks like a white rose in the drawing), symbolizes trust, clarity, hope and renewal.

Lieutenant Norrington redesign
What if Norrington dressed historically
I’m planning to do the redesigning series of my man Norrington’s historically costumes.
So, the Holy Trinity movies set in probably around late 1720s. Here, Norri was 17 in late 1710s in the beginning of the first film.
The Royal Navy uniforms wasn’t existed in first half of 18th century until it was introduced in 1748.
Before 1748, naval officers dressed whatever they want. They wear something formal, expensive and courteous when appear in society or portraits
In difference, naval officers feared that they were less respectable compared to their military counterparts because they don’t have their own uniform.
In this redesign, I use the color palettes from each of his uniforms but in different shades (as well I’m using for future redesigns).
I took various fashion plates and portraits for inspo.
For the wig, I don’t want him with big floof bc the big floof long wigs was remained popular from 1700 until 1720. Instead, I inspired from Voltaire’s wig to make Norri less ridiculous than wearing big floofy wig.

Admiral Norrington redesign
~
In my personal opinion, I kind of don’t like his uniform from AWE ^^;.
So I redesign with navy blue palette with soft gold color I found on google to give his outfit a “gloomy” feel (because he died in that movie *cries*).

“I am the very model of a modern major privateer”
Barbossa privateer costume redesign for OST(POTC: Fountain of Youth, alternatively), an one act show musical adaptation on Hyperion LIVE at DCA/Disney Cruise Line concept I think of while in middle of progress of revision the full plot of DMTNT musical.
I inspired one of the old engravings of famous pirates (like Calico Jack and Charles Vane)
I changed the long floof wig that dates from around late 17th century to late 1710s to a pretty less floof wigs dates from late 1720s to early 1750s
Bicorn hats was adapt in 1790s and I redesign to simple tricorn hat
In theatrical way for his peg leg, I saw different productions of Treasure Island or Mobey Dick where they strap the actor’s leg up and put the peg on their knee.
Ex. pic
Tumblr media
Although, there’s some health problems such as blood pressure while wearing the peg leg. I researched that the knee pads in the peg will help. The actor will play Barbossa shouldn’t wear a peg leg for long. I’m thinking the actor should take a few break and removed the peg leg during in middle of some scenes of the show so his leg is out of harness hold up and let some the blood flow.
And for the DMTNT musical, Barbossa’s leg was recovered (thanks to Shansa). That part was from one of the early scripts for the 5th film and I’ll put that for my concept. Bc I want my man dance tehehhe

Angelica is not satisfied to Jack *playing Hamilton deleted song Congratulations*
Here’s my Angelica design for my DMTNT musical concept
I read the rumor before the start of production of DMTNT movie is that Penelope Cruz is supposed to return the cast but she didn’t
The reason why I added Angelica in the musical because she deserves more character development and a real return. Angelica will appear in act 2 where she confronts Jack and roasting him by accountability in front of everyone after he freed his beloved Black Pearl from the bottle.
Also, I will cast of any actress will play both Angelica and Shansa in the musical.
I interpreted Angelica should be more spiritual, caution, determined, flexible, and encourage character and I saw her will make a good god-mother to Carina giving advices about self-care and other treatments for her mental health.
Now for the costume
Here, she is wearing “jumps”. Jumps are like quilted stays but without bones and more comfortable.
And she wore military boots here
