I thought this was SOOO fun and cute! I'm usually not into rpf but did anyone else think there was something between bilbo and thorin? 👀 I can't be the only one who saw it. but the ending made me cry my eyes out.

That period between Aragorn's marriage and the Elves leaving Middle-earth must have been absolutely wild for the scribes, librarians, historians and archivists of Minas Tirith, because you suddenly have the people of Rivendell, who are packing, graciously sending for you to quickly transcribe the texts they're taking with them so the knowledge is not lost from mortals, but also just gifting you tons of priceless manuscripts because they have more than one edition of the same thing, or because they're sure there are many more in the West, and there's obviously no need to take 20 copies of Rumil's Ainulindalë with them.
And on the other hand, everyone who knew him is certain Finrod has been pestering every single new arrival in Valinor for information about Men, and you're Faramir, and Elrond asks you for a favour and is like, "Galadriel wants to collect as much information about your cultures and history as she can for her brother; do you think you could find anything of interest in Minas Tirith?", and you're like "The Lady of the Golden Wood....???? Fi-nrod Edenn-il???", of course you'll butcher the job, this is too much, but ultimately you just may have prepared a dossier for the greatest hero of the First Age and you have to lie down for a moment.

nothing, just tolkien originally writing down the hobbit because his son christopher kept complaining that he'd change the details from night to night and then christopher later being so crucial in taking tolkien's notes and turning them into fully written novels of worldbuilding. loving someone to the point of creation and then having them help you finish the job.

Yk what cracks me up is that the Council of Elrond isn’t even an organized event planned years in advance or anything. It’s just like…the messengers of a bunch of world leaders with a bunch of different problems coming to Elrond for advice but coincidentally they all get there at the same time,,,,
It’s hilarious. Elrond sitting them down like schoolchildren at a history lesson to explain how all their problems are connected. The random forming of the fellowship bc it’s a bunch of strangers prepared to go take a message back home but instead they get sent on a quest to save the world,,,,
Just the chaos of it all. The way literally everyone’s initial response to their problems was “let’s go ask Elrond.”
“Let’s go as Elrond” is the middle earth equivalent of “google it” and I think that’s great.

I’m not going to call this a headcanon, but rather a head-characterization, but I believe that each of the Finwean first born heirs (Maedhros, Fingon, Finrod) wished a different uncle was his father
Or, rather, that their father was more like one of their uncles. Like so-
Maedhros, looks at Fingolfin and sees a king and a diplomat and a statesman of unrivaled poise. His father is not so composed, he’s flighty and bombastic, genius but miserable at following the details of things that don’t interest him. Is it wrong that Maedhros wishes to be the heir of someone with such focus and dignity as Fingolfin?
Fingon, meanwhile, looks at Finarfin and sees a good man with good perspective. His father is more short-sighted, more prone to offense and pettiness. His father is also deeply committed to honor and decency! But he misses moments of simple joy, freedom, and forgiveness. Why could Fingon’s house not also simply live happily like Finarfin’s?
Finrod, though, oh Finrod, he looks at Feanor and he sees and Elf-prince of stature and grandiosity and individuality. His father is a simple man, a kind and good man, but he lacks all ambition. He won’t do anything to advance his interests, his name and power, or that of his children. Why could Finrod not be the son of so great and bright an Elf as Feanor?
All three of them love their fathers, but there is a point where their values don’t align, and there is an uncle who fits their vision just a little better…

I am once again thinking about how good the story of the second age is, and all the fun things you could do with an actually decent adaptation. Consider:
Galadriel should be exactly the same as she is in Lord of the Rings. She is older, weirder and more powerful than any elf other elf in Middle Earth. Other elves are just as unnerved by her as mortals, and dealing with her is stressful at the best of times.
Elrond should be an absolute infant. Just, complete baby face. But everyone treats him super respectfully and he has a lot of power and influence. The energy should be the same as when the super ancient and powerful vampire or faerie or whatever looks like a ten year old girl.
ALSO there should be a tall, menacing elf with visible tattoo and facial scars who just. Stands behind Elrond looking intimidating all the time. The least elf-looking elf ever. All the other elves are uncomfortable around them. Elrond should treat them like their an Aunt or Uncle. The elf is one of the few surviving hard-line Feanorians, all of whom follow Elrond. The longer you can go without explaining this, the better.
Gil-Galad is very tired, and spends a lot of time balancing one of the most famously unstable political systems in all of Arda. Galadriel and Elrond both have factions they support to strongly to be relied on to be impartial. The reason he doesn't worry much about what Celebrimbor's up to is that he's the one member of the family who is highly unlikely to attempt something batshit nuts, and his followers are mostly moderate.
Celebrimbor and Annatar/Sauron should spend the whole series playing complicated mindgames with each other.
Annatar is playing four-dimensional chess from the beginning. For him, this is an all or nothing gamble. If he can't make the rings he won't have the power to seize control on his own. He should spend a lot of time having Light Yagami-level monologues where he tries to figure out what game Celebrimbor is playing while outwardly pretending to be harmless and normal and only succeeding at this about 75% of the time.
Celebrimbor should start of thinking the stakes are considerably lower. Like... is Annatar hiding something? Yea, but he figures Annatar doesn't actually have permission from the Valar to be here or something. Not, ya know, Annatar is secretly Satan in disguise. In the first act there should be an almost comical disconnect between the amount of energy Sauron is putting in to these mind games versus Celebrimbor.
Bonus points if as Celebrimbor figures out the truth, you intersperse more and more of his family backstory. The guilt he is still carrying for a lot the things that happened in the first age. Early on bring in the fact that Finrod went into Sauron's jaws alone and it was Curufin's fault, use this as angst material. And then as he figures out who Sauron really is, drop Maedhros and Thangorodrim in like a nuclear bomb.
Because Celebrimbor has seen this play before, and he knows what Sauron does to people. It wasn't even personal then, what Sauron is going to do to him will be so much worse.
And Celebrimbor chooses to forge the three rings anyway. He doesn't give up their locations, even with everything Sauron does to him at the end. And that should be devestating.

Topics of conversation among the elven party come to visit Minas Tirith for Aragorn and Arwen's wedding:
Whether the paintings and tapestries of legendary events made by the city's denizens are accurate
Whether Glorfindel should be shown tapestries depicting his fall
Balrogs don't look like that
Whether Osgiliath really was as pretty as they say
Whether Osgiliath or Annuminas was prettier
Whether the Rohirrim resemble the house of Hador much
Whether Aredhel would have gotten on well with Eowyn (difficult question because on the one hand - gestures at everything - and on the other: Aredhel was a difficult person at times, had never met one of the secondborn and would likely have mortally offended the other within ten minutes)
Another Gondorian woman looking a bit like Lúthien
Why do Lúthien look-alikes turn up generations upon generations after Elros
Does Minas Tirith feature too many stone walls and too little greenery
Is there something wrong with the Noldor for not minding being cooped up within stone walls
There having still been far more greenery in Tirion last time the exiles had been there (7000 years ago)
Whether Tirion was much changed when Glorfindel last saw it (3000 years ago)
Whether Gondorians naming their children after Túrin of all people is taking things a bit too far
Whether an inkeeper should be informed his prized family heirloom is an elvish dinner knife
Whether a courtier should be informed his prized family heirloom had been made by Curufin because on the one hand he might consider it cool, and on the other hand - Curufin
Whether a certain type of cake should best be eaten hot or cold
Can you use osanwë accidentally and is it cheating if it happens while you're playing bridge

House of Finwë family tree, based on the later version from HoME. I chose to stop at Elrond & Elros' generation, but later added Arwen as a side note, which is why her brothers are not included.
