The Favor
When Youngblood became a ghost he actually didn't think he would be so lonely. It was stressful and annoying, being so young, watching the years go by but never being able to move on or change. He was a child who died, and the only way for him to feel like a child again was to play.
But even then he felt invisible. That made his powers listen to his wishes and cause no adult to see him. And maybe that was for the better, adults were scary, adults could hurt you. They wouldn't understand.
Meeting the other ghosts was both a blessing and a curse. Everyone saw him as a kid, some thought he was annoying and others played with him. He was grateful to Ember for spending so much of her time being a pirate, but he didn't want to take up so much of her time. It made him feel guilty.
When Danny became King and the ghost kid heard that he was destined to help the other ghosts, Youngblood plucked up his courage and asked him for a favor: Find him a friend. One alive that wanted to play and never get bored of it.
Danny took the task very seriously, looking for all possible candidates, avoiding ghosts. Until he found a more or less suitable friend: Klarion. He was older than Youngblood but seemed to be just as bored. Clockwork looked at him in dismay at his solution to the problem but didn't stop him.
This led to the Justice League being defeated by Klarion, who had taken over the Watchtower and seemed to be happily talking to air. He was seconds away from destroying the earth or something similar with death ray, but there was nothing they could do about it.
Everyone froze when a portal opened next to the boy and someone came out asking "How are the new friends?" Before realizing the situation, the creature sighed in disappointment and destroyed the death ray with a snap of his fingers. A girl just like him came out of the portal excited ignoring everyone and began to talk to the air. Klarion seemed to be following the conversation.
Danny watched Youngblood talking to Dani and Klarion, he knew that his cousin could be good company, but he hadn't contacted her before due to her travels and status as a halfa (the probability of destroying the world was there too); well, now Youngblood had two friends (that solved the problem) but- how did he prevent them from ending the world? Or worse, from terrorize innocent cosplayers?

Dick: if I was an animal, what animal do you think I would be? Serious answers only!
Wally: a rooster!
Jason: A Rat.
Tim: A Rat.
Duke: A Rat.
Cass: A Rat.
Steph: you’d be a Rat.
Damian: Grayson you’re a rat.
Dick: >:( I think I’d be a wolf!
Dick: I think so too.
Duke: did you just-
Dick: I would be a wolf-lion hybrid mix.
Damian: ???
Dick: King of the junjile- the junjile but still social and with it and ferocious.
Alfred: As you can see the pain medication is still very much in effect. If you all would be so kind as to let him rest rather than use him for amusement? Out! The lot of you!

here's a hot take for today
the narrative function of sex is the same as the narrative function of fight scenes is the same as the narrative function of songs in a musical
no i will not explain
#taz talks#writing#actually i WILL explain but i'll do it in the tags#these each serve the same function within their respective appropriate genres#each one is a kind of revelation#they heighten the connection between 2+ characters and highlight relationships and feelings and needs#they are out of place in genres where they do not belong and/or as curveballs when the narrative did not provoke them from the start#but they have the same sort of emotional/dramatic build-up#talk -> sing -> dance (talk -> yell -> stab) ((talk -> flirt -> You Know))#and they are all expressions of intense physicality and intimacy through physical gesture and interaction#they are fundamentally empty and boring if there is not a deeper purpose or drive behind them#although they can still occasionally be entertaining on their own if your audience is specifically seeking that experience out#people who do not like them will be very unhappy to encounter one where it isn't supposed to be#it is very easy to ruin the mood with poor word choice#many people have an inherent sense for terrible ones but it's often difficult or complicated to explain precisely why a bad one fails#when executed properly they are a very raw and intimate expression of a character's most fundamental needs and desires#the fluff is stripped away and there is nothing left but a series of needs. conflicting or cooperating.#and even when you're lying during one it's still a form of truth#none of these things are remotely necessary to tell a powerful or compelling story but if you're going to use them you need to do it right#also all 3 of these things are difficult if not impossible to write if you are not both interested in them and personally invested#this post brought to you by me trying to write smut about my dnd characters and failing because i generally hate /reading/ smut#so i have none of the vocabulary or instinct for it that i do for. say. graphic violence (or lyrical poetry)

After reading your snippets I usually have kinda weird but upmost entertaining dreams.
Today it was Sokka as a bookshop assistant, doing deliveries. Local Tea Guy was claiming his vision is not as good as it was, so he made his half blind nephew read to him. Half of Iroh's books are self help books, and it took Sokka like, two seconds to get the picture. It helped that during readings Azula kept making dry comments on everything and Iroh was doing miniature embroidery.
Sokka made reports of those readings and gave recommendations on which book fits best to Zuko's feral tone.
Thank you for your stories! I like them very much and you helped me a lot to don't shy away from including seemingly silly/just for fun details into my own art.
All the love <3
This is a whole one shot fic right here, thank you for gifting us with Screen Reader Zuko (Does Not Realize He's Being Tricked Into Being a Self-Help Encyclopedia) on this fine morning

Admittedly I'm a bit behind on streams, and I don't watch Cellbit directly, so this could be wrong.
But something I've noticed is that Cellbit refers to his time before the island with Bad as 'the War'; any time I have seen him bring it up he has referred to it as such. Bad has also reaffirmed that they fought together in 'the War' whenever it was brought up.
But today when Bad was talking to the ghosties and dropped that reveal that the reason he was there was to keep an eye on Cellbit (and others), that it was his responsibility, he at some point referred to it as Hunger Games.
Maybe it was a slip up since that's what the videos/games that the CCs played together, but... if not then I wonder do Bad and Cellbit remember these events completely differently. Does Cellbit think he was sent to fight in a war, but Bad know that it was all some sort of elaborate, terrifying game/tournament?

This is niche (maybe) but please share more about ice and mav at Oshkosh!! Do they go yearly? Or just the one time? Are they part of any aviation enthusiast communities???
Tumblr media
yes yes yes!!! going to air shows is 100% a date for both of them. i feel like: a couple things:
- they’ve both probably seen the blue angels so many times it’s not super exciting anymore, and until they retire & become private citizens it’s also too big of a Thing for them to go, so they try to go to civilian/private air shows if they can
- one exception is fleet week for obvious rzns. They both probably have to do shit for fleet week on the reg. Ice especially
- i do keep thinking it would be funny for mav to do like a two year tour with the BAs at some point but there wasn’t room for that in the narrative so it’s Schrödinger’s headcanon
- before they retire their schedules are super crazy packed & don’t always line up, even if they request certain dates (like each other’s birthdays, Xmas, thanksgiving, Oshkosh etc) off in advance, so Oshkosh specifically doesn’t become yearly until after they retire. But after they retire they do annually fly in to Oshkosh in their p-51. lots of picnic lunch breaks in Reno/Omaha/Boise etc
- theyve been to the big international air shows (farnborough, Paris, NOT dubai for security/gay people issues, etc) together a couple times when they can swing it. (Me looking for any excuse to send them back to europe on vacation) but before they retire it’s also probably a Thing. So Thing-ness (public & Navy engagement etc) has to be accounted for when they’re planning their trip. they do have a responsibility to rep the Navy as best as they can etc etc
- Thing-ness also has to be accounted for when joining aviation enthusiast groups… after they retire & get married hell yes!!! they probably have a ton of civilian aviation friends & are pretty involved. not before their marriage though. It takes a while for them to come out of the hidden little shell they’ve been living in for thirty years & make friends as a real couple. but they do eventually.

Three of Hearts
Armand/Daniel/Lestat
7k
Explicit
threesome, voyeurism, exhibitionism, d/s, anal sex, breeding kink, cock warming, armand being the world's bossiest dom, lestat subs even when he tops, daniel is just along for the ride, post canon, canon compliant smut, filth with a fluffy ending
"You know Daniel had a terrible crush on you, back when you were busy playing at being a musician," Armand said, cards clicking against the table as he set them down.
Blood rushed through Daniel's face, up to the tips of his ears. Lestat had been sprawled out in his chair but at Armand’s words he sat up, rested his chin on his hand and fixed Daniel with the kind of stare that would have made the mortal version of him want to wither and crawl into a hole.
“Is that so? I wondered about that, actually,” Lestat said as he laid a card down and took a new one from the deck. No reaction to the card at all. Daniel wasn’t sure if he had an excellent poker face or if he was just so intent on staring a hole right through his soul that he’d forgotten to care about the game itself. “You were always giving me these funny looks back on Night Island.”
Armand laughed. Traitor. “Yes, he’s not terribly subtle, is he?”
“Don’t worry, Daniel, I didn’t pry. I didn’t think it right to use the mind gift on someone so freshly turned and innocent, and besides,” Lestat continued. “I like to hear my partners tell me exactly what they want out loud.”
Daniel glanced up from his cards long enough to see Armand roll his eyes. There was that furrow in his brow, invisible to mortal eyes but familiar enough to Daniel. He was saying something to Lestat. Something Daniel could not hear unless Lestat had let down the veil on his mind just enough for Daniel to listen in secondhand, which was so unlikely Daniel didn’t even bother to check. Lestat kept his brain locked like a vault.
And besides, Lestat would notice. And that would only make him suspicious, and then that suspicion would turn on Daniel just when the scene before him was getting interesting

I'm listening to the Red Dragon audiobook, and the one thing I take issue with is that the narrator gives every other southerner an accent, but not Will Graham. None of the adaptations give him an accent. The man grew up poor in rural Louisiana and spent the first part of his career in New Orleans! He's gonna have some sort of accent!
He can be brilliant profiler that Hannibal is interested in or in love with and be a southerner with a southern accent, I promise!

gun to my head i could not name a single hk actor in their 20s rn and perhaps 1 in their 30s (william chan, but i know him from mainland dramas so...) but the immense influence golden age hk actors and filmmakers in general have had on cinema (this INCLUDES hollywood btw! action movies would not look like they do now without john woo, ringo lam, herman yau, yuen woo-ping, etc...) is so insane like. even if i werent obsessed w andy i wld know his name as well as most of his contemporaries! and quite a lot of them had v humble beginnings the only thing they have in common is that generally they were in tvb acting classes but during that time that was p much the only place where you could go to acting class unless you were in a theatre troupe (like the lucky seven/seven little fortunes; u might know yuen biao, sammo hung, j*ckie chan, etc who were its members)

Last night I watched Infinity Pool on Soap2day and there's three flashy multicolored sequences that go on for too long, you actually almost start to get bored after the initial reveal of what's happening in those flashy sequences. Possessor has - imo - just the right amount of hallucinogenic flashy shit, while Infinity Pool has too much. Sorry, younger Cronenberg, but you overdid it on that.
Intellectual shit + minor spoilers under the cut:
Other than that nitpick..... it's commentary on how rich people can get away with all sorts of fucked up shit, among other things - and there are other themes, the rich people thing is just the most obvious. Wealth corrupts when a corrupt system is willing to let illegality slide if you're able to pay them for it - making you watch your own clone be executed is fucked up, but you get to live while being meant to learn from the experience. The rich people, however, just thought it was entertainment. Those who come from middling means - like James Foster - can become corrupted by that permissive glamour of wealth, the ability to court danger and commit illegal acts like it's nothing due to a guaranteed financial safety net, and damage themselves as a result.
The one who was bankrolling everything, his SO, had her head on straight - she saw the horror of it all and left. He was taken in by what her wealth could give him to an unhealthy extent, and he stayed. He lied to her about the missing passport, he knew exactly where it was.
Also, we in the lower classes have no idea what kind of twisted stuff the 1% could be opportunistically getting up to because money can both pay for and cover up the worst of humanity. The island government took care of everything, nobody had to lift a single finger. They didn't even have to cremate their dead clones, the whole process of watching the execution was just intense theater to them while the actual islanders took it seriously. There's such significant exploitation once the movie really gets rolling, both financial and interpersonal - and the interpersonal is a whole other can of worms that's tied to the financial aspect. So with that in mind, I did manage to enjoy the movie and I will be watching it again because I'm interested in parsing out additional meaning.
