Postcards from Snagglepuss
Peter Potamus, quite the adventurer indeed!
AT THE BASE CAMP OF PETER POTAMUS' MAGIC DIVERS NEAR LA JOLLA, CA: As if that Magic Balloon wasn't already quite the vehicle of Peter Potamus in his adventures of Polynesia Uncharted, that charmer can certainly regale you with many tales from such fascinating regions he's ever sworn to secrecy about, and For Reasons Obvious.
The which was evident the other evening sitting at the dock of the lagoon as leads into the near-shore dive practice area, and over a modest little fire with hot Dr Pepper laced with clove-studded lemons, he shared an experience he had with a native gal who had just given birth underwater to twins, and with the help of a dolphin assisting in the labour as well--"which, Snagglepuss, is quite an interesting phenom among such peoples who the dolphins actually see as close and yet mystical friends!"
"And I take it, Peter," said I between sips of hot Dr Pepper, "that such childbirth underwater is something of a habit among them."
"Habit--and tradition, Snag," Peter remarked. "Such fascinating specimens of natural Polynesian wonder, naked as Nature intended as well, see underwater births as an offering unto their gods to affirm such wonderful connexions they have unto the sea, and to pass such on to the new generation just born as well! And before long, those babies literally start swimming and diving towards their mothers, who more than likely will breast feed such underwater in the process!"
"I take it they enjoy such stimulation at the mother's breast."
"Snagglepuss ... how else would such newborns actually experience breastfeeding while getting some fascination for the water out of their system? Nothing, believe you me, fascinates such wonderfully natural natives more than to dive in the shallows just off their village and have their fill of mother's milk! And they CERTAINLY enjoy every last drop when they dive carefree and naked on the edges of the reef!"
"So I take it they also get some early diving experience as well...."
"Basically," Peter explained, "it's a sort of game these mothers and the wet nurses will enjoy playing, the better to get them to develop some swimming and diving skills early ... but what's even more amazing, and I've witnessed this several times, is that the mothers will gently prod their infants to explore the sheer fascination that is diving by gradually moving out a little further from shore week by week, in time incorporating into the breast feeding session some discovery of diving!"
"Heavens to Jacques Cousteau!"
"What's especially fascinating is where these youngsters will have some of their earliest dives to about three feet down, naked--and holding their breath as well, just gliding over some primal coral reefs and developing some early pelvic sensations for some reason or another! What could be more naturally Polynesian than to be diving literally from birth?!"
"So how exactly would the birth mother feel giving birth underwater with the help of a dolphin?"
"Rather comforting, Snagglepuss ... and the birthing pains are not as obvious, which can be put down to the warmth of the ocean waters, her obvious nakedness and the vibes, you might say, coming from the dolphin as it pokes its way close to her vagina ahead of delivery! How else could childbirth feel more delightful?"
"For such people who see sex as a natural source of fun ... when it winds up in pregnancy, how else could it feel?"
The two of us chuckled at the notion as the moon rose overhead.

At the outset of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds (1898), Wells asks his English readers to compare the Martian invasion of Earth with the Europeans' genocidal invasion of the Tasmanians, thus demanding that the colonizers imagine themselves as the colonized, or the about-to-be-colonized. But in Wells this reversal of perspective entails something more, because the analogy rests on the logic prevalent in contemporary anthropology that the indigenous, primitive other's present is the colonizer's own past. Wells's Martians invading England are like Europeans in Tasmania not just because they are arrogant colonialists invading a technologically inferior civilization, but also because, with their hypertrophied brains and prosthetic machines, they are a version of the human race's own future.
The confrontation of humans and Martians is thus a kind of anachronism, an incongruous co-habitation of the same moment by people and artifacts from different times. But this anachronism is the mark of anthropological difference, that is, the way late-nineteenth-century anthropology conceptualized the play of identity and difference between the scientific observer and the anthropological subject-both human, but inhabiting different moments in the history of civilization. As George Stocking puts it in his intellectual history of Victorian anthropology, Victorian anthropologists, while expressing shock at the devastating effects of European contact on the Tasmanians, were able to adopt an apologetic tone about it because they understood the Tasmanians as "living representatives of the early Stone Age," and thus their "extinction was simply a matter of … placing the Tasmanians back into the dead prehistoric world where they belonged" (282-83). The trope of the savage as a remnant of the past unites such authoritative and influential works as Lewis Henry Morgan's Ancient Society (1877), where the kinship structures of contemporaneous American Indians and Polynesian islanders are read as evidence of "our" past, with Sigmund Freud's Totem and Taboo (1913), where the sexual practices of "primitive" societies are interpreted as developmental stages leading to the mature sexuality of the West. Johannes Fabian has argued that the repression or denial of the real contemporaneity of so-called savage cultures with that of Western explorers, colonizers, and settlers is one of the pervasive, foundational assumptions of modern anthropology in general. The way colonialism made space into time gave the globe a geography not just of climates and cultures but of stages of human development that could confront and evaluate one another.
The anachronistic structure of anthropological difference is one of the key features that links emergent science fiction to colonialism. The crucial point is the way it sets into motion a vacillation between fantastic desires and critical estrangement that corresponds to the double-edged effects of the exotic. Robert Stafford, in an excellent essay on "Scientific Exploration and Empire" in the Oxford History of the British Empire, writes that, by the last decades of the century, "absorption in overseas wilderness represented a form of time travel" for the British explorer and, more to the point, for the reading public who seized upon the primitive, abundant, unzoned spaces described in the narratives of exploration as a veritable "fiefdom, calling new worlds into being to redress the balance of the old" (313, 315). Thus when Verne, Wells, and others wrote of voyages underground, under the sea, and into the heavens for the readers of the age of imperialism, the otherworldliness of the colonies provided a new kind of legibility and significance to an ancient plot. Colonial commerce and imperial politics often turned the marvelous voyage into a fantasy of appropriation alluding to real objects and real effects that pervaded and transformed life in the homelands. At the same time, the strange destinations of such voyages now also referred to a centuries-old project of cognitive appropriation, a reading of the exotic other that made possible, and perhaps even necessary, a rereading of oneself.

saying that asian countries are not sexist, homophobic and transphobic is just wrong. they are, denying and saying that "well not everybody is, and there is change" is missing the point. majority is not.
Like I genuinely wish it was not the truth. But pretending that it fucking isn't is stupid, and prevents progress, so people stop calling Asian countries backwards.
Like no! If you don't live in Asia, and just see from an English speaking perspective you will not see just how bad it is. And it is "hey it is Ramadan, so in the spirit of love and forgiveness let's bring a victim of horrific emotional and physical abuse and HER ABUSER together to try and RECONCILE THEM". on national television.
Sincerely, spoken from an Asian.
it's really funny because anon, I am also Asian.
I'm Chinese/Polynesian.
And that anon being all like oh wow so you think China is homophobic??? you racist.
like bro.
america is homophobic.
is that racist against whites, to say that, like
i swear to God, no one knows what racism is anymore because these children throw it around like a monolithic label.
it's like saying oh you think Latin machismo culture is sexist???
so just say you hate Latinos and Latin culture!!
like bitch, are you joking
my rebellious instinct is to say, if Latino "culture" entirely hinges upon treating women like lesser citizens for being female and celebrates unnecessary aggression and derides emotion as weakness and oh yeah, cuts funding for women's shelters because they report too many violent male crimes against them and makes a specific country look bad (i.e., caring more about their country looking good than protecting women).
then yeah.
fuck that culture.
and call me a racist if you must, but it's not exactly a bad fucking thing that some countries have anti discrimination laws.
like ooh what a toxic culture, look at western hegemony, trying to tell women they have the right to not be sexually harassed at work.
like there's a fucking line between "forcing" other countries to follow your culture, and protecting what should be basic fucking human rights.
but you know, that idea is bullshit anyway.
these people are not arguing with good faith here.
they're riled up today and I really don't feel like engaging that much.
I know the truth, and I'm not gonna spend time playing word games with losers who've never lifted a finger to help anyone.
they're good at attacking, they don't know how to actually help.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE! 🖤
How has your week been, lovelies?
My week started off with a touch of a cold, but thankfully hasn't developed into the flu or anything. One of the things I really can't stand most, is that feeling of being all bunged up in your face - bleurgh. Just no thank you ✋🏻
Otherwise, it's been all systems go as usual on the Jett plane. ✈️ Busy with work, busy with friends and busy with writing! 🥵
So Jack, let's crack that whip n' get into this week's whip round, sugar. Yeehaw!
Tumblr media
Catch up on last week here, sugar.
☆ Things I've posted this week
Five Days - Chapter 3 - We're starting to get into the meat of this Joel Miller story a bit now and I'm so thankful for all of you that read, re-blog and leave comments on this. I am so glad you're all enjoying it!
Polynesian Kiss - One Shot - My first time writing for Max Phillips which was super fun! 🩸
Ring Toss - One Shot - Donuts & Frankie? Always a tasty treat. Inspired by the awesome & lovely @secretelephanttattoo and her Doughnut Debauchery Marcus Pike Fic. 🍩
Clickbait - Joel Miller GIFLET. I went over 500 words on this one, and I'm not sorry.
Cuts Like Glass - Dave York GIFLET. I'm considering expanding on this one... got a few ideas brewing in the ol' noggin for Dave. 😏
Ezra Ask - My lovely @sweetenerobert was putting ideas into my head first thing on Monday morning, and this quick drabble was the result. 🥵
Lazy Sunday Frankie Vibes HCs - This pic of Pedro from the La Vanguardia shoot, got me thinking some hot Frankie thots... 🔥
I also had some spicy Frankie thots on this awesome post by @rebel-held too. 🖤 Frankie Friday messed me up this week! 🫠
This week's Self-Care with Dieter & Jett focused on Sexual Expression & Repression. And we had World Mental Health Day on Tuesday. 🌍🧠❤️
Phew! It's been a busy week! 🥵
☆ Things I'm currently working on
• Editing the final draft of my Halloween fic to drop on Oct 31st. I'm excited for this one!
• Working on some more GIFLETS as always.
• A fair few one shot drafts that I've always got brewing. Have finished editing a Marcus Pike one shot that I'll probably post next week.
☆ Things I've read this week
My Favourite Fic Recs List hasn't been updated yet this week yet as I've been busy with other things, however all these stories below, and more, will added next week. 👇🏻
A few fics that stood out in particular that I read this week were:
Mystery Strain - @rebel-held I really enjoyed this alternative take on a sex pollen troupe from Rebel's Kinktober prompts, and may now also have a thing for Dieter's big, soft belly after reading this. 🤭
For You I Would Ruin Myself - @thelightsandtheroses Sticking with Dieter, this was a great emotionally charged story, and I love how Dieter was written in this. As much as I love reading smut (who doesn't?), I also really love stories where you are pulled into the inner workings of a character's emotions and thoughts, and sex isn't the main plot point, and this story really impressed me by doing that. Deffo recommend. 👍🏻
Behind Closed Doors - @sweetenerobert Where do I even start?! This was just utterly delicious and debauched. I had so much vivid imagery in my head reading this that a cold shower was needed afterwards, let me tell you. This was such a super hot read and I am so here for it! 🥵
Private & Confidential - @sin-djarin Becca has created the start of something truly wonderful here, I just know it. My Agent Pike senses are tingling to see where this story goes. You should totally check it out too. 🖤
50 - @linzels-blog This was a fic I really enjoyed this week, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for non-age gap fics specifically. It was utterly wonderful and features our favourite pilot, Frankie. 😍
In Another Life - @chronically-ghosted This beautiful Frankie story moved me. The way Taylor writes moves me. I am still thinking about this story and will read it over again. I urge you too also. You're really missing out on something utterly spectacular if you don't. 🖤
I Might Kill My Ex - @beskarandblasters This was such a fun, twisted little tale inspired by the song by Sza, about Joel, and I loved every second of this. It was super hot, and I really liked all the twisty turns this took me through. Deffo a must read. 🏻
☆ What have I been watching/listening to this week?
🎃 As it's spooky season, I watched a couple of horror films this week.
I rewatched Evil Dead Rise. I am a lover of the original films with Bruce 'The Chin' Campbell, but the remakes are quite good, particularly this one, I thought. I'm partial to a good horror film and it's been a while since I watched one that made me cringe and recoil at the gore. (The cheese grater scene, if you know, you know! 😬🫣)
Also rewatched both Scream and 30 Days Of Night this week too. Classics, IMO. 👍🏻
I'm looking forward to watching Talk To Me when that comes out on streaming too. The trailer looked fab.
Earworms of the week:
I just love Ronnie Radke's version of this Papa Roach original! I imagine it playing to the backdrop of an epic sex scene in a movie or something...
☆ What have I been up to this week?
Aside from the usual humdrum of work, I went on another short hike yesterday. Always good to get out and stretch the ol' legs.
A very good friend of mine cooked me a wonderful meal this week too when I visited them for a catch up. If you feed me, you can guarantee I will absolutely be your friend forever. 😀
As always, thanks to all those who have DM'd and sent Asks. It's so much fun getting to know you all! 🖤
Well, that was pretty much this week all whipped up in a nutshell! I hope you've all had a great week and are enjoying yourself this weekend too.🤘🏻
Stay kind & stay creamy 🖤

I’ve been defending TotK a lot so here are some criticisms of it to balance things out a bit more:
1) The timeline of the ancient past is way too confusing. When did the other Zonai come down from the sky? When did Rauru and Mineru come down? When did Rauru and Sonia build the shrines if they were made to suppress monsters but monsters weren’t conjured by Ganondorf until after Sonia was on death’s door? When did they have the time? When did Mineru have time to build the ruins in Faron? Did she build them all or just edit ones that other Zonai already built? Did Sonia and Rauru have a kid before they died? If not, how does Zelda even exist?
2) The Gerudo’s clothes are still too sexualizing and orientalist (high heels that would sink into the sand and skimpy “harem” outfits even though in the desert you generally want to cover your skin as much as possible with light breathable clothes so you don’t get sunburn or sweat yourself to death.)
3) Why the heck does Riju have a British accent? Not knocking her VA’s performance, but Urbosa and the other Gerudo don’t have accents and if they did they probably wouldn’t be British.
4) The “mystery” of Zelda being suspicious was way too easy to figure out and it was frustrating waiting for the NPCs to catch up through four whole dungeons. I know it was because they wanted you to be able to go to them in any order, but that threw off the buildup to the reveal. It would have been better to just have a fixed order to the dungeons.
5) I liked rebuilding Lurelin with Bolson EXCEPT for the focus on attracting tourism because to my understanding the tourism industry is actually terrible for most places where people live and has been very damaging to colonized Polynesians for example.
6) Sometimes the building mechanic just felt like an extra, unnecessary chore or obstacle to completing a task. Like, instead of solving a problem creatively you were just sort of going through the extremely obvious motions.
So… yeah. Not a perfect game at all. Overall good, overall better than past games in terms of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, but Nintendo definitely still has some work to do too.

How do you feel about tana moon
ive made a long post about it before so I'll just be brief here but I usually have two main thoughts: one being that it's awesome to have a Polynesian character be in the spotlight but a shame that she must be exoticized/sexualized by the cishet white writers thus being put into a role thats uncomfortable for everyone involved, and two being that it's sort of tragic to think about how she was one of the first people to show kindness and compassion to kon and he genuinely thought of her as important to his life but also, cannot ignore the weirdness of her being an adult and comparing herself to a mom and calling him immature as if he isnt a kid and then dating him like okayyy. if she were to be included as a positive influence there were many other ways to do it that didn't have to include romantic relationships and unfortunately its not the only case of this in comics or media. and being a product of its time its definitely not written to be treated as problematic so its kind of just something you have to ignore or explore what possibilities it presents to the narrative (which upon exploration happens to line up with kon's general relationship w adults and the narrative that evolves from that outside of the writer's initial intent)
tldr, could have gone a more intentionally positive or negative route but regardless was a wasted opportunity of a character imo

ohh wht are ur hcs on the tenmikoangies .. (either th pairing Itself or individuals i Do Not Mind :3)
Tenko
- she’s very very feminine and loves girly things and people forget that!!! She loves ruffles and painting her nails and doing her hair and she’s a very big feminist. Girl
- I’m a much bigger fan of the original Japanese “horrible boys” catchphrase instead of the terfy “degenerate male” we get in the translation. Speaking of which people joke about Tenko being a terf which I absolutely hate. She would not be a terf. She would welcome anyone who wanted to become a girl!!! Being a trans woman is amazing and awesome!! I think I’m a modern/hpa/nondespair au she would follow a lot of transfem creators like Dylan Mulvaney and Kim Petras, and she would LOVE chihiro. If Angie and Himiko didn’t stop her she would be out protesting for LGBT rights in front of the Japanese parliament every day.
- Although I do think she has some internal biases about transmascs because “why would you not want to be a girl and be a horrible boy?” But she’s working on it and trying to understand. She’s unlearning a lot of harmful biases her old master instilled in her- she doesn’t have a hateful bone in her body and loves her friends no matter what!
- I think she loves having long hair, but it definitely gets in the way doing martial arts, so she does a lot of elaborate and pretty braids and hairstyles with cute accessories like bandannas and scrunchies! She likes doing Himiko and Angie’s hair when she can too- she especially loves Angie’s curls.
Himiko
- Himiko loves close up magic we all know this, but I think she would also really love stuff like tarot, crystals and palm reading. She’s autistic and magic of all kinds is her special interest!
- she loves big cozy cardigans (cloaks) and fabrics with celestial patterns… I think she would be a fan of the olden town lmao
- in the nondespair au she has a black cat and a tabby cat named Midnight and Tiger
- she loves collecting shiny little trinkets, her room is cluttered but not in a messy way… it’s like howl’s bedroom
Angie
- fuck danganronpa canon I’m the boss now. Angie has curly hair I think. She’s so much more than the “crazy island girl” stereotype… augh
- she loves to go thrifting and go shopping at craft stores! You have to be careful with her because she can and will spend all of her money in one trip.
- she likes to cook! She makes traditional Polynesian food for her gfs!! Food is just another form of art after all!
- she doesn’t have a lot of issues with nudity because her culture she was raised in is just different, and while Japan has some non Eurocentric standards as well with communal bathing in hot springs and such, she can be a bit out there. Like she tends to walk around without shirts on at the house and if someone comes over she doesn’t think to cover up, she doesn’t wear bras, if she’s hot the clothes are coming off, etc. nudity isn’t sexual to her and that is okay!
- I need to do more research on different Polynesian cultures and decide which specific indigenous group she is, but I think it would be cool if she had traditional tattoos? It would mean she wouldn’t be able to use most public baths in Japan, but her culture is more important to her.

weighing in on the "should you interact with anti izzy posts or not" because i love to talk to myself:
i don't think it's a black and white thing tbh. more than anything, i think people should seriously examine their motivations for responding to hateful posts in that at times it can be a bit self harming. especially if you find yourself seeking out conflict, or are spending more time in fandom responding to negativity rather than doing things that make you happy.
one thing i think izzy fans do well is maintain a balance of ensuring their fandom experience is predominantly focused on things that spark joy. which happens to mostly be sexualizing that old man. for a lot of izzy stans, if you scroll through their twitter/tumblr, it'll be more about liking him as a character than generic izcourse. when it comes to izzy discourse, it kinda has flashes across izzy side of fandom where people respond in short bursts before largely just moving on. can't say the same about izzy haters.
when it comes to responding to things, i largely think there's not a point in direct interaction, however, i wouldn't say it's completely without merit. sometimes i'll respond to long "meta" in the izzy tag literally just because if i have to see your bullshit take then you have to deal with mine as well. that's the tradeoff for being obnoxious in the izzy tag.
i think there can be value in correcting misinformation or refusing to allow the narrative to be controlled completely by izzy haters. "here's why izzy is racist" is annoying and i don't think the main people perpetuating this will ever admit they're wrong. Still, at the same time a lot of these posts are full of misinformation. this misinfo gets parroted throughout fandom and that's bad. "donkey is a slur against polynesians" is a good example. it's not. that was made up on tumblr. every polynesian person i've ever seen comment on this has all said that they have never encountered this as a slur irl. find me a single source outside of tumblr that says "donkey is a slur against polynesians" for fucking real.
the issue with this though is what constitutes as harassment. disagreement doesn't equate to harassment. responding to someone's meta isn't harassment. izzy haters purposefully position disagreement against them as harassment and instances of bigoted behavior. i remember someone once listing an example of how izzy stans are racist as "made fun of a post about how izzy is homophobic." the poster was white. the person who made fun of it was me, a black fan. this isn't racism. at most this is me being a bitch.
i don't think that necessarily means that you should never interact, disagree, vague, or screencap random bullshit. i do think you need to be intentional as well as firm. it will only harm you more if you concede to allowing people to describe your actions as abusive when you know for a fact that they are not. words like harassment, racism, homophobia, stalking, abuse, etc all have meaning. they have definitions and while there can be gray areas when it comes to certain things, the limitations for what constitutes as abusive does not change just because you've arbitrarily decided that you are the good guy in this interaction.
overall, i think there can be times when having conversation, even ones of disagreement, has value. i don't think everybody with a shitty opinion is a malicious actor who needs to be discarded immediately. that said, there are groups in fandom who have demonstrated time and time again to have zero ability to self reflect and are overall narcissistic, self obsessed, navel gazing folks deadset on defending their ignorance to the death. there isn't any use in direct engagement. all it does is feed a perpetual victim mentality and gives them the attention they so desperately crave.
also? while we're here? keep receipts. i'm not even joking. screencap shit when you do have a direct confrontation. if you criticize someone's meta make sure you have their exact words. when someone insults you keep that on hand. people straight up lie on here and when they do shit like say "izzy bought ed as a slave" or "you can go send izzy stans hate for all i care" or "i'm not being passive aggressive, i'm being aggressive" hold them to that. if not for any other reason other than the fact that it's kinda funny watching them lie on their mother that they never actually said this and clearly this was a misinterpretation that only occurred because they are 12 years old and super sleepy when they wrote this and didn't actually mean it like that :((

Dinornis better known as the Giant Moa is an extinct genus of birds belonging to the moa family of the suborder order Dinornithiformes, a group of large flightless birds which lived on the islands of New Zealand some 2 million to 500 years ago. There are 2 currently recognized species the North Island giant moa (Dinornis novaezealandiae) and the South Island giant moa (Dinornis robustus). These diurnal avians tended to be found in the lowlands of there island homes inhabiting Shrublands, Grasslands, Coastlands, and Forests where they occupied the niche of large terrestrial browsing herbivore similar to certain antelope, bovines, cervids, and giraffes of today, feeding upon Twigs, seeds, berries, leaves, flowers, fungi, vines, herbs, and shrubs. In life giant moas displayed a large reversed sexual dimorphism whereby the females were up to twice the size of males. With males reaching around 5 to 6.5ft (1.52 to 1.98m) in height and 120 to 195 (55 to 88kg) in weight, and females reaching roughly 10 to 12.5ft (3.05 to 3.81m) in height and 170 to 550lbs (78 to 250kgs) in weight these birds where amongst the largest to ever exist, with the North Island Giant Moa currently holding the record of the tallest bird ever and the South Island Giant Moa being the second tallest. However both are beaten in terms of weight by there fellow recently extinct ratite the elephant bird. Dinornis had long slim, elongated bones compared to other moa species, Maori historical accounts describe the animals as tall, two legged, tailess, wingless giants with slender necks. Brown, slightly streaked, downy, wool like feathers covered all of there bodies sans there heads, feet, and part of the neck. It is believed that the settlement of New Zealand by the Maori directly lead to the Moas extinction, as they were extensively hunted for there meat and feathers. Whats possibly more devastating was the introduction of Polynesian rats and dogs which likely destroyed moa nests and killed moa chicks faster than these large birds could mature and reproduce. The last of the giant moa likely died out around 1500 C.E. with the last species of smaller Moa the Upland Moa possibly holding out until the 1800s.

I've seen quite a few people headcanon Dragona as māhū (that being a third gender within Polynesian culture literally translating to "in the middle") and it would not shock me at all if Araki was going down that route with them!!! It's so nest seeing a character who appears to be more fluid with their gender and araki as a mangaka has definitely been quite progressive with regards to expressions of open sexuality/gender expression so pretty excited to see where Dragona is taken as a character 👀
i totally agree!!
ngl at first i was kind of upset with the way dragona was treated in the manga! it just seemed like a classic anime transphobia... but honestly now i also want to know how dragona will present later in manga :]
the thing that i know for sure is that i ADORE dragona and they are my world. best part 9 character fr fr
