Productivity Challenge: 1/100

Not much to actually go off today to be honest, since it is the first day of the winter semester, but I did get everything ready for that.

I'm doing two classes over the winter semester, which honestly I will probably end up regretting.

My first class, which is the one I'm less excited about but is the one that is most related to my course is social enterprise. I'm honestly not entirely sure what this course will end up involving, but from what I've read about it so far it's a community-based group project type thing which I'm not overly keen for. I hope it ends up being good but who knows.

My second class, which I'm far more interested in is Law Reform and Social Change. This is much more linked to the law part of the degree I'm doing and is a second-year course, which because I'm doing it now means I'm able to start a third-year course semester one next year which I hope will cut down some time from my overall study. I'm slightly worried it will be difficult since I'm doing firm law and contract law next semester so I'm not sure how that will affect this. If it gets to be too much I'm gonna drop this unit and pick it up along with a social economics class over the Christmas summer semester since I'll have far more time then.

For now, I have my books in order, my assignment due dates planned out, and everything sorted for the first lecture of each to be posted tomorrow! Wish me luck everyone!

I went to school today. Today was a tiring and long but productive day over all. My one subject have so many classes that it would become boring but thanks to my subject teacher who is jolly and loves cracking jokes when we start getting bored. And my school has founded a new way of improving our english comprehension which is nice imo but lots of student is not serious about this (class). And as always I was quiet with others but loud with my best friend. I did my part of self study at home too but only one subject which i am not satisfied with but I tried my best.

Things I did:

Political science: Making notes of the topic- challenges to nation building.

Political science: Took the revision quiz of the above mentioned topic.

Song of the day: kiss me thru the phone by CLUB BOYBND.

I definitely see your point about the pro-xenophobia messaging, though I've always liked about Needletail's character how she knew the Kin were violent and romanticized a more violent life to give her purpose as opposed to being just a poor deceived innocent.

And I've personally never minded the inconsistent ideology because sometimes people (particularly very young people) can be inconsistent like that, shifting their ideology to oppose the status quo on every front even if it doesn't internally make sense. I don't think one incident of showing the rebellious faction like that would erase your planned many arcs of showing xenophobia as bad and those who fight against it as good.

It's less that I mind the idea of the ShadowClan apprentices not having a strong ideological framework (especially as young people, it's perfectly consistent they're still working out what exactly fits into their moral system) it's more that they don't seem to have... anything at all.

Radicalization, politics

Every time the cats lose their moral center in the books, every time, they go from "Having Society" to "THROW OLD PEOPLE INTO THE WOODS, EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF, MURDER IS OK!"

You still need to start with some sort of value to exploit at all when you're talking about radicalization. Fascists specifically are notorious for having a GIANT list of internal contradictions ("The enemy is both strong and weak" is even named in Umberto Eco's 14 points of Fascism), but to have a contradiction in those beliefs, multiple things must be believed.

(will the kin be specifically fascist though, like Tigerstar? ...I'm leaning towards no, I'm thinking of modeling more general cults/communes specifically. I'm still in the early stages though.)

Besides, I don't want to throw my hands up and be like, "All my other reduxed arcs are thematically good, so it's ok if this one is bad!" (or, thematically consistent vs this one being a contradiction, but I'm being hyperbolic to make a point, you get me?)

So, back to the apprentices,

The apprentices need to believe something. They need to have actual grievances, even if they aren't wise enough to articulate them, even if they aren't correct, even if they buy the wrong solution... I would like there to be some truth to their initial grievances.

(especially tragic, then, for them to follow the wrong solution through Darktail. For Berryheart, arcs later, to think that her initial concerns were wrong because she was deceived. A sort of self-blame, because if you can change yourself, it gives you control over what happened to you.)

There's usually some source of real instability in situations like this. IRL it's typically economic problems, and then social problems are sold as 'causes' and they're brought to the wrong solution. In the arcs I've crafted so far, Clan Culture itself is the biggest source of conflict. It follows, and is consistent, to continue that.

So I'm looking for something that can draw in ex-Dark Forest trainees that feel othered, young apprentices sick of the clans not working together, people with real problems, which Darktail manipulates into, ironically, the very kinds of senselessly violent types they initially hated.

Needlepaw and Sleekwhisker

I actually do like how rough Needletail is in-canon and I do want to keep it. Though with Sleekwhisker specifically, something in canon REALLY bugs me.

In that first book of AVoS, do you remember how Alderpaw meets Sleekpaw and he's like... bothered by Sleekpaw's "Open Disrespect" where she's saying stereotyping is not good? "Omg she's just saying that you shouldn't judge someone based on where they were born... where is her mentor..." maybe it's petty but WOW that bugs me. Alderheart, your grandpaw was Fireheart, why is this such a radical statement to you?

I think that SHOULD be a radical statement by the standards of the culture, but of all cats, the one who's deeply self-conscious of himself, who is descended from THE kittypet and also is Tigerkin... Alderheart should be thinking, "This is comforting but I'm worried she'll get in trouble"

Sleekwhisker I would really like to make into someone who was a bright beacon at the beginning of the arc, and by the end, is unrecognizable, and beyond saving. I care her.

So that was a lot of waffling without a central point, so, I think the best way to sum everything up is... the inconsistency bothers me. So I want to make it different.

#As a side note I don't want to GET INTO there is one big problem with adapting fascism for warrior cats #and it's that fascism and capitalism are related and often accomplices #and there is no capitalism in the battle cat society #And the social groups themselves aren't even big enough for the scale that true fascism and capitalism exist at #So I'm missing a huuuuuge dimension in the allegory #BUT with all fiction eventually the metaphor breaks down. There's only so far you can go with abstraction #Like the book Animal Farm. yess he did! the way their society has developed it, aesthetic changes can be performed like how we do normal surgery, just much more advanced, or genetically, but that typically has certain limitations (easier to change certain aspects of already existing traits than create entirely new ones). joseph's aesthetic alterations were surgical, so his body was manually remade where necessary to enable the construction of wings that also function (aka he can move them and they're an extension of his body with nerves and shit rather than just something taped on.) we imagine he'd probably need some sort of additional help when it comes to growth though because his body can't do that by itself. aka expensive both initially and for upkeep oughh 🤕 meanwhile five has an aesthetic alteration in his hair that's more genetic, so he wasn't born with hair like that or had anyone in his family which would allow hair like that, but since his actual genes have been altered his hair now naturally grows white/black and it can be passed on to any kids he might have. if joseph did gain wings through more natural means so that any genetic traits he had prior would determine color, he could also choose to have those traits altered so that his wings would look different.

he specifically chose his wings to appear the way they do because of the connection to a highly respected group revolving around justice that considers themselves modern day knights, whose members all take care to resemble green dragons. it's both formal and informal i.e. there's an actual organization of proper members who are fully connected to each other, and people who aren't a part of the actual org but subscribe to their beliefs and align with them both in appearance and behavior. other aesthetic changes come with certain associations by result of people being people, so while it's entirely possible and fine to just want the green dragon vibe while not caring for the org, people will still assume you're associated. stuff like that would probably manifest in a lot of different ways, like people assuming you're a fan of a celebrity because you have a similar added trait that a celebrity has, or thinking you're annoying because you have pink hair and everyone who gets pink hair is annoying duhh, etc etc. but in this case it's an association joseph wants, even though some people might see it as a bad thing.

and they do not 😇 he'd probably go crazy if they tried babyproofing it and would just remove it. tbh he'd probably accidentally hurt other people more than he would hurt himself... kind of just one of those things he has to be aware of so he probably knows how to watch where his claws are atp.

Today I was studying with a few people from my course at Albano, the new campus of Stockholm University. They still use the old campus, they just have several. I was super confused trying to find my way to where my friends were sitting but I managed in the end 😅 The place we were sitting was an area where talking is allowed and they were being very chatty… I don’t think I could study with them very often because I wouldn’t get anything done 😂🙃 Still, it was nice to hang out with them and feel like we have a bit of a community thing going on.

I dont know why but i can't seem to complete more than two tasks which is really bad for me in the long run.. but textbook reading takes away all my motivation to study more.. i have to do more and better.. i have to do what I can and i am being so inconsistent in my studies.. i am having lack of motivation.. i have to leave all my tasks for tmr. I have to do something about it. I can't go on like this. I have to make a time table to make more time to complete other study related tasks.. i will invest some time to make a time table and be back with more motivation. Consistency in studies is really important as I am having exams coming up soon.
