So what do the gym leaders do in their free time?

Milo is really busy outside of being a gym leader so he doesn't really have a lot of time for hobbys. However every now and again he still finds the time to sit down and do some whittleing.

Nessa is into arts and crafts. Her windowsills are decorated with polymer clay figurines of pokemon. She started to get Sonia into it as well.

Kabu is a trainer for childrens/teen football teams. He used to play himself, but by now he's mostly dedicated himself to passing on his interest and passion for the sport to the younger generation.

Allister likes to explore abandoned buildings and graveyards. In the beginning he just wanted to get away from people for a bit, but then he discovered his interest in ghost type pokemon that lived in the places he explored.

Bea is into martial arts, obviously. It started in school where she joined the judo extracurricular.

Opal is a theater actress and has been since she was fifteen. She's involved in the culture council of Galar.

Melony used to do gymnastics when she was younger and even won some trophies. Today she's mostly busy with parenting but occasionally she still finds the time to train.

Gordie inherited his mother's passion for gymnastics and is fairly successful at it. He regularly takes part in tournaments and is always ready to demonstrate his abilities to anyone who dares to question him.

Piers and Marnie mostly spend their time raising hell and causing mayhem. When Piers isn't doing that, he and Team Yell fix up the city. Keeping it clean, fixing things, etc.

Raihan is into LARPing. He owns several swords of various types as well as chainmail and leather armor. Because this my HC he's also really into power metal.

(I don't count the influencing as things they do in their free time because a) it generates revenue and b) it can be seen as part of their job, as with real world celebrities)

What is with these newer generations and having easily some of my favorite gym leaders?

First in Galar, we’ve got icons like Allister, Melony, Nessa and Opal. Then over in Paldea, we’ve got Kofu the jovial, spirited pirate guy; Katy the sweet chef lady; Brassius the scruffy-looking yet dedicated ~artisté~ who made my day with his Sunflora test (I love Sunflora it’s so cUTE HHHHH- 💝💖); Ryme (I did NOT except our Ghost-type gym leader to be a rapper in a small candle-lit town atop a snowy mountain who has a full scene where she rap battles someone but I am HERE FOR IT); and Iono the perky streamer gal whose design still kinda intimidates me - like, during her debut trailer, she was SHOVING her face into the camera to show off her bright magenta eyes and, uh… shark teeth, and she’s got that MASSIVE poncho w/ the sleeve tags that look like they could do some damage if you happened to be in her way while she’s doing a twirl, and those huge freaking Magnemite hair clips - oh, and also Larry, who’s comically unenthusiastic, and who I was pleasantly surprised to find out was part of the Elite Four.

Oh, speaking of the Elite Four, I LOVE THEM TOO HHHHH- I like that you meet them a few times on the Victory Road path, and get to know them a little before battling them. Rika’s really cool, Poppy I was NOT expecting, and I am thoroughly impressed by her existence, and Hassel- he’s this steely, stoic, professional dragon man with fire in his eyes… who bursts into big, blubbery tears when you defeat him because of how proud he is of how far you’ve come - which I find simultaneously a bit funny and like… genuinely heartwarming and wholesome.

She's an elderly trans woman with a history as a drag performer. She likes being something of a mentor figure to feisty queer youth like Bede and Piers (this image implies have a more positive relationship than how their Star Tournament dialogue comes off) who don't really have any positive parental figures in their lives because they remind her of how she was when she was thier age.

Random SwSh Headcanons that have been living rent free in my brain 🫧

Nessa loves K-Pop (or the in-universe equivillent?) and has a YouTube channel where she posts dance covers and unpopular opinions. She wants to compete on a survival show someday, but is worried she's getting too old.

Kabu taught Gordie the art of rock gardening. He has his own little rock garden at home and is now considering replacing his yard with rocks.

Oleana and Rose have a relationship similar to Gabriel and Nathalie from Miraculous Ladybug.

Bede is a doll collector. He has secret social media accounts where he posts his collections, general opinions about dolls and fight with other users. His favorite dolls are Pullip and Bratz. Opal found his accounts because he ended up arguing with her online at one point!

Speaking if Opal, she was into lolita fashion in her younger days. Her favorite styles were EGL and sweet. She's since left the fashion and donated almost all of her coordinates. She did keep a couple of her favorites and hopes to pass them onto Bede.

Melony thought that random dudes calling her "mommy" meant that they saw her as a mother figure and thought it was really sweet. She did an interview and called herself "Galar's Mommy". After that, Gordie had to sit her down explain what the whole mommy thing really meant. She cried.

Milo's family works with a Pokemon Therapy program and they invite children who are struggling with anxiety to come to their farm and play with the Wooloo.

Leon once dressed up as Santa and flew his Charizard to an orphanage and left gifts dor all the children.

Piers and Marnie LOVE musicals. Marnie was cast as Little Red in a local production of Into the Woods and Piers was (obviously) a theater kid growing up. His favorite role he played was Scar in "Th Lion King".

Allister is an urban explorer. He's captured most of his Pokemon in abandoned buildings. Outside of the graveyard, his favorite place to hang out is an abandoned theme park.
