-To anyone who was wondering about Víli Heptifilissøn in my fic, i pulled a Tolkien and stole it from the Poetic Edda. Heptifili was the name of a dwarf in the ancient scandinavian texts, and since it had ‘fili’ in it, it made sense that that would be the name of Fili and Kili’s grandpa. 

-Fun fact: 

‘Fili’ means ‘Filer’ or ‘The one who Files’. If you want to cry, you can think about how Azog’s label was the ‘Defiler’. 

‘Heptifili’ means ‘Filer Holder’ or ‘File with Handle’. (It’s pronounced Hep-tea-fili, and for the -ssøn part in the fic, it sounds like son. No big difference.)

‘Kili’ means ‘Wedge’.

-As for the ‘-ssøn’ part, that’s a norse way to say ‘son’. Since Tolkien took all the dwarf names from the Poetic Edda and intended for the dwarves to be like the ones we hear of in Icelandic mythology, i decided their last names would make sense if they followed the Viking way. Common way to do last names, and you could choose whether you wanted your last name to be after your mother or father. For girls, you would add “-dottír’. 

Ex. Clara (my oc) is the daughter of Dwalin and Mirabelle, so she could spell her last name two ways:

Clara Dwalindottír

or

Clara Mirabelledottír
