As a child I felt
The moon chased me
The subtle light falling
On every step I take
he never failed a chance to disappoint
This small fragile heart
It's the comfort I found in him
That I failed to find in most people
That surrounded me
He healed the deepest scars
Made by the ones who betrayed
Brought back the happiness
That was once taken away
A feeling of freedom under the night sky
The moon made me feel alive again

i was writing poems every night
gave them to him in cozy light
and he thanked me with the biggest diss
"Do I really have to read all of this?"

Sunset/s
I have been told, 'It is always the little things that matter'.
I have read through novels and essays claiming so.
But as it's said that things are evident once you live through them,
it wasn't until this evening did I realize the essence, of the aforementioned saying.
When I closely witnessed the nature perform her art -- an act of love subtly pure:
the sun would kiss her goodbye for the day, like he always did.
But he would make sure he sweeps her off of her feet.
And she'd care to blush, in all the likely hues of gold and red -- the sky,
like the very first time he brushed her soul.
And we might miss the sundowns, but them.
Because how could the night fall without a sunset?
Today I couldn't agree more on this:
it is in the little things, it is all that matters!

I wrote a chapbook and it got published!! I kept this on the down low for a while as final details were sorted out but it’s available today 🥳 Take a peek at the cover art and one of the poems included below!
I’ve been writing for years now (If you didn’t know, now you know) and to finally have an actual collection put together and published has been a dream of mine forever. Working with @bottlecap-press has been a super smooth process and I’m so excited to have contributed to this indie press.
I hope when I say this it is true, but "On the Diagonal" is only my humble beginning. It would be extremely supportive of you, whoever is reading this, to pick up a copy of my first solo published work. It would truly mean a lot to me. The link to purchase is here: https://bottlecap.press/products/diagonal
Most of the poems in this collection were written in 2020, a few even earlier than that and a few from this year. I think the different time periods demonstrate a deeper level to the growth I’ve gone through as a writer, as my voice and poetic style has changed quite a lot over the course of my life.
A chapbook is a micro collection of poetry, and I used that format to take a focused look at a period of my past. I think we all experience a heartbreak that changes us forever. "On the Diagonal" aims to put that metamorphosis into words that add another layer of beauty to the transformations we all go through.

The Emancipation (I Get From Love) of Angie (12/30)
On this very day, nineteen years ago
The artist of my life, Mariah Carey
released what many consider her comeback album
The Emancipation of Mimi
on the very same day my best friend and twin flame, Angela Giaimo
became emancipated from childhood.
I have never been very spiritual.
I'm not Ace of Base; I struggle to see the signs.
And I'm unsure what I believe about this universe
but here are some things I know coincide:
Mariah Carey and Angela Giaimo are both Aries.
Neither Mariah Carey nor Angela Giaimo have middle names.
Mariah became my favorite artist primarily because of lyrics
and Angela and I first bonded over us both being lyrics girlies.
Like Mariah, Angela is an amazing writer and musically inclined.
I tried to get my ex-best friend that I nicknamed "MiMi" to use
The Emancipation of Mimi as the theme for her 18th birthday,
just two months after Angela's 18th.
That same ex-best friend betrayed Angela,
and her treachery brought Angela and I closer
because I was on her side, the correct side.
I never knew Mariah's album came out on Angela's birthday until today,
the number of years later that is the same as my favorite number.
When it comes to Angela,
It has never been a question that our connection is inherent.
I would not scoff at the concept of it being ancestral and supernatural.
And while I have no mystical gifts that will tell me she is pregnant
the way her brujería informed her of Saviour's impending arrival,
I can sense that it's by more than chance that she's tattooed on my spirit.
And why I love Angela Giaimo with my whole soul,
even more than I love Mariah Carey.

Habits
Rip to all those
Who has been buried
Somewhere deep in my heart
Where I can't find them
Now I am on a hunt
To find someone new
Who break me completely
So I can dig a new grave

The #vss365#poem for today "#Lantern" has led me down several creative paths. This is the video version. It may be better viewed on #YouTube but will attempt to see if it works well here too.

As I transition into adulthood, I realize that age is not the sole factor shaping my destiny. Rather, it is a continuous exploration of the path that Allah has decreed for me. Every moment, every decision, and every challenge I encounter is a part of His divine plan. There is no roadmap or guidebook to follow, for the ultimate guide is my unwavering faith.
In embracing the uncertainties of adulthood, I am reminded of the beautiful verse from the Quran, "But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners" (Quran 8:30). I find comfort in the understanding that my destiny is intricately woven into the divine plan, and I am but a humble servant, walking the path that Allah has chosen for me. This is my faith, my surrender, and my unwavering trust in the journey that Allah has destined for my soul.
