I'm non-binary and transmasc, and I like a more androgynous DA style, but I'm really struggling with pants. I'm almost plus size, and I feel like high waisted pants make me look like you stuck a belt on a potato when I wear them. Do you have any tips?

Anon I am so sorry about the lateness of this response, forgive me, I beg.

Now, on to your question. Whenever I recommend high waisted pants for the Dark Academia aesthetic I try to add the caveat that, for trans masc people, I don't recommend them (at least not usually). High waisted pant accentuate the hips, which generally makes someone look more "feminine", so especially for those trying to pass I do not recommend.

For a more masculine look, here is what I would recommend:

Lower rise trousers

Untucked tops (this really helps with the masculine look, because your body is less defined)

Long coats

Untucked collared shirts under sweaters (so the hem peeks out)

Lots of layers!

The general idea is to not have super form fitting pieces, stick with thick or flowy fabrics or layers. Experiment with different shapes and fabrics, get a feel for what looks best on you. Also, note that this is what I'm recommending because you are trans masc, not because you are plus sized. If you were trying to look more feminine, I would still mostly recommend high waisted things, but just say that looser bottoms would probably both look and feel better than tighter ones. To illustrate, here is the same outfit on a plus sized model, one with the shirt tucked in, and one with it not. The tucked in look makes the model look more feminine, despite it being the same outfit.

Lots of changes going into the new year! I’ve retired my curiousfancy Instagram account and I’m moving away from content creation on a schedule, monetisation, and all the stress that involves.
