I'd like to specify a request for good Thai shows that just finished. They're my favorite for many reasons, and I also enjoy getting to learn more Thai words.

Good 2023 Thai BL That Recently Finished (to Binge!)

(I actually held off answering this one until a few had ended this week because I didn't have many for 2023. It's not been great year for Thai BL so far IMHO. Now South Korea is KILLING it. So is Japan.. in a different way.)

My School President

9/10

GMMTV gave us a classic high school set Thai BL with tropes like messy boys singing their feelings that made this one Love Sick for the modern age with all the gentle sweetness and pining ache, but none of the dated damaging tropes or issues.

Yes, we’ve seen it all before, but I still ADORED this. And there is a lot to be said for the classics being re-executed perfectly. Who let my BL be this wholesome and funny? This show was fantastic, it’s only flaw was the singing (and that’s my baggage).

Step By Step

This was Thailand’s answer to The New Employee, and everything I loved about that show I loved about this one.

This was an office romance between stern boss and sweet subordinate that felt more authentic to an office environment than previous Thai BLs of this ilk. And that authenticity added tension to the narrative and character development (how novel). Now that might be because it has western source material, or it might be because it is actually kind of old-fashioned (it’s been years since I worked as an office grunt). I also really enjoyed the brothers’ relationship, and kinda wished they hadn’t attempted (and failed) to give said brother his own side BL.

La Pluie

This BL takes to task the fated mates trope and what it means to have love chained intimately to predestination. It’s about how faith in destiny before choice diminishes the authenticity of emotion, relationships, and connection. This is a high concept to examine through the lens of a BL.

By activating + examining the soulmates trope this show is challenging a foundation of romance: the idea that there is one person meant to be your one romantic partner all your life. This means that we, as viewers, spend much of the show worried about it having a happy ending, and that’s the source of both its brilliance and tension: would the narrative have the strength to truly challenge its own romantic core?

But, ultimately, all this elevated complexity was executed in a somewhat shaky manner with the narrative derailing into some serious pacing issues and characters manipulated by miscommunication. However, with good chemistry and decent acting all around, plus some excellent high heat and representation of consent and a few other rare tropes, this one has to (like it’s sibling show My Ride) earn a 9/10.

Make a Wish

PNR (from Sammon: Manner of Death & Triage) about a doctor who can see the dead and strikes a bargain with a wish-granting irreverent tree angel - naturally they fall in love.

Stars Fluke Natouch opposite not-Ohm, but who cares bc Fluke has chemistry with everybody. Once again the Thai afterlife is incredibly bureaucratic but I enjoyed the premise and the unfolding of the story (it’s not predictable but still satisfying and with nice little twist). I like that the doctor is just gay af and has a fag hag bestie and everything.

The cast is excellent but the comedic stylings are too overblown and tonally off. It had sad parts and did make me cry but is ultimately happy with a great sex scene, good smiley kisses, and all the agency. (grey)

Moonlight Chicken

8/10

I enjoyed this complicated little show, even though it’s spectacularly messy gay with lots of shrapnel and authentic pain.

I thought EarthMix turned in their most compelling performance to date. But it was GeminiFourth who stole my heart.

That said, the most interesting central relationship was that of Jim & Li Ming, their father-son angst mixed with evident affection made me tear up.

This was more slice of life than it was BL, but it ended happily so I’m not mad at it. (YouTube)

Never Let Me Go

8/10

Bodyguard romance where poor boy must watch over rich boy for family obligation reasons. Simple premise well executed with a few bumps that made it feel like it was trying to tackle too much (when it wasn’t).

Still, an enjoyable show that benefited from being handed to PondPhuwin who did a stellar job with their roles and chemistry. Is it going into permanent rewatch rotation? No, but a solid GMMTV offering. Of GMMTV passing out new series to established pairs this has been the most successful IMHO. PondPhuwin were about 10000x better in this than FUTS (and that's FUTS's fault, not theirs).

It's typically Thai in that its a bit bloated and has a confusing plot, but at least it HAD a plot and the central relationship is solid and loyal. Their Our Skyy 2 follow up is great. And very much adds to the cannon in a fun way rather than feeling superfluous - making this show ultimately 14 eps rather than the usual 12. (YouTube)

Destiny Seeker

8/10

A darn near perfect pulp featuring 3 likable grumpy/sunshine pairings with uncomplicated iterations of enemies to lovers. At least one half of each does a decent amount of pining and there’s good chemistry, classic tropes, and communication rep. It’s fun and full of linguistic jokes.

Sublimely cheesy but a good rainy day offering with tons of rewatch potential. (WeTV)

Bed Friend

8/10 (Triggers include: child abuse, attempted rape, family abuse)

Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship that is built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly longing eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged (ALL THE TRIGGERS).

NetJames give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth, unfortunately the story ultimately failed them. Had the show had the strength of its convictions and kept to a tighter, darker, harsher 8 eps it would have been the first high heat to earn a 10/10 from me, but once they fussed with it, it dropped to a solid 8/10.

Could have been great but was overworked. Still if high heat is your thing, this one will not let you down. (YouTube)

Between Us

Featuring the hugely popular side characters from 2019′s Until We Meet Again, Win Team (played by Studio Wabi Sabi's most popular, and commercially viable, pair BounPrem - Long Khong, You Never Eat Alone, Seven Project, Even Sun), adaptation of the y-novel Hemp Rope.

It’s a serviceable series about hot swimmers flirting and dealing with family drama in a sweetly earnest manner, but ultimately it squanders the talent in play. I would’ve preferred a cleaner narrative arc, less angst and more plot, fewer couples, and a shorter series.

That said, there’s nothing objectively wrong, sub-standard, or off-putting about this show. And it has lots of consent and other good qualities.

Realistic Ace Trappola + Headcanons

Okay so getting straight into it, this is my first post about my headcanons and realistic versions of twisted wonderland characters and the first one being introduced is *drumroll* Ace Trappola! Ace fans, you eating good tonight my chickies (that sounds so weird if u dont think of chickens right away LMFAO).

Sidenote: When headcanoning Ace and all my other characters, I take both factual and some of my personal thoughts/beliefs of the character to construct my headcanons.

So for Ace, its evident that I gave him acne due to reasoning such as his diet (fav food being cherry pie and mentioning his liking towards burgers) plus he is literally a teen boy that also has no women in his life and stereotypically the mother is the one to bring up looks as an issue, so without this Ace probably would have never gotten the right treatment for his acne.

He’s already a red head so I added on that by giving him freckles. Also, it's known that redheads are more prone to acne, so another note as to why I gave him acne.

For his features for a realistic rendition, I went with a heart shaped face (because Ace’s card suit is hearts) but his widow's peak is hidden beneath his bangs. He has a snub nose shape which is quite round and slightly upturned. He has thicker eyebrows cause we all know bro don’t give a shit about his appearance.

For his hair I went wild, it's extremely fluffy, a bit curly and like shoulder length when wet. Bro has had like two haircuts his whole life and probably smells foul. I also tried to keep to the original style pretty closely without it looking really weird like bro came straight out of an anime.

I didn't draw the bodies for any of them but Ace is more lanky with long legs and a rectangular body shape, but he has pretty big feet and hands.

Yeah and he's got a light British accent gang I’m sorry 😭 – he uses slang often as well.

Personality and backstory headcanons + a bit of character analysis:

Okay so Ace is one of the very first characters we meet in the game and a good one at that, a lot of people just put him in the category of “dumb friend with one brain cell”, and yes that's kinda true but every person had a reason to be the way they are due to personal experiences. We know in canon that Ace has always lived with his father and older brother but due to the literally no backstory on his mum, I’m saying his parents are divorced which he has much more time with his dad, also by his mannerism being so straight to the point and not sugar coated, this could be due to him being raised in an only male household. Which could also hint to why he “didn't feel committed” to his former relationship in middle school, he was so new to this type of love and got scared. After all he is just a teen, cut my boy some slack. (#1 Ace defender)

Due to this relationship with his mother and seeing how his parents fell out of love, fought or similar, he’s very bad with women which is why he has only male friends. The only way he would have a girlfriend (or woman friend) is if they were not sensitive to his zero-filter way of speaking and even tell him off for it. (not me doing this since my yuusona is a girl 💀)

It's still mentioned that the whole family gets together around holidays (although this could possibly just mean his grandma and such and not the mothers side) so maybe the divorce wasn't messy and they just didn't love each other anymore, which happens all the time with quick relationships.

Ace is also pretty immature and not into deep and emotional conversations which is common with teen boys (especially around his age group). So not trying to hate, but all those scenarios made up with him comforting the reader and helping them feel better, in reality, he probably wouldn’t have gotten why you're so sad and not really know how to comfort you. Which is completely fine! He's not fully grown in body or mind and people need to accept this.

He definitely makes your mum jokes and sex jokes, bro cannot stop himself laughing when a teacher says anything sex related. He's highly competitive and will sulk if he loses a basketball game or bet with a friend.

Also despite being not very empathetic (not on purpose though), he appreciates the little things. For example, he’d appreciate you remembering his birthday or always having a spare pencil for him in class as you know he always loses his. He really appreciates those friends and even though he lacks in some areas, he will always protect them and stay by their side no matter what.

In conclusion, he's just some teen boy who's still learning about life and people. I had a lot of fun making the realistic design and giving him more depth as a character and I'll be doing this for the rest of the cast and after that maybe side characters?? Only if you guys want it though, I’ll also one day release my yuusona 😞. (she’s my queen get ready yall (hi i’m the 10/10 editor and assistant 😋)) (together, we are big brain)

The men in your life were prepared this time for what was to come.

It was one hell of a painful menstrual cycle and even Kid was told to not tease the affected party.

Pillows fluffed, blankets warm and snacks to your disposition.

They organized themselves on who has better patience. Day one was Wire’s. He was good at keeping you comfortable and making sure to help you run a few errands by going to the grocery store and get your favorite things just so he could cuddle and kiss you better. You’d both watch drama series and binge your favorite shows.

Day two was Killer’s. You were an emotional crying mess when you had the blonde doing everything and anything to keep you happy. From cooking and cleaning to massaging your feet and lower back. Depending on how bad it was- he’d have ice packs and warmers for your disposition. Usually you’d lean for ice packs, you had a personal muscle heater that could cuddled you silly while spoon feeding you ice cream. Day two with Killer was have him dot on your and treat you like a Queen.

Day three was Eustass Kid.

And for good reason.

“You fuckin’ suck, Eustass.”

“Oh yeah? You know what’s not sucked!?”

But he loved it.

The best part of day 4 was having Heat play video games with you. He is barely around during the day since he works at night and needs to pass out. But he always takes the time to dedicate himself to you like this.

The last day of your period would be cuddled up together, sleeping with your entourage of big intimidating men and their dotting, in their own style of course.

Kid would have his nails painted by you and he did yours. Headband on and mud mask on for at least 10 minutes.

Wire would be making popcorn and binging 4 hours straight a series they all wanted to knock out. He was next in line to get his eyebrows plucked and detailed by you.

Killer would make chocolate covered treats and give you kisses, while you got to taste what the cook was making and made everyone jealous. In return, you’d sit down and braid his hair, telling him how good he’s been to you.

And Heat would be on your lap, when he came home from whatever errand he was doing. He’d enjoy your fingers deep into your scalp and hum happily whenever your scratched a very particular spot. He’d also have deep conditioning applied to his hair just so you could both rinse it off later in the shower.

It can be the worse week physically.

But the men in your life had it covered.

You eventually roll out of bed to look at the time *7:28 am*. You start your regular morning routine taking off your bonnet, getting in the shower to wash your body, your face, then your locs. After your refreshing shower you feel all the weight on your shoulders fall off as you start to fish for an outfit.

You decided to wear a long brown flare skirt with a simple white crop top and a khaki cardigan. Not feeling like doing your makeup, you style your locs into a messy bun, wrapping it into a scarf, putting on your jewelry, but completely forgot your kimoyo beads and started your day. You came back home with a slight smile on your face and multiple bags in your hands. As you put your bags down you see someone staring at you from the corner of your eye, you turn your head to see Shuri on the couch with a slightly irritated look on her face, still in her lab uniform. “You’re home early” you said mockingly, staring back at her with the same expression.

Shuri stood up and walked towards you “Where have you been?” You looked at her genuinely confused “Shuri i’m not in the mood right now” you said in an irritated tone. “All I asked was a question sithandwa” She says in a loving tone “Oh don’t try that lovey dovey shit with me like you didn’t just question where i’ve been when you have came home later than this before” You countered. Shuri looks offended as she responds “Look uthando (love) I know i’ve been busy in the lab but i’m just worried about you, you know how serious I am about your safety and you completely forgot to put on your kimoyo beads. I had to send out Okoye to find and spy on you just so I can know that you’re safe.”

“so what?!” You screamed, Shuri lowered her eyebrows “I know your upset at the moment but I need you to calm yourself down and remember who you’re talking to” She said in her dominant tone. You felt a wave of heat in you but decided to ignore it as you started to cry “I’m just tired of getting my hopes up to see you, to spend a decent amount of time with you and end up disappointed every time. I shouldn’t have to compete with a fucking lab for your attention Shuri !”.

Stitches run through the sides of his body and face. On his chest at the side is stitched a trans flag-colored heart with the letters " We love U!" -- the word love is just represented by a heart. His hair is brunette, curly and very long. His eyes too are a brown shade-- his eyes are big and lashed like those found on some children's dolls, the sclera are yellow. Below his eyes, fur-patches of pink blush are there. In his grin, his taken teeth are seen, one of them bleeding still at the side. Not all the teeth are there yet. He only wears pants in dark shades that seem to smoothly become heels in one piece-- stitches run along the sides of these too.

I am by Pabit's side. I am a shorter, light brown skinned person of average size with longer black hair and a round sparsely acne-marked face. I wear square pink glasses. My dress is a bright teal chudidar with multicolored flower designs in outline, and a sandy gold dupatta with pants of the same color to complete it.

Pabit grins and leans with one arm unsteadily on my head, I am clasping my hands in closed-eye delight, clearly excited. I lean to him. His face tilts slightly and he looks amused, one eye squinted while the other crinkles.

Beside me the text is written in a pink and black outlined box -" I'd love to be just, just like you"-- words in blue pen. Then in black--" I'll be made of felt and flesh and" -- then an arrow leads to a lavendar cloud saying " Free!" in bigger words.

My fanart for @askpabit ...!! I was trying for SO MANY DAYS and I FINALLY did it woooo..!!! I'm so tired after my flight so I'm short on words but I've been following this blog since like the beginning I think. The artist obviously has a lot of talent and he's really sweet too. Askpabit has been a happy influence on my life and here's my expression of that! I wish the artist all the best in his future endeavours. :) (smiley emote)

I really enjoyed coloring this by the way. Hehe all my faves become FLUFFY. I know Pabit's different here from your version but I hope you still like him...!! This is kind of just how I roll in my style.

The very first concept art( Not this one) had him more like a potato sack LOL. But anyway I tried to make him look like he's made of felt..!!! As blog lore dictates, hehe. And I remember saying I really liked how Pabit's movements worked all cutesy and kind of, like he's really stuffed, like a toy. It was really neat to see coming through in just non-animated images So I tried to imitate that a bit.

I love that they made their hostel couples resort.

Boston being a hypocrite part X. Blaming his fucked up character on cookies. And saying that video recording him was "disgusting" while doing the same thing to Mew and Ray. And I know there's a difference between recording kissing vs hook up. But still he had no right.

Ray just really went with it didn't he? What the fuck? I honestly had to stop the episode because I was cringing and panicking for him.

Big plus for saying the truth to Mew, but the messy stage presence wasn't necessary (drugs will do that to you).

I have so many mixed emotions about how Sand chose to go about the whole "Top cheated on Mew". Because on one hand he might have manipulated Ray into telling the truth for him. But on the other hand, he might have felt bad for Mew. He didn't know how to go about it so he chose Ray to be the one to tell his friend.

Mew you fucking legend. That was so amazing. How he just delivered. Such a style, such a mastermind. But my heart broke for him.

okay so I’m halfway through the bear s2e6 and my thoughts are: I think like what bothers me about the Claire x carmy stuff is how much it takes away from the restaurant. like there’s so much going on in the restaurant and then it keeps cutting to this stuff with claire and im happy that carmy is getting to be his own person and be happy and be treated with kindness (side note I didn’t see Carmy sending everyone home at end of episode five as him being like everyone go so we can make out I saw it more as he didn’t want to be in the argument and it was kinda a lot! emotions are high tensions r high why keep arguing and going over something that needs a break?) more under cut

but I think that’s the point of Claire ljke we as viewers are taken away from the restaurant into this separate world of carmy’s and he deserves to be happy but i like . claire feels like a distraction (albeit a nice one for carmy!) and I don’t think there’s anything too wrong for that .. like yes she’s very much like the kinda soft sweetheart person but also.. i think like . it is okay for people to be boring even if she has a high intensity job . also maybe she is like that (boring) because her job demands soo much? like idk maybe she has a good balance ce of things and that’s why it’s such a stark difference between how carm treats his job and how she treats her job

also I think like i don’t really care about carmy syd in a romantic context (not that there’s anything wrong with it I just think that so far it’s kinda too messy?? like syd feels like she can’t trust carmy bc of how he stepped out on the food tasting and all the advice that other people had and also they don’t have matching communication styles when they’re panicking, and carmy is technically still in a position of power over her so it just feels way too messy

also I think comparatively like syd and Markus do have something there like the way that Markus looked at his phone after calling her makes me feel like he has something for her. plus throughout season one he was the one that was the most connected to her + the dinner that they had ? idk I do think there is something !

Step By Step (Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 8 of 10 - Emotional blackmail from the ex notwithstanding, I guess it’s Pat’s turn to break hearts. I have to say Up was really well cast in this part - extremely believable. Well done all around. Jeng is so smitten, so awkward, so cautious, yet so sharp when it comes to a seme confrontations. I LOVE how sensitive Jeng is to the fact that he has a one-sided crush but also deluded by how much he wants the fantasy of the relationship. The agonizing roller coaster we watch him go through in this ep did a lot of work to elevate and expand his character. (Oh hi Green!) La Pluie (Sat iQIYI) ep 8 of 10 - Don’t kiss someone else. Just argh. Dumb plot divice. I expected better of you LP. Everyone is so overdramatic and overreacting. I wonder if (in addition to all of the other tropes this narrative is scrutinizing) it’s examining bisexual identity through Pat + his ex? Like, this episode is actually about trusting the bisexual to choose his gay lover when he has the so called “option of being normal.” That soulmate is an allegory for gayness & identity & choice (and whether we even have a choice in who we love and are attracted to) and the interplay all of this has with one's own perception of self and other's perception of you… Or am I giving it too much credit? Meanwhile... l flipping adore the love triangle twist, and really wonder if they’re gonna have the guts to take this aspect to its inevitable triangular conclusion. Such a good show.

Love Tractor (Korea Weds iQIYI) eps 3-4 of 8 - I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IT IS EVERYTHING. SHUT UP I AM FERRIL FOR THE BEAUTIFUL CITY BOY & HIS YOUNG FARMER. Come on. Korea. Have mercy? Plus some language play? Slayed. Right... the episode; This show reminds me so much of a Korean style Restart After Come Back Home. I’m not even slightly mad about it. It’s the BL I didn’t even know to ask for. Soap opera tumble and baby in hospital is SUCH a princess moment and I am living for it. Although the reversal is even cuter, princess turns out to be a caring tsundere Dom. And then obligatory water-hose frolicking! Oh, stop, you. (Allegory much? i being to think hose spraying is just another way of BL saying... well... hose spraying) AND “there is only one bed but they slept together on the floor together anyway”. These boys are hitting all my favorite tropes. BL please never lose your sense of childish wonder. And... the hose spraying is nice too.

Tokyo in April AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 1 of 8 - Based on a NSFW yaoi, this is a reunion romance that takes place in an office. Look, this is a weird little 2nd chance at love that reminds me a bit of Our Dating Sim. But it’s more traditional yaoi office romance with evil boss and inter-departmental politics. The leads are cute childhood (almost) sweethearts and I adore it unreasonably already.

Vian the series (Vietnam YouTube ) ep 6 of 12 - Vertical video prod is stupid. I’m sorry young people. Stop it. BUT the cuddling is cute. Christ BV can kiss. Is there anyone he doesn’t have amazing chemistry with? Oh the sunshade trope I haven’t seen that one in forever. Also clearly his character has a type, and that type = ultra-bitch.

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan) - pay attention TTJ THIS is how you do a special. But I’m gonna do a series review, here ya go: I was always gonna love the show if they stuck to the manga (which is very dear to my heart). And they did, paralleling it almost exactly. It’s a quiet & cozy little parable of found family alleviating loneliness. Possibly too slow for some but definitely high up there for me with the best of what Japan can do (like Restart After Come Back Home), it’s only flaw (if I dare say such a thing) is that it is not really “romantic.” Lovely & sweet but the romance beats are being used to build a family relationship, not just couple intimacy, it’s OK with me, but not totally BL. 9/10

oh, hell yes. bout to put my lifetime of my own brain plus everyone i’ve met through mental health exploration and treatment plus living in care with other traumatised and mentally ill kids to work. (although, obligatory disclaimer, these are just ideas and me messing around, mental health is messy and complicated especially when translating between modern understanding and how that would’ve been understood and expressed in-period. this is not me formally diagnosing these characters, more just being like ‘hey, what if’ in a more nebulous sense. and, again, mental health is messy!)

first of all, jack definitely has c-ptsd - complex post-traumatic stress disorder, caused by consistent and long-term trauma and, as the name implies, with more complicated and far-reaching symptoms than ‘standard’ ptsd. he dissociates a lot, and his visions of santa fe can border on delusion when he’s in worse states - which can sometimes border on hypomania. his self-esteem is unstable and imbalanced, and he has a lot of issues with paranoia; he believes the world is against him, that anyone will betray him, that any information learned about him will be used against him. he lies compulsively as a result, about even the most innocuous stuff. he uses anger as a cover for his emotions. he’s restless and unable to really hold grudges because he’s so desperate for bonds, but he’s also quick to back off when people get too close. he has a pretty fearful-avoidant attachment style, but feels deeply betrayed when other parties are the ones to back away from him instead of the other way around. he also probably has adhd, defined by hyperfocus and hyperfixations and inattentiveness to anything he finds dull, he’s fidgety and talks a lot and usually ends up putting his foot in his mouth and then talking even more.

david has anxiety and frequent panic attacks, and i can also see him having ocpd - obsessive compulsive personality disorder, which is entirely separate from ocd. it’s characterised by a need for perfection and severe anxiety when things aren’t perfect, holding unrealistically high expectations for himself and others, and getting very anxious/distressed when mistakes are made by himself or others. he likes things organised and structured, his perfectionism holds him back from actually doing things, he focuses on work and productivity rather than his needs or hobbies, he has trouble delegating or working with others as he can believe that he’s the only person who can do something right. he has to hold himself back from immediately re-doing tasks for others, like when one of the other newsies ties their boots sloppily or les doesn’t fold his clothes right or sarah doesn’t wash the dishes properly. he’s also autistic.

crutchie has ptsd, bouts of depression, and is all but incapable of being honest about his emotions - he’d rather keep them under wraps and all but avoid them entirely, would sooner make himself sick with them than express them openly to others. he also dissociates, which helps with avoiding emotions, though his dissociative bouts happen most commonly after ptsd triggers or flashbacks. he goes empty-eyed and unresponsive when he’s dissociating, just staring into the middle distance, and he can’t get out of bed on the worst days of his depression. he won’t eat, won’t speak, will at most just try and smile at anyone who expresses concern - tight-lipped, more of a grimace than anything.

race has adhd and episodes of hypomania. he exhibits self-destructive and self-endangering behaviours, including starting fights and generally just doing stupid stuff that could well get him and others hurt, and he absolutely cannot be talked down when he’s hypomanic. he has aggressive/violent outbursts if anyone tries, will stop talking to them - usually running away to brooklyn entirely - until he’s come down by himself, and then he’ll come back and apologise sincerely for what he might’ve said when he was “jittery”. the others are always understanding, though race still harbours a lot of shame for it. he’s terrified one day he’ll say or do something that makes spot hate him.

albert is anxious and restless and a kleptomaniac - he steals compulsively, particularly anything shiny or expensive-looking. he’s not great with relationships, tends to have little interest in other people, and can’t really read tone or social cues. i could see him having symptoms of autism or schizoid personality disorder, which have a considerable overlap in symptoms, most commonly characterised by difficulty with relationships and disinterest and “lack of humour” and preferring being alone - though quite probably not enough symptoms to be diagnosed with either (speaking in the realms of a modern au).

finch, i could totally see having schizoid personality disorder. he’s paranoid too, frequently gets the idea in his head that he’s being watched or followed, particularly since he ran away, or feels like the others are talking about him. he hoards food (as much as he can when there’s so little of it) and has a lot of sleep problems, sleeping little and light. he doesn’t really dream, but when he does they’re stress dreams or nightmares and he always wakes up with his heart pounding. he’ll spend the time until the bell rings sat up, eyes darting around the room, sure there’s something, someone, something.

specs has symptoms of ocd, most commonly rituals to ensure the safety of the other newsies. he has to wash his face just right so that everyone sells okay that day, and step over the trolley lines perfect because if he doesn’t someone‘ll get hit, touch each of the beds in a certain order to make sure everyone’s safe for the night, stuff like that. his glasses are also always spotless, and nobody can touch them.

tommy boy stammers and has social anxiety. splasher has ptsd, and frequent nightmares because of it - and an intense fear of abandonment. elmer has very little self-esteem and is loud/disruptive for attention, including making out-of-turn jokes. henry harbours nothing but guilt for his father’s death (even though it wasn’t at all his fault, it’s often just how grief manifests) and isn’t processing his grief at all, sometimes he’ll lose himself in the delusion that his father isn’t really dead and the deli is still waiting for him; he also has a lot of issues with food, including binging when food is available.

spot’s got c-ptsd and his complicated emotions tend to manifest as anger/aggression. he doesn’t know how to articulate his feelings, and usually won’t try. she’s kind of terrified by her relationship with race, because she doesn’t know why race likes her and wholly believes that he’ll suddenly stop. their sense of self-esteem is very complicated - very high in some aspects, and non-existent in others. he can struggle with depersonalisation.

and, bonus, because i’m me:

the delanceys both have c-ptsd. oscar has adhd and antisocial personality disorder. morris has bpd and autism. feel free to ask me if you wanna hear more about them, or about any other characters i didn’t mention, or even just more about a character in particular <3

Ok, I managed to do a top 5 current favourite books. It’s not accurate because if I didn’t decide to include only one book per series this would be just Realm of the Elderlings. I looked at all the books I put in my all time favourite shelves and tried to see if I would replace any of these 5 by the ones I left behind and I wouldn’t. I think an organized top 10 would be harder to do. I am pretty sure about my top 3 at least for now.

1 - Fool’s Errand by Robin Hobb

There is no doubt in my mind about what my favourite series is. Sometimes I have doubts about what my favourite book in that series is, but ultimately I always end up picking Fool’s Errand because it features so many good interactions between my favourite trio (Fitz, Fool and Nighteyes). Plus, it’s adventurous, fun and also sad. It is also pretty self contained so I think it’s perfect in cases I have to name just one book. The writing is beautiful as usual and it makes me feel a lot of emotions. If I was being truthful, both Farseer and Tawny Man would be in the top and those are two trilogies, which would take over the first 6 spots already.

2 - Shadows Return by Lynn Flewelling

This author doesn’t have the beautiful prose I usually enjoy in my favourites. In fact, her style is a bit messy, but it works for the kind of fun story the Nightrunner series is. I mean, the second book did made me cry a bit and then there is this fourth one, but in general the books tend to be adventurous and fun. This fourth book is very polarizing because the series took a left turn from the fun adventures into complete misery and pain territory. Turns out that that is my preference so I felt blessed. The fact that the story started here has an awful conclusion in the following book kind of makes it lose points, but I can also pretend the series ends here (even though there are two other books after that terrible 5th). I would have preferred it, to be honest. There were two characters introduced here that had spectacular interactions with the main ones and no one will ever know the chills I got from the sentence “My price, little Haba, was you.” The book ruined me and I keep thinking about it still (recent read).

3 - Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Just so much fun and it forever will be my favourite comfort read. The dynamic between Sophie and Howl is just *chef’s kiss* I can’t get over how funny and brilliantly plotted this book is. The opening line is one of my favourites. It starts in such a fairytale-like way and it’s beautifully done. A true masterpiece in such few pages.

4 - Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

I usually pick my favourites due to how they make me feel more than other merits so this one is probably the most clever in the way it addresses some societal topics. It is still a product of it’s time and I am sure some changes would have been made now to accommodate that, but I still think it’s fantastic and for once I enjoyed a book with aliens and spaceships.

5 - Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett

I debated between this and Hogfather, but ultimately I picked this one because Hogfather still has one or two scenes that I didn’t care much for while in this one every character was fun and interesting to follow. It goes really in depth into the witches of the Discworld, especially Granny Weatherwax, and those books always tackle some feminine issues that are still relevant.

this starts after the plasm wraith fight, and the koppaites invite the hocotatians on the drake so that they can go back to their planets

alph, teaching olimar how to start the s.s. drake: ...so then, you press this, then this... and you're done! it's not very different from hocotate ships i've studied

olimar: interesting! this is the first switch, correct?

alph, starting to walk away: correct! ....if you excuse me captain olimar, i'd like to check on my crewmates. if you'd like, you can start the s.s. drake once you are familiar with the controls! (after all, how many other chances will you have to start our drake?)

*jump to after checking on brittany and charlie

alph: *sigh* i might as well check on louie, wherever he is

*checks whole ship for louie

alph: (where could he be? i checked everywhere! could it be possible that he...) NEVER CAME ON THE DRAKE?

alph: (it'll be okay! i'll just make a quick trip off the drake and find him, then we will all go home!)

*alph goes onto the formidable oak surface, looking for louie

alph: louie! you need to come on the drake! LOUIE!

louie: *incoherent*

alph: louie?

louie (uneasy): it's not dead..

alph: what?

louie, pointing at the plasm wraith: the wraith... it's alive..

alph, grabbing louie's hand: louie. we need to GO.

*alph and louie run back to the drake, but olimar had started the ship, and it took off

alph: WHAT? no! no! we're still on the surface! no! they can't leave! are you kidding me?!

*they watch the drake leave the sky, alph absolutely snaps

alph, borderline tears: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! what were you thinking by not boarding the drake?! so irritating, so irresponsible! you have always just caused trouble and look at us now! WE ARE TRAPPED HERE. i wish i would've left you here. alone. should've NEVER went to check up on you.

*louie stares, turns around and walks away

alph, crying: okay! bye! just leave!

The King of Bugs and the Keen Engineer: in which Louie and Alph get left behind after the events of Pikmin 3

OKK so i know its not completely original (since it basically is pikmin 2 debt ending, just with more), i have no idea if anyone has done this with just louie and alph? little parts of this concept have been in my head since jan 2021, with king of bugs louie and alph being like "the queen of bugs" (but that title doesn't make much sense for him). i'd really like to develop a relationship between alph/louie, like how they become comfortable with each other and how they start to become more than just "im stuck with some guy on a planet." but i think it would be very rocky, with louie's communication style and with alph's fear/emotions plus more. but i do want it to be alph x louie at some point, so i tagged it

to explain this a bit: louie was untied, but i don't think he ended up boarding the drake out of pure curiosity due to the plasm wraith (no one saw him board either, because of the excitement toward the cosmic drive key, no one was worried about louie too much). the wraith makes him uneasy, so he wanted to confirm it was gone, since he feels it could mess up their way back home if it was still alive. he does see it, alive, and it shocks him. meanwhile, alph is teaching olimar the basics about starting up a koppaite ship, specifically the drake. olimar is interested in alph's engineering viewpoint, while also being curious about koppai technology. alph happily explains how the ship works, and offers olimar if he wants to take it for a spin whenever he's ready. alph checks on brittany and charlie, who are in their respective areas (still cooling down after the plasm fight). alph figures he might as well check on louie also, after all, he doesn't think louie is too bad of a guy, he was probably just scared and that's what caused his actions. alph looks around for louie and can't find him, which leads him to the conclusion that he might have never entered the drake. alph freaks out, prepares to leave, but forgets to tell anyone that he's making a trip out, 1. he thinks he could make it in time before the ship takes off, and 2. he's too worried about louie to remember to notify. he leaves the drake and finds louie up the formidable oak (right before u drop down and find olimar laying). louie is scared of the plasm wraith and scared that it is alive still, and alph is shocked/scared as well and runs with him back down to the drake, but olimar had started the ship. (he probably in there like yeahh woo! did it alph! alph? ...alph?) they watch the drake take off, and alph starts to get extremely upset and angry, he can't believe the drake is taking off without them. he starts to blame louie for even being out there in the first place because alph is so scared and upset and says things he doesn't mean. louie gets yelled at by him and just walks away, in which alph is still pissed off (they both temporaily forget about the wraith). not drawn, but something i want to get to at some point is alph apologizing to louie (after he finds him again) about his outburst and from then on they stick together. annnnd a lot more

aaahh if anything doesn't make sense or if there's like a plothole or something just ask me about it, ill explain if i have an answer!

i do plan to make a bit more for this idea/concept (i think i posted some earlier, there's a king of bugs louie drawing "this is my planet, i am the king" that reminds me of this). if you want to make anything for my specific version of it ummm just tag me, or use the hashtag for it (the king of bugs and the keen engineer / tkobatke) used below? i think that will work yes? IF ANYONE HAS A BETTER ABBREVIATION let me know!!!!!

sorry for the long post!!! forgive me, and i will like, half promise on this looking better next time i draw it, this paper i use at work is hella small (literally as tall as a bic mechanical pencil) and im half hiding my drawing when i do it, so ill try a little bit better next time on the quality aspect. im also not good at comics sorry lol

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?

"Dust Yourself Off" was probably one of the most challenging, largely because of the format. Committing to the drabble format, the switching POVs, trying to make each one it's own little vignette that could stand on it's own, but also making them all blend together into a coherent story... that one was a lot of work.

Plus, that fic was just really emotionally charged and kind of draining at times to write. The same goes for the scenes in 'Bad Luck' when Johnny is opening up about his childhood or his mom's death.

🎈describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

I don't even know how to begin to describe it, honestly. But it's pretty fixed. Even when I try to write something in a different style, it still always comes out sounding like me. For better or worse.

💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?

Welcome to the Party, Pal. Being such a rare pair, I really didn't expect much of a response to that one at all. Like, *I* loved that fic, but I didn't expect anyone else to love it. But I still get comments sometimes asking me for more Johnny/Lyle.

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

Plot? What is this thing of which you speak? 😂

It's definitely the characters. My stories typically don't have much in the way of plot or action, so they live or die by the characters. If you're not invested in them and their journeys, then it all kind of falls flat. I guess figurative language goes hand-in-hand with that. I'm very particular (re: obsessively perfectionistic) about word choice and imagery, since I'm trying to evoke very specific emotions.

This bit from the next chapter of "Karate DILF" makes me laugh. Honestly, Sam and Johnny are so much fun to write, their back and forth is almost as fun as Johnny and Lyle.

Anthony raised his chin in defiance. “You’re not my dad, you can’t tell me what to do.”

Johnny opened his mouth, but he really didn’t have a counter punch for that. He wasn’t the brat’s dad – thank fuck for that – and he was the last person to lecture anyone about studying. Thankfully, Sam once again had his back.

“Yeah, well I’m your sister and mom left me in charge, so go do your homework, twerp.” Sam pulled a hair tie off her wrist and twisted her curls up in a messy bun. When Anthony still didn’t budge, she casually reached for the knives and dragged out the biggest, meanest looking chef’s knife in the wooden block. “Now,” she ordered, grabbing the honing steel and sharpening the blade’s edge with a threatening snick.

Anthony narrowed his eyes at her, but finally hauled himself off the couch and stomped up the stairs, grumbling the whole way.

“And no Dungeon Lord 'til you’re done!” Sam shouted at his retreating back.

The door to Anthony’s bedroom slammed shut a second later, rattling the whole house. Johnny turned to gape wordlessly at Sam.

“Did… did you just threaten your brother with a knife?” he asked, torn between disapproval and delight. The corners of his mouth twitched, amusement winning out.

“Yeah.” Sam gave a nonchalant shrug as she slid the knife back into the block.

“I’m guessing I should probably be upset about that, huh? Like, as a responsible adult.”

She looked up at him, blue eyes twinkling with mischief. “Probably. But you’re not.”

I may have introverted and awkward tendencies and anxious nature also behave as modest, gentle, dainty, and polite, I describe myself as fiery, confident, loud, humorous, and, passionate ambiverted individual who doesn't mind to be vocal about everything and would always stand on what I truly believed claiming to be a realist, plus I swear on a daily basis contrary to my soft features. The darker side of mine would be feisty and aggressive (due to anger issues) when someone triggered me where I may become cold, intimidating, and scary when enraged, would don't give a f and discreetly shady towards the people that I hate, and will cut off a connection with someone if needed without any hesitation; Sometimes I call someone out in secret when they dare to invalidate my feelings. My deepest side is I'm a soft-hearted overthinker that cry over small things sounding so petty and dramatic, frustrated for being a perfectionist provoking even more due to living up with expectations which stressed me out, and undeniably hopeless romantic recognizes a soft spot for dumb jokes, cheesy pickup lines and prefer people with a good sense of humour who see myself as equal.
