I recently attended a birthday party for a 5 year old, and I was struck by how polite she is. And how it goes beyond just saying please and thank you.

I spend time with her family fairly often, so we are freely affectionate about hugging each other. But with new people, she always asks if they want a hug first.

She asked me "Can I tickle you?" and was super chill when when I said no.

I was wearing a sparkly necklace that I could tell she was interested in, so I asked her if she wanted to see it. And when she said yes, rather than reaching for my cleavage (where it was dangling) she let me hand it to her and held it so gently without yanking the chain.

Her parents are doing such a good job teaching her about consent and personal boundaries and I'm just like "How is this 5 year old more considerate than most of my adult relatives?"

My biggest pet peeve I had with the demo was how the narrative insisted that MC was mad at Ais or found him annoying and pushed them to be mean to him, and I thought that was lowkey uncalled for. Like, he threatened MC once when they met, which, dick move, sure. But MC literally barged into his place, and in the world where everything is trying to kill you all the time, I can't really blame Ais for a little hostility towards strangers. And after that, he was pretty chill, actually. He helped MC when they almost fell into the weird magical pool, answered all of their questions and even had one of the soulless escort them back. And when they meet afterwards, MC is mad at him for... kicking them out to go drinking, as they put it? Which was so weird to me, like, he literally owed MC nothing and he did much more than that already.

Tbh I never understood the people who get upset at the idea pikmin 4 may be a reboot? I'm not even talking about those who disagree with the idea or otherwise think it isn't a reboot. You're entitled to your opinion. I'm talking about the people who get heated over it. Who insist it would be a terrible choice, that it makes no sense, that Nintendo "clearly" doesn't care about the story if that's the case, and insults anyone who suggests it may be a reboot.

Like... It kinda does make sense, though? The franchise is over 20 years old now and has been put on pause for roughly a decade; the series has a few new writers, old writers could have changed their minds on some things, and that's not even getting into the fact that most people playing Pikmin 4 would be new to the series, and a good chunk of returning players are casuals who may have forgotten certain story details. Hell, I'd argue a decent number of players starting with Pikmin 4 hadn't even been BORN yet when Pikmin 3 was released.

Regardless if you think Pikmin 4 is a reboot, I think it's easy to see why it potentially being one would be a good call on Nintendo's part. It gives them the freedom to do what they want/need to do with the story while not being held back by 10-20 year old details. They'd also get to reverse any more questionable choices, like Pangea Ultima in Pikmin 3.

It gives the story a fresh start. Again, if you think it needed it or that it even is a fresh start is your own call. I just never understood the people who got like... Angry over it, to the point of insulting Nintendo and anyone who thought it may be a reboot over it.

My Xmas was such a fucking mixed bag lol. On the upside, my parents got me this really nice winter coat in the style I'd been looking for, a gift I neither asked for nor expected (gifts are usually just like. a card and maybe some slippers or smth) but obviously am very grateful for

There is so much potential! Please tell me you plan on updating and finishing it? If you’re not, can you at least share with us the fic plans so we can have some closure about it? ... you know, i debated for a long time if i would even bother answering this ask, or just delete it right off the bat. because in my opinion, this is an incredibly rude, insensitive and entitled thing to send to any writer. it was ONLY A FEW DAYS AGO that i talked publicly about how important it is to remember that writers are humans, too, not machines, and to please treat us like humans. and yet here i am again.

i'm going to answer this one more time, and i'm going to answer it in detail, and then in future if i get any asks in this vein, they WILL be deleted without any interaction. you guys are making me consider turning off anon asks entirely, which i really don't want to do, because the other half of my anons are SO very lovely!! but i also have had enough of waking up to rudeness and blatant entitlement in my inbox.

so. why exactly is it that i think this ask is so entitled and insensitive? didn't the anon say "with all respect and love" and compliment my fic at the start of it?

yes. yes, they did. but the thing is, saying "with all respect and love" doesn't mean you can then proceed to be rude to me and it's all fine. that's like me saying "with all due love and respect, i have decided to delete the fic entirely." the fact that i prefaced it with "love and respect" does not make what i did later alright. (although in this case, it WOULD be alright regardless of whether i prefaced it with "love and respect" or not, since it's MY fic and i can do what i want with it.) this anon, on the other hand - this anon has no right to demand anything of me. i am a fanfic author and i do this for free. it is not my job. i have no obligation to do any of this. which means that nobody out there, really, has any right to demand performance from me. (lmao can you tell i have been deep in the law textbooks lately) but the point stands! i don't owe you anything at all.

yes, you can ask me nicely, and i can choose to reply if i want. (hell, if you ask me nicely, i'd probably LOVE to write things for you!!) but you don't get to DEMAND updates from me. and "tell me you plan on updating and finishing // can you at least share with us the fic plans so we can have some closure" is not asking nicely. that's demanding. YES, anon gave me a compliment and they said "with all respect and love." but they're STILL demanding performance from me, and that's not okay. the anon is making it sound like i owe you "closure" (even though this is a work of fiction, not a break-up you're going through, and i think the word "closure" is a VERY dramatic one to use.)

once again (because apparently i LITERALLY CANNOT emphasise it enough) i do not actually owe you anything. i, katie singsweetmelodies, owe you NOTHING. i do not owe you updates or fic plans or whatever the case may be. i might choose to share them with you, yes, but on my own schedule, since they're MY creations made in MY free time.
