my guide to getting started on firefox is the only one you need

step 1: download firefox from the official website

step 2: import your passwords and such from your browser. this sounds complicated, but it should take no time at all

step 3: download ublock origin from the firefox add-on website

thats literally all you need to do in terms of out of the box setup. you may wish to do more, such as downloading more add-ons (see under the cut for some i recommend), but this is all that is needed for most people

my recommended add-ons:

sponsorblock & her sister dearrow. sponsorblock allows you to skip sponsors in youtube videos, dearrow changes clickbait titles and thumbnails

dark reader. forces all websites to have a dark mode

the wayback machines official extension. allows you to archive and see archived versions of websites with 2 clicks

right-click borescope. allows you to view and save images, even on websites that disable it

search by image. what it says on the tin, including like a billion different image search engines, and you can customize which ones it uses

ruffle. a new flash player that is supposedly safer?? idc i use it because i have nostalgia for flash

xkit rewritten, my beloved. a suite of tumblr features you can toggle on the fly, including one-click reblogs with tags, blocking entire posts, loading the vanilla versions of audio and video, and much, much more

dont accept webp. does what it says on the tin, kills webps FOREVER

wikipedia vector skin and old reddit redirect. forces the old, better layout for those two websites

tampermonkey. allows you to write and use scripts for any website. examples include the dashboard unfucker and youtube no rounded video

redirector. make websites redirect to any other website, like forcing fandom wikis to go to breezewiki, forcing youtube to display shorts as videos, or forcing tumblr to display images in full quality (plaintext of these rules)

I totally get gendered petnames like dude, sis, bro, and whatever else, and I get why some people might be confused as to why some trans people might take issue with a petname you might think is neutral. However, I do want people to remember that trans people often have different relationships with those petnames because they're gendered, and they might be uncomfortable with those connotations. A trans woman who doesn't want you to call her "dude" is probably not doing it to anger or accuse you of anything, but she might just have a negative relationship with that word.

I get that it can be hard to change habits, but it is worth it to include trans people. If a trans person in your life asks you not to use certain words, I promise they aren't trying to fuck you over or make you feel like you're under attack. They are just expressing a boundary - one that cis people also express.

i guess i just need to talk it all out and try to make some sense of it. the GazettE are one of the most important bands in my life. they've brought me so many friends and so much happiness over the years. i was just 13 when i started listening to them and now i'm 27. they were such a huge part of my teenage years. they literally kept me going at some points of my life. their music saved my life.

this has probably been said millions of times but I will say it again.

it's so sad when content creators don't feel the same joy and motivation to create anymore, and it's even more sad when i see the people i follow admit that they feel like they want to quit and leave too. yes, this is a hobby and we should make the things we love without worrying about how many numbers it gets, but at the same time we go through the process of making our content so it can be looked at by other people! content creators are always told how we should feel about our content, but in reality we really do want the attention! we want for our edits/gifs/fanarts/colorings/fics, to be reblogged endlessly and shared, we love reading the comments in the tags, we love to see the numbers on our content and feel proud that we can make beautiful work that people enjoy! i barely started to learn how to make gifs recently, and the process to finding the right scenes, editing them, it's so time consuming. it makes me appreciate gif creators even more because of that process.

anyways, the point is content creators love seeing their works get reblogged. non content creators can call us whiney and dramatic and call out how much we complain, but they'll never understand. if we didn't want our work to be shared then we wouldn't have started to create to begin with! content creators there is NOTHING wrong with wanting those reblog numbers! don't let anybody tell you otherwise! non content creators smash that REBLOG button because that's the only way our content can get around on this hell site! you like our work? then SHARE IT!

ah, yes, Kaeso! it's funny you should mention it, as I was considering today polling my 3 followers who are patient enough to indulge my whims with whether or not I should consider that name. it's been one of my top contenders lately, mostly so that I wouldn't be faced with writing a story in which the main character was given the Roman equivalent of... idk, John. I initially dismissed Caeso over fear that people would mispronounce it as queso, but I think the K-spelling works better, if I can convincingly get away with it (I may put in a pronunciation thing to remind people that it's more like kai-so than kay-so.) the fact that it's old fashioned is something that can be worked into the story. in canon Keith's name is fairly unusual and comes from the surname of his father's best friend, and the Windham family in real life seems to have had a bad habit of surnames as first names (*points at the multiple individuals by the name of Wadham Wyndham*) — so suffice to say I can claim his family is a stuffy old gens who haven't added any new praenomen to the list since the Republic.
