this is the most seriously I've practiced writing in lithuanian in a long time. I'm proud of myself. there's probably glaring errors, and I def used a dictionary when I needed to, but I'm proud of what I've written.

this year has honestly been so bad, but I'm trying to set myself up for next year. I just want to be able to study lithuanian again.

I'm happy just maintaining german and japanese bc I'm already proficient, but studying lithuanian is something I love. I want to get better!

I want next year to be better than this year.

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

Zorya sat there, working on their writing project, stacks of books, messy piles of printed articles, and a plethora of scientific published journals for their article for a climate change organization sat around them. Their eyes scanned each piece, as their hands furiously scribbled down something in their ridiculously cheap legal pads.

Across from them was their partner Ivan, who was focused on reading what Zorya had written so far, his violet eyes slowly going over each word, his hands writing comments in the margins at every chance a thought of his came up for it. Zorya paused for a second, taking a deep breath from everything.

"Ivan," Zorya spoke softly, looking up at him. He tilted his head, and looked over at Zorya.

"Yeah Zoryana?" he asked in a soft and lower tone than usual. His eyes didn't meet theirs at that moment. Zorya felt the heat creep up on their face. They felt themself clutching their pen, hoping to not drop it. Zorya swallowed hard, trying to find the right words.

"Ivan, I...I think I might need more time to work on this project." They gestured to the stacks of books and papers surrounding them.

"I want to make sure it's perfect."

Ivan's eyes met theirs, and he nodded understandingly. "Take all the time you need, Zoryana."

Zorya let out a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off their shoulders. They smiled gratefully at Ivan, who smiled back warmly, some of his light beige hair covered some of his eyes. Zorya looked down at the books and articles surrounding them.

Articles with headlines about the dangers of climate change, and the suffering animals are going through from constant building made Zorya's spine shiver. They got up from the table.

"I think it's time for tea," Zorya grinned, rubbing their eyes under their glasses.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.
