bkdk is so fucking well developed oh my god. few relationships between any two fictional characters come close tbh

it’s not even just the romantic tropes like. childhood friends, complicated history, assumption of mutual disrespect, reveal of mutual respect since the beginning, shared dream for the future, narrative foils for that dream (save to win/win to save), slow repairing relationship, lasting impact from complicated history, still only being highly emotional around/at each other, knowing each other best out of everyone to the point of being the only one to know what to be concerned about, each other’s closest person, saving each other, actions proving positive development explicitly based on the other’s behaviour, nicknames, the intimacy and symbolism of keeping kacchan and deku becoming izuku, each being their own person but also at their core a part of each other…

I could go on forever tbh but their gradual development individually and how the entire time that was intricately tied to who they are to each other was (and is) just. incredible

The war was finally over. The battle finally done. Deku wanted to call it a win but with all the sacrifices and losses he could hardly call it one.

Save to win, win to save, a voice inside his head taunted. He did save and he did win but he failed. He failed to save the one person that mattered most. He won but the cost was so much greater...

Izuku woke again to familiar numbness and white noise, in a place where he simultaneously is and isn't.

"Hey kid!" A strong voice exclaimed. The fifth holder, Izuku thought. He slowly opened his eyes, looking down at himself first. Still wrapped in the black matter of not quite being there. He felt it covering his body, looked at his barely there hands and choked on the matter surrounding his mouth in his attempt to speak.

"It's okay, Izuku. The fight took a lot out of you." The voice of Nana Shimura rang in his ears. He looked up into the smiling face of his mentor's antecessor, seeing her placing a hand on the spot where his shoulder would be.

"We're proud of you, kid!" The Fifth Holder nodded his approval with a wide grin.

They were proud of him, for winning, succeeding, finally putting an end to All For One's tyranny. He had saved Japan, more likely the whole world and they all wanted him to see it.

Izuku felt tears stream from his eyes, the childish habit he thought he had finally gotten rid off. But how could he? How could he when the failure was so prominent, the loss too big to comprehend. Couldn't they see the part where he went wrong?

"There is someone that wants to see you." Nana spoke again, slowly stepping out of his sight, revealing the rest of the vestiges' room. Izuku almost expected to see All Might's vestige form as clear as Nana's or the other former holders', but to his relief - or disappointment considering he really wanted the comfort of his mentor right now - he was still a glowing silhouette of yellow flames and spikes.

Izuku looked around the room, taking in each holder's face and contemplating which one of them wanted to talk to him in such a serious matter. When none of the vestiges showed emotions other than curiosity and caution, he settled his gaze upon the first holder, blinking slowly in an attempt to communicate his confusion. Yoichi chuckled lightly and stood.

"Thank you, Izuku." He began, taking a few steps in his direction. "Thank you for ending my brother's otherworldly horror. Toshinori was right when he chose you as his successor and as the final holder of One For All."

So it was true. There would be no other holder after him. Izuku was unsure how to feel about this revelation. At this point it was just another piece of information dropped into his exhausted consciousness, still overstimulated from the battle field where he had been mere minutes before. Or had it already been hours? He couldn't know until he woke up in the real world again.

"We have something for you, to show our gratitude." Yoichi began again before turning his head towards All Might. "Don't you want to come out? I'm sure he'll be happy to see you."

And if Izuku had to breathe in this place, he's sure he would have stopped at the sight before him, as someone tentatively stepped out from behind All Might's chair and walked forward towards Izuku and Yoichi.

Kacchan

Clad in his disheveled school uniform and standing in all his glory and boyish swagger, as if the war had never touched him at all, stood Kacchan.

Izuku felt his senses come back to him, momentarily panicking that now he would wake up again, lose his chance to talk to him. Yet only the black matter surrounding his stark naked body had vanished, only left surrounding his crotch as if the power of One For All had any sense of human decencies.

This time when Izuku choked, he choked on a sob, quickly clasping his hands over his mouth as if that would hide the noise or stop the tears from streaming down his face.

"Stupid crybaby," Kacchan huffed before stepping closer to Izuku, hesitantly holding out a hand toward the other boy. Izuku understood in an instant - he didn't need to be told with words - and closed the last step between them, throwing his arms around Katsuki's middle and burrying his face in the taller boy's chest as he felt the other's arms wrap tightly around him.

"What are you crying for idiot? You won, you saved everyone." Katsuki muttered, seemingly annoyed at Izuku's outburst. Too bad that everyone present knew better, not from knowing him long but from knowing him through Izuku.

"Kacchan..." the greenette croaked, clenching his hands, bunching up the farbic of his friend's jacket, "I couldn't save you! Kacchan, you... you are-"

"I know. You don't have to say it." Katsuki placed his hands on Izuku's shoulders, pushing the boy away just enough to look into his tear-stained face. "But I'm here now and I'll stay here. That's their gift to us."

Katsuki grinned at Izuku's wide eyed stare. "Now I have no other choice but to stay with you, shitty nerd." Izuku felt Katsuki's hands move from his shoulders up over his neck and finally settling on his jaw. It was a tender touch that has never happened between them before and yet it felt like they'd been doing so for all their lives. He couldn't help but stare into the crimson eyes of his friend and wonder what could have transpired out in the real world had Katsuki not sacrificed himself.

It was then that Izuku felt the familiar pull of the outside world on his being. Desperate for a bit more time he clutched onto Katsuki any way he could; gripping his wrists, grappling through his hair, winding his arms around his back to pull him closer. Katsuki understood.

"It's okay, I'm right here and not going anywhere. I'll make sure you don't forget I'm here." Katsuki's thumb caressed Izuku's cheek. "They still need you out there. And you still need to fulfill our dreams, stupid Deku. You better become number 1 and you better surpass even All Might in the process!" Katsuki's grin turned into a smirk, filled with determination and certainty. You've already become the greatest hero out there, went unsaid but was still perceivable by every soul present in the vibrations of One For All's being.

Katsuki's grin and warm eyes were the last things Izuku saw before waking up.

Turns out while the former holders had embedded Katsuki's soul into One For All to keep him close to Izuku as a thank you, Kacchan had left something with Izuku as well. Even in death the explosive blonde didn't back down, so after a few months of rebuilding Japan and reconstructing hero society, Izuku found himself back at UA's campus, still spending his time training his body and skill-building his various quirks. And after a particularly straining and sweaty work out session, Izuku felt his hands itch as he heard a slight crackle emitting from his finger tips. He made the mistake of looking directly into his hand as his palm it set off an explosion right in his face.

the way that when all might comes into midoriya’s life he also comes into bakugou’s. the way that you can’t seperate any of their dynamics from each other. the way that all three of these charaters are thematically linked with each other. 

the way that ‘you’re next’ is also directed at bakugou as well as midoriya at kamino. the way that its only the two of them who understand what it truly means. the way that all might’s hero career ends not with saving to win, but winning to save.

the way that in the aftermath of deku vs kacchan part 2 all might tells midoriya and bakugou to reconcile their ideals of heroism with each others. the way that all might tells them that once they accept and learn from each other, they’ll both be able to become the greatest heroes.

the way that ‘this is the story of how we all became the greatest heroes’, the way that ‘it’s fine if it’s you’, the way that ‘you’re my image of victory’, the way that ‘when my desire to win outweighs my desire to save, i start acting like you do’. the way that ‘stop trying... to win this on your own’

the way that deku’s scars are from winning and dynamight’s scars are from saving.

the way that during the ‘rouge deku’ arc midoriya has his hood up and face mask on, the way that bakugou isn’t wearing his face mask and headgear.

the way that ‘in that moment, my body moved on it’s own’, in two seperate instances, two-hundred and eighty four chapters apart.

the way that midoriya took on the legacy of one for all, but he AND bakugou are equally both all might’s successors. the way that by upholding the ideals of hope and victory respectively, they create that symbol of piece that all might shouldered by himself for decades.

i have hockey brainrot rn bc my home team is on an inexplicable win streak so here’s my hcs abt who plays what:

- Izuku: absolutely a power forward, specifically a winger. he’s got the speed to be a playmaker and the brawn to board the fuck out of anyone who crosses a line. has absolutely lost a tooth at some point and didn’t start playing until high school. started out as a center but switched out quickly once he figured out a bit more abt position responsibilities and general dynamics w his teammates. prodigy who quickly gains momentum and is signed to an immediate multi year entry level contract.

-Katsuki: been playing since he could walk. grew up on the rink and is a dynamic offensive player. a grinder who picks fights more often than normal but varies between center and winger (bc u know him and deku are the ultimate enforcers). always down to drop his gloves and a playmaker who always makes sure he deserves the C on his jersey.

- Todoroki: legacy player who was raised in method clinics and skills labs. his strength lies in his speed so breakaways are his bread and butter. consistent center despite a bit of a confrontational streak during certain rivalry games. rarely throws gloves but when he does…whatever idiot picked a fight is absolutely skating off spitting chiclets.

- Kiri: easiest answer on the board is absolutely a goalie and no one can tell me otherwise. his save percentage is immaculate bc shots against never goes into the double digits but that doesn’t mean he’s afraid to rock someone’s shit. you know the “touch my goalie and i’ll smash ur face in” rule? yeah not with kiri. mans fights his own battles and wins.

- Denki: I’m really tempted to call him a center but I think he’d prefer to leave face offs out of his repertoire. Consistent with assists bc he’s basically telepathic when it comes to structured plays. chirpy as all fuck and no one can tell me otherwise.

-Sero: general forward, like denki is consistent w assists but unafraid to make plays if he’s in the position to do so. not a fighter, prefers to outplay his opponents w long range slapshots and calculated blue line shots

-Iida: defenseman for sure. he’s got the speed for sure but you wrap that speed up with a bow made of precise hits and snipe assists? fuckin MINT.

-Shouji: another goalie who consistently saves the most absurd shots. I’m talking like a full net kind of guy, sure but also comes out as a bruiser when it’s needed

-Shinsou: winger and a reliable go between. absolutely vicious w his chirps and a bit of a bruiser as well.

I have thoughts on the pros as well but i’m tired as shit so this is all i’ve got for now. :|

shots that should have been in the second season 6 OP

so first of all disclaimer i havent seen any of season 6 and i go on tumblr about once a month these days bc i am so busy but i went on tumblr today bc why not and was greeted with this OP drama bc there's always something new to complain abt when bones is animating a new season of my hero academia! anyway here's this post which is like a combo of ranting and like weak analysis

ok now here's what i wouldve put in the OP:

shot of iida, bakugou, and uraraka standing in the rain and then the shot moves to a wide side profile to see dark deku standing across from them to kinda showcase who the THREE stars of the show were this arc (not counting deku bc he's the star of every arc)

iida, bkg, and uraraka all should've gotten individual sections in the OP with deku which i will explain

the final sequence before the chorus (izuocha handhold) should NOT have been izuocha it should have been bkg and then transitioned to iida and i will elaborate on this

so the part right before the chorus should have been bkg finding deku, and i get that spoilers had to be avoided but my idea is a shot of deku when he's getting dogpiled on by all those people except in a turn of surrealism that avoids spoilers the people instead begin to part like the red sea to let in this light, and deku looks up and his eyes light up and we see bakugou with one hand extended. so it gives the impression that he's important to the arc but it doesn't really allude to the idea of bkg specifically like finding and apologizing to deku because its a lot more symbolic

anyway after that the chorus starts and the scene should flip to deku actually taking someone's hand, but its obviously not bkgs hand and we pan out to see iida as the one taking his hand

so its like prechorus: bkg scene

that quick pause before the chorus starts that every anime opening has, you know the one: close up of deku taking someone's hand

chorus starts: pan out to see deku and iida holding hands

then i would've had like a shot of class 1-A watching them with uraraka close to the front - zoom in on uraraka and then move out and we've transitioned to ochako on top of the building, not with the megaphone or anything but just standing there looking all badass and hot and then we do the wide side profile thing again to see the crowd and like bkg and iida and others in the front and then deku by himself a couple steps forward watching her

and we've effectively avoided spoilers and showed the three important people who help deku get back home

and not gaslight anime onlys into thinking uraraka is the one who finds deku, gets deku to come back with them, gets the civilians to stop harassing deku, and then for some reason is also the one who apologizes to deku, and then later gets killed by shigaraki because shes the closest person to deku as oppose to his childhood friend he's known all his life who deku admires and shared his quirk with first and unlocked blackwhip because of - oh wait actually that was bc monoma was praising bkg and deku was like uh actually that guy sucks *unleashes blackwhip* bc as we all know deku hates bakugou and wants nothing to do with him (big fat /s)

sorry i got carried away and i don't edit my posts so you get to read my unfiltered rambling. anyway point is iida and bkg deserved better in that OP and also. horikoshi is so big on that hand symbolism and it should've been acknowledged. bc such a big thing for me is the way izuku and iidas handhold is so important and bkg is the one who pushes for it and its a kamino parallel, and then when bkg finds deku he likes catches him and stuff but never gets to hold his hand even when he extends it to him and uraraka holds dekus hand but its actually like. really casually handled in the manga? almost like their casual platonic touch is nowhere near the point of uraraka's speech. almost like they're friends who love each other and uraraka wants to make this speech for her friend but also for toga and because shes a hero who wants to help people???

anyway yes uraraka was important in this arc but her important scene was like 1/3 about deku and it was about deku in the most platonic way. like highkey she was like look at this pathetic little man let him in he needs a shower and then she went back to thinking gay thoughts about toga and then deku breaks down and cries because sometimes when ur friends do kind things for you it makes you emotional like when bkg apologizes and the light returns to dekus eyes and then he actually faints.

its all annoying bc i feel like bkg iida and uraraka were all super important this arc but uraraka was important in a way that was very separate from deku and established her as her own person while bkg and iida actually had a lot more to do with deku and then weren't acknowledged at all. istg bones better not fuck up iidas moment in the anime or bkgs apology or anything. i think people race to find the barest hint of romance in any izuocha interaction and i just kind of wish that didn't happen bc the last few manga arcs have established a really nice strong friendship between them and i wish the anime would just adhere to that and follow the manga and trust horikoshi. if u want some attention grabber straight romance kamijirou is right there being heterosexual in the most bisexual way like focus on them

apologies for this incredibly incoherent post i haven't like actually seriously posted on tumblr in forever and this is what I've been reduced to now. this is my expected post quality from now on
