How do you think the townsfolk, including Sally felt having him back, as a new addition to the community?

As concerns the timing, one of my favorite pieces of Piston Cup lore is the series' racing calendar. In Cars 2, the 2010 season ends just before summer, which puts it off-cycle from the NASCAR season, which runs Feb-Nov. And while this isn't canon-official, I did find a Cars 1 lampshade at a thrift store once that puts the tiebreaker race in late May, which would align with Cars 2:

What's better than a Cars lampshade? Absolutely nothing--aside, perhaps, from the look the Lamps Department guy gave me when I brought it over to buy it.

Yet! In Cars 3, the Piston Cup season has shifted. Now it's aligned with NASCAR's season, with the coming season set to begin in February, in Florida.

This suggests to me that at some point during LMQ's career, the Piston Cup realized that summer produces some of the best racing weather, and the most evening daylight, and *it should be a summer sport actually* and completely overhauled the ENTIRE SCHEDULE. Which would be absolutely bananas but sounds very on-brand of them.

The King had probably been trying to turn them onto the idea for literal decades.

One thing I noticed is that Doc on some level is still holding onto racing. The fact that he as kept up his skills at Willy's Butte says a lot. On a day when nothing would happen and Lighting was supposed to be away, he went out and did a lap. Not only do a lap but he did it with his old dirt track tiers.

I think on some level Doc wanted back into the racing world, but his depression blinded him when Lighting came crashing in. At the same time Lighting did need to be humbled, so call it growing pains. It takes the realization that Lighting did have a positive impact on the residents of RS for him to rejoin the racing world.

Doc takes to the world very naturally. He literally joins min race and does a dam good job for his first time ever. Not only that but he wears his old gear. Not caring that he will be recognized. He basically has a sign saying, "I am the Fabolous Hudson Hornet".

I just find it another part of Doc's complex character that they pull of really nice.

do you think cal and bobby are older or younger than lightning? when do you think/hc they started racing on the piston circuit?

Cal is definitely the youngest, the way he speaks and conducts himself gives me feelings he’s younger than Lightning and Bobby. Bobby is older than cal but younger than lightning, this lighting is the oldest.

I Imagine cal started racing in the piston cup a bit after the 2nd movie and Bobby started racing just before the events of the second movie.

Genuine question

In Cars, everyone’s always talking about how Lightning McQueen would have been the first rookie in history to win a Piston Cup, but Doc won a piston cup in 1951 which one would assume was his rookie year considering he is a 1951 Hudson Hornet. So technically wouldn’t Doc be the first rookie to win a Piston Cup??

I mean either they didn’t think of that in 2006 when Cars came out, or I missed the part where they explained/established that plot point.
