Companions react to glitches! Engine shenanigans like violent ragdolling or flying cars, *that one* engine trick where you can fly on it, out-of-bounds, settlement structures defying all laws of nature, dupes, etc.

Cait: Cait watched in horror as the raider she shot flew upwards instead of falling on his back. Then he collapsed boneless in the road, his limbs at impossible angles. It was as if he hadn't weighed anything at all. Cait frowned and shook her head as if it would knock the image away. "I never saw any of this shit when I was on chems," she scowled.

Codsworth: Codsworth couldn't believe his three metal eyes. There were two settlers shopping at the same stall in Diamond City. Both women wore the same buttoned-down shirt with tattered jeans. Their dark hair was styled in matching ponytails. And they moved with identical motions; hands on their hips, heads scanning left-to-right across the wares, then folding their arms and simultaneously asking for a discount. "Um, sir/mum?" Codsworth nudged Sole to look at the identical settlers. "I can't imagine they're twins. Do you think...?" He didn't want to accuse anyone of being a synth, but their similarities were too close for comfort.

Curie: Curie had been staring at the brahmin with its heads stuck in a rock all afternoon. She had measured the animal. Drew its blood. Took its temperature. Finally, Curie relented and pulled Sole from an important meeting with the Minutemen. "I do apologize, Sole, but this could not wait. Look..." They both watched as the brahmin continued to walk forward, moving nowhere, half its body seemingly trapped not between anything, but inside the rock itself. "Do we call someone? I genuinely do not know what to do."

Danse: "Institute bastards!" Danse's profanity instantly roused the soldiers stationed at camp to their feet, but Sole made it to the front of the fold first. They watched as Danse fired at a charging gen 2 synth, and it was obvious why the paladin worried. Instead of a usual blank face, there was a chair protruding where the synth's head should be. Danse dispatched the synth quickly, then called Sole over to examine its body. "Look at this abomination," he spat. "What will those cretins think of next in the name of science?"

Deacon: Deacon was already afraid of heights. It was a miracle Sole convinced him to climb to the roof of the abandoned building already. But when he watched two raiders walk into each other and... stay inside themselves... each facing a different direction but walking toward the building, he wiped the sweat from his brow and spoke to Sole in a voice five octaves higher than usual. "Uh, hey partner? We gotta go. Now, if possible."

Hancock: The mayor wasn't sure if that car was floating because of the jet he hit an hour earlier or new Institute technology, but he didn't think it was his place to find out. Hancock simply turned away and walked silently back to Goodneighbor. Let some poor Brotherhood bastard find it first.

MacCready: MacCready shrieked and nearly climbed up Sole at the sight of the car pinwheeling towards them. It was as if the vehicle was weightless, and it clipped through the road itself. Sole pulled on the merc's arm and blindly rushed them both to the safety of an overpass, which the car moved through without noticing them. "What the... I just... I've never seen..." MacCready was speechless, all the breath having left his lungs from his scream moments ago.

Preston: "I know what I'm looking at, Sole. It's the why I still haven't figured out." Preston crossed his arms and stared at the water purifier with a jukebox sticking halfway through it. The pump was still active. And the stereo was playing the Ink Spots. He just couldn't understand how both were possible. "Is it a prank?" Preston asked, mainly to himself. "A very high-tech, creepy prank?"

Piper: "Blue! Blue, get in here!" Sole nearly knocked down the door reaching Piper, but quickly realized she wasn't in danger. In fact, the reporter was positively beaming as she gestured to a table full of purified water. "Look what happens!" Piper placed a water bottle in her satchel, and when she pulled it out, another one came with it. "They're somehow duplicating. Do I have a magic bag, or was the first water bottle special?" She hesitated. "Actually, if you answer that too fast I'll think you're a synth."

Nick: Nick felt like he was going insane. He had swallowed his pride to show Sole, but even they thought it was some elaborate hoax. "I'm telling you, kid. Every time I walk through the door my outfit changes. And when do you ever see me part with my signature coat?" Nick left the room and returned in a plain drifter outfit. He exited again and came back wearing a red sequined dress more befitting of Magnolia than a synth detective. "This is Deacon. I can't explain it. I don't even want to try. But point me to the church, because I'm about to give that spy the what-for."

X6-88: X6 had been in the Institute infirmary all day. Sole stood anxiously by his side, reading his charts and advocating for him to doctors. It was no use. He had holstered his gun, but somehow his arm stayed suspended in the air; hand formed as if still squeezing the trigger. "They may need to replace my defective arm," he stated flatly, trying not to react to the raw emotion in Sole's eyes. "You can't expect me to defend you looking like a gunless cowboy, now can you? People might start approaching me thinking I'm a Minuteman." Sole laughed at that.

The wallpaper sets my teeth on edge. It clings to the wall like ill fitting skin and it breathes, the sickly looking daffodils heaving as I stumble down the corridor, which groans to and fro like a sailing ship or the belly of a restless god. Each shallow breath I take paints my throat with the smell of ozone and mildew, and the carpet beneath my feet is yielding and warm. It sucks at my feet like wet sand. Reaching the end of the hallway, I fling my hand out to grasp at the slick bronze handle of the friendly looking door but it buckles under my fingers like wet cardboard and I tear through it, unable to stop my momentum. For a sickening moment I plummet, breath hitching as the world falls away and into a vertical corridor of bathroom tiles that glint like molars as my heart crawls up towards my throat. I scramble desperately at the smooth walls, limbs pinwheeling and heart contracting feverishly before I hit the ground with a horrible crunch and sit up in bed. Clammy and trembling, my head reels and I stabilise myself with one hand on the wall as I get my bearings. My heart stops racing and the world stops tilting long enough for me to look around. I am in a bed with a painted metal bed-frame, the duvet is cream and lumpy and embroidered with posies and peonies in faded reds and pinks. It prickles against my skin but I am too relieved to care. I kick off the covers and swing my legs over to the carpet, standing up, pulse finally steady.

The carpet sucks at my feet like wet sand.

Fuck it, i'm tired of trying to write down stuff for the rest of the casts' backgrounds cause the most of it doesn't matter for the au's plot.

Here's the rest of the main ponies's designs and just enough info to understand how they all play into the story below

all you need to know about them:

-Harmony Blossom is a Pianist who works part time as entertainment in the local cafe, and Part time as the town's welcoming comity. she's stubborn as hell and is the first to lend Hawkshaw a hoof when he needs help

-Silversoot is a traveling maid who happens to be in town working for Mayor Sapphire Snow when Hawkshaw comes, and offers to help him out when he starts to form a team out of the locals. While her magic abilities are fairly basic, she's persistent and calm. a good steady soul to real the chaos of the others in.

-Pinwheel Posie is a unicorn who trained under a earth pony martial artist, intending to prove that unicorns don't need magic to be strong, and often time refuses to use her magic at all. Harmony Blossom enlisted her to help them, her strength being of great benefit to them when the had to face off with an Ursa Minor that made itself at home in the caves.

-Lost Atlas is a traveler who loves to explore and find new things, searching for cultures and lands that ponies have little to no information on. He keeps base in HPB, and was about to set off for another month long exploration before he was dragged into the group Hawkshaw was forming by Sky Chaser

-Sky Chaser is a hot headed pony with a thirst for heroism and a love for the stars and everything night sky related. when he catches word that Hawkshaw and Harmony Blossom were creating a team to rid the town of the cursed magic once and for all, he jumped on the chance to be the hero he always wanted to be, no questions asked!- until ghosts started to get involved that is.

-Sundance is a flightless Pegasus artist whom was raised by a tribe of Zebras before coming to HPB to kick off her art career. She has tons of knowledge on alchemy from her time with the tribe. While her superstitions and beliefs can cause the group to question her sanity at times, she's extremely helpful at identifying all the dark magic plants that have been seeping from the caves into the town as of late.

-Gogga Thicket is a bug loving pony who learned to communicate with them during his time lost in everfree. hes the most gentle giant anypony could ever meet, and a big help with navigating the deep caves of Hope's Peak, and utilizing his bug communication abilities to find out more info from the cave dwelling bugs on the odd magic

-Ace Poky is a hard knocked pony, tired of life and want to just get his back on track after getting roped into some nasty illegal shit that got him taken to prison for a while. he settled down in HPB after being released, but when the dark magic that plagued the town didn't give him a chance to relax, he decided to join Hawkshaw to get rid of it once and for all.

-Jinx, despite her lack of horn, is amazing at magic- well at least stage magic. She insists she has a horn and just hides it with her hat, but nopony truly believes her. she's great at doing illusion acts, and uses them quite a bit to throw off her opponent while helping the team fight off the source of the dark magic

so yeah, mismatched band of ponies who are tired of the dark magic and want to do something about it get brought together by Hawkshaw to solve the mystery of Hope's Peak Basin and restore peace to the little town.

-Bubblegum joins as a chance to test out her new inventions

-Steam Gear joins cause he wants to be useful, and has been meaning to try out some body mods Bubblegum made him

-Gingham Crown joins at first just to be a pest, but gains true interest when Hawkshaw offers him the chance to use his talent and lead them into battle.

-Makiroll joins cause Sky Chaser dragged her into the fray in attempts to get her to make friends,

-Smokey Myth joins cause he's the only one who knows enough about the source of the Dark magic to actually stop it.

-and finally Moonwater joins cause she's the villain and has been after the source of the magic for years, she uses the team to get close to it and take if for herself, but her greed backfires on her and the dark magic consumers her, leaving the others to fight her corrupt form.

While there, Hawkshaw meets an array of odd characters who he soon befriends, and receives aid from as he delves deeper into the mystery of the mountain-side town. Will Hawkshaw and co solve the case and bring a well deserved peace to Hope's Peak Basin? Only time will tell
