pov: bo sees you playing the piano for the first time (gn!reader + fluff)
a/n: i play piano and i just wanted a fic for myself lol (NOT PROOF READ / EDITED)
Tumblr media
you tiptoed down the steps, making sure not to wake anyone up. it was in the middle of the night, and you were struggling to sleep. you had a habit of doing something to tire you out whenever this happened, and tonight you felt like playing the piano.
since you’ve been here, no one had heard you play. you admit, you have played in longer than you would like, but why not play now?
you opened the dusty piano lid and all your memories of how to play flooded back. you smiled to yourself and began playing ‘swan lake - tchaikovsky’ as softly as possible. as you played, you no longer felt tired. you forgot about even needing sleep, or the world. your mind was revolved around playing this piece, and to just enjoy yourself.
meanwhile, bo did feel you leave the bed initially, but he assumed you were going to the bathroom. after a while passed, he began getting fidgety, wondering where you were. that question was answered when he heard a piano downstairs. he was half-asleep, so he wasn’t entirely sure if he was dreaming or not, but he was up now and he figured it would be worth checking out.
he walked quietly down the stairs and found you, playing the piano elegantly. when bo saw this, he just froze. he stared at you starry-eyed with pure admiration, like how a child stares.
he thought this sight of you was so attractive, he literally held his breath. when you finished playing, he spoke up, in a small voice.
“that was beautiful.”
when you heard him, you jumped a little. you turned around slowly and saw bo walking towards you with a grin on his face. your cheeks burned, you felt embarrassed. “how long have you been standing there?”
“long enough.” he stood over you and went down onto his knees. he rubbed your thighs affectionately and kissed them lightly. “you should play more. i love hearing the piano.”
your fingers ran through his hair as he continued caressing your legs. “really?”
he nodded and looked up into your eyes with a look of admiration. “i’d do anything to hear you play again.” he got up and kissed your forehead, sitting down on the seat next to you.
he grabbed a very old book of sheet music that was on the piano and flipped to a page. he pointed to a song and turned to you, grabbing your attention.
“teach me.”
and for the rest of the night, neither of you slept. and from here on now, the house was always filled with beautiful music, from either one of you two playing solo, or the two of you duetting together.

notes on a piano
it took me eight years to understand the art behind mashing your fingers on 88 keys and producing sounds.
When I first started playing piano, the only thing I could do was complain about how annoying the pieces were and how stupid playing was because I never got results. But I also learned that enough practice and playing and listening and really feeling the music made me fall in love with my own playing.
I didn't even start feeling any emotions in my pieces until 5 years in. I still remember the moment as clear as day, because it was when I had changed my life. But what happened? My stupid preteen self had just got rejected by the girl I was completely in love with. Then I reworked all the emotions in my angsty teenage heart on the keyboard and my mom started crying. She told me that was the first time she had heard me play with emotions, and it was the most beautiful thing she had heard come out of that piano. Of course I never told her why but I now I always just say, "It was a miracle and I don't know how."
And it all hit me. If "hit me" meant a ripple before a tsunami. I had just changed the decibels on some notes and everything had a whole new meaning. Also the fact that who I thought was my forever soulmate wanted nothing to do with me and more. But the tsunami came later. But maybe it is no longer a tsunami because now we are rising to a higher level.
Four years later I attended a week long piano festival where I met more people who were completely in love with piano. And there I learned more of what the art truly was. The people I had met had unintentionally pushed me into understanding that everyone had their own style. They taught me that practicing can be just as beautiful as well.
The joy that comes from playing, also comes from practicing. It comes from the achievements, the beauty of the melody you hear over and over again, the harmonies, the time, the dynamics. The fact that you are an artist and piano is your art, that is the thing that must be held on to. One can never separate the art from the artist. The ability to sit down and play anything, whenever, and however you want and manipulate the emotions of yourself and those around you; that is all the true art of piano.
