I cried through the entire episode (Sabine wearing her armour, Ahsoka using her reverse grip, Phoenix Squadron, Hera and Jacen and seeing the Ghost in LA for the first time [for a significant period of time], and just how visually stunning this whole episode was), but that ending. Man, as soon as I saw where she was and heard that voice I fucking sobbed. I’ve seen enough, this is the best Star Wars show.

Garazeb Orrelios’ role in the Ghost crew family is the chimera/wild card. He constantly alternates between several roles depending on who he was with when the shit hit the fan.

If he’s with Hera and Kanan (or just Hera) when trouble strikes, he’s the gruff uncle, sternly disapproving alongside mom and dad of whatever shenanigans the kids dragged everyone else into.

If he’s with Ezra and Sabine (or just Sabine), he’s the surly older brother who’s tired of getting into trouble because of his younger siblings and is trying to guess which of mom’s lectures he’s going to receive this time (he always gets the brunt of the blame, so he has her lectures memorized).

If he’s with Ezra alone, he becomes Ezra’s slightly older twin who he shares a single brain cell with.

If he and Kanan are left alone together, he becomes Kanan’s wild best friend/adopted brother. No matter how hard they try not to, they always end up in a Hangover style misadventure because this pair, like him and Ezra, shares few brain cells. They have two or three more than Ezra and Zeb, but the difference is kind of negligible.

And if Chopper is involved, he becomes the exasperated uncle who is just done with everything.

Phoenix Squadron

I was challenged to draw something not Star Wars, and it pulled me into the realm of dragons, phoenixes and Pegasuses. I must admit, drawing this bird was fun and challenging and there will be more. Such stunning creatures to draw.

Grand Admiral Thrawn enters the Chimaera’s brig to interrogate the captured Rebel sympathizer on the whereabouts of the Rebel fleet. The prisoner is Hondo Ohnaka.

Zeb and Sabine paid him to plant alleged misinformation, but in reality, they just wanted the lols of Thrawn having to deal with Hondo and placed bets on how long the admiral would last before rage quitting. Kallus is outside the cell with a chrono; he put fifty credits in the pool for half an hour.

Thrawn: Good day, Captain Ohnaka. I am…

Hondo, seeing an alien in a white Imperial uniform and remembering how xenophobic the Empire is: A white uniform on an alien? I don’t believe it, when did the Empire get room service?

Thrawn: Your attempt at humor will not ease this interrogation.

Hondo, now firmly convinced that Thrawn is a waiter: Eh, perhaps not, but a Corellian ale certainly will! I’ll have three! And perhaps a ruby bliel, that might be nice.

Thrawn, realizing the Hondo is serious: …

Hondo: yes, actually, three ruby bliels, and a Corellian ale, I think. Oh, and you should get some eye drops for yourself. You seem to be a bit sleep deprived, my Pantoran friend!

Thrawn emerges from the cell twenty minutes later.

Thrawn: Agent Kallus?

Kallus, hiding his displeasure at having lost his fifty credits: Yes, Grand Admiral?

Thrawn: Please arrange for the credits we found aboard Ohnaka’s ship to be confiscated and deposited in the Chimaera’s vault.

Hondo, on the verge of hysterics: No, no, not that, I beg of you! I’ll tell you anything, just please don’t spend my credits! Especially not on sweet cakes for your crew!

Thrawn: Belay that order for the moment.

Kallus, trying not to look disappointed: Yes, Admiral.

Kallus sends a brief Fulcrum signal, two dashes. At Chopper base, the two dashes come across the loudspeaker, causing several groans.

Wedge: Alright, Thrawn broke Hondo, and he did in twenty minutes. Who had action on Thrawn outlasting him?

Hera, grinning: That would be me. Hondo would never give up his money, thought it was a safe bet that Thrawn would figure it out quickly.

In reality, she gave Hondo another twenty credits to crack within twenty minutes. Kanan gave her the idea for lols and Rex accepted double his entry fee for his silence.

Also, the entirety of Phoenix Squadron worked overtime to hide the pool’s existence from Ezra.

Sabine’s starbird is a phoenix, as in the Rebels’ very own Phoenix Squadron, which was referenced again in Ahsoka Episode 4.

The Phoenix is an alchemical symbol of rebirth and healing.

“We must recall that the phoenix burns itself periodically to be reborn. Is this merely a reference to the healing process in man or does it have some other significance? Sabine Wren, “the girl who was broken” is about to be healed and made whole, but she must go through the flames first.

I also thought about this recently. Baylan’s line about having to destroy in order to create is important.

It reminds me of this concept from alchemy:

“Solve et coagula is a principle of alchemy meaning ‘dissolve and coagulate.’ According to this principle, a substance must be broken down before it can be built up into something new. Solve refers to this breaking down of elements and coagula refers to their coming together.”
