An Outline of the Reactions of the Bridgerton & Featherington Families walking in on Polin

ANTHONY *He is furious, but a toned down and "lighter" furious than that of what he held with Daphne. He's learned...somewhat, and significantly calmed down since marrying Kate, but "How could Colin do this and compromise Penelope Featherington?!?" [in fact he might go to Kate with these words]; eventually he acts as the older brother and after the harsh, hurtful words and unintentioned insults occur comes the sweet, heartfelt and sentimental moment where he gives advice/attempts to find a solution to any situations needing action.

BENEDICT *doesn't care/finds it amusing; proceeds with all the ammunition-> makes jokes to Colin & 100% roasts him on his cluelessness to, in fact..HELP her find a husband that is not him

ELOISE *ACTUALLY furious!; she is shocked as she never foresaw this coming; grossed out and in need of something to obscure her vision from the nightmare she just witnessed//she will question if Colin is clueless to Pen's secret, and (if she discovers them b4 her and Pen make up,) advise Colin to stay away from such a "snake;" however she will also at some point yell at him for going for her friend as her protective-mode chimes in

FRANCESCA *less severely grossed out; possibly saw it coming, because she's been extra observant the past few months; the worst person next to Benedict to be in possession of this knowledge for the fact that they are not subtle-she makes little comments and snarky remarks in front of Mama Bridgerton and the family that lets the cat out of the bag literally seconds after Colin even presents the prospect of a wedding to them

GREGORY *Shocked/surprised; he is tired of all these intelligent, beautiful women-as if they are not sunshine perfection-falling for his idiotic older brothers (makes that face like when Anthony proposed to Edwina)

HYACINTH *complete disgust, though not surprised... also a tattletale

PORTIA *I think she will be shocked/amazed that her daughter snagged a Bridgerton-and already thinking of the benefits (and plotting next moves), but also has a moment to think back on all the suspicious moments between them that she walked in on where it all just clicks!💡

PHILIPPA *shocked; later annoyed at any family gathering that she's not ½ of the only couple, and secretly jealous about how well they work

PRUDENCE *shocked and loud as hell; Portia will know immediately after she steps foot in whatever room, unless blackmail is involved

KATE *apologizes immediately; startled and unsure if she should excuse herself or take a page from Anthony to her new brother-in-law; her Anthony-like scolding turns to coy smiles and knowing looks in group settings that she walked in on the later engaged couple, that some others are completely unaware to

VIOLET *mortified (on both her end and Colin's) -> turns to reprimanding and lecturing

SIMON *a cross between startlement and a chuckle; he lets out his laugh/smile before the door is even fully halted from opening

DAPHNE *she would be startled and surprised; would scold Colin for compromising Penelope and give him a reminder about judgment and if they were to be found out before marriage; also a heart to heart about love, because she would be the one he'd be able to open up to

non-family:

WILL *laughing all the way back to the boxing ring until he gives his genuine joy that Colin has found his own wife

MADAME DELACROIX *wide-eyed in shock, but then somehow a knowing look that all the while conveys a thought that says "of course"

Actually, wait I want to talk more about the matches the Featherington sisters managed to make for themselves.

So there's a quote I heard a while back that you want your kids to do better for themselves than what you did. Portia while she probably did well for herself socially by what we can infer with marrying up by marrying a baron we also know she was never happy in her marriage. Nor from what we have been shown has she ever really known romantic love. The most love we have seen from Portia is a maternal type of love towards her daughters but even that we have been shown is jaded more than likely due to her experiences from society. We also know she places survival above any emotion, of her daughters, herself, and in a weird way the barony too. Every time we hear her talking about marriage we rarely, if at all, hear her bring up love.

I think Portia succeeded in a way with her daughters ending up better than she did in their marriages. The men her daughters married were not the ideal type she would have ever imagined for them or hoped, but they are also all men her daughters needed to make their lives better. Her daughters are secured like Portia wanted, but they're also happy, and we know at least two are in love. (I'm withholding on prudank until I see them some more) Emotionally they're in a better place than Portia was during her marriage.

In season 1 Daphne said that the first sister married sets the tone for the other sisters and I think we can hold that true for the Featherington sisters.

Philippa was the first one married when she married Mr. Albion Finch. A man who wasn't quite the catch socially even though he is part of the ton but also a man who adores his wife and loves her. We see this trend continue with her sisters.

We should have known that Prudence wouldn't see the altar with Jack Featheringotn, outside of that weird thing he tried with Portia, Jack Featherington did not fit the Feathrington groom mold. Mr. Harry Dankworth, a man who looks like pure sunshine and just happy to be there will definitely be a better match for Prudence. Feel like he can soften her more jaded edges.

Then of course we got Mr. Colin Bridgeton, who we have seen without even having or realizing his romantic interests in Penelope craves her attention, and wants to be like the man she believes him to be. They both are going to push each other to be better versions of themselves and learn to love all parts of one another.

The Featherington sisters' road to marriage isn't quite as grandly dramatic as the Bridgertons. Penelope's being an exception but she's marrying a Bridgerton so there's no escaping that fate. But all their marriages are sweet, happy, and loving, something I feel like each one of them needed.

Weekend Poll Results

This weekend's poll asked who you think will have the Featherington heir, assuming Portia's fraud isn't rumbled.

The results are interesting, but unsurprising.

Prudence: 12.5%

Philippa: 40.6%

Penelope: 46.9%

Whilst I am not surprised that many expect Penelope to be the one to give birth to a boy first, I do find it interesting that so many wish her to remain so strongly connected to the Featherington family. It is possible that her son will have to take the Featherington name, (there is precedence for this), and even if not, once he inherits he will be forever Lord Featherington. I have seen a lot of Penelope fans say how it will be great for her to be a Bridgerton as she escapes the Featherington household, but in the same instance many want her to be dragged back into the Featherington household as the mother of the next Lord Featherington. Very curious.

Also, to debunk a couple of things I have seen online about this.

Even if Penelope has a boy and he is the next Lord Featherington, that will not make Penelope Lady Featherington (or even Lady Bridgerton as some have suggested). Portia will remain Lady Featherington until her death, and then whoever the next Lord Featherington marries will be Lady Featherington, but Penelope will not be.

Colin will not be Lord Featherington - that is his son. Colin will remain Mr Bridgerton (or Mr Featherington if they decide to change their name to be the same as their son).

The Barony will not have a name change and become Bridgerton, so if Penelope has the next Baron Featherington he will not become Baron Bridgerton (and therefore be known as Lord Bridgerton) because that is his father's name. If there has to be a name change it will be the child - and his parents if they do not wish to have a different surname to their son.
