I feel like no one ever talks about this, maybe they do and I'm just not in the right circles idk but if you make screenshot-y posts on here and you just need a place to like make everything the same size or add text or put the same filter on everything the free features on Canva are so much easier to use than anything else I've ever seen recommended or that comes on your computer. they have a lot of fancier features behind a paywall but as far as I can tell you can't run out of free projects or anything and I've always been able to figure out a way to get to the end product I wanted. As someone who isn't exactly interested in photo editing beyond making posts I was tearing my hair out for years trying to use GIMP* and eventually just giving up and never making what I wanted to make and yeah. I just feel like there's kind of an aura of cringe around Canva but the reason a lot of people use it is because it's something a normal person can actually use so put that in your pipe and smoke it I guess. and don't tell me Canva commits war crimes or sells your data to peter thiel to make holograms or something I don't care. not sponsored by canva but if they wanted to sponsor me to make pete campbell appreciation edits I wouldn't hesitate
*most validated I've ever been is seeing a post on here by people who actually do graphic design confirming that gimp is hard to use and bad

Sam Harris: Debating conspiracy theorists, wokeness, Trump, collapse of ...\
COMMENTARY:
The choice this election is between Ayn Rand's Virtue of Selfishness versus Taylor Swift's Generosity of Spirit.  Being is based on the science of Altruism of the  Liberation Gospel of the  Christian centurion of the Italian Cohort of the Praetorian Guard. b Being woke is the defense of altruism in the moral confusion of people like Sam Harris and Noam Chomsky, It's a seminar in sophistry as a contact sport in an Animal House food fight kind of way.
The choice is between a political ;party which considers the Federal Treasury is a  piggy bank for white supremacists like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Glenn Youngkin  and Trump or a party which employs the Federal Government as a capitalist tool in the manner conceived of by the Framers.
I mean, we can do another 4 years jerking off with January 6 bullshit or continue the trajectory of Eisenhower's 1956 Presidential Platform into Starship America, We gave been a cunt hair away from completing Stage 2 of the process to transform the social infrastructure of the Manhattan Project to the Eisenhower-von Braun Star Wars economics of 2001; A Space Odyssey and  Starship America.
The thing is, Biden's Build Back Better capital budget will fully implement Reagan's New Federalism and  will complete Stage 2 and the True Paradigm Shift for Stage 3 is al ready beginning to spool up with Pete Buttigieg's stewardship at Transportation, Back in the day before Reagan, the GOP was full of Jack Kemp  Republicans doing exactly the same thing Pete Buttigieg is doing at Transportation. People like Michael Steele, Mitt Romney and Larry Hogan. Pro-Life women are perverse by definition, However, all things considered, Liza Mikulski is a throw back Republican Pioneer woman, Sarah Palin was the GOP's AOC until Steve Bannon fucked with her mind and turned her into a role model of Moubert et al.
Anyway, if you are a woke voter and you want to wathc Trump's head explode, get out an vote for Nikki Haley when your primary comes up. If you want to take back your school boards and libraries from the neo-Nazi Jesus Freaks,, get out an vote with an outcome in mind and make a difference.
I am an Eisenhower Republican but I vote for what I consider to be good for America, I've always been woke and I picked up from my dad. We are from the woke/League of Nations  side of the Woodrow Wilson Family Tree  , I went to Vietnam on the basis  that a Barack Obama or a Michael Stele would be POTUS during my lifetime, On that basis, I voter for Nixon before I went to Vietnam and I voted for him when I got back. I remain committed to the Nixon-Moynihan Affirmative Action process to construct Stage 2 of Eisenhower's 1956 Presidential Platform  to evolve the economic structures needed to  sustain a lunar colony for 100 years,
We are a cunt hair aways for Stage 3. Trump and January 6 is that cunt hair.  Biden's Build Back Better processes will  dissolve the cunt hair naturally and .by 2028, if not 2026 Midterms, Beginning with all the Banking and securities reforms Elizabeth Warren can conceive of.

Early Facebook investor Peter Thiel is leaving Meta's board
Early Facebook investor Peter Thiel is leaving Meta’s board
Facebook-parent Meta Platforms Inc said on Monday that billionaire investor Peter Thiel, an early investor who has been on the company’s board since 2005, has decided to retire. Thiel aims to spend time helping elect candidates who he believes will advance former President Donald Trump’s agenda in the US midterms, the Congressional elections this year, a person familiar with the situation…

Sources told the publication that Palantir data products will be primary, or even core, to a Health and Human Services project called Protect Now and will pull data from federal, state, and local governments, as well as universities and medical facilities. The purpose of the project is to “mitigate and prevent spread” of the virus, an HHS spokesperson told the site. Palantir’s involvement is likely to raise eyebrows, as Thiel is both its chairman and a prominent Donald Trump supporter who has pledged to support the president’s re-election campaign. He also reportedly was involved in pushing Facebook, where he holds a board seat, to allow political lies in ads, even setting up a meeting between Mark Zuckerberg and Trump at the White House. (Disclosure: Thiel secretly bankrolled a lawsuit that bankrupted Gizmodo’s former parent company, Gawker Media.)
Palantir has contracts with federal law enforcement agencies, most notoriously Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where the company has used its digital profiling tools to enable raids of immigrant communities. It has also helped the National Security Agency with espionage, has contracts with the Pentagon to provide real-time maps and analytics to soldiers in the field, and provided backend support for NYC Office of Special Enforcement crackdowns.
While HHS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have previously been reported to have contracts with Palantir, the Daily Beast reported the Protect Now platform is already being used to brief White House coronavirus task force members like coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx and is slated to be announced this week. Trump himself relies on Birx’s data as part of his ominous plan to end coronavirus shutdowns across the country as soon as possible, sources told the site. A cornerstone of the project is reportedly Palantir’s Foundry platform, which was likely the software licensed in those prior projects, though HHS also signed a separate, $17.3 million contract for a different tool called Gotham on April 10, the Daily Beast reported.
In a statement to the Daily Beast, an HHS spokesperson said the Protect Now platform became operational on April 10 and draws from 187 data sources. That set includes everything from the distribution of medical supplies and demographics to testing data and reports from emergency rooms.

I mean Peter Thiel and Tim Cook and Pete Buttigieg have got the “be gay” part down but whether they’ve tried the “do crimes” part depends on your interpretation of crime; certainly Mayor Pete will undoubtedly commit some crimes against humanity if he gets elected US president, it’s practically obligatory.

Thiel’s private effort to siphon off a natural aristocracy of talent from the doomed universities by plying them with cash and lab time was part of the larger field of NatCon thought. Trump had won the election by feeding the insatiable anti-elitist hunger in the nation. The Clintons had cooperated perfectly. But nationalists and populists have as much need for elites as anyone else. In the first flush of European nationalism, members of the Napoleonic generation found themselves promoted from cannoneers to princes of freshly conquered states. The Third World nationalists who came to power in decolonizing nations in the 1960s had only recently formed a stratum of colonial rule: lawyers, doctors, poets, and soldiers. The trouble now in the United States was that the would-have-been regional ruling class had been sucked out of every corner of the heartland to join the ranks of the global meritocracy, leaving the ranks of the local elite nearly empty. Anyone visiting an Ivy League classroom could encounter twenty bright teenagers from all over the world—a few of them vacuumed out of obscure corners of the U.S.A.—who all spoke the same gradient of English, streamed the same TV series, and believed that they represented diversity. The clever sell of the Pete Buttigiegs and Rory Stewarts of the moment was to at least simulate the return-to-Ithaca drama of a globalist come home to pay regional amends. But what if meritocratic elites in general were the problem? Edmund Burke himself had been notoriously skeptical of them, especially those like himself: better to be governed by half-demented aristocrats with long-standing claims to land and title than by intellectual hustlers who misconstrue their own rocketing social ascent with the lift-off of humanity in general.

Here are a bunch of truly quality photos I found on an old flashdrive of my childhood dog, Macca. He was once a clever stray who lived wild and evaded the dog catcher for 6 whole months before a family friend's kid caught him at the local footy, moochin off people and eating hot chips out of the bins. The kid and his friends named him Macca, cos he was so skinny he looked like he needed a couple big macs.
Mac went on to cause much mayhem and chaos at our place, jumping fences, eating out of bins, plucking the eyes off my soft toys, terrorizing the chickens, begging food off the neighbours, and generally being a terrible nuisance.
I once caught him standing on the table eating mum's dinner.
He became the only thing Molly the demon rabbit was afraid of.
He came home with an entire leg of lamb, probably off some poor wretch's bbq.
He got loose, tried to follow me to school, got hit by a car and broke his leg (this was 2 weeks after we got him), the vet pinned it with external metal pins that had to be cleaned daily and cost over 1000 bucks when poor mum just expected a cast, and THEN she caught him jumping the fence with it.
She told me she cried out "Macca!" In despair, and he just... jumped back.
After it healed he would pretend it hurt whenever he wanted food or was in trouble. Only issue was he'd always forget which leg.
In later years he'd established a routine, and would do the rounds of all his favourite neighbours getting treats. We befriended most of them through Macca. Our immediate neighbours, Pete and Natalie, were retired and loved him so much they would specifically cook him sausages on their weekly Friday bbq. Pete used to take him fishing down the river, and wash him for us if he got smelly. Which we were grateful for, especially since the moment he even suspected we were thinking of bathing him he was gone. He wouldn't come back till dark. We attempted to wash him in the bath once, but he just went completely limp. Boneless. Almost impossible to lift.
Other neighbours, Mr and Mrs Thiele, had him over for Christmas and gave him gifts. After Mrs Thiele passed, he continued to go over there for Christmas every year.
Mrs Harrop gifted him a big velvet dog bed, and when she would defrost her freezer she would cook him the old steak and chops out of it. It was her fancy elevated bird bath he loved to sit in. She found it hysterical.
I once went out looking for him down the river at 11 at night, because he hadn't come home. I called and called and there was no sign. On my way back I heard something. Chewing? I spotted the black silhouette of a dog outside Mrs Harrop's sliding doors, and in a low angry voice said
"Macca?!"
I saw the head come up and the ears go down.
He then shot off through the darkness at full speed, and by the time I got home he was in the laundry lying in his day bed, as though he'd never been anywhere else.
I remember overhearing a friend of my aunty's talking about a Christmas party she attended, where a dog turned up out of nowere and was being fed prawn heads and treats by the party goers. She said at the end they gave it the bones off the spit roast and he left carrying them. I butted in and asked where the party was, and if the dog was large and black and tan.
We'd wondered where he got those bones from.
When Macca passed away, the neighbours gathered to say goodbye. That weekend Pete drove a couple hours to his brother's house to get a specific woodworking tool, so he could make Macca a lovely cross for his grave. Despite all of his very naughty antics, he was very loved, and is still very missed.

40th Folk Festival spotlights rich, diverse culture of Louisiana

NATCHITOCHES – The audience at the 40th annual Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival held on July 26-27 was entertained and educated about the rich and diverse cultural offerings of the state. The Festival featured traditional Louisiana foods, Kidfest activities, music, traditional crafts, narrative sessions, musical informances, and cultural exhibits. This year’s Festival theme “Vive la Louisiane!” was a great success, with a very happy audience.
The Festival opened with a rousing dance, beginning with Cajun dance lessons, followed by Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, and the night closed out with Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band. Side stage performances included Natchitoches gospel group Joyful Sounds, 50 Man Machine, which includes NSU faculty Paul Forsyth, Collier Hyams, and Oliver Molina, and an open jam with Max & Marcy, Ed Huey, and Cane Mutiny.
Saturday’s events included performances in Prather Coliseum by 50 Man Machine, Creole la la with Goldman Thibodeaux and the Lawtell Playboys, the Louisiane Vintage Dancers, Brandy Roberts, the Rayo Brothers, Tab Benoit, Jamie Berzas & the Cajun Tradition Band, the Stewart Family and Friends Bluegrass Band, line dance lessons by the Cajun French Music Association Dance Troupe, the Canneci N’de Band of Lipan Apache, zydeco dance lessons by Avila Kahey, Wayne & Same Ol’ 2 Step, Hardrick Rivers and the Rivers Revue Band, Celtic Music with the Kitchen Session of Baton Rouge and a jam session with Max and Marcy.
In addition to stage performances there were narrative sessions and music informances, including conversations about American songwriting, culture & costumes of 19th century Louisiana, Tab Benoit’s The Voice of the Wetlands Fondoution, and the musical journey of Vanessa Niemann (aka Gal Holiday). Also featured was a music informance by Tab Benoit. Outdoor activities included demonstrations by the Central Louisiana Dutch Oven Cookers, the Red River Smiths, the Southern Stock Dog Association, and Wash Day, presented by the West Baton Rouge Museum. This year the Festival continued a series of free workshops for Festival attendees. Festival goers attended a Cajun accordion workshop by Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont.
The annual Louisiana State Fiddle Championship was also held on Saturday in the Magale Recital Hall as part of the Festival. Fiddle Championship judges included Steve Birdwell, Steve Harper, Henry Hemple, and Clancey Stewart. The new Louisiana Grand Champion is Ron Yule of DeRidder. Second place winner was Joe Suchanek of Merryville, with Owen Meche of Arnauldville placing third. Meche also took first place in the 21 and under championship division.
Suchanek took first in the 60 and up championship division, with Yule coming in second, Birgit Murphy of Opelousas in third, Mark Young of Balise in fourth, Wilfred Luttrell of DeRidder in fifth, and Ron Pace of Alexandria in sixth. Luttrell and Yule also took first place in the twin fiddles competition.
As the new Louisiana State Fiddle champion, Yule also performed on the main stage in Prather Coliseum. Dr. Lisa Abney managed the fiddle championship. Dr. Susan Roach from Louisiana Tech University emceed the championship.
Four musicians and a renowned filé maker were inducted into the Louisiana Folklife Center’s Hall of Master Folk Artists. Inductees included Louisiana Music Hall of Famer Tab Benoit, who also served as honorary Festival Chair, Cajun musicians Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont, filé maker John Oswald Colson, and country singer Vanessa Niemann.
Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center, led the induction ceremony, assisted by State Representative Kenny Cox and Dustin Fuqua, Chief of Resource Management at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. In addition, the honorary award of Folklife Angel was given to long-time Festival crew chief James Christopher Callahan, an NSU alumnus.
In addition to 4 book signings and 8 exhibits by such groups as state parks and archives, over 70 craftspeople displayed their traditional work on Saturday. These craftspeople demonstrated and discussed their work with the Festival patrons. Craftspeople displayed accordion making, beadwork, baskets, Czech Pysanky eggs, filé making, flintknapping, folk art, knives, music instruments, quilting, pottery, spinning & weaving, tatting, walking sticks, whittling and needlework, wood carving, and more. 8 food vendors provided a cornucopia of traditional Louisiana foods to the Festival audience.
Support for the Louisiana State Fiddle Championship and the Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival was provided by grants from the Cane River National Heritage Area, Inc., the Louisiana Division of the Arts Decentralized Arts Fund Program, the Louisiana Office of Tourism, the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, and the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
Much needed support also came from generous sponsorships from Acme Refrigeration of Baton Rouge, C&H Precision Machining, Chili’s, City Bank & Trust, the City of Natchitoches, Cleco, John Clifton Conine, Atty; CP-Tel, Domino’s Pizza, the Donut Hole, El Patron, Family Medical Clinic, Grayson’s Barbecue, Hardee’s, the Harrington Law Firm, D. Seattle Seahawks Take the Long Road Back From a Hard Super Bowl Loss
Tumblr media
Fulbright scholar Nichole Thiel has served in higher and secondary education. During the pro football season, Nichole Thiel pulls for the Seattle Seahawks. After their first Super Bowl appearance (a loss in 2005), the Seahawks overwhelmed the Denver Broncos to win the National Football League title in 2013. However, their return to the Superbowl in 2014 resulted in a tough loss because of an untimely interception by the New England Patriots. The defeat cast a shadow over the team’s spirit, despite winning records. However, morale rebounded in 2018, thanks in part to head coach Pete Carroll’s return to the club’s unglamorous but effective combination of a running offense and a strong defense. Also lifting the gloom have been the presence of Super Bowl stalwarts, such as Russell Wilson, Justin Britt, and K. J. Wright, who mentor the newcomers. To boost his own spirits, veteran Bobby Wagner draws inspiration from LeBron James, still excellent after 16 seasons. Wagner encourages the young players to enjoy themselves without comparisons to past heroes. The new looseness paid off. The Seahawks ended the season by accumulating 10+ wins for the sixth time in seven years, placing second in the National Football Conference West division.

Hollywood is dying a slow death.
The adrenochrome drip has stopped & so has the production budgets.
CCP & fake fiat Fed money are cut off too.
The only ones cutting checks are the tech streamers (Apple, Amazon, Netflix & a few of the major studios).
The rest are working with crumbs.

Tag game shipping edition
I consider myself tagged by @greenapricot . Thanks ;)
First ship you ever read a fic for: I'm not sure, if it was Sharon/Andy (Major Crimes) or Timmy/Russel (Rules of Engagement). I feel like that was such a long time ago. But I'd like to add that both ships became more or less canon...
First ship you ever wrote a fic for: J.Barnaby/B.Jones (Midsomer Murders)
Ship you write most now: J.Barnaby/B.Jones (Midsomer Murders) but I also wrote a bit of Lewis/Hathaway (Lewis) quite recently, although no one was allowed to read that yet. Ok, I actually have it all outlined. It's going to be a 3 Part series. ...coming soon on Ao3 and fanfiction. net. XD
Ship you read most now: That's hard to tell. It's probably quite close between Lewis/Hathaway (Lewis) and Thiel/Boerne (Tatort Münster)
Newest ship: Morse/DeBryn (Endeavour)
Rare ship you want to read more of: Are there even any fics at all with Danny (New Tricks) in them? *dramatical sigh*
Your taboo ship: Myka/Pete (Warehouse 13) They are best friends and it just feels so wrong and they have no chemistry in that way at all and it just makes me mad. Why did they make this canon? WHY?
They never met in canon ship: None.
Your unexpected ship: Mycroft/Anthea (BBC Sherlock) It just sorta happened after accidently reading some extremely well-written fics.
The ship you always forget to give love to: I'm equally obsessed with all my ships.
Your most romantic ship: Martin/Louisa (Doc Martin) They. Are. So. Cute.
A ship you are embarrassed to ship: *cough* phan *cough*. Don't ever talk to me about this. I. feel. horrible. Forgetthatyoureadthis.
Ship your OC with a canon character: Elyas and John? Audrey and Ben? It was supposed to feel cringey...
Your sexiest ship: Will/Hannibal (Hannibal)
Your most tragic ship: Camille/Richard (Death in Paradise) I cried so damn hard.
So many ships and I couldn't even put all of my favourites on this list. :/
I'll tag @theslytherinof221b , @astargatelover and @sicknessglory Do it if you like to, if you haven't done so already and I hope you'll have as much fun as I had.
And I'm also tagging everyone else, who wants to do this.
