My cat just sat on my lap and I'm emotional

For those wondering why: My cats have been with me for two and a half years. I got them from the shelter, and they were - SO scared. Still are sometimes. Their previous "owner" and I use that term with derision, had the genius idea to become a breeder, got seven female cats, they all got pregnant and gave birth around the same time, and he had - what, twenty kittens? And instead of selling those, he sudennly realized that that is too much work, and set about rounding all of them up and disposing of them.

My cats are two of six kittens who survived. They HATED humans. Touching was a no-go. One of them hid under my couch for two weeks during the day. I couldnt pet either of them for over four months. And while they have grown very close to me and trust me a lot, they never even so much as put a paw on my leg when I sat down, or walked across me. I guess it would have made them feel trapped? So I let them decide how much touch was okay.

So imagine me holding my breath when my cat suddenly put one paw on my leg, then the other, and then climbed straight into my lap to curl up there and fall asleep purring

Well, my pocket friends, I want to share something with you if you would like to receive it. No hard feelings if you don't. I still love you just the same.

TW: Medical/health things

As many of you know, this year has been a series of medical setbacks - five hospital admissions for my asthma, currently one severely sprained ankle, and now something pretty scary.

The c-word. Yes, that c-word. I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer recently, something that I was not expecting at 38. I am meeting with an oncologist next week, and will most likely be scheduling a hysterectomy for next month. I've been told that if you're going to get cancer this is the one to get, for what that's worth. We are hoping it is stage 1 and I won't require anything beyond surgery.

I'm sharing this for a couple of reasons. One, I want you to know that so many of you and your writing have provided me a soft place to land when things get tough, and I appreciate that more than you will ever know. A special thanks to my roommate Eri who is helping me navigate all of this. <3

Second, and much more importantly, I want to urge you to get your annual exams if you are a uterus/vagina haver. We caught this because I was due for my yearly exam- my only complaint was some abnormal bleeding, and that's it. I believe that this early detection will be life-saving for me, and I hope that if (god forbid) something happens to you that you can catch it early too.

If you have questions about an exam, or you're nervous or scared to go, I am here. There are a PLETHORA of amazing resources online as well. No one likes it, but it's so needed. It's quick and it saves lives.

I am having all the feelings, sometimes all at once, and I debated sharing this so publicly. But maybe one of you needs a sign to go get checked out by your doctor. So this is it, ok? This is your sign.

Love you all. Take care of yourselves. I am determined that I will be alright.

2023 has been a pretty tough year for me personally. Shoutout to @freeuselandonorris and @zeraparker for keeping me sane, indulging me in endless discussions about writing and ships (and let's face it, porn), and for their company in Berlin and London.

The above photo I took of Max G in Berlin is probably my favourite (racing related) moment of the year (apart from the bizarre situation in London where we accidentally ended up on a Jaguar garage tour with a bunch of JLR employees, getting thanked for all our hard work by James Barclay) and spawned around 70k words of fic (wtffff)

Honourable mention also goes to the moment I stood up to get off my flight from Hamburg to London and realised I'd been sitting on the same row, one seat away, from Sacha and Norman and was so exhausted I hadn't even noticed.

It has its flaws but I love FE and I'm so excited for it to be back.

I have cats which are weirdly fixated on keeping me in a fixed, healthy time schedule.

Like, other cats I know yell when there is not enough food, they want you to open a door for them etc.

My cats? Yell at me when it is supposedly time for me to eat (so breakfast, lunch and dinner), yell at me when I don't finish home office on time, and yell at me when I don't go to bed. Yell A LOT when I get up when I'm ill.

Somehow I have acquired service cats

Lil' announcement/update/information? 🤔😅🙈

First, I'd like to explain the lack of... content on here a bit. 😅 Work has been awufully stressful lately, causing me to unfortunately have not much time to write. I'm truly sorry for that, but sometimes life just gets in the way. I hope y'all can understand this. ☺️

Next this is, I'll be quite inactive the next few days. I'm going on a much needed vacay with a friend from Wednesday on, so... ☺️ I think I need a few days off. Not just from work, but, uh, from life itself. ☺️

There are a lot of fics I haven't read yet, but definitely will! @smolvenger I promise you, I'll catch up! Just like I will on your wonderful stories @muddyorbsblr and @fictive-sl0th ! ☺️

I also know, that my masterlist is quite a bit broken and that a lot of links aren't working properly. I promise, I'm going to fix that as soon as I can. Perhaps tomorrow, perhaps after my holidays. We'll see. But I'll definitely do it, without a doubt! ☺️
