–We first saw you at Battle in the Valley in San Jose, where you attacked Shota Umino. You haven’t been a part of AEW since the summer; why did you choose to come to NJPW?

Perry: Well Japan for me is an opportunity, not to start over, but start a new chapter without having to apologise or pretend to be sorry for the actions of other people. It’s a way that I can stay true to myself and continue to grow despite everything that’s gone on.

–After you targeted Shota Umino in San Jose, you ripped up your AEW contract. What was going through your mind in that moment?

Perry: Ripping that contract was a declaration ‘I’m not playing by your rules anymore’. If (AEW) are too afraid to have me anymore, if the spectre of Jack Perry is too much, they don’t want to deal with the conversations, the ramifications that brings, then that’s fine.

–Certainly your last moments in AEW were very controversial.

Perry: I don’t need them. I will go by myself across the world, all by myself, without any of my friends, without any of the things I’m used to, anything that’s been my life for the last five years, and I’ll do it on my own, make my own way.

–So with that in mind, can we say you’re no longer AEW’s Jack Perry? Are you NJPW’s Jack Perry? A freelancing Jack Perry? Or HOUSE OF TORTURE’s Jack Perry?

Perry: Some of these things are unclear even to me, but I would say this- loyalty is a two way street, and I show loyalty to those who are loyal to me. As of now, certain parties have been very good to me, and I intend to repay that.

The only reason you ever do anything for other people is to get something in return

–Why of all people would you target Shota Umino when you made your first steps in NJPW?

Perry: The thing about Shota is there are a lot of similarities between him now and who I used to be. He’s a young guy, a good looking guy. And I can see when I look at him that he’s really doing everything he does for the people. The only reason you ever do anything for other people is to get something in return.

–Shota Umino was labelled last year as one of the ‘Reiwa Three Musketeers’, not unlike how AEW positioned you as one of its ‘Four Pillars’.

Perry: Yeah, I was a golden boy once, I was a ‘pillar’ if you will. I really let other people’s perceptions of me guide my actions. But at the end of the day I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted to. I realised I was never going to perform optimally if I was worried about the expectations of other people. That’s the position he’s in right now. If he was to be honest with himself, he’s not getting the results that he wants to have. The moment he realises that it’s other people’s expectations that are holding him down, he will be way better off for it.

–How do you feel about Shota Umino’s connections to Jon Moxley? 

Perry: It’s interesting that even though we’ve worked in the same company, I’ve never crossed paths in the ring with Jon Moxley. He’s pretty much universally respected, somebody that calls himself the Ace of the World, and there’s a good case for that. But when it comes to him and Shota… From personal experience, I used to have a mentor, and there’s a lot you can get from that, but at a certain point there are things you can’t figure out unless you’re on your own. He needs to have the balls to step away from the comfort of someone who’s been around much longer and can lay the foundations for you. I’m sure he’s benefitted a lot from Moxley. Let’s see what you’ve got when it’s just you.

I’m not shying away from the blame

–Can you sum up exactly what the ‘Scapegoat’ name means to you?

Perry: I think it’s ingrained in human nature to be afraid of blame, and the disapproval of others. At the end of the day, that’s weakness. That’s a weak mindset, a weak soul. If you know the truth, what good is the opinion of other people? If you know the truth, you have power. I’m not shying away from the blame. If you need me to be the Scapegoat because you don’t have the bravery to stand up for your own actions, then that’s fine. I’m man enough to take that blame from all of us and I’m not going to shy away from it. 

–Certainly anyone who joins HOUSE OF TORTURE has to be comfortable with accepting blame and hate. Did you feel a connection to H.O.T, or did you simply feel that you wanted to be with the most hated faction in professional wrestling?

Perry: I wasn’t really expecting what’s come about, but I’m certainly not upset about it. I almost feel comfortable here now. Being one of if not probably the most hated wrestlers in North America, as I start a new chapter in Japan, why not pick up as I left off? As I said, people, especially where I came from, are afraid. They don’t want to confront what’s looking at them in the eyes. These guys aren’t afraid. They deal with all this sh*t from people every day. I respect that. Deal with it, move forward and be who you want to be, not what people expect you to be. 

–Ren Narita has taken a very similar path to your own, connected to Shota Umino and now in HOUSE OF TORTURE. Do you feel a lot in common with him?

Perry: Definitely Ren and I have shared a similar path. I’ve been in a few teams in my career, and there’s a lot you can get from a good partner, a lot you can learn about yourself. but at the end of the day, everyone has to make the decision to bet on themselves. I respect that he had the confidence and the balls to make the decision he had to make.

The reaction I know I’m going to get is exactly what this is all about

–Narita has said that HOUSE OF TORTURE represents ‘true Strong Style’, which is an opinion a lot of fans take issue with. Coming from outside, what does the idea of Strong Style mean to you?

Perry: I would say HOUSE OF TORTURE represents what I understand Strong Stye to be. I think at the start of my wrestling career I was so caught up in this idea of ‘virtue’ of following the rules and doing what it is you’re supposed to do. I’ve seen first hand more than anyone, what does any of that really matter? People in real life can’t tell a good guy from a bad guy when they’re staring them right in the face. The most important thing is whether or not you’re successful. Instead of sacrificing yourself for these morals you think are so important, sometimes it’s being underhanded that gets you where you want to be.

 –You defeated Umino in Ota at Anniversary, and now it’s a direct rematch in Chicago. There’s no doubt you’ll be public enemy number one there. What do you expect to be different in this rematch April 12?

Perry: I imagine people think I’ll be off my game in Chicago, and they couldn’t be more wrong. I’m absolutely thrilled to be back in the Windy City. The reaction that I know I’m going to get is exactly what this is all about. I’ve made it very clear that I’m not going to apologise to anybody, and I won’t pretend that things didn’t go down the way they did. I can’t wait to be in front of all these people who think they know what it’s all about, hearing what they think of me. I’ll be in my home country, but it doesn’t feel like my home anymore. So Shota, come over, give me your best shot, but if you think it’s going to be any easier, you’re sadly mistaken.

You’re gaining clarity on something in your life that’s been start/stop, for most of you this is pertaining to someone you’ve been dating. There are Aces and The Magician here, it didn’t go too far and barely even started before it was stopped altogether, this other person slammed on the brakes and shocked the hell out of you. You’ve been waiting around to see if they’re going to reconcile and you seem to be getting the information you needed or whatever was missing before. They definitely had another person or people involved with them, 5 Wands shows competition, whether you knew that or not.

As fast as it began, it ended. If you were friends before it tried to go further, it looks like that ended too, and it caused a Tower for you, possibly changed your life or perspective if the two of you had been close before this. Some of you may have been in a group of friends that fell apart after the fact as well. Whatever feelings there were don’t seem to be reciprocated. One person was offering Ace of Cups and the other didn’t say so, but they felt Ace of Wands rev…lack of passion, lack of a spark, it just wasn’t there for them, but they didn’t say anything and just left you hanging wondering if they were gonna change their mind or come back around. Love could have scared them off, it’s a situation of spilling your feelings and the other person runs away, sadly. The Magician here shows you having all of the tools and circumstances you need to create the life or relationship you want for yourself, but you have to leave this person behind first, and that’s the advice. They could have lied to you, or at least stopped talking to you, and for that they deserve for you to walk away. There’s something better coming along when you release & let go of this person and situation.

Kerry Morton questioned Starboy about his commitment to The Southern 6 following last week when Marcus Mathers dragged Alex Taylor back to the ring setting up Taylor to be pinned by Giant Baba Yaga. Charlie reminded Kerry Morton that Starboy isn't a member of the Southern 6 and that they had something good going in CORE before Kerry brought Silas Mason and Alex Taylor here. But Starboy said this isn't about Morton choosing The Southern 6 over their faction. And this isn't about Starboy choosing Marcus Mathers over Kerry Morton. Starboy said it's about him choosing himself. With that Charlie walked off the set where Marcus Mathers could be seen waiting for him.

Tim Bosby vs. "King Of Jersey Shore" Zack Clayton Tim Bosby defeated Zack Clayton with a rip cord lariat.

- Shaw Mason and Hunter Holdcraft made their way to ringside after the match. Bosby asked Mason when this was going to stop. Mason said that last week during a tag match against The Andersons, Hunter Holdcraft knocked a foreign object out of Brock Anderson's hand, and instead of picking that weapon up Hunter kicked it out of the ring. Mason said that yes, they almost lost the match because of the time Hunter spent making that decision, but that in that moment Mason gained some perspective on the value of doing things the right way. Shaw Mason admitted that while he still believes Bosby cheated in their first match, he couldn't prove it, so during their match on Thanksgiving Shaw planted the foreign object on Bosby to frame him. Bosby thanked Shaw Mason for finally telling the truth, but that he also has something to confess. Bosby said Shaw was right, he did cheat during their first match and he also cheated in his match against Tom Lawlor. Shaw Mason told Bosby that he admired his honesty, but what he admired even more was his competitive spirit. Mason said when he saw Holdcraft debate picking up that weapon but deciding not to, and that all that accomplished was almost costing them the match, he realized that he doesn't want to be partners with some goody two shoes that is afraid to do whatever it takes to win. Mason said that he wants the match on Christmas night against The 37KAMIINA, but that he needs a man with guts like Bosby re-join him in folkstyle so they can beat the 2023 Trios Kingdom winners. Hunter Holdcraft interrupted, saying that he has no idea what has gotten into Shaw and Bosby, but folkstyle can't have a trios match because he wants nothing to do with either of them. Bosby said that's alright, because he has the perfect replacement member in mind already. Mason told Bosby he should have said that sooner, and the two men attacked Hunter Holdcraft. Mason and Bosby each grabbed a leg and applied the ankle lock to Holdcraft until Giant Baba Yaga and Fuego Del Sol made the save.

Unlike yesterday where I was on shitty stow for the entire day, today I immediately got pulled aside and sent straight down to shipping. I could have French kissed this guys penis right then and there because I’m now at the stage where doing any amour of stowing just fucks with my head. Although I’m happy that I’m apparently getting moved to shipping full time I imagine that I will occasionally have to go back on stow when they’re low on staff. For six weeks last Christmas I did no stowing at all as I was needed on pack so I imagine that when Christmas comes around this year (assuming the Russians haven’t taken over and replace Christmas with whatever their version of Christmas is…Putinmas I imagine) I will be sent from shipping to pack once again but that’s fine with me since pack and shipping are my two favourite processes. To be honest I’m surprised that they haven’t moved me from stow to another process already since my rates on pack are always significantly higher than my rates on stow. It makes me think back to school where they kept badgering me about focusing on my English, Maths and Science and I kept on pointing out to them that I was only on track to get a D- in all three of these subjects but in Food Technology I was on track to getting a D+ so why not just let me focus all my energy on that? They didn’t bite…and I ended up getting an F in all four subjects anyway.

I had to avoid the internet all day so I wouldn’t have the results from Forbidden Door spoiled but it was worth it because AEW and New Japan put on a hell of a show last night. I never thought I’d say it. It MJF really carried Tanahashi in their title match. Tanners is really starting to show his age and the extent of the injuries to his knees since MJF had to slow down to accommodate The Ace and at certain points had to make himself look bad by selling for moves that Tanners could only put half of his energy into. Unless Tanahashi takes some time off to get his knees looked at then I’m afraid to say don’t think he’s ping for the squared circle.  Punk vs Kojima was really entertaining and Punk did a good job of playing up to the hostile crowd. I think he’s accepted that certain people are just going to see him as the bad guy and rather than just ignore it like Cena and Roman Reigns he’s just going to go with it which I think is the right move. Sanada vs Jungle Boy Jack Perry was entertaining enough burnout still looked out of place to have an upper midcarder just be rewarded with a title shot because he was the first to public ally accept an open challenge (even if it was clear he wasn’t going to win the belt). Luckily though it all worked out for Jack as they had him turn on Hook after the match solidifying his heel turn. I think this was definitely the best move as his character has felt stale for a while and there has definitely an audible fan backlash for a while now so I think it was for the best to have him embrace the hate and go a different direction with his character. This will be the true test of whether he truly benefited from the tutelage of Christian Cage. The Elite vs BCC ten man tag match was great with plenty of drama although it looks like the feud between these two factions is still going to continue which is starting to make my dick itch because this feud should have ended a while back…in fact I dare say the BcC should have ended a while back because Regal isn’t even there anymore. Ospreay vs Kenny Omega (who I’ve recently realized is the spot of British comedian Seann Walsh) was amazing. Fully deserving of the seventeen stars Meltzer is inevitably going to award it. I especially liked the ending of Callis helping Ospreay win because it gives Ospreay some added heat for when he returns to Japan and also helps set up the Omega vs Takeshita feud. Sting, Darby and Naito vs Jericho, Guevara and Suzuki was predictably disappointing. Naito has been Randy Ortoning it for a few years now and I wouldn’t be surprised if he called it quits before long. Sting messed up a few spots and as much as it pains me to say it I think it’s a good think he’s hanging it up this year. When he first came to AEW I enjoyed it because although he could only do the basics he could still bump but now he can’t even do that anymore. Finally Okada vs Bryan Danielson was everything longtime fans of both athletes were hoping it would be and more. Some great technical mat work, lots of close calls with both almost hitting their finish and both men going out of their way to make the other look good. Sadly it looks like Danielson suffered a broken arm in this match but he managed to finish the match because of course he did and it looks like he’ll only be out for a few weeks.

Why: Charlie is very cunning, he uses anything to his advantage. He could also be a Gryffindor because he ultimately doesn't fear anything. But his cunningness overpowers his bravery.

Chris Noel: Hufflepuff

Why: Chris' Hogwarts house is 100% Hufflepuff. She's super kind and loyal and yellow is her favorite color ever. She definitely would rule Herbology and not do very well in Potions.

Gerard Pitts: Hufflepuff.

Why: Gerard is very loyal and kind to all his friends. He makes sure everyone is alright before taking care of himself.

Knox Overstreet: Gryffindor.

Why: Knox is brave, he isn't afraid to do what he sets his mind to and its evident in his actions. He will protect his friends, although he could've been a Hufflepuff.

Why: Neil isn't scared to stand his ground, he bravely defined his father and his wishes to not be in the play. Although he could also be a Hufflepuff.

Steven Meeks: Ravenclaw.

Why: Steven is creative and extremely smart. He creates his own radio and aces all his class work and has amazing grades! He is clever and thinks outside the box.

Todd Anderson: Hufflepuff.

Why: Do I have to explain? Although debatably he could be the "Neville Longbottom" of the group. His loyalty to his friends overpowers. He loves and cares for everyone that he considers a friend. He is also extremely brave but Hufflepuff fit him the best.
