Hey here's an angle on the Jiang family dynamic and its impact on Wei Wuxian that I haven't seen discussed:
Wei Wuxian grew up seeing Jiang Yanli routinely having her agency cut off and denied in both large (betrothal) and small ways. That were largely tied up in her gender, sure, but this was also a family containing Yu Ziyuan. A daughter in this household had every chance of having her gender treated as of secondary importance.
She just had to earn it.
The way Jiang Yanli was hemmed in and her potential as an independent actor dismissed was at least as strongly correlated with her failure to be a powerful sword cultivator.
So Wei Wuxian's total refusal to let anyone know that he'd lost access to his cultivation and his violent reactivity against being diminished or condescended to during his Sunshot-to-death period, when before he was pretty immune to being looked down on, could have a lot to do with having been presented with this clearly labeled diagram of how your personhood gets stripped away when you are, by the standards of your society, disabled.

self shippers that wear pads: there is nothing wrong with wearing pads. your f/os don't care, your f/os don't judge you. i know sometimes i get self conscious, i sometimes think people can see the bulk of a pad or people can hear the crinkling of a pad, and even if your f/o can, they don't care. whatever your reason for choosing pads over tampons or cups, you are valid in that and your f/o respects it. periods are hard enough and your f/o wants you to be as comfortable as possible.

In a world where menstruation huts exist, 1 in 5 girls miss school because of their periods in a 1st world country (America), 23 million girls drop out of school in India because of their periods, 1 in 10 women are affected by endometriosis, yet only a fraction will get diagnosed and so many other terrible statistics that show the shame, poverty and lack-of-education that surrounds menstruation in today's world, saying that only biological females can have a period, is not offensive.
Because guaranteed, if men could have periods, we wouldn't have these statistics, we wouldn't have these traditions and we wouldn't have the level of shame that exists.

I need all the anti feminist girlies to realize that most of the reasons their lives are difficult is because of late stage capitalism and the still existing system of patriarchy, not feminism.

I think the reason so many immature cishet dudes love to talk about vaginas and breasts and sex but get deeply uncomfortable when things like periods, birth control, pregnancy, breastfeeding and other such topics are brought up is because they view those body parts as something that’s for them. If vaginas and breasts aren’t just a magical sex playground but rather normal body parts that roughly half the world has, it forces them to think about AFAB people as people, and that makes them uncomfortable.

anne rice is actually an inspiration to me because you can tell by some of her writing that she has the range and capability for beautifully written and extremely evocative prose but then sometimes you can literally feel her give up and put zero effort into entire portions of her books and honestly i kinda respect that
