YALL. i’m so excited about this that i’m not gon do a fancy introduction!!
one of the colognes elvis wore, often in the 50s, was lenel for men. i have a bottle of it, and it’s absolutely delightful! the official notes aren’t written anywhere, but to me it smells like flowers with a classic cologne undertone and bit of baby powder!
now, i got a new bottle of perfume today: wild musk by coty. i never smelled it or anything, but it’s been around since 1972. figured it was worth a shot!
i opened the bottle, took a lil sniff, and immediately went “what does this smell like that i already own?”
…IT SMELLS LIKE THE FUCKING FEMININE VERSION OF ELVIS’ COLOGNE.
tldr; i’m gon make a post on all the colognes and perfumes related to elvis for my friends that also associate scent with memory <3
(tagging people i think would appreciate this or could give their two cents): @kiankiwi @mooodyblue @lookingforrainbows @alienelvisobsession @arianatheangel-girl @hooked-on-elvis

Me finishes the new mobile banner, uploaded it and accidentally came across an old WIP theme from last year that has draggable windows so it'll work for all resolutions across the board. So guess what I'm doing.

Marie Museenkuss Library Day essentials📕🦢✨
BAG PACK [white Levi’s]. laptop & case (hence the bag pack). Diogenes notebook small. pencil. red umbrella. cat eye sunglasses. emergency pad & emergency single use cleaning wipe for my glasses. books to return (possibly). a healthy little snack (grapes, apple slices). an unhealthy little snack (Kinder Riegel). a few stray perfume testers
EXTRA TOTE [usually a Moomin shop tote]. wallet. bag of toiletries. something to read while on the underground. water bottle. Mio Mio Ginger or coke (cherry, vanilla, zero) or Sinalco (Mio Mio ginger is my all time favourite but the glass bottle is so heavy that I oftentimes decide against it)

I might be.. allergic or just sensitive to the smell of my new water mixable oil paints. 🤦
which wouldn't be that surprising since I'm sensitive to a lot of scents/perfume type stuff (don't know if it's an allergy yet, it just makes my nose and the area around it burn and stuff.)
buuut that is pretty damn disappointing. I didn't want to try regular oil paint because I figured that wouldn't work well for me. ugh. I'll keep using them tonight and see if it gets any better (or worse)

i bought two tiny 1ml perfume samples. i got concrete by comme des garcons, which ive seen described as "like an art classroom" and like walking in a business district or under a mossy overpass, and then tam dao from diptyque, which is described as indian sandalwood, which isnt a scent i really like irl but we'll see how it goes
i've been wearing deathandfloral's art school dropout recently - the site describes it as wet clay, car exhaust, paint water, pencil shavings. it felt fitting, i don't draw anymore and i work in a car factory. when i tried it on at first i didn't like it bc it just felt waxy and sweet. but now after wearing it a few times i really like it - it starts off sweet and chemical and i definitely get the car exhaust note, which then turns more woody and mineral, which i guess is the clay/paint and pencil shavings. inexplicably it does smell strongly like lime after a while
i think i want a good death/graveyard/etc scent but a lot of the death related perfumes i see are WAIT LUSH BROUGHT BACK KERBSIDE VIOLET POST CANCELLED

I think it could be fun to make a small perfumery/scent notes table for fanfic authors. I think most of the time the classic "they smelled like ______ and ______" is more of an atmosphere building tool than a literal description, which is great. Also a lot of the time, i get the sense that characters aren't necessarily meant to be wearing a perfume. But it seems like it would be cool to have the option of referring to a list of scent notes that includes scent descriptions, popular combos, maybe something like date/place of origin. Plus it would be an outlet for my perfume obsession that doesn't involve me spending all my money. Perfume nation how are we feeling

Santal 33 by Le Labo
Tumblr media
Notes from Description:
Top: violet accord, cardamom. Middle: iris, ambrox. Base: cedarwood, leather, sandalwood.
My Review:
Sandalwood scents are very hit or miss to me. I always fear that I'll end up smelling like my mother or *gasp!* a resident of a hippie commune (come to think of it that also describes my mother).
At first I didn't get the hype. I'm going to be honest it did not agree with my skin at first, it sort of dissipated into nothing after about twenty minutes and I never got that beautiful woody bloom that everyone goes bananas over. It felt like a case of olfactory blue balls.
But, because I wanted it to work, I kept wearing it, tried applying it to different bits of my anatomy, using different methods of application... and then one day it worked.
Reader when I tell you I had a come to Jesus moment, I mean the angels started singing.
When it first goes on it smells like a shoe store. There's a very profound and nearly offputting leatheriness to it that mellows out into a subtle spice before blooming into this pure sandalwood wonderland. The cardamom is definitely present on me which offsets some of the more jarring acidity I find in a lot of sandalwood scents. The cedarwood tingles, right there, at the base of the whole thing, a steady base holding everything up and grounding it at the same time. It goes out as a sigh that smells of my grandmother's linen cupboard and the cedar shavings she'd store them with to keep the moths away.
The silage is enormous, and the staying power endless. Some other reviews I read said that it's now so ubiquitous it's almost the smell of the air in certain parts of NYC and London and I can see how. After wearing it for a few days off and on it's still everywhere. Even after laundry the cuffs of my shirt still smell of it, my watch band, the makeup bag I carry to work with me, my hair, my pillowcase. Working as I was each time with a tiny dab from a 1ml sample vial, if sprayed I can only imagine it would be strong enough to block out the sun and incite a bacchic frenzy in anyone within a 13-mile radius.
It's truly gender-neutral. It's sweet but not cloying, woody but rounded, warm rather than sharp. I wouldn't go so far as to call it creamy but there is a softness to it, a well-loved sweater kind of softness that is tempered by the edginess of a truly gender-bending profile (none of that gourmand skew that a lot of sandalwood scents "pour femme" seem to like and nor any of that awful put-upon musk that seems to be the only thing anyone can come up with to make a scent "pour homme"). There's honestly nothing complex about it. It's a minimalist dream, it is exactly what it says on the tin and is all the more luxurious for its simplicity.
The hype is absolutely real.
Rating:
*dives into a pool of this scent. Never to return*
9/10 -1 point for its ubiquity.
Everyone loves this scent, everyone wears this scent. I need to be original or I will perish and in the circles I run in? this is as trite as a June wedding or calling your art "poststructuralist" because it doesn't actually mean anything and you know it.
The beaten dead horse of the fragrance scene. But it was, once, the world's most beautiful horse. May it rest in peace.

Roman-era silver 'toilet spoon' discovered in Wales
Tumblr media
A Roman-era silver "toilet spoon" discovered by a metal detectorist in the U.K. has been declared a "treasure" by experts.
Valentinas Avdejevas made the peculiar finding in 2020 while exploring Vale of Glamorgan, a county in Wales. He surrendered the metal artifact to the Portable Antiquities Scheme for Wales, a local authority that works directly with metal detectorists who have unearthed artifacts. The utensil is currently in the possession of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, according to a statement.
The narrow silver spoon (also known as a Roman ligula) contains a shallow, circular bowl attached to a thin, bent handle and would have been used to scoop out cosmetics and perfume from long-necked bottles. Read more.
